“Buongiorno (good morning), Giovanni.” Giovanni looked up at his dad as he walked into the kitchen. His dad perched against the island, a cup of coffee in one hand and the morning newspaper in the other.
“Buongiorno, papà (morning, dad).” Vinny eyed the man again as he made his way to the coffee pot. It wasn’t odd to see his dad awake, and hell if wasn’t odd for Vinny to be awake either. But it was odd to see his dad still in the kitchen and not in the family dining area, which told Vinny that his dad remained just so he could run into Vinny.
“You and Val make a striking couple,” Donatello said, tossing the newspaper on the counter between them. “The media are calling you two the power couple.” Vinny finish
It was simple and sweet and it sure as hell caused her heart to start doing double time, which was something she didn’t like and refused to examine why. But the sounds of cat calls and whistles soon broke them apart and as they did, she stared into his eyes. And she blinked as a flash captured her attention and she turned, seeing a cameraman there. “Thanks for that shot, Vinny; the readers are going to love it.” Val quickly took a step back, her teeth grinding against each other. She should have known better! In fact, she would do well to remember that all of this is for show that Vinny would never care for her like she would want. “Glad you got it, Nico.” Nico smiled at Val but she couldn’t return it. ‘This is just a job, grin and bear it’, she k
Salvatore looked between the couple and saw the hard glint in Vinny’s eyes. Yes, Valentina maybe shouldn’t have been so forceful and left marks on Celeste, but Celeste shouldn’t have disrespected her either; and everyone, including Celeste, knew that. Val did what any princess would have done, stood up for herself. And he had to make Vinny see that; after all, he was the only one who knew the terms of this agreement. So, he grabbed Carlos and told him to take Val down to the dance floor while he took Vinny to the office. Once Carlos took her, much to Vinny’s annoyance, Salvatore grabbed his arm, “let’s go.” “Where to?” “The office, we need to talk.” Vinny sighed, but followed him.
“Are you allowed to go?” Val rolled her eyes at her friend. “I’m his fiancée Claire, not a lap dog or anything.” “So, you’re free to go after class?” “Yes.” Valentina looked up at her friend and classmate. Claire was one of those people who didn’t know about her world, and that’s how Val wanted to keep it. She didn’t hang out much with her outside of class, so when she asked, she was quick to say yes to get away from that mafia world. And all they knew was that she was engaged, and to whom, but all they knew about Giovanni was that he was some type of business man.
Valentina swallowed hard and looked up at her father before looking back at Vinny, who stood at the doorway, with his arms crossed over his chest and a murderous glint in his eyes. His eyes took notice of the cut on her lip and on her arm, but also of the hands prints. But before she could say anything, the doctor came in and checked out her wound, shooing everyone but Rafael and Vinny out. “De Luca, can you excuse us please?” Vinny asked as the doctor finished bandaging the arm. Rafael glanced at her and slowly he shook his head. “I’m very disappointed, Val.” And in all her years she had never felt so small. And it wasn’t like she made a habit of it. In fact, she was the one attacked! Vinny hunched down and she stared at his jean clad legs, not w
He pulled into the four car garage and quickly cut the engine after he parked. She looked through the window at the other three cars and lifted a brow as he helped her out. “Where would mine go?” He grinned at her question and tossed her a wink. “I have a warehouse at the back of my property that has another five cars. These are merely the ones I drive more often. When you move in, I’ll simply put one of these back there.” She blinked, she knew that it would happen, her moving in and living with him, but to hear it, it felt more real. “Right,” she muttered, which caused him to chuckle. It was as surreal for him and it was her. &nb

The following day, Val still couldn’t shake the kiss out of her mind. Nor could she deny how much she liked it and wanted to do it again. He had let her stay in a guest room and the next morning she had gone home to change and grab her school stuff. And now, she was on her way, in a vehicle her to-be-in-laws had sent to pick her up so she could have lunch with them and discuss wedding stuff all with that kiss plaguing her mind. Yeah, she had no clue had to do that. And normally she was the calm and collected type. But, like everything else that came along with Giovanni, he got under the skin, just in a different way than in their past. Or, at least for the most part; there were still times he irked her and pissed her off the wrong way. “Here we are, ma’am.” Val lifted her head and stared at the restaurant that she came to quite often enough with her mother. “Thank you.” The guy nodded as he held the door open for her and helped
Val watched as Celeste left in a huff and she let out her own groan. She had guessed, without a doubt, that Celeste would be a problem for her, but she wasn’t aware how bad of one. And she had no idea what to do. She could handle it, or maybe she could talk to Vinny? He could suggest something, as this was his family. Hell, for all she knew, maybe Celeste did something for the family, besides being a bitch. She shook her head, composed her nerves, and walked back in. Not that she had any real burning desire to want to deal with this now, sadly. Celeste had left a bad taste in her mouth, and she just wanted to get away. But she wasn’t raised to be rude and wouldn’t dare do that to her mom or her future in-laws. “Where is Celeste?” Valentina glanced over at Sofia, her brown eyes watching Val closely. “She sends her apologies but realized she had somewhere else she needed to be.” Val sat down and reached for her water; her eyes s
“I need to check out her car Valentina.” Val lifted her head and looked at him, the fire flashing in her eyes and he had to smile, for no matter what, she really wanted nothing to do with Celeste. “Do I need to go with you?” “No, we can drop you off and you can invite Luciana over if you like.” Vinny brushed her hair away and she nodded. “Good, maybe you girls can go for a dip, and spend the day as you wanted.” “You don’t mind?” “Well, you know I don’t have many women around, but I’ll let it slide this once.” She gave him a smile and for that beauty, he would give her anything she wanted. After the day she had, she deserved to have something good today. Frankie closed the door on them and then walked around, climbed into the driver’s seat, and took off. Vinny kept his arms around Val the whole time, who kept her head buried in his chest. He wanted answers and badly, and though he was going to go talk to Celeste, h
Vinny blinked a couple of times as he stared at Valentina, his anger deflating like a balloon, all the air gone, at least towards her. Why would her dad call them to come home when he knew his daughter was out? And he knew he couldn’t be mad at her enforcers; when the Boss calls, you answer, and you don’t ask why. Vinny let out a breath and walked over to Val to hold her, but she pushed him away, her eyes glaring at him. “Leave me alone Giovanni,” she whispered, stepping away from him. His brow wrinkled as he watched her walk over to Joey who wrapped his arms around her. “Do you know why her dad would call them?” Vinny asked him and Joey shook his head. “No, this is news to me. I knew he was upset last time so I can’t see why he would do this.” Vinny watched Val, his gut twisting at the sight. Family or not, it should be him holding her and comforting her, not Joey. “Val, have you ever had anything like this happen
“You don’t think Val would have done something, right?” Vinny looked over at Frankie. “Like spy and then ratted us out? No, not at all.” “Your dad thinks that.” Vinny took a sip of his whiskey and shrugged. His dad could go on thinking whatever he wanted, so long as he didn’t say anything. However, if he did, then Vinny would have a problem. “What would Val have gained? It’s not as if she has a lot of offers for marriage or a lot of time for anything anyway. And if not that, then what, freedom from me? It wasn’t as if I was there. And she’s smart enough to know that if this was her, this would only start back up a war we are trying to stop.” Frankie laughed and Vinny just stared at him. “What is so God damn funny?” “Never thought I would see the day that Giovanni Constantini would claim that Valentina De Luca was smart; usually you were pretty good at putting her down.” Vinny would actually agree with that. Not that
“Are you okay?” Val looked up from her menu at one of her long-standing friends, a daughter of another family that worked under her dad. “Yes…no…I don’t know Luciana.” “Is it the prick again?” Val looked at her friend and shook her head. Throughout all the history with her fiancé here, Luciana knew it all. And the night that Val got the news; she had to call her best friend. To say that Luciana was livid was understating it. Every mafia child knew their place in the world; very few got to marry for love. Your one hope was that the man was kind enough to you. And well, they had both never thought that Val would be married off to her enemy. And here came the fun part, trying to change her friend’s mind. Some were way more open but some, like Luciana, believed Vinny to be the devil and as such could never be good to Val. Of course, some of their moments were still tense, but overall, they had seemed to be working on it.
Vinny ended the call and tried to control his anger once again. How the fuck did this go wrong? That was the biggest question. But he didn’t have time to dwell on that right now. He needed to call his dad and their doctor to have them both come here as Salvatore couldn’t go to the hospital. “It’s going to be okay,” Vinny said, reaching out his hand to a trembling Val. He wrapped his arms around her once she stood up, her hands clutching tightly to his suit jacket. “They will bring him here, so I need to call my dad and our surgeon. Will you want to go to bed?” “No, I….want to stay, make sure he’s okay. My dad has had problems in the past and I would stay to make sure everything was okay.” Vinny nodded, reaching for the phone to call his dad, praying that he wouldn’t get the yelling then.----- “Che cazzo è successo (what the fuck happened)?” Donatello asked as he burst through Giovanni’s front door. Valentina glanced up at him
Vinny walked into the house, almost tripping over the shoes that were left by the door. He glanced down at the problem, his teeth clenching. God, what a spoiled ass if she thought she could leave her shit lying around and he wouldn’t be upset. He bent down and moved the shoes and walked further in, finding a jacket on the floor. His eyes finally glanced up and he saw the trail of clothing leading down the hallway. He quickly picked everything up and tossed it in her room but frowned when he didn’t see her. “Val?” He waited for a response but heard none and headed back down the hallway and to the library, seeing her in a pair of shorts and a tank top, sitting on the couch, a tumbler of amber liquid in her hand. She kept her gaze outside the window that overlooked the backyard. “Val,” he repeated. He knew she had heard him, knew that she knew he was there, yet she did nothing but lift the glass to her lips and took a small sip. “Yes, Giovanni?”
Val gave her mom a look as she ran through the house and to her father’s meeting room. It really wasn’t her fault that she was 20 minutes behind, she had done her best to be here, but she knew that wouldn’t fly with him. So, as she walked in, she was ready for the rather nasty look he tossed her way. “Mi dispiace papà (sorry dad),” she told him as she took the seat next to him. “Sorry gentlemen,” she told the other four men who were sitting around the table. Joey offered her a smile and she felt better, but it was short-lived as her dad grabbed her arm. “You think it’s okay to be late and that a fake sorry and some pretty smile will make it okay?” “No, of course not father, I am sorry, but things happened at school…” “I don’t want excuses, figlia (daughter),” her dad growled out, effectively cutting her off and making her wince. “Naturalmente (of course),” she said, rather meekly, her head down, w
They both heard the door open but couldn’t pull back far enough before Salvatore started talking and then stopped, looking between the two. “I’m sorry, please don’t let me stop you two.” “Please Salvatore, it’s okay, what’s going on?” Vinny took another step away but made no move to let Val go. And though it wasn’t common for women to be privy to the workings of the business, he had every intention of Val looking over some of this stuff. “I just got a call about the deal.” “Okay, and?” Vinny urged his man. Salvatore shot a look at Val, but Vinny wasn’t releasing his hold. “According to my sources, we are all set.” “And you are sure I don’t have to be there?” Vinny confirmed. “No boss, I got it all under control. The shipment will be in at 11:30 and the men will be ready to roll.” Val looked between the two men and crossed her arms. “May I ask what
“Is everything ready for tomorrow night and the gun drop?” Vinny asked as he glanced over at Salvatore. “My dad is leaving me in charge of this run, and I want to make sure it’s good.” “As far as I know, everything is on course. The truck should be in at 11:30, we have a crew of six unloading and dispersing.” Salvatore stopped talking as Sofia’s name popped up on the caller ID in the car, which Vinny quickly declined. He was in the car, driving home and talking business, the last thing he wanted was to talk to his mom right now. “Good, and you will be overseeing everything?” “Like I always do, boss.” Vinny shot a look at Salvatore, and he laughed. “Everything is set up and ready to go as planned.” “And we have eyes on Dante?” “You trust him so….” Before Salvatore could finish the question, there was another incoming call from Sofia and once again, Vinny declined it. “I don’t trust hi
