I didn't know what had come over me when I saw the life leave my supposed Mates eyes. He momentarily looked shocked as he breathed his last breath. I glanced at at his heart in my hand in disbelief he had one after everything he had done to me. His blood was still dripping as it coated my forearms. I realized suddenly what I had done and then the wave hit me I had killed my mate I would never again feel the mate bonds warmth. I sobbed aloud not for Sebastian but for myself that as the Rebal Kings daughter I hadn't been seen fit to experience the true mate bond with someone who really loved me not just someone who saw me as a rung on his social climb to power. After a few moments I felt a gentle hand on my shoulder and looked into the eyes of Queen Poppy.

"come on my darling." she said using her Queenly command gently as u stood numbly. Once on my feet and having stepped away from Sebastian's fallen body I felt Lucinda as she embraced me in a reassuring hug.
