Chapter 13: A Glimpse in The Past

Everything started to become awkward between me and Calgary since the day Auror healed him. I could no longer look him straight in the eyes, afraid he'd sense how hard it was getting for me to tame Auror in the past couple days. She's being stubborn and was begging to get close with Calgary's wolf, which I couldn't allow or else we might walk out of this place with Calgary's mark on my neck.

I couldn't let that happen. I made promises with Luhence, built dreams with him. I had already given him my heart and there's no way that I would betray the man who had always been there for me, for someone I only knew for a few weeks.

"There you go?" I handed Calla the mirror. "See? You look pretty."

Calla smiled after seeing her crown braid. She stood up and hugged me to probably thank me for fixing her hair. I kissed her on top of her head, and when the door opened, we both turned to look at Lynel.

"Hello there, princess Calla," he greeted with a smile before he lifted Calla. "Why don't you show your hair to Ahma, hmm?"

Calla nodded. She ran outside after Lynel put her down, and when Calla was gone, the smile on Lynel's face slowly faded away.

My brows furrowed when I heard him sigh. "Everything alright?" I asked.

Lynel buried his palms in his pockets before he leaned on the wall. "I think I get it now."

"What do you mean?"

He made a 'tic' sound with his tongue before he forced a small smile. "Why Alpha started treating you nicely. Not that he's not a good man, but things started changing between the two of you... and everyone sees that."

My cheeks burned with what he said. I dodged his gaze and swallowed before I spoke. "I don't think so. He's still rude to me most of the time."

"Only when you're provoking him, though." He touched his jaw. "I think his wolf is going against him whenever he's treating you badly. That's a good thing, you know? It's very rare to have a fated Alpha and Luna nowadays."

"Oh, no no." I let out an awkward laugh. "I already vowed to be someone else's Luna."

His expression softened. "I heard about that, too, and I'm not here to convince you to choose my brother over him, but I do hope that you would at least consider your options. Anyway, Ahma baked some cinnamon for everyone. Let's go grab some--"

Lynel paused. His eyes turned gold as if he connected with someone through mind link, and when his eyes went back to its normal shade, he cursed under his breath.

My forehead creased. "What's wrong?"

He heaved a sigh. "Alpha Lawrence is unconscious. Looks like someone tried to steal the remains at your pack cemetery."

Fear thrummed in my body, and the first thing I thought of was my parents' graves... and Alpha Lawrence's condition.

"Is he alright?" I asked as we made our way down the stairs.

"He's alive, but looks like he's badly hurt."

"What about the graves?"

His face turned pale. "The remains have been stolen."

I felt like my heartbeat just stopped after I heard his answer. No. My parents didn't deserve this. Why would they disrespect those who are already on the other side? This is insane!

We hurried towards the woods. Calgary was carrying Alpha Lawrence on his back when we saw him. Lynel immediately helped bring Alpha Lawrence to the pack doctor, and after they managed to put him on the bed, I stood next to Alpha Lawrence's side.

I noticed my Mom's necklace hanging on his neck. His body was badly injured, but looked like he did everything he could just for Mom's necklace to not be snatched from him.

"He's having an internal bleeding," said the doctor.

"Was he shot?" I asked.

The doctor looked at me as she nodded. "Five times... at least."

I shut my eyes and took a deep breath for a moment. "Can you save him?"

"I'll see what I can do."

Lynel and Calgary left to talk about what happened. They gathered the Deltas, too to probably heighten the defense around their pack's territory. When the doctor left to get everything she would need to treat Alpha Lawrence, Calla came in, held me by my hand, and then placed her other palm on Alpha Lawrence's chest.

I didn't know what happened, but it was like I was swallowed by a time loop until I found myself in the past.

My heart banged loudly inside my chest, and when I saw Calla on my side while she was still holding my hand, my brows furrowed in confusion.

"Where are we?" I asked.

Calla looked at me for a moment before she pointed somewhere. My gaze turned towards the direction she was pointing at, and when I saw Mom from a distance, my heart almost jumped out of my chest. She looked younger, as if she was just my age. Her smile was so lively while she was hiding behind a tree.

It didn't take long before Alpha Lawrence appeared. He snatched Mom on her waist and locked her between his arms. My heart bled when I saw the glow of happiness and love in Alpha Lawrence's eyes while he was tucking a few strands of Mom's hair on the back of her ear. He promised her a lifetime of happiness with him, and I knew Mom wanted nothing but to spend her life with him, too.

The scene suddenly changed, as if we travelled to the night Mom had lost the fight for the Luna position. Alpha Lawrence begged on his knees when Mom started packing her stuff. She was crying, too while dodging Alpha's reddened eyes, as if she knew she wouldn't be able to leave him if she'd see the sadness in his eyes.

"We'll runaway together. We'll live a life far from here. We can go to Remorse where the rules of Nirvana no longer matter. Just don't leave me, Nimpha. I can't live without you..."

Tears trailed down my cheeks after hearing Alpha Lawrence's words. I felt how much he meant everything he said to my Mom, but I realized that Mom was willing to leave him to save his life.

She'd rather break their hearts than let the man she loved die for not honoring the laws of our district.

For the second time, the scene before our eyes changed. I saw Alpha Lawrence pulling himself up after Calgary threw him on the ground.

"Knock it off, Lawrence! You know better than this!" Calgary's voice thundered.

Alpha Lawrence grabbed his bag. I realized he was leaving Nirvana to probably look for my Mom who left Zenios after she lost the fight. Maybe Calgary came to stop Alpha Lawrence from running away, but Alpha Lawrence had already made up his mind.

"I don't need any of this. I never wanted to be Alpha! I just want a life with her, to build a family with her, and to spend every single day next to her. You will never understand because you, too, would give up everything for power." Alpha Lawrence flashed a broken smile. "You're just like everybody else, Cal..."

Calgary's jaw clenched. "I fucking begged the council to let us choose our own Luna so don't you fucking tell me I only wanted power."

Alpha Lawrence turned his back on Calgary. "If you're really on my side, you won't get in the way. I need to find her."

"There's nothing for you to look for." Calgary's fists turned into ball. "She's already pregnant with Lance's child."

My chest tightened when I saw how a sense of hopelessness crossed Alpha Lawrence's face. His tears formed as he turned to Calgary again as if he just heard the worst news he could possibly hear.

"That's not possible. We're in love. We promised to stay faithful to each other. Don't you fucking lie to me!"

I sobbed when I felt Alpha Lawrence's pain. When I couldn't take it anymore, I pulled my hand from Calla's grip. Our surrounding went back to normal, and when I fell on the floor, sobbing in pain, Calgary stormed in to ask me what happened, but the pain was too much that all I could do was cry.

He realized that, too, so instead of asking me again, Calgary sat on the floor and pulled me to his chest. He caressed my hair as if he was trying to sooth the pain I was feeling while I cried my heart out on his chest.

"It was my fault. If only I wasn't conceived in the first place, he would never be this way..."

Calgary took a sharp breath. "Don't ever blame yourself. I was the one who's really at fault here."

I sniffed as I looked at him. "W--What do you mean?"

His expression softened. "Because I was the one who hid Nimpha and Lance from Lawrence..."

After she lost the fight for the Luna position, she realized that Lawrence would be willing to risk his own life just to be with her." I saw his Adam's apple bobbed up and down. "She didn't want that to happen. She'd rather see him marry someone else than let him die because of his love for her."I sniffed when my tears threatened to fall again. "So you helped Mom and Dad hide from him?"He nodded. "When I found out what Lawrence was planning to do, I asked Calla's mother's help. She's a part she-wolf and a part witch that's why she was able to perform a cloaking spell. That's why even when your Mom and Lance stayed in Claivan for a couple months, Lawrence wasn't able to sense them. They just returned to Zenios when your Mom was about to give birth to you.

When I felt him nearing, I sniffed and immediately wiped the tears that built on the corners of my eyes."Why did you follow me? You should be with him."Calgary sighed. "Nah. I won't make him feel better. The best I can do is to make sure we'll retrieve your mother's remains." He moistened his lower lip. "Come with me. I know something that might make you feel better."I felt a different kind of warmth wrap arou
