By morning, Emma was extremely hungry. She and Casey had not talked again after she went off to think. She ended up falling asleep. She saw that all the other women were still lying down. She could tell that some of them were awake while others were asleep. Casey was standing in the corner, making different signs with her hands and chanting some words. Emma soon realised that the young woman was trying to summon her powers but whatever she was doing was not working, evidenced by the look of frustration on her face.“I’ve tried everything,” Casey said. “Nothing is working.”“It hasn’t been twenty four hours yet.”“I know, but I thought there would be a loophole or something,” the woman said. “I was hoping for even a small sign that I could be able to use my powers any time soon. This is hopeless. I don’t want to stay here till I get…” Casey stopped and glanced at the other women. “I just can’t take this anymore. I hate this place.”Emma didn’t know what to say since she hated the place
“What are you going to do?” Emma asked her new friend.“I’m going to perform that can get us all out of here.”“But you don’t have your powers.”“True, but I can siphon from other elements. It may not be as strong as my natural power and may not give the best results but I’m quite sure it can get me out of here.”“Are you saying that you can siphon power from a pregnant woman?”Casey shook her head and looked around as if trying to find something. “Not just any pregnant woman. Come here.” Emma frowned but went closer anyway. Casey started whispering. “If I have the blood of a witch, a vampire and a wolf, I can use it to create an invisibility spell.”“How will that help us get out?”“I don’t have time to explain,” Casey said. She looked around again and went towards one of the corners. There was a heap of trash there. Casey picked up a soft metallic tin and started tearing it apart. When she had three parts, she gave one to the pregnant woman and another to Emma. “I need your blood,”
Casey took an antidote for the herb that had taken made her powers dormant. Her powers returned fully a few minutes after that. She used them to cloak her house and make it invisible. If the vampires came looking for her, they would only see a bush around and wouldn’t be able to see the house and its occupants. They wouldn’t even know where exactly it was.The pregnant woman was very tired so she slept almost as soon as they arrived. Casey and Emma went to sit on the porch. They talked as they took some drinks.“You’re a hero, Casey. What you did today, saving all of us, was epic. You’re the reason we have powers, to use them for good. Some of us only use our powers to save ourselves but you saved everyone, including the woman who mocked us.”“It was fairly easy,” Casey said. “Don’t act like I saved the world.”“But you did. Those women had been there for weeks and were just waiting to die but you took them out of there and gave them a chance to live again. You’re so amazing and I’m m
Emma turned and her eyes went wide when she saw Lucius. He was wearing a black vest and black short with red trainers. “Hey,” Emma said.“Come with me,” he said, and ran eastwards. Emma started running, following him as they went deeper into the forest and further from the pack household. Thick mist had covered the entire forest, the fog obscuring the trees and bushes. The gentle rustling of leaves, cries of the birds and the patter of their feet were the only things that could be heard. Lucius led her to a hidden spot in the middle of the forest. It was a secluded clearing surrounded by tall trees and thick shrubs. The rays of the sun seeped through the tree leaves, creating different patterns on the lush foliage. There was a large tree trunk at the centre. Mist had settled on it due to the cold. As soon as they got there, Lucius pushed Emma against a tall tree and started kissing her.Lucius’s arms wrapped tightly around Emma, pulling her close to his body. Emma’s heart was poundi
What could he have done? Emma wondered as she left the clearing and started to move aimlessly around the forest. The mist had reduced and the sun was starting to shine brighter, making the atmosphere warmer. She couldn’t help but worry about what Lucius was hiding from her. She debated going to the pack to find out for herself but decided it would be a bad idea, given what she was wearing. She returned to town, feeling low.“You look haggard,” Casey commented when she entered the room.“I need a drink,” Emma said before sitting down.“What happened to you, girl?” Casey asked.“I had the best morning, but also the worst one.” Emma said. “I should have never returned here. Maybe I should just leave.”Casey stood up and came to stand behind her. “Now, what happened to you? Don’t tell me you went to the pack and ruined everything.”“I plan to go there as soon as I finish breakfast. I want to know what that man is hiding.”“Who?”“Who else? Lucius, of course. He told me he did something ba
“No,” Emma said, going closer to Katya. “I’m not leaving until this young woman tells me why she’s treating me like this. I don’t think I deserve this kind of treatment.”Emma had literally saved the girl’s life. Although she had done something wrong, she didn’t think she deserved the harsh treatment.Katya laughed and shook her head. “Have you heard yourself? You haven’t done anything to receive this kind of treatment?” the girl walked around the room, shaking her head. “You’re something else, Emma Greenfield. You left the pack without saying goodbye to me. How could be so cruel? You knew how much I was getting attached to you but you didn’t care to let me know that you were leaving. I wouldn’t have stopped you know. Sure it would have been hard for me to let go but you didn’t have to go like that. You didn’t even say goodbye to Lucius and now he went and ruined his life.”“Michelle told me that he married her. I don’t understand why he would do anything like that. What really happen
“Isn’t that,” Casey said, pulling Emma back into the restaurant they had been about to exit. “Michelle.”Emma ran to the window and looked out, only to see Michelle going into a hotel with a tall man. “Do you think she’s cheating on Lucius?”The two women were in Limdale, a small town near Fernville. They had gone there to see Casey’s cousin and had stopped to eat lunch before proceeding to the house she lived in. Emma had refused to talk to Lucius when he showed up and had told him she wasn’t yet ready although the curiosity was killing her.“I have no idea,” Casey said. “Why don’t we go and find out? We can pretend to ask for a room there. While we’re at it, we can ask the receptionist if the two needed a room.”“Okay,” Emma said. The two went out and crossed the road. Upon entering, Emma and Casey saw a small reception area with a female receptionist. The lobby was decorated with mediocre artwork and paintings on the white walls. It had a coffee table and some wooden chairs that lo
Lucius looked at her like he could not believe what he was hearing. His hand found his way over the table to touch the back of hers. She looked up with a warm smile. “I may be staying for a while. There’s something I have to deal with before I go.”After seeing what Michelle was up to, Emma had changed her mind and decided to stay. If Michelle was cheating on Lucius, it was possible that she didn’t care about him. The marriage seemed like one out of convenience since both did not seem to care much for each other. Both of them were not happy. For Lucius and Katya’s sakes, she decided to help the couple work on the marriage. If she couldn’t give him the happiness he deserved. The first thing was to find out what Michelle was up to and put a stop to it. If Michelle stopped seeing another man, maybe she would want to work on her marriage with Lucius. If Lucius had married her, she couldn’t be that terrible to him. Emma wanted to think that even Michelle was redeemable.“What made you chan
The evening was calm. A gentle breeze carried the sweet smelling scents of different flowers, spreading it all over the garden. Emma’s heart was filled with delight as she strolled through the garden next to her favourite person. The garden was filled with daises, roses, and tulips among other flowers, creating a very colourful scene. This matched with Emma’s mood which was cheerful. With her hand in his, they walked along the cobblestone path, letting their hearts speak to each other.Lucius was telling Emma about his childhood. He narrated to her about funny adventures he and his friends had engaged in while in the garden. As he showed her different places, she felt like she was reliving his childhood with him, and it strengthened their connection.“What?” Lucius suddenly said and stopped walking. He seemed to be listening to someone via mind link. Since Emma had been integrated to the park, she was now able to mind link with other pack members. After the mating process, she and Luc
Two days later…It was a beautiful morning. The sun rising and the atmosphere was becoming warmer each passing minute. The large dining room in the pack house was a hub of activity with many of the pack members having their breakfast. Casey and Emma were enjoying their hearty meal in one of the best tables while Michelle was in a corner downing her food as fast as she could so she could get out of there. Her position as Luna had not been officially taken away from her but everyone knew that she was no longer the alphas mate and no longer respected her. Even her former best friend Janet did not want to be associated with her. She claimed it was because Michelle tried to kill Emma, but everyone knew that she had never been a true friend to Michelle. She had been in it for the benefits which was understandable. Michelle was very hard to love.“I wonder why she doesn’t just leave,” Casey said referring to Michelle. “No one wants her here, including her family.”“Be nice,” Emma reprimande
Emma woke up with a jolt. When he eyes shot open, she looked around the strange room which reeked of herbs and medicine. She was sweating so much that her entire blouse was wet. Her head felt heavy. She closed her eyes and thought of the last thing she remembered which was Michelle wriggling in pain on the floor. Her hand instinctively moved to her chest where there had been a wound. It had healed. She didn’t understand why Michelle had also been in pain. The only reasonable answer was that a witch had linked them so that Michelle would also die if she killed Emma. Could Casey have done it?Emma lay awake for a few minutes, not bothering to get up because she could feel that her body was still very weak. Whatever Michelle had used to try to murder her must have been very strong. She was about to drift off to sleep when she heard voices. The people they belonged to where still far because she couldn’t make them out clearly.Suddenly, a sweet-smelling scent wafted into the room. It was
Lucius didn’t like having to cut down indigenous trees but the pack needed more land for a meat processing plant. The town was not developing fast enough and they had decided to start industrializing more as a development strategy. There were a lot of untapped opportunities that he was sure would improve the lives of his pack and the neighbouring packs if implemented. The humans were progressing very fast and it was best for them to do the same. If they stayed backward for long, the humans would try to come and take over the land.Lucius was not afraid of what the humans would try to do to them. He was worried there would be too much unnecessary bloodshed. If they developed their town, the humans would not see the need to try to do it for them.Lucius was talking to some council members under a tent when he started to feel a kind of pain he had never experienced before. He almost screamed out when it hit but he had to stay strong since he was the alpha. Under no circumstances was he a
The house was empty and quiet. It was also fairly cool. Michelle was happy to lead the guard to one of the rooms on the ground floor. She had linked her arm with his and that was enough for him to forget all about his job and follow her like a puppy. As soon as they entered the room, Michelle started kissing him. He kissed him back, going fast as if he had been craving her lips for the longest time possible. The kiss disgusted Michelle because she had no interest in the man but she had to bear with it. She was a woman on a mission and this time, she didn’t want to stop until she had achieved her goal. With Emma in the pack, Michelle knew that she would never be happy no matter how she tried. Soon, Lucius would divorce her and that would turn her into a ‘nobody’. The whole pack would no longer be afraid to make fun of her in public. She knew they humiliated her in private, saying all kinds of mean things behind her back. Because she was the luna, they could never say it to her face. I
When Michelle heard Lucius leaving in the middle of the night, she knew he was going to see Emma. She felt the bile in her throat and got up from the bed. She went to her closet and opened a jewellery box. Underneath a necklace was a key. She removed the key and went back to the bedroom. Squatting, she inserted the key into the bottom drawer and twisted it. She pulled the drawer open and stared at the box inside it. Grabbing the box, Michelle stood up straight and went to put it on the bed. She sat down and opened the box.She removed the dagger inside it and stared at it. There was a vial of a certain poison in the box as well. Michelle placed the dagger back in the box and returned it to where it had come from before locking up. This time, she didn’t take the key back to the closet. She placed it under the mattress.Michelle went back to bed and pulled out her phone. She went to the contacts and deleted Axel’s number. She couldn’t believe that Axel had been brought down by Jack Carv
When Emma woke up, she was lying on a bed and it was dark. Slowly, the memory of Lucius injecting her came to her mind. She sat up and looked around the dark room. It was better than most of the rooms in the pack house. Where was she? She slowly got up from the bed and went to the window. She pulled the curtains aside and looked outside. She was not shocked to notice she was in the cottage Michelle had almost killed her in. she sighed and went to turn on the light before trying to open the door. Emma’s heart started racing when she realised that it was locked. She banged on it as loud as she could.“Hello? Who’s there?” she yelled on top of her voice. “Get me out of here!”A few seconds later, she started hearing footsteps. She went back to the window, only to find that it was boarded there were three metallic vertical rods that had been used to board it up. She could not escape through the window. She realised the footsteps had stopped at the door but there was no movement to open th
She stopped and watched as the door opened. It was like time had frozen as she watched the man she loved strut into the room followed by an equally handsome man. Their striking appearances commanded attention and changed the atmosphere in the room. They were both tall with broad shoulders, wearing black suits. Lucius’s jawline complimented his sharp features increasing the magnetic charm of his blue eyes. Every step he took was effortless and graceful.Emma glanced at the man walking beside Lucius. He was impressively tall and looked very athletic. Unlike Lucius, this man had long, wavy hair that cascaded down the sides of his face. “This is she?” the man said, approaching Emma. “You were right. She’s perfect.”Lucius stopped right in front of Emma who was yet to move because she didn’t know what to do. He went closer and pulled her into his arms. They remained like that for a minute. When he pulled away, the other man had gone to the table.Lucius looked into Emma’s eyes. “Why?”“Guy
A few minutes later, Emma was trudging through the silent forest with five strange men. She had pleaded countless times for them to reveal the person behind their operation but they refused. The other three men who had shot Axel and his counterparts had joined the two who had captured her and were chatting away about things related to their pack whose name she hadn’t been told. She didn’t dare run from the men because it was pointless. They would catch her within a minute. Besides, annoying them would not make things better for all those involved. When they came out of the forest, two black cars were waiting. Having given up on escape, Emma got into one. She could only hope she was not being taken to someone who hated her like Michelle. She sat in the backseat with one of the men and looked through the tinted glass as the car sped towards the city. The human city was bustling with activity, very different from most of the places she was used to. There was a lot of traffic, noise and c
