"Kalyani!" Sarita chided, looking horrified as well.
"His ego is bigger than the earth itself, so someone's gotta put him in his place." Kaly huffed looking nonchalant.
"I don't understand you sometimes, Kaly. Just a while ago, you were drooling all over his expensive shoes and now this?" Sarita looked confused.
"We're just like that." Kaly shrugged carelessly. "Now wait for it." She moved close to Sarita as Vikrant stalked towards them.
All Sarita could see was a drop dead gorgeous boy with blue eyes sauntering towards them. His hair was as black as night and reached his shirt collar which meant that it was long enough and needed to be cut, but Sarita thought that it made him look like an ancient warrior coming back from war... victorious.
Although, the look in his eyes right now bordered on irritation and mild amusement.
"I'm going to spank your ass one of these days, Yaya." His low voice watched over Sarita like rain after a long time of drought. "You're becoming very naughty."
Kalyani laughed and shot Sarita a 'didn't I tell you so' look then faced Vikrant.
"Haven't I warned you to stop calling me Yaya? My name is Kalyani." She reminded him. "Or maybe your brain cells are so fried from all the sex you've been having to remember that my name ends with NI and not YA. KALYANI."
"Cry me a river sweetheart." He rolled his eyes. "I won't stop calling you that." He walked away, whistling under his breath.
Kaly stomped her feet in frustration. He was so very annoying. Only if his father didn't love him so much, she'd have done everyone a favor by getting rid of him.
"Was he supposed to say that seeing as... you're his cousin?" Sarita winced.
Kalyani Singh and Vikrant Suryavanshi were related. He was her cousin and though they were of the same age but Kaly was three months older than he was which she never failed to remind him of. Vikrant's father had married Kalyani's fifth aunt Santhiya from her mother's side of the family, but the woman had died after giving birth to Vikrant due to complications during pregnancy.
"That's how we roll." Kaly quipped. "I insult him and he says something mean to annoy me then I report him to Michael."
"And... What does Michael do?"
"Nothing." Kaly replied. "He pretends to warn Vik and Vik pretends to be remorseful for a day but the next day, we're back at it again."
"I bet you enjoy pressing his buttons." Sarita said.
"I do." Kaly grinned.
"Even though he always has the last word?"
"Not every time." Kaly shook her head.
"If you say so." Sarita said.
"Hey babe." Kalyani's boyfriend, Michael Tanner pecked her from behind making her laugh.
"Boo boo, I missed you." Kaly cooed and rubbed her nose against his.
"You saw me yesterday." He chuckled.
"It feels like years." Kaly pouted.
"Hey Sarita." Michael greeted her.
"Hi." Sarita greeted back shyly. "Kaly, I'll see you later, yeah?"
"Okay." Kaly nodded.
"Bye Michael." Sarita waved and quickly walked away from the two before they'd start making out, making her uncomfortable.
GGH was an Indian-Cardenian school so it was no surprise that half of the students were Indians and the other half from Cardenia. Like Michael, whose father was the governor of the state.
Michael had been a playboy, just like Vikrant was, but after he met Kalyani at one of Vikrant's parties, he changed. Kalyani didn't give him the time of day but that didn't stop him from pursuing her until she finally gave in and now they were the kind of couple other students in a relationship wanted to be like.
Sarita wanted to be in a relationship like Kalyani's where she didn't have to second guess every action of her boyfriend or his words but all she could do right now and every other day was to wish.
*******
Sarita sat up in bed abruptly, confused as to why she'd had that weird dream. She hardly ever dreamed about boys fighting over her - that was all Kalyani - but surprisingly, she'd dreamt that Raj and Vikrant were fighting over her and all she could do was watch them.
She'd probably have enjoyed it more if they'd not been trying to pull her arms out of their sockets until it became unbearable and then she screamed and woke up.
"Oh goddess, it was just a dream." She tucked her hair behind her ear. "A very weird one but one I wouldn't mind being a reality."
She picked up her phone from her bedside table, powered it on and immediately it finished booting, she got multiple messages from Kalyani which surprised her. It was 3am but she called Kaly anyway. Kalyani answered on the third ring.
"Oh,it's good you called! I had a very interesting/disturbing dream about you, Rita." Kaly didn't beat around the bush.
"Really?" Sarita sat up straight. "What was it about?"
"We were in school, in the cafeteria eating and talking to Mike... Well I was talking to Mike and you were just... Anyway, Vikrant and Raj walked in, yelling at each other and then they came over to ask you who you liked the most."
Sarita's dream had not started that way but it didn't matter. Kalyani had the same dream that she did… which meant that it was likely to come true.
"My dream didn't start that way." Sarita told her. "But... they started pulling my arms, right?"
"Yes, and from the look on your face, it seemed as if they were going to pull them out of their sockets." Kaly answered. "They were so aggressive and then you screamed and I woke up."
"I'm confused, Kaly." Sarita said. "Vikrant Suryavanshi will like me?"
"Obvi." Kaly said.
"I don't want him to." Sarita huffed.
"Because you only like Raj?" Kaly asked. "Come off it and be honest with yourself, Rita. You know very well Raj has loved Divya for as long as you've had a crush on him. He's blinded to her faults and doesn't see anyone else."
Sarita knew that but her heart didn't want to hear another boy's name except Raj - if it were possible for hearts to have ears - but hers did and it only wanted Raj.
"I know that Kaly, but..." She sighed in defeat.
"The heart wants what it wants." Kaly completed her unsaid statement.
"I'm afraid so."
"If my memory serves me right, your dreams come true, Rita." Kaly reminded her. "Remember the time you told me that Sam was going to hurt herself with those deadly heels of hers that she wore last year and it happened?"
"Yes, but this one won't." She said, deadpan. "It's absurd. We're talking about Vikrant Suryavanshi here, Kaly, not just any boy."
Kaly sighed. "He's still a boy either way, Rita. Flesh and blood with a beating heart. His heart is not made of stone as everyone thinks." Kaly assured her. "He's stupid every time, obnoxious and has the dirtiest mind ever known to man but underneath all that, he's a softie."
"You'll say that because you're his cousin." Sarita griped.
"Maybe, but it's the truth."
"It won't happen, Kaly." Sarita reiterated.
She found it rather ridiculous and a little funny that she'd not been able to capture the attention of Rajveer Chaturvedi for three years and in one night, dreamt of a fight between two friends because of her.
Vikrant Suryavanshi was going to like her. It wasn't only ridiculous but completely insane!
"Wanna bet?" Kaly teased.
"No." She mumbled. "You always win."
Kalyani laughed. "Very true." She agreed. "Don't think too much about it, okay?"
"Sure." Sarita said. She won't even give it a second thought.
"Laters baby."
Sarita chuckled. "Laters boo." She hung up, sighed and set her phone down on her bedside table. She made herself comfortable again then forced herself to close her eyes and not think of anything but as she began to drift off, a gorgeous face with blue eyes flashed through her mind which made her sigh and then she knew no more.
Samishka Singh stood in front of the buffet table wondering what to eat. There were different assorted dishes and desserts laid out for the guests to choose from but she was finding it hard to pick a specific dish. It was her youngest cousin Vikrant Suryavanshi's wedding and anyone who was somebody in Cardenia was in attendance. She snorted as she vaguely remembered that two years ago, Vikrant Suryavanshi would never have expected to find himself a married man before he turned twenty or worse be a father to two adorable gorgeous boys. But here he was, two years later, happily married to her little sister Kalyani's best friend Sarita Madhav. Now known as Sarita Suryavanshi. "Love... Look what you made him do." She muttered. They'd had an Indian wedding and this one was a church wedding. "Are you going to stare at the canapés all day or take a bite from them?" An amused male voice questioned beside her. Sam turned to face the newcomer and her breath hitched in her throat when she saw
They were married. She was his wife but Vikrant still felt very nervous as he stood at the altar waiting for Sarita to walk in. Her father had not been very happy after they told him that they intended to wed in the church after their traditional wedding but he'd given his consent, agreeing to walk her down the aisle. He straightened his jacket, checked his cuffs as the pianist began to play the wedding march song and almost wiped the sweat off his brows but he caught himself and silently cleared his throat. His breath hitched in his throat as the doors opened and Kaly walked in holding a small bouquet of peonies, followed by the ring bearer; Michael's cousin Sean and the flower girl and finally his bride appeared with her father. The walk to the altar took forever but he didn't mind as all he thought of was how gorgeous she was in the embroidered tulle wedding dress with a sweetheart neckline that she was wearing. He thought that he was a very lucky bastard because she was his to h
Vikrant stared at his ex-best friend's face in shock. He couldn't have heard him correctly, right? "Unfortunately, Divya beat you to it." Vikrant said. "Why are you telling me this?" "I can't... I can't do this anymore. I've not been able to sleep or study. I want things to go back to the way they were." Raj replied. "I came here to ask for your forgiveness, Vikrant." He dropped to his knees. "Please forgive me." Tears sprang to Vikrant's eyes as he stared at his former best friend on his knees. He'd cherished his friendship with Raj and he'd even thought of him as his brother from another mother, but he'd been the only one with the clear conscience in that relationship. He was eternally grateful to Kaly for exposing Divya and whose betrayal made him see Raj for who he really was. He was starting a new chapter in his life. He was a father and soon to be husband to the most wonderful girl in the world. He didn't want to bring his past into his future so he had to sever all ties w
Three weeks later Tears streamed down Sarita's cheeks when she walked into Vikrant's hospital room and saw him awake. The first week had been a rollercoaster ride for her as his blood pressure had dropped all of a sudden and the doctors had fought really hard to bring it back up. She'd been in school when she got a call from his father that he'd woken up and was asking to see her, so she'd gotten a leave from school and came straight to the hospital in the car his father had sent for her. She settled down on the chair his father had been sitting on and moved it closer to the bed, clasped his hand in hers and raised it to her lips. "You scared me to death, Mayank." She accused amidst tears. "I thought I'd never see you again." "I'm sorry." His smile was faint and his voice hoarse. His face was regaining its pallor but he still looked pale. "Don't ever try that again. Do you understand?" She hit him gently. "I forbid you." "Are you hitting a patient, Anushka? A very sick one at
Raj stopped in his tracks when he saw the crowd gathered in front of the music room and his brows furrowed. He moved closer, wondering what was happening but couldn't see anything until he heard Divya's voice calling out Vikrant's name. He fought his way to the front and froze when he saw the scene; Sarita sitting on the ground in a daze while Divya cradled a bloody Vikrant in her arms. His eyes traveled to the gun on the floor and his heart skipped a beat."Oh, God." He muttered. He was shoved aside as someone rushed into the room and he watched as Kaly rushed over to where the two girls were and knelt down beside Sarita."What's going on here?" The crowd parted for Principal Marek to walk in and he also went still upon seeing the scene. "Call for an ambulance!" He ordered. "Please tell me an ambulance is on the way.""I already did that sir." Michael spoke up."You killed him." Sarita's detached voice made everyone turn to look at her. They knew she was squeamish around blood but s
Two days later "I did tell you that he'd come around, didn't I?" Kaly reminded Sarita as they stopped by her locker during the second period. Kaly's definition of Vikrant 'coming around' was a hello from him and a concerned look. She figured that it was better than behaving like strangers but in Sarita's books, that was nothing. If anything, it made her both anxious and angry wondering when they'd make up. She wasn't scared to admit that she'd missed him like crazy and hoped she wasn't the only one feeling miserable. She inputted the combination for her locker, opened the door and gasped when she saw the flowers and hearts littering her locker. There was a bouquet of red roses, a chocolate box wrapped in red ribbon, a handmade heart-shaped card and a heart-shaped globe that had tiny red hearts floating inside of it and a photo of the two of them smiling at each other. "Oh. My. God." Kaly's jaw dropped open. She grabbed the card, opened it to peruse what was written inside and
