Mother-Daughter time

When Vanessa walked into the house, she felt a pain, a dull ache in her chest. She had list everything dear to her in her past life and now that she has a second chance, she swore to make everything right!

"Vanessa, Vanessa."

She heard a familiar, warm but anxious sounding voice calling out her name.

Immediately, Vanessa turned her head instinctively to see her mother's beautiful face.

"Vanessa, where did you go? I've been looking for you, are you alright? Do you feel dizzy? Are you hungry? You scared me to death! You just returned from the hospital and the doctor said you need rest. You didn't even inform anyone of your whereabouts. If something happened to you you, what should I do then?"

Maureen grabbed Vanessa's hand tightly, and Maureen's eyes reddened as she spoke.

The doctor had stressed on Vanessa getting at least a week's rest after she had a terrible fall down the stairs that could have claimed her life. It's just been three days and Vanessa is already running around making Maureen restless. When Maureen heard about Vanessa's fall, she was scared out of her wits. However, she quickly rushed to the hospital to check on her child. When she reached the hospital, her heart was in her throat as she waited with bated breath for the doctors to come out.

Fortunately, Vanessa survived the fall with no serious damage just superficial wounds which the doctors said it was a miracle, she wasn't bedridden. The doctor told Maureen that Vanessa should recuperate from her injuries. What no one knows was that the fall wasn't just an accident but a premeditated plan, Khloe had set the trap and the ever so 'naive' Vanessa had fallen for it. It was at that time in the hospital she had reincarnated.

"Mom? I'm alright, see, perfectly fine" Vanessa turned around to show herself to her mother.

As Maureen wiped away her tears, she said "silly girl, if you want to go out just inform me or any of the maids. So a driver can be arranged for you, you can't possibly drive like this and where are your bandages? Did you remove them?"

Vanessa blinked as hard as she could. She felt a sharp pain when she stared into her mother's teary eyes.

She couldn't believe how stupid she was in her last life. To not have accepted this unconditional love that was offered by her mother without wanting anything in return.

"Mom," Vanessa called out in a hoarse voice.

Putting aside the pain in her heart, Vanessa finally had time to feel excited about her rebirth.

She sat down next to her mother and hugged her abruptly before exclaiming "Mom, I've missed you so much"

In Vanessa's previous life, she had only stayed with the Lawsons for two years after reuniting. More than a year into her marriage, her parents died in a terrible car accident leaving only their ashes behind. She only spent no more than to three years with her biological parents in her past life.

Although the time was short, her parents' love for her was real and still is.

There were times that Khloe would get jealous, saying the twenty years of love she had received is nothing when compared to the love showered on Vanessa for the past year.

"Vanessa."

Maureen was not used to Vanessa being open about her feelings so she was surprised when her daughter hugged her.

Although the two were mother and daughter, this daughter of hers had been exchanged for twenty years. Instead it was Khloe, whom Maureen had grown up loving.

However, she still accepted Vanessa's affectionate behavior as it wasn't everyday she got to hold her child in her arms.

Ever since Vanessa's return, the mother and daughter had been embarrassed to show affection for one another, unlike how Maureen was with Khloe.

Maureen also wanted her biological daughter to be affectionate with her, but Vanessa did not grow up by her side and she was already twenty when they reunited. So, it was natural for her to be a bit distant.

"Mom, let me hug you properly. I've longed for this moment."

" I'm at home every day and you can see me whenever you like, even hug me. "

The mother and daughter hugged each other for a while before Maureen gently pushed her daughter away

Then she gently stroked her daughter's face, carefully examining it.

Vanessa looked like the perfect mixture of her and her husband, Adrian. How could she have been do blind in the past to not realize that Khloe looked nothing like them, not a single resemblance.

"Vanessa promise me that you would take good care of yourself in the future, you can't be careless."

" Mom, I'm sorry I caused you to worry. I promise I won't do anything stupid again. "

Now she had a second chance in life, she would be a fool if she did anything stupid again.

This time, she just wanted to life a happy and free life. She wanted to live better than before and safeguard the Lawson corporation and protect her loved ones.

In her previous life, her adoptive parents did not cut off contact with her just because she had returned to the Lawsons, and their affection towards her remained the same.

On the other hand, Khloe, who had grown up in the Lawson family, did not want to return to her biological parents even after knowing who they were

The honest couple didn't force their daughter to return home and felt Vanessa's parents raised Khloe well. So, to repay their kindness, they showered Vanessa with more love.

"So the marriage proposal with the Quinns..."

" Mom, I promised to marry Leonardo. " As a matter of fact she was at the stage of courting him.

Maureen was stunned for a moment when she heard this. Then, she reached out to Vanessa's head to make sure she didn't have a fever before asking worriedly.

"Nessa, did Master Leonardo do something to you? I know you like Francis, though I disapprove of him, you don't have to do anything against your will just because of the pressure from the Quinns. "

" Even if we go bankrupt because of the Quinns, I'll never let you marry the young master of the Quinns family and be one a widow! I want to hold my grandchildren before departing from the earth!" She added through gritted teeth.

Maureen has been against this marriage from the very beginning. But Adrian was afraid to refuse it, fearing that he might anger the Quinns. So, he left the decision to Vanessa to make where she outrightly rejected the proposal without a thought.

"Mom, I'm actually courting Leo--"

Knock! Knock!!

The knocks on the door interrupted Vanessa mid sentence.

"Mom, is Vanessa awake? I've boiled some porridge and fried a few small dishes on the table. If Vanessa's awake, let her have something to eat. '

It was Khloe.

Vanessa's expression soured instantly and hatred flashed across her eyes.

This "sister" of hers killed her family and her daughter not only that but she connived with that scum of a man to cheat her and her family off their properties! She stole everything from her!

In this life, she would never let Khloe harm her parents. Nessa would drive Khloe out of the Lawson family and take back the identity of the Lawson's only daughter after all Khloe is not a Lawson.

Everything that Khloe had in her previous life, Nessa vowed to destroy. She would make Khloe the sore loser in this lifetime, there's no room for mistakes.

"Nessa dear, your sister made some food for you. Come eat. How would you recover quickly if you starve yourself."

Maureen looked at her daughter with worry in her eyes.

Vanessa held back her hatred. Right now, Khloe was still loved by her parents and Vanessa had no evidence to pull off her mask yet. It would be difficult for her to try and expose Khloe for who she is. However as long as Vanessa was alive, she would do anything to reveal khloe's true intentions. She would make sure Khloe is left with nothing and nowhere to go.

When Vanessa heard what her mother said, warmth immediately engulfed her.

In her previous life, she always avoided her mother's affections. It feels good to receive the love she yearned for before her death.

"Come in Khloe"

Khloe pushed open the door and stepped in with a gentle sisterly smile on her face, she looked completely different from Vanessa. Vanessa was a mixture of her parents' good genes; she was beautiful. Although she grew up in a poor environment, it did nothing to hide her beauty.

She also had an elegant yet powerful temperament by nature. Her adoptive parents were very kind and loving to her. They sponsored her interest by letting her learn how to play the piano, play chess, write poetry, and painting. Though not financially stable they supported her to the best of their ability, which enhanced her elegance even more.
