What happened at Marlon's house had somehow drawn them closer. Though they never talked about the incident to anyone or with each other, there was something intimate about sharing the experience and keeping it a secret.

They continued their study at 13th West Lexington Hills, but they took the back door ever since that initial encounter with Marlon's mom. She was always home, always drunk, and sometimes she can be seen wandering around the house, but she usually stayed in her room for a long period of time.

Hazel caught someone coming out of Marlon's mom's bedroom when she came out to use the bathroom. A young man, he couldn't be older than 25 years old. She was shocked, to say the least, because the guy was zipping up his fly and Belinda can be seen half naked on the bed when the door slowly closed.

She didn't know what to do or what to think. She wondered if it was a regular thing around the house and if she had to say something to Marlon. But she chose not to. If there was anything

"Hey honey, how's your day?" Claire was curled up on the sofa with a book she'd been reading the last few days."Hi ... so ..." Hazel threw her backpack on the floor and jumped onto the sofa next to her mom, "Joshua Reynolds was at the school today."Her mom's jaw dropped, and her eyes bulged wide like they were about to pop out, she put down her book and squeezed her daughter's hand so hard it turned red. "Is he as gorgeous as I pictured him to be in my head?"Hazel thought for a moment, "I don't know how you pictured him in your head ... but for a man his age ... yeah, I think I can categorize him as gorgeous ... although that's a bit creepy 'cause he's Marlon's dad."Claire laughed and felt so giddy inside, she turned into her teenage self again at that moment. "Oh tell me about it ... how did you meet him? What was he wearing?"Hazel told every detail of her meeting with Josh and even told her that he said 'hi' and talked about a barbeque in the future. Claire was beyond ecstatic.

Lee looked tired that night as she watched him from the passenger seat. But more than that, he seemed distant. He was quiet apart from asking the usual stuff, his mind was somewhere else."Is everything okay?" she couldn't help asking."Hmm? Yeah ... why do you ask?" he kept his eyes on the road. She grabbed his hand because he hadn't held her at all that evening. "Nothing ... you looked like you have things on your mind."He smiled and kissed her hand, and then he put her hand back on her lap. "I was worried you were going to cancel on me tonight."She laughed lightly, "Why would I do that?""Oh ... you know, the party ... everyone's talking about it.""What party?"Lee glanced at her and realized from her expression that she didn't know what he was talking about. "The party at Marlon's ... you didn't know?"It was the first time she heard about it. She was stunned, speechless, surprised that Marlon never mentioned anything about having a party at his house. What do you mean 'uh oh'?" Eduard jogged to the front window and saw Lee's car slowly moving away from their house. "I can't see his face ... see this is why I told you she shouldn't date until she's 23."Claire peeked upstairs from the bottom of the stairs trying to listen if she could hear anything from Hazel's bedroom. She looked worried.Eduard rested his hands on his waist, "You're gonna have to find out what that was all about ... 'cause I ..." he raised his palms, "I have absolutely no idea how to handle a teenage girl ... never did."She made a face at him, her husband was a good dad but this was definitely out of his league. Showing up at school on Monday was hard. She didn't know how she would feel if she had to bump into Lee. Her eyes were still swollen from the crying that occurred every time she thought about the breakup. So she put on sunglasses to hide them. She kept her chin up, her back straight, and pretended like it was just another day at school. She dressed up more than usual because Jan advised her to look her best so that when Lee saw her, he would be reminded of what he was missing. Though she didn't feel as good as she looked, she wasn't even sure if she looked good at all because of how terrible she felt inside.Jan slapped her butt after they got to her locker, "You got this babe, he wanted you to move on ... maybe you should show him how fast you can do it." • Tee Shirt   Seventy-Three: A Conversation By The Beach

Hazel was learning something new about herself. She learned that when she's high, it's hard to focus on anything. She couldn't even follow what Marlon was saying to her if it was more than two sentences in a row. He had to repeat his words slowly and she would laugh because it sounded funnier than it actually is.She learned that it took a lot of effort to walk in a straight line and that she couldn't stop smiling. And they laughed at nothing and everything at the same time. They must've looked like two stoned teenagers being playful with each other by the empty beach, which is exactly what they were.Marlon spread the blanket on the sand for them to lie on. I've never had a friend like her before and ever since Eli ... she's the one thing that made my life seem livable again. We spent the rest of the summer in Goldstone with my dad's charity program. We worked with under privilege children in the nook and cranny of the city. We volunteered at the nursing home. Hazel loved that one because I had to perform every week for the elderlies, they loved my singing, apparently, they think I was adorable and reminded them of their grandsons. Made me feel less special knowing there are at least 7 kids that looked like me. The whole program went well. She got extra points for her portfolio. So did I. Though it didn't matter to me because I know I'm not going to Uni after this. I'm concentrating on my new channel which Hazel had agreed to help with. She loved that to

They finally stopped when Hazel's mom stepped out of the house. They hugged and her mom said something about not drinking, don't do anything illegal, and calling her once they get there. Things his parents never said to him. He dropped his cigarette on the ground and put it out with his Givenchy sneakers.
