As the day began to draw to a close, the sun dipped behind the horizon, casting a warm, dusky glow over the landscape. Camden's curiosity sparked, and she turned to Clayton with anticipation in her eyes. "Hey, can I meet your wolf?" she asked, a playful smile gracing her lips. Clayton returned her smile, his eyes gleaming with excitement. "Sure," he replied, "I’d love to go for a run if you’re interested? You're good to shift now? The wolfsbane has worn off completely, right?" Camden nodded, her voice filled with certainty. "Yes, I feel good and I’d love to go for a run with you."
They headed outside, Camden taking in the view of the cabin in a different light now that she was aware that Clayton had made it himself. She headed to the side of the cabin, seeking privacy to strip off her clothes and shift. Clayton, seemingly less reserved, had no qualms about stripping down and shifting right in front of the cabin. Moments later, Camden emerged as a wolf, her sleek form standing tall and proud. Camden's wolf was larger than Clayton had anticipated. She was small and petite in her human form, but she was not so small nor so petite as a wolf. Perhaps it was due to her Alpha bloodlines, he thought to himself. Her sandy-coloured fur glistened in the twilight, accentuated by a white muzzle and three snow-white paws. Her piercing blue eyes shimmered with a mix of excitement and curiosity. Clayton's wolf met Camden's with a mixture of eagerness and caution. He, too, defied expectations, standing taller than any wolf Camden could recall from her own pack. His stature was impressive. His black and white markings painted an intricate pattern on his fur, with a white belly contrasting against the black fur running down his back. One of his ears bore a white tip, a unique characteristic that added to his charm. His green eyes, an unusual hue for a wolf, held a sense of mystery and depth.
With joyful energy, the two wolves bounded up and down, circling each other in a playful dance. Clayton's wolf led Camden's toward a nearby stream, their paws splashing in the cool water as they continued their exuberant play. Camden couldn't help but feel a surge of exhilaration as she kept pace with Clayton, revelling in the freedom of her wolf form.
The stream guided them toward a breathtaking waterfall, its cascading waters shimmering under the moonlight. Camden's wolf paused, taking in the beauty of the scene. She vowed to return here tomorrow, to swim and immerse herself in the tranquillity of the place. The moon and stars above illuminated the night sky, casting a magical ambiance over the landscape. Clayton's wolf nuzzled Camden's affectionately, then sat down next to her, resting his head on her front paws. She lowered herself to lie down and rest her head on his. They relaxed like this for a while, taking in the beauty of the waterfall and the rest of their surroundings.
A howl tore through the night sky, causing both wolves to stand up suddenly. Clayton let out a loud, torturous howl as Camden followed suit.
Reluctantly, the wolves turned back, their playful antics guiding them on their journey back to the cabin. Racing and bounding with unrestrained joy, they revelled in the shared connection they had discovered. The bond between them was undeniable.
Upon reaching the cabin, Camden retreated to the privacy of the side of the cabin to shift back into her human form. When she emerged, she had dressed in the comfortable grey sweatpants and white shirt Clayton had loaned her earlier. Her hair was dishevelled and windswept, but she looked radiant. Her skin glowed, her cheeks were rosy, and her eyes shone brightly. A broad smile adorned her face, revealing a dimple on her right cheek. Clayton had pulled his jeans back on by the time she emerged, but was now shirtless. Camden had to force herself to look away, feeling a blush rising in her cheeks. His chest was broad and muscular and his arms looked like they could pick up four of her with no trouble whatsoever.
"Well, that was invigorating if nothing else," she said a little breathlessly through her beaming smile. Clayton couldn't help but smile too. Her joy was infectious. "You enjoyed that?" he asked, a twinkle in his eyes. "Very much," Camden replied, unable to stop smiling. "Can we go back to the waterfall tomorrow? I want to see it in the daylight," she asked, her voice filled with excitement. "Sure thing," Clayton replied warmly.
Clayton took Camden's hand absentmindedly and led her back into the cabin. He started a fire in the fireplace again, its flickering flames casting a cozy glow in the room. Then, as she sat down at the table, he made the familiar offer, "Spaghetti-O's or baked beans for dinner?" Clayton asked, his playful tone laced with affection. Camden's stomach growled, reminding her of her hunger. They both laughed at the perfectly timed interruption. "Um, Spaghetti-O's again, please. They remind me of my childhood," Camden replied, her eyes sparkling with nostalgia.
Clayton opened two cans of Spaghetti-O's and handed her one with a fork. "Sorry the fare is meagre. I really need to restock. I haven't felt much like going into town lately," Clayton confessed, a hint of vulnerability in his voice. Camden looked at him curiously, concern etched on her face. "Why not?" she asked gently. "I don't know, I just haven't been in the mood to be around people," Clayton replied honestly. Sensing his discomfort, Camden offered her support. "We can go together if you like. Maybe some company to distract you from all the people will help?" she suggested, her voice filled with empathy. Clayton considered her offer. "Hmmm... Maybe," he said, contemplating the idea. "I definitely do need to restock. I haven't been to town in like three months." Camden was taken aback by the length of time. "Do you isolate like this a lot?" she asked, her concern evident. "Sometimes," Clayton answered, his voice tinged with introspection. "Sometimes I just don't want to be around anyone, so I'll just stay here until I can't anymore."
Camden looked down into her half-empty can and sighed, contemplating the complexities of Clayton's solitary nature. "Do you think you won't want to be around me? When you go through these, what would you call them? Phases?" she asked, her vulnerability matching his. "I understand if that's what you need - I don't want to smother you or get in the way of your lifestyle. I just... I don't know where I would go to give you the space you need," Camden admitted, her voice filled with uncertainty.
Clayton gazed at her, his touch gentle as he caressed her cheek, causing her to shift her gaze from her feet to meet his eyes. "I don't know, this is all new to me, so I don't want to make you promises I can't keep," he said sincerely. "But as of right now, I can't imagine spending a second away from you. I don't want us to be apart." His words filled Camden with a mixture of relief and warmth. She couldn't help but feel her heart swell with affection for him.
As the evening wore on, Camden yawned, her weariness finally catching up with her. Clayton noticed her tired expression and suggested they go to bed. Camden agreed, realizing that a good night's sleep would rejuvenate them both. Clayton grabbed a pillow from the bed and began rummaging through a chest, finally pulling out a blanket. He set them down in front of the fireplace and flopped himself down. “What are you doing?” Camden asked, confused. “I’m going to sleep here,” Clayton answered. Camden was taken aback by the thought. "You can't sleep on the floor!" she exclaimed. "Can you imagine how stiff you'll be in the morning? No, you can sleep in the bed. I want you close anyway," she said in a serious tone. “I thought we were taking things slow?” Clayton replied, his eyes narrowed as he considered her words. “Are you afraid I might take advantage of you?” Camden asked, an eyebrow raised and a smirk on her face. Clayton's eyes sparkled with amusement, and he couldn't help but oblige her request. "Well, if you insist," he replied, his voice filled with gentle affection. He removed his jeans, revealing a pair of black boxer briefs, and then climbed into the bed, slipping under the covers. Camden couldn't help but steal a glance, appreciating his physique, but quickly pulled her gaze away, feeling a blush creep onto her cheeks.
She pulled the sweatpants down preparing to climb into the bed, but then quickly pulled them back up, a deep blush spreading over her cheeks. "And now?" Clayton asked, looking at her in confusion. "I forgot, I'm not wearing anything under these," she replied, snapping the waistband against her hip. "Oh..." He said with a sly smile. "Don't get any ideas," she said with an eyebrow raised. She kept the sweatpants on and climbed into the bed next to him. "Don't worry, I'll behave," he assured her, his voice filled with a mix of humour and desire.
As they settled under the warm covers, Camden allowed herself to study Clayton's features, her eyes tracing the contours of his face. He was undeniably handsome, with his rugged beard and his long, dark hair pulled back into a bun. His eyes were a murky green shade, a unique colour she had never seen before. His lips were full and inviting and his arched eyebrows made him look perpetually serious. In fact, they made him look a little angry.
Unable to resist the magnetic pull between them any longer, Camden leaned forward, as if his lips had been calling to her. She closed her eyes and pressed her lips gently against his, savouring the soft and tender connection. At that moment, the world seemed to fade away, leaving only the warmth of their embrace. Clayton responded eagerly, his hand finding its way to the small of Camden's back, pulling her closer to him. The kiss deepened, their lips moving in sync. Clayton broke the kiss, “I knew you were going to try and take advantage of me.” He whispered with a mischievous smile. Camden covered her face in embarrassment. “I’m so sorry,” she said, a blush creeping up her cheeks once again. “I… I shouldn’t have done that,” she said seriously. “I’m glad you did,” Clayton replied, his voice husky with desire. He leaned forward to kiss her again, urgently and passionately this time, as he pulled her body closer and felt her fingers trailing down the contours of his chest. His hands traced the curves of her body searchingly as Camden wrapped her leg around him to pull him even closer. Clayton wrapped his enormous hand around her tiny waist, pulling the t-shirt up as he went. Camden wrapped her hand gently over his. “Wait,” she whispered, her voice breathy with desire. “We need to slow down,” she continued gasping for air. “Sorry,” Clayton replied sincerely. “I guess I got a bit carried away.” He admitted, a little embarrassed. “Don’t worry, me too.” Camden agreed, smiling at him. She let out a deep sigh and unwrapped her leg from his torso. “I’m sorry,” she said, feeling a pang of guilt for bringing the fun to an abrupt end. Clayton exhaled. “It’s okay. Good things come to those who wait. Isn’t that how the saying goes?” He smiled at her and kissed her forehead. “Try to get some sleep,” he said, holding her protectively.
Feeling safe and content, Camden drifted off to sleep in Clayton's arms. He held her gently, cherishing the weight of her body against his. A day ago, his life had been solitary and predictable, but now everything had changed. The presence of Camden, his mate, had breathed new life into his existence, making him feel complete. Now he couldn't imagine a future without her.
As morning approached, Clayton woke up first, carefully trying to extract his arm from under Camden without disturbing her. However, as soon as he moved, she instinctively grabbed his hand, her eyes still closed. "Don't go," she murmured, snuggling closer to his chest. He kissed the top of her head and held her tightly, a smile playing on his lips. It had been so long since he had felt this kind of warmth and connection. Perhaps he had never truly experienced it before.Camden breathed in the scent of Clayton, listening to the steady beat of his heart. She let out a contented sigh, her voice filled with happiness. "And that?" Clayton asked softly. "I'm just... happy," she replied, a smile warming the features of her face. They remained wrapped in each other's arms, savouring the intimacy a little while longer before Clayton finally sat up, pressing a tender kiss on Camden's forehead. "Okay, supplies first, and then the waterfall. Does that sound good to you?" he asked. Her face lit up
They arrived back at the cabin, their backpacks filled with supplies. Camden was eager to learn the layout of the cabin and began organizing their newly acquired items with Clayton's assistance. Together, they worked harmoniously, finding a place for everything and ensuring that their living space felt comfortable and welcoming and that all the necessities were easy to find. Once they finished their tasks, Clayton declared that it was time to head to the waterfall. Camden's eyes lit up with excitement as she grabbed the new backpack, quickly stuffing her pink frilly bikini inside, along with some dry clothes just in case and some snacks. She couldn't wait to experience the cool, refreshing water. She was outside in a flash and had shifted into her wolf form before Clayton had even managed to walk out the door. She was bounding up and down around him, filled with excitement. “Okay, we’re going, we’re going,” he confirmed with a chuckle. H
The pair wandered back to the cabin aimlessly, enjoying the surroundings and the riches that nature had to offer. Once they arrived back, they shifted into their human forms, feeling the exhaustion from the day's excitement starting to catch up with them. As they were heading inside, Clayton noticed some dark clouds looming overhead in the distance. "Shit... That's not good" he mumbled to himself. "What's wrong?" Camden asked, turning her gaze in the same direction as his. "It looks like there's a storm coming, and the storms here can be vicious. At least we got supplies today" he replied, concern evident in his voice. Camden's unease grew, her senses heightened by the impending danger. They moved inside where Camden flopped onto the bed wearing the pair of leggings and t-shirt that she had packed in her backpack earlier and had taken with to the waterfall. "We need to get you a couch," she mused with a playful smile. "I've thought about it, but getting the mattress here was hard eno
After about an hour of talking and getting to know one another a little better, Clayton decided it was time to tell her something that was weighing heavily on him. The potential deal breaker. He walked over to the kitchen, his mind consumed by a whirlwind of emotions. In the back of a cupboard, he found what he was looking for, a bottle of whiskey. "Oooh!" Camden exclaimed, her eyes lighting up with excitement and curiosity. "What's the occasion?" she asked, a playful smile tugging at her lips. Clayton's gaze met hers, a mix of apprehension and sadness in his eyes. "I don't think you'll be smiling after I tell you.” he replied, taking a long swig from the bottle. Camden's face fell, and her playful demeanour shifted. "Oh, shit..." Her expression turned somber. "Give me that," she requested, reaching up for the bottle as she remained seated on the floor in front of the fireplace. "Something tells me I'm going to need this too," she added with a frown. "You might," Clayton replied, ha
"Any other surprising revelations you'd like to share?" Camden asked with a mischievous smirk, her eyes sparkling with playful curiosity. "I don't think so," Clayton replied, a playful smile tugging at his lips. "How about you?" he asked. "Well, besides the fact that I was previously engaged and I’m not a virgin, nothing else comes to mind," Camden replied with a teasing grin. "You were engaged?!" Clayton gasped dramatically, clutching at his chest as if in shock. He imitated Camden's earlier gesture, pretending to faint. Camden burst into laughter, enjoying their playful banter. "Sorry, I thought the wedding dress you found me in made that pretty obvious," she confessed, still chuckling. Clayton stifled a fake sob, exaggerating his distress. "Camden, I just don't see how we can move past this. And not a virgin? This is a travesty. How could the goddess expect me to love someone like you?" he teased, his voice laced with mock indignation. Camden playfully elbowed him in the ribs, her
Their lips remained locked in a passionate kiss, their connection growing deeper with every passing moment. Camden's fingertips traced the contours of Clayton's chest, eliciting a shiver of pleasure from him. As her arms wrapped around his neck, his hands explored her curves, their bodies melting together in a dance of desire. With a playful twinkle in his eyes, Clayton grabbed her butt again and lifted her up, their laughter mingling with the sound of the storm raging outside. Camden couldn't resist the urge to kiss his neck, nibbling at his earlobe, causing him to sigh and moan in response. The intensity of their connection heightened, their breath mingling in the air. However, their passionate moment was interrupted by an enormous crack of lightning, followed by thunder that shook the cabin.Camden's heart raced, her body jolting with surprise. "Fuck!" Clayton exclaimed, his gaze fixed on the window. "There's a tree on fire out there," he said, concern etched on his face. "But we'l
"What do you want to do today?" Clayton asked, breaking the silence that enveloped the cabin. Camden let out a whiny groan and covered her face with a pillow. "Well, at this point, I'm uncertain as to whether I'm actually going to survive the day," she complained, her voice muffled. Clayton chuckled at her dramatic response. "For real though, was there anything you wanted to do today?" he persisted, genuinely interested. "You're kidding, right?" Camden replied, peeking out from behind the pillow. "Like what? You wanna go for a hike or something? At this rate, the only thing we can legitimately do is go fucking white river rafting - we can take off from your front door! The weather is horrific! If we aren't struck by lightning we'll drown out there."Clayton burst into laughter, finding amusement in her exasperation. "We'll have to get creative then, won't we? I'm sure you can think of SOMETHING to do indoors," he suggested, raising an eyebrow playfully. Camden sighed, considering his
Clayton shivered, partly from the cold and partly from the lingering sensation of Camden's touch. "You'd better put some clothes on," Camden sighed, breaking their embrace and biting her lip as she looked at his bare chest. He couldn't help but smile, enjoying the way she looked at him. Heading to a chest of drawers, Clayton pulled out a pair of black sweatpants and a black t-shirt. Camden stared into the dancing flames as Clayton dressed, her thoughts seemingly lost in the flickering firelight."You hungry?" Clayton asked, making his way into the kitchen. "No, but I should probably eat for the sake of my hangover," Camden replied, her voice tinged with a touch of exhaustion. She suddenly turned towards him with a hesitant look on her face. "Would it be weird if I did some yoga?" she asked, a hint of embarrassment colouring her cheeks. Clayton chuckled, finding her self-consciousness endearing. "Pffft... Not at all. Yoga away. I'd love to see how flexible you are," he teased with a sl
Matt let out a sigh, wanting to be done with the conversation now. "Just make sure you keep your end of the deal. I'm doing this for Cam... and for what we used to have," he said, his gaze drifting off momentarily as if lost in memories. "You know, I considered going with you, but I know how threatened you feel by me," Matt teased, trying to keep a straight face but unable to do so. Clayton scoffed and chuckled. "I might actually miss you, Matt. Not the part where you trailed after Cam like a lost puppy, or the way you'd watch her move, or the way your hands lingered on her a little too long..." Clayton went on, leaving Matt with a sheepish expression on his face. "But I'll miss you.""God, Clayton, I'm not going to die! Well, actually, I might if they ever find out that I knew about this and never said anything... But let's hope that doesn't happen. Just figure this shit out, okay? If I can help the two of you in any way, let me know, but something tells me this journey doesn't involv
Instead of leading him to the lounge, as Clayton had anticipated, he led him back to the kitchen. The change in setting made the conversation seem more serious. More threatening.Matt took a seat, followed shortly by Clayton, who sat directly opposite him. Matt didn't beat around the bush. "You know I know," he stated. It wasn't a question. Clayton shrugged, seemingly unfazed. Matt sighed before continuing, "Where are you guys going?" he asked, his tone firm and serious. "We don't know yet. We still need to decide. I only just found out about all of this," Clayton replied, feeling a bit annoyed. It was pretty unreasonable of Matt to expect them to already have a plan when he had literally only found out all this life-changing stuff a few minutes ago. He felt like he needed a minute to reflect and to think it all through."Clayton, I'm not fucking around when I say this... If you hurt her, I will fucking end you. We might not be mates anymore, but I still feel responsible for her and p
Camden couldn't help the tiny sob that escaped her lips. To think that Clayton had wondered his whole life whether his parents had loved him broke her heart. Her pregnancy hormones were kicking into overdrive and she could feel that she would start to spiral soon if she didn't regain her focus, so she pressed on, hoping to lighten the situation with a little levity. "Also," she went on, wiping a tear from her eye, "I figured while I was getting the inside scoop on your family history, I'd ask about your real name," she explained. Clayton perked up, very interested to hear what she was about to reveal. "Well, I didn't ask about your first name. I don't know... I felt weird about it. I felt like too much would change if I had to start calling you something else now on top of all this other stuff and I know you as Clayton and it—" she was rambling on when Clayton cut her off. "What is it?" he asked, unable to disguise his curiosity. "Wolfe," she revealed with the tiniest hint of a smile.
Clayton couldn't help the smile that spread across his features. Despite everything Camden was telling him, he couldn't help but feel joy in this one, singular moment.Camden was also wearing a small smile, happy to see his happiness, but simultaneously worried about what the future held for them all."I knew it was a boy," Clayton whispered softly, gazing into Camden's eyes which looked back at him with uncertainty. She nodded. "She said we'll have a girl too. But the girl won't have this... gene, or whatever you call it," Camden replied, sounding a little relieved. Clayton's smile grew even wider and Camden's heart all but burst as she saw his eyes twinkle with excitement at the prospect. "How lucky are we?" he asked, his voice low but filled with anticipation and love. "Well, that has yet to be determined because there are so many things we need to take into consideration here, Clayton," Camden replied, grounding Clayton back in reality. "Like what?" he asked, the momentary high be
Camden followed, trailing behind him as he settled back down at the kitchen table once more. His anger and frustration were all but palpable and Camden felt guilty for having brushed him off and ignored him just now. "How much did you hear?" she asked as she settled back down in her seat. "It doesn't matter. Start from the beginning," he instructed, taking a deep breath as he tried to relax. Camden figured there was no point in trying to sugarcoat things or beat around the bush. It was his truth and he deserved to know. "I told you, I had an... experience. I don't know if it was a vision, or if it was a dream, or if it was something that really happened, just on a different plane of existence. To be honest, I don't want to get too philosophical about it, because it makes me uncomfortable. But I know it happened, and I know it was real because Matt just proved it," Camden explained, fiddling with the sleeve of her wet hoodie. Clayton said nothing, only watching her, waiting for her t
"Sorry... I'm sorry," Clayton immediately apologized, seeing how his reaction had startled Camden. He quickly got up and went to the sink, grabbing a cloth to stop the beer from dripping down onto her lap. "I'm so sorry, babe," he continued to apologize as he soaked up the spilled beer from the table, "I was frustrated. You guys aren't telling me what's going on," he tried to explain, but he knew it was a poor excuse."I need to make a call," Matt announced as he headed out of the kitchen. Light lightening, Camden was up, chasing after him desperately while she left Clayton to mop up his spilled beer and mope as he continued to be ignored."Stop!" she cried, tugging at Matt's arm as she caught up with him in the lounge. "Camden, please... this is hard enough as it is..." he said in a small voice. It was then that she noticed that his eyes were glistening as if he were on the verge of tears. Her anger and panic began to dissipate as he stood in front of her, unmoving."Please..." Camde
"So, when are we leaving?" Matt asked as he stripped off his soaked sweater and pulled a beer out of the fridge. "Want one?" he offered Clayton. "It's not even 6am!" Clayton exclaimed in disbelief. "It's been a rough night," Matt replied with a shrug as he snapped the can open. Clayton regarded him for a moment then relented. "Okay, fine," he agreed, gesturing for a beer from the fridge. Matt smiled and handed him one before taking a long drink of his own.All the while, Camden sat at the kitchen table, fiddling with a pamphlet about the Standing Stones. "You alright?" Clayton asked, resting his hand on her shoulder as he stood behind her. "I dunno..." she admitted, continuing to toy with the pamphlet. "You're soaked, why don't you go take a shower or at least get changed into some dry clothes?" Clayton suggested, brushing a drenched lock of hair behind her ear.She sighed, but made no effort to move, still pressing and folding the paper in front of her. "Baby?" Clayton murmured, brus
"Matt?" Camden whispered, shaking him lightly. He groaned and furrowed his brow, as if annoyed by the intrusion. "Matt?" she whispered again, but suddenly she heard Clayton's voice ringing through the air. "Camden?"She looked up, searching the perimeter of the circle for Clayton. Spotting him, her heart skipped a beat. He stood beside the circle, torn between rushing in and waiting for some kind of confirmation that the ritual was over.Camden wasted no time; she rushed to him as fast as her legs could carry her. Leaping over the salt circle, she jumped into his arms. He caught her eagerly, but his face suddenly fell as he exclaimed, "Babe! The circle!" worry etching his features. "It's fine," she said. "She broke it. There," Camden pointed behind them to a clear break in the salt before smothering him in kisses."I was so worried about you," Clayton murmured, holding her cheeks and looking into her eyes before pulling her to him in a fierce hug. "I'm here. I'm fine," she assured him
Camden sat quietly, contemplating everything she had just learned about her mate and what the implications were for her. She drained her glass of wine with a series of long, deep gulps, only to find that it had been refilled as soon as she moved her hand away from her lips. She let out a small incredulous laugh. "Okay, so quick recap here. Clayton is from a bloodline that dates back to the beginning days of werewolves, he can shift into a werewolf, in the traditional half-man, half-wolf sense, my son will also have this ability, and the whole world will want to kill them for this? Did I miss anything?" she asked, pursing her lips as she waited for Selene's response."Yes. The bloodline cannot die. The end of the Lupi Noctis bloodline will be the beginning of the end for all werewolves," Selene added gravely, her gaze piercing through the dim light of the stone circle. "Their existence is intricately tied to the balance of the natural and supernatural world. Without them, the balance w
