Birthday Tears

Sunlight filtered through the big bay window in her small room. It was nice having her own space even if she could not have anything bigger than a twin bed in it. Her pale yellow walls and white trim were the themes for almost everything in the room. Alice loved those colors as they made her think of the sun. 

" Sweetheart, you up?" Her mom called out

" Getting up now mom" Was the sleepy response.

" Your birthday breakfast is ready for you." her mom added before heading back to the kitchen. 

Every birthday for Alice or her brother her mom would make them a small breakfast of a few of their favorite foods. Then that evening it was cake and a small dinner again with favorite foods of the birthday person. It was a family tradition. One that Alice knew she would carry on to her own family. Making her mate and their pups feel special on their day. 

Alice got up and proceeded to take a shower then got dressed. Wearing an anime shirt and skinny jeans. Instead of her combat boots, she slid on a pair of sneakers. Simple wear for the day cause tonight she was gonna shine. The party is hosted as always between the packs was taking place at the high school. Most that of it as a school dance but it was more of an excuse for those who just turned 18 to find their mate tonight under the full moon. 

Going downstairs she joined her family and enjoyed the start of her birthday. Her brother was younger by five years. Adam was such a prankster. Alice hoped he would grow out of it soon. Today's prank was taking the powder sugar out of the container they used to gently coat their food when they had french toast with regular sugar. Their dad was not too happy. 

Arriving at school after having such a good morning with her family she was looking forward to today. Marcia and Lewis were looking for her and handed her two small gift bags. One big enough for maybe one outfit. With time to spare she opened them and thanked her friends. Lewis had gotten her a choker necklace and Marcia had gotten her a new black dress that is gonna be perfect for the party tonight. 

" Let's just hope you find your mate!" Marcia exclaimed. 

A small smile shown on Alice's pink lips. 

Most of the day was just a normal day that was until  fifth period. As Alice went past one of the empty classrooms the door opened and Jared and some girl she did not know with sex hair went to come out. The room reeked of their activities. Alice growled low at Jared and moved to go around him. But he heard her growl and grabbed her arm and pushed her up against a few of the lockers. 

" What is your problem?" He growled out. "Jealous?"

" No, but you should have respect for your mate!" Alice told him angry but unsure why she was this hot. She wanted nothing more than to smack her Alpha. She felt he was disrespecting not only his mate but the Goddess herself for sleeping with so many She-wolves. 

" Well once I find her then I will worry about what she thinks." He smirked and let her go with a small shove. " Tonight maybe I will find her if not....." he then began to walk away. 

" I feel sorry for your mate." She said and meant it. 

" No, I feel bad for whoever is stuck with you. I am sure he will have to help support your family." Came to the remark from the still walking away Alpha. 

Tears burned in Alice's eyes and for once she skipped the rest of the school day. She knew that everyone in the pack knew she worked at the local store just to help with bills and being able to keep all their heads above water. It was not her parent's fault that they did not get paid enough. She was sure there were other families in similar positions. This is why her classmates made fun of her. 

She ran into the forest and cried for a few hours till it got to be six pm. She then went home and took a nice hot shower to get ready for the party. She was not really in the mood but after thinking about it all she was not gonna let Jared Mr. I sleep with every she-wolf Alpha to stop her from going by making her feel bad. No, she would find her mate and sho whim just how you are supposed to treat them. With luck, he will be in another pack. 

Once dressed in her black short gothic lace dress, with her black choker and her trusty pair of platform combat boots she was ready to go. She curled her hair and even put on light makeup. Just enough to accent her pretty features. 

Going downstairs her parents seen her and got up to hug her. 

" Have a good time honey." Her mom said. 

" Even if you find your mate I expect you to come home before you run off with him." Her dad joked. 

" Not gonna get rid of me that easy dad," Alice said lightly punching his right arm. 

She then gave them one more hug as they wished her luck. You are not allowed to reject your mate cause it's an honor to find them. Not only that but is the other half of your soul and the Moon Goddess gift. In all werewolf history, no one has ever broken the bond. It's punishable by death. Still, some pairings come together more easily than others. Alice just wanted to have the same type of love her parents had. 

As she entered the gym she was amazed by how nice it was. They had gone all out this month. Since it was September it was a fall or autumn theme. the lights were done in brown, orange, and yellow. There were also some white lights to help make sure that the humans who might be there could see.  The clock was now ten minutes to midnight. As she searched for her friends seeing how she was a bit late her eyes found Jared. He was dancing with Morgan to the song Beautiful mistake by Maroon 5.  That seemed like a perfect song for those two. In just a few minutes they would know if they were mates. Good luck to them. 

Alice saw her group of friends on the other side of the gym and made her way there. Ashe was waving his hand at her as his mate clung to his side. Brittany was all sunshine, perfect Luna. A wide smile formed on her lips as she greeted her friends. 

Then the stroke of midnight hit and it seemed like too many bodies stopped for a moment. Everyone still searching was excited that the magic should be working now. But as 100 bad days played on the speakers Alice took in a deep breath and was hit with the scent of rain and pine, with a hint of cinnamon. The smell was overwhelming. It only took her a few moments to figure out what it meant. 

" He is here.." A shocked whisper came over. 

She then moved away from her friends and looked for him as she followed his scent. Her heart was racing as she moved across the floor. Was he also looking for her? Did she know him? Nerves started to hit her as she searched. 

Then her eyes landed on a pair of eyes she knew. They belonged to her Alpha. No, it can't possibly be him..right? His eyes were wide as he moved closer to her. He reached his arms out and grabbed her. Once they touched they felt the tingles another sign that they were in fact mates. What was the Goddess thinking...
