Alexander’s POV"Did you announce our arrival?" I linked Luke."I have," he replied. "The priestesses are excited about seeing you.""Good," I replied. "We are here.""You know what to do!" he said.I could almost feel Luke's excitement over the link; he had gone to warn the priestess of our arrival.I left Emily's side and stood aside, letting Ghost take over to do the shift.Ghost understood, and seconds later I was standing in my Lycan form, throwing my head back, and howling. The huge doors of the temple opened, and Luke made his way out, stopping a few feet from the exit."Luna," he said. "The only way you will be able to enter the temple is to shift into your Lycan beast."Emily's gaze moved to me."There isn't anyone close by," I said. "These woods are protected. So is the temple. Only pure blood can enter.""But why can't I enter in human form?" She asked. "I am full-blooded."Luke smiled, and his gaze met mine."Because the protection spell wouldn't let a human enter," he sai
Emily's POV"Race you to the top!" Luke yelled out, shifted into his brown and gray wolf, and started sprinting up the path we came from.We just exited the temple after spending most of the day there, yet outside, it didn't look a few minutes later than the time we entered the temple.Alex turned to face me, his eyes shifting between black and gray, and they were pleading. His wolf was on the surface; he couldn't resist such a challenge; he wanted to show off his strength and speed."Sure, go ahead," I said, chuckling. I couldn't help but find his puppy's eyes adorable. "I'll see you at the top!""Are you sure?" He asked, surprised."Yeah," I replied. "Go show Luke you are still the Alpha of this pack!""You are the best!" He said, kissing me on the forehead, then turned and shifted into a beautiful black wolf. The wolf turned his huge head toward me and quickly nodded—I caught a glimpse of his light blue, almost white, icy eyes—before he sprinted off."No wonder his name is Ghost,"
Alexander’s POV I nipped at Luke's tail as we ran up the steep trail. He made sure to concentrate so that Ghost couldn't catch him."Is the Alpha getting slower now that he has found his mate?" Luke taunted.Ghost huffed, increasing his speed. He was ready to bring Luke down and make him eat a mouth full of dust.I chuckled at Ghost's enthusiasm and sat back. He will make sure Luke learns his lesson. My mind slowly wandered off earlier today.I was interested in knowing what happened that kept Emily from returning to the temple, and even though I knew now, I couldn't help playing the conversation over and over in my mind."Come," Basilia said, gesturing to us to follow her. "We have a lot to discuss."I took Emily's hand in mine, took it to my lips, and kissed the top of her hand."Are you okay?" I asked, looking down at her in worry."I'm just a bit overwhelmed, that's all," she said. I could see something was bothering her."If this is too much," I said. "We can leave and come back
Emily's POV"Alex," I said with a sigh. "I do not have a title for my position in King Alpha Xavier's pack. I am just a warrior girl."Alex has been asking random questions about what I have been doing at White Moon Pack. I wasn't ready to tell him exactly what I do. There was still a lot at stake."A high-ranking one," Alex said."King Xavier trained me," I said, which was the truth. "Obviously, I would be skilled in combat."Alex rolled his eyes for the hundredth time. He didn't believe a word I said. How do I get him to believe me without giving too much away?"Sure," he said, pulling his lips in a thin line. Was he angry at me?Were we having our first fight?"Seems so," Willow chirped. "I find it quite exciting. Alex can't lose his temper and get furious at you. Which I find quite sexy!""Oh Goddess, girl!" I huffed, annoyed. "You find everything sexy about Alex.""He is our mate," she said proudly. "And the way he is acting all jealous now is making me hot and bothered. Can you
Alexander’s POV"Alpha?" Luke called, shaking my arm lightly."What?" I asked, looking up confusedly at Luke. "Sorry, what did you say?"Emily's frightened face was distracting me. I didn't mean to lose control and scare her; I was just so frustrated with everything that was going on."The council said they were ready," Luke said, a teasing smile playing on the corners of his lips. "They asked if the accused could be brought forward.""Oh," I said. "Yes, very well."Luke turned his head and gestured to the warriors to bring Michael forward.I sighed, feeling mentally and physically tired. "Maybe you should get a decent night's rest," Ghost said.He has been with me the whole day, silently observing."Do you think it would help?" I asked. "With everything that is happening, the chance that I would get some proper shut-eye would be scarce.""I know you are worried about Emily packing up and disappearing," Ghost said. "But we know her life is at White Moon Pack; finding her would now be
Emily's POV"Emily, is that you?" A familiar female's voice brought me to a standstill, and I hesitated to turn around.I wasn't in the mood for socializing—not after I had just witnessed a brutal execution. It all happened so fast. One second later, Alex was still processing what I was saying, and the next, he stood panting out of breath with Michael's throat in his claws.Choking sounds came from Michael, trying to breathe, but less than ten seconds later he collapsed against the pole.Alex threw the flesh he had in his claws at Michael in disgust and turned to address his pack.I could feel Alex expanding his ice-cold aura and traveling toward the pack members. One by one, the pack members dropped their heads, shivering and unable to look at him."Let this serve as a warning," he said, his gaze moving among his pack members. "I will not tolerate such behavior, am I clear?""Yes, Alpha." It came as one man from the pack, sending an unnerving shiver down my spine.Alex turned to face
Alexander’s POVI was shaking like a leaf with my phone in my hand, worried."Do it!" Ghost mused. "You have nothing to lose!""It's-""No, it is!" Ghost cut me off. "Just phone the girl!"My heart was racing a thousand miles per hour, making me sweat under my collar—this felt worse than asking Emily to dance!"Should I take charge?" Ghost suggested."N-no-no!" I muttered, trying to push my nerves aside.I took a long and deep breath, closing my eyes and forcing my racing heart to calm."Feeling better?" Ghost asked, concerned."Sure," I said, looking at the phone in my hand.I quickly dialed Mila's number, waiting for it to ring."Mila's phone," a husky voice answered after the second ring.I paused, startled, to hear him answering the phone. What do I do now?"What's Mila's name again?"It was on the tip of my tongue, but I just couldn't remember. I remember him coming from a neighborhood pack."James?" Ghost asked."No, it is not that!" I said."Jeremy? James? Max?" Ghost said."No
Emily's POVA surprised giggle escaped my lips when I entered my bedroom. A huge bouquet of roses stood lovely and proudly on my dresser. There were more or less fifty white roses, with a single red embedded in the center of the huge bouquet. They were absolutely stunning, and I could help but smile out of appreciation."Ah," Luke's voice came from behind me, startling me. I guess he must have heard me giggle and came to see what made me so happy and excited."I see you found your little surprise," he said lazily, lying against the door frame."You knew about this?" I asked, surprised.Luke nodded."How did Alex manage to get hold of so many?" I asked, lifting a small card from the flowers. "It is not rose season.""Alpha has his ways," Luke said, smiling.I turned the card around, reading the neat handwriting on the back."I'm sorry," the card read. "Will you forgive me?""What's this all about?" I asked, waving the card in the air.Luke sighed and shifted his weight to both his feet
