Victoria's hand shook violently. The gun had fallen to the floor. In that gaze was the regret, anger and despair of a mother who had lost control. Johan had been shot by his mother.

"Ben, take Caroline away from this place." Johan's voice was low and disjointed, but Ben could still hear it.

Then, Ben and Andrew immediately saved Caroline. Ben lifted Caroline's body and immediately carried her outside. The car was ready to go to the hospital. Andrew would drive the car, while Ben was in the back seat along with Caroline.

"Andrew, hurry up." Ben panicked as he touched Caroline's cold body.

He didn't want Caroline to die this quickly. Moreover, he still can't give the best for the person he loves. Andrew quickly drove the car but was alert and focused.

"Caroline, don't leave me." Ben checked Caroline's pulse which was getting weaker.

'The surgery was successful. The bullet was removed and the bleeding was stopped. However, her condition is still weak. She needs time to recover.'Ben was still reeling from the doctor's words. However, he was very grateful to God that Caroline's life could still be saved. He breathed a sigh of relief, although there was still some lingering worry. He grasped Caroline's hand carefully and put on sterile clothes. The room was quiet, with only the sound of medical equipment working to stabilize Caroline's body."I know you'll be strong, sweetheart."Ben sat beside Caroline's bed. His eyes did not leave Caroline's pale face. The oxygen tube was still in place and the bedside machine continued to monitor her vital signs. However, what relieved Ben the most was the soft sound of the heart rate monitor still beeping regularly. "You've been through worse than this," Ben whispered as he gripped Caroline's hand tighter. "So I'm sure you can get through this too." The ICU door opened sligh

He is guarded by two armed men."Ben and Maxime met at the apartment close to the hospital to discuss Johan. That was enough to confirm that Johan was indeed there. However, the heavy guard made things more complicated. He needed a smarter strategy."Do you have a plan to get in there?" asked Max as he sipped his orange juice."I'll disguise myself as the doctor who treated Johan. I'm sure they'll trust me and not suspect me. But I have to do it carefully. I can't just rely on luck."Ben would ask Professor Reinhardt to give him one of the doctor's ID names. Max supported him."Good idea." Max also invited Ben to do cheers.***Ben stood in the hallway of the hospital. His eyes were fixed on the door labeled VIP Ward at the end of the corridor. "Who are you?" asked Victoria who had just arrived and wanted to enter Johan's room.Ben looked at Victoria with sharp eyes from behind the mask. He was feeling very angry, but he hid it."Are you the doctor who treated my son?" asked Victoria."Yes, Ma'am." Ben changed his tone of voice slightly and kept it steady."How is he?" asked a worried Victoria."The wound is quite deep, but so far there are no signs of infection or serious complications. However, he is still under observation due to heavy blood loss. We will keep an eye on his progress." Ben answered so calmly that it didn't raise Victoria's suspicions."That's good then. I'm glad to hear that." Victoria gave Ben a small smile. Before Victoria suspected him, Ben excused himself and quickly left Victoria's presence. He knew that Victoria was not a stupid woman, the slightest mistake could make her suspicious. When the meeting was about to end and the participants were beginning to disperse from the room, Ben sat quietly while he organized papers on his table. But someone could be heard walking quickly in the direction of the back."What a great presentation you made earlier." Johan quipped at Ben while clapping his hands.Ben turned his head. Johan stood beside him, a faint smile gracing his face. A smile that showed envy of Ben's achievement."Thank you," Ben replied briefly, staying calm so as not to be provoked."You're good with words. Everyone seems to forget that technology like that can be misused." Johan leaned slightly towards Ben.Ben stood up, but Johan's hand blocked his steps. Their eyes met each other. Ben stared intently at Johan."Get your hands out of my face." Ben sternly straightened his blazer as if he were telling Johan to stay away."What if I don't want to?" He observed every movement in the yard, hoping to catch a glimpse of Caroline.'Go out, just for a while. His mind was thinking about Caroline. His heart was torn between longing and ulterior motives. Johan leaned forward, making sure the shadow in the window was Caroline. He recognized her silhouette, the slow movement as she closed the curtains. Johan smiled slightly. His gaze did not flicker. He knew sooner or later, his chance would come."She lives comfortably with that man. But not forever."His hand picked up an old photo from the dashboard drawer. A photo of Caroline smiling with him in the past. That smile was now just a memory. Yet, in his mind, it had to come true again. And if it couldn't be obtained with love, then he would seize it by other means. He put the photo back."We're not done yet, Caroline ...."Johan's car drove slowly down the street. He knew the house was heavily guarded. Hidden camer

"Are you having problems with your daughter again?" asked Viktor as he looked at Alexander.Alexander didn't answer right away. "My daughter loves him very much.""Benjamin Charles?" Viktor squinted and his jaw hardened."What did he do to you in the past?" Alexander put down his wine glass, straightened up and felt intrigued by this discussion."Ben killed my brother. James!" Alexander held his breath. He had heard that name mentioned years ago in a case of violence against slaves. Sophia's cell phone rang on the living room table. Victoria's name was displayed on the screen. With a raised eyebrow, Sophia picked up the call."Hello, Aunt Victoria?" greeted Sophia on the phone."Sophia, I just wanted to let you know that Caroline finally divorced Johan."Sophia was silent for a moment. Her eyes widened and her body tensed. If Caroline and Johan were divorced, it meant that Caroline could belong to Ben completely."They're officially separated. Johan lost her."Sophia got up from the sofa. Then walked quickly towards the window while gripping the cell phone tighter. She couldn't let Ben go, the feelings were still there."Why are you saying it like that? This is not good news for me!" Sophia's voice rose."Why not?""If Caroline is free, Ben will get closer to her! You know, he'll always choose her over me!" Sophia patted her forehead and sighed softly."Sophia, your feelings for Ben are none of my business. Arriving at Ben's house, Caroline got out of the car with slow steps. Andrew said nothing, just bowed and let her enter alone. Caroline opened the door. The warm air from inside the house immediately greeted her. Ben stood in the middle of the living room, still wearing a white shirt with the top open and the sleeves rolled up to the elbows. His face turned instantly at the sound of the door. Their eyes met. "Caroline ...." Ben's voice sounded soft and went straight to Caroline.Caroline did not answer. She just walked slowly towards Ben, without saying anything and hugged him tightly. Her hands grasped the back of Ben's shirt as if she was trying to reconcile herself.Ben hugged her tighter. He didn't ask any questions. He knew Caroline needed space, but also needed that hug to lean on."I gave him the divorce papers," Caroline said."You're amazing. Arriving at the hidden lake, Andrew parked the car under a large tree. The sound of gurgling water was serene. There was no one around. Just nature and peace."I'll stand guard nearby. Take as much time as you need, Miss." Andrew opened the door for Caroline and let her down.Caroline nodded and walked slowly towards the lake. She sat on a wooden bench overlooking the water. The breeze brushed her face, bringing the calm she needed right now.The fear had not completely gone. Johan's figure was still alive in her mind, like a shadow that refused to go away. Johan's words earlier said that she was unhappy with Ben. However, the situation was just the opposite.'Am I as unhappy as Johan said?' The thought came to Caroline.'Ben loves me. I know that. He gives me space and gives me security. But why does the shadow of the past still entangle me like an invisible chain? Do I still have feelings for Johan deep down?'Tears began to roll down her cheeks. She hated herself for still feeling

Caroline wanted to go out for a while and get some fresh air outside. However, she couldn't go alone because Ben had assigned Andrew to always stand guard beside Caroline."Mr. Charles has given me the job of looking after you, taking you wherever you need to go. Just mention it, Miss." Caroline smiled slightly, although in her heart there was a slight sense of uneasiness at being watched. But she knew this was not about mistrust. It was about protection. And Ben, as always, knew how important safety was to her."I'd like to go to the park near the square," Caroline said softly."Yes, Miss. I'll take you two blocks, then we'll walk from there so as not to be too conspicuous. The car is ready."Caroline just nodded slowly, then went back inside for a moment. After a long night with Ben, Caroline is still in his arms. She had given him everything, not just her body, but also her heart and her trust. Ben whispered in Caroline's ear."No." Caroline shook her head softly."Then I'll make sure you never regret choosing me." Ben kissed her forehead warmly.Caroline smiled, her eyes still closed as she buried her face into Ben's warm chest. Her fingers traced Ben's skin as if memorizing every inch of the man's body that was now a place to lean on. Ben caressed Caroline's bare back with a gentle touch. They were silent for a moment, letting each other's heartbeats do the talking.
