They’d be little angels at daycare or school and then get home and act like something out of the Exorcist. They acted out with their moms because that’s where they felt safe. They knew their mothers would always love them. They trusted their mom to help them get through all their ugly emotions and feelings. In Olin’s case, he doesn’t have a mom. He has you. You are his safe space.”

He chuckled. “I feel like I’m his hell. Coming through the door and seeing me waiting for him is his own version of hell.”

“I don’t think so. I think he needs you more than he realizes. He’s lost and confused.”
