Aria's Pov

"Mate!" Ava called again in a louder voice.

My heart skipped a beat. "A- Ava are you sure?" I stuttered, not wanting to get my hopes up.

"Mate!" Ava said again happily, jumping excitedly in my mind.

"Are you sure about this?" I asked again. "Hope you're not doing this because I'm losing all hope of finding a mate?"

"Trust me Aria," Ava said. "He's here, I can sense him."

"Why can't I sense him?" I questioned.

"Cause your heart is finding it hard to accept," she told me. "Now let's go find out mate," she urged.

I sighed in defeat. "Where is he?" I asked, even though I couldn't sense him yet. Well, I just have to trust Ava on this.

"Just walk straight ahead, and climb the first stairs you come across on your right," Ava described.

"Stairs?" I asked in disbelief. "Why go up the stairs? All the unmated werewolves are down here."

"Quit complaining, Aria," Ava scolded me, with a hint of frustration in her voice. "Just trust me, will you?"

"Alright, alright," I said and did as Ava instructed.

As I took the first step to climb the stairs, that's when it hit me. An intoxicating woody spicy scent.

"I- Is that–?"

"Yes, girl!" Ava said frantically, not allowing me to finish my sentence.

"This is too good to be true," I muttered in disbelief.

"Well, it is true," Ava confirmed. "Now, go girl!"

With every step I took on the stairs, the scent became stronger. As I reached the top of the stairs, I ran my fingers through my hair with shaking hands.

"The moon goddess gave you a mate Aria," I mumbled under my breath, attempting to drown the rising tide of panic.

"Move, Aria," Ava said impatiently, as I stood on a spot.

My thoughts were a chaotic mess, as they tumbled over each other, with so many what if's. Could my mate be London? I've not really paid attention to his scent before, but I'm sure it's not a woody spicy scent. I would have known, with how intoxicating the scent I was perceiving right now.

Oh, my goddess! I facepalmed internally. Apart from London, every other pack member always treats me like I'm a worthless piece of garbage. What if my mate is one of those scumbags, would they see me differently now that I'm their mate? What if it's one of the guests?

"Jeez! Aria, would you move your legs!" Ava queried. "I'll take over if you won't move," Ava threatened.

I moved one step at a time with my heart pounding so hard that it blocked my ears. I only knew where to go because the scent grew stronger and more intoxicating with every step, which led to a room.

"London?" I said my voice barely above a whisper, as I set my eyes on those emerald eyes that sparkled and spoke of all things spring. The emerald colored eyes suddenly became sunny, which only indicates one thing, his wolf recognizes me as his mate.

"Ahh…o..ooh…Yes, baby!" The sound of moaning snapped me out of my reverie, and I got a better image of my surroundings.

Right there in front of me, was my mate fucking his girlfriend Elsa.

A great tremor overtook me, I sniffled as tears threatened to spill from my eyes.

Of course, who else would he have been doing this with? I was so stupid to think that having London as my mate would solve all my problems.

London ignored me and turned to fucking Elsa, spanking her on her butt.

The sounds of Ava whimpering at the sight shook me back to reality. I couldn't hold the heartbreak anymore, so I ran back towards the stairs, and a gut wrenching sob tore through my chest, as cold tears streamed down my cheeks. I wiped them with the back of my hands, but the tears still came pouring down anyway.

"Here, Aria," Mrs. Beatrice shoved a towel into my hands as I was running down the stairs. "Go clean up the mess made downstairs at the party."

I ignored her and kept walking down the stairs.

"Did you hear what I just said?" Mrs. Beatrice dragged me back by my shoulder.

"Y-yes, Mrs. Beatrice," I replied in a quivering voice, as I struggled to hold back the fresh tears threatening to fall.

As I arrived back downstairs, I bowed my head slightly to hide my teary eyes as I walked over to the table where the mess was made.

I sniffled and wiped a stray tear that rolled down my left cheek with the back of my hand as I began to clean the mess on the table.

I felt a hand pull me abruptly, and a head turning slap landed on my cheeks, causing me to stagger backward from the impact.

"How dare you barge into my room?!" London growled.

Tears of pain flowed faster than a heartbeat as I stared into his eyes which held nothing but raw hatred.

"I– You– We–,"

Pow! Another slap landed on my face, shutting me up before I could complete my statement.

"Shut the fuck up!" London growled. "I wasn't done talking!"

Everyone turned towards us as they began whispering amongst themselves.

My cheeks hurt from receiving two resounding slaps within seconds, but it was nothing compared to the hurt I felt deep in my soul. I thought one's mate was supposed to love them. But there's no atom of love in London's eyes. And he was always nice to me saving me from Elsa....was that all fake?

Or was he disappointed that I was his mate?

"Do you think I'll accept you as my mate just because the moon goddess destined it?" London asked, accompanied by a menacing laughter.

The whispering amongst the pack members increased, as they stared at us with eyes wide open.

"The mood goddess made a huge mistake this time," London declared. "Someone like you can never be my mate."

Hearing those words from London, my mate, the one who was supposed to love and cherish me throughout his entire existence, felt like my heart was being shredded into a million different pieces.

"Your Highness, I–"

"Just because I showed you a little kindness doesn't change the fact that you are nothing," he snarled. "It was all pity Aria, I felt nothing but pity, don't mistake that for anything else."

I couldn't utter a word but my tears spoke volumes, that I was falling apart.

"I'll make this quick and easy Aria," London continued. "We don't have to waste each other's time."

"No, please," I choked out pleadingly, as I knew what he meant.

"No?" London laughed irritatingly, as he looked deeply into my eyes…my soul. "I, London Fitzgerald–"

"No please, I beg of you," I got down on my knees, and pleaded with him with tear filled eyes. "I'll do anything, please your highness."

London's expression remained cold as ice.

"I, London Fitzgerald, future Alpha of Startling Pack, reject you…what's your surname again?" London stopped midway.

I shook my head vehemently. There's no way I'll answer that, and there's no way the rejection would be official if he doesn't say my full name.

Oh, moon goddess, don't let him remember, please. I prayed in my heart silently.

"Robinson," A voice said from the crowd. I can recognize that voice anytime, any day. It was the voice of Amanda.

"Thank you," London said and turned to look at me. "I, London Fitzgerald, future Alpha of Startling Pack, reject you, Aria Robinson, as my mate."

And that was it, London said the official rejection words.

I buried my head down, as the pain from the rejection and our bond severing tore through my heart. Ava howled in agony in my mind, and I couldn't even imagine what she was going through.

"Accept the rejection, Aria!" Elsa's sneer resonated in the hall, as she walked towards us, and slid her hands into London's arms.

"I–"

"No Aria, please," Ava said pleadingly. "It's just the alcohol talking," Ava was in denial. London wouldn't drink on such a big occasion, it could cost him his position as the next alpha. "I can smell the alcohol on him," Ava persisted. "He'll come back to his senses by morning and accept us."

"No Ava," I replied sadly. "He seemed determined about the rejection."

"Aria, please listen to me just once. I promise I'll–"

I shut the communication link between Ava and I and looked at London with a tear stained face.

"I,--," I took a deep breath. "I, Aria Robinson, accept your rejection of me as your mate."

I mumbled under my breath."People should learn to know their place," London said as he and Elsa walked hand in hand towards the stage. This time around, she tossed it far away, and the only way I could get it back was by getting up from bed, which I was clearly not ready for. There was no way he had just called me... his mate.I turned to the crowd behind me and felt my knees begin to shake as I saw that all eyes were now turned to him. I caught sight of Amanda whispering to her minions and the look she had on her face showed that she was much more surprised at the sudden turn of events than I was. I turned to Elsa and saw that she had the same look on her face too. I was about to turn to the Lycan king whose hold on my hand had now tightened to know if he was being serious when I saw London at a corner, glaring at us. He held in his hands a glass of wine and I watched it crack under his grip. He brought the damaged glass down on the table beside him and licked his lips, putting on a smile that I knew was nothing more than a facade before slowly striding towards where we stood. 'What is he doing?' I

"I was mated to Alpha London," I said with a small nod as I turned to Ryder. "But he rejected me as his mate so we are not together anymore." "Hmm," Ryder grunted as he brought his eyes to the ground. He kept his gaze there for some time, as if brooding over what I had said before raising his head in London's direction. "You heard what she said, Alpha London." "Yes, I did," London replied with a small chuckle as he brought his hands behind his back. I could see the dark look beneath the fake smile that he wore on his face as he slowly strode towards where I stood. He continued, "but Aria must know that I was only playing when I said so." Playing? The slap that he struck showed his intentions and it definite

London's POVThe snickers from the omegas behind me ate at me and the low chuckle the Alphas gave only tore my ego the more. I knew that I didn't love her, I never did, but I wasn't just going to let him take what belonged to me in the first place. It was only going to be seen by the other pack alphas as an insult. I knew that my statement of Aria not accepting my rejection was the only thing that could turn things in my favor but Elsa just had to open her mouth and speak. I clenched my fist as I saw the stupid omega throw a smile at me.I gritted my teeth as anger flooded me. She didn't just know that I had lost but she was mocking my defeat too. I pulled my bag close to my chest as my pace towards his car slowed down."You took longer than I expected," Alpha Ryder said as he raised one of his brow. I looked at her face through the rear view mirror and my heart softened as they landed on her frail body. They really did her badly back at her pack. 'Is that affection I see you having there, Ryder?' Otis said to me and I growled. 'It's not affection, Otis, and you know it,' I answered him as I turned my eyes from the rear view mirror and brought it down on the road in front of me. 'I only care for her as every normal person with a heart would. Do not mistake my kindheartedness for love and affection.' 'Okay?' Otis tsked. 'From my view though, that's not what I see. You do know that I cannot only see what you see but I can also read your mind. So, I know--' "Shut up," I said out loudly, my mind-linking slipping out of my lips. My voice boomed across the valley, echoing off the cliffs as I emerged from our hiding place, my daughter cradled safely in my arms. "You're fucking doomed." Hudson's expression twisted into a mix of surprise, anger and confusion as he saw me. The reality of what was happening then hit him as he saw my warrior wolves jumping out of the shadows and rushing out towards he and his guards. It took a lot of fighting and the loss of some of my warriors but we were finally able to bring down all of Hudson's wolves and also subdue him. As they chained him too, I walked over to him, holding my daughter close to my chest."Hudson," I said, my voice filled with disappointment as I stared at him. Desiree's POVI quickly collected the horse from Jason, ignoring the questions he was asking me. Quickly, I mounted the horse and whipped the reins, causing it to sprint out of the compound. I quickly turned my horse down the path that I knew led to the small shed Hudson had gone to. I kept on whipping my horse, not wanting to waste any time. I needed to get there fast if I really wanted my plans to work.It didn't take too long for me as I finally took notice of a familiar row of sunflower along the pathway I rode. It has been planted a year earlier by some servants as instructed by Hudson. It had started drizzling, but the ray of sunshine remained firm and colourful. I recalled the stores told to me when I was little that when such was happening, it meant the moon goddess was punishing a pack for sins that they had committed towards her. Desiree's POVMy heart raced as I rushed through the compound gate. I needed to inform Ryder about my findings.I quickly surveyed the surrounding path, and after seeing no one, I moved towards the palace. I had not notified anyone about me leaving that mansion and I knew if Hudson was to learn about that, he would be suspicious of me. I didn't want to drag any attention to me so I reduced my pace, walking stealthily into the mansion. It wasn't until I overheard a maidservants telling the other that Hudson had ridden to his shed in the woods that I finally relaxed. As I walked, I thought of what would happen once I told Ryder the good news I held for him. I wasn't too concerned about what he would do though. I was much more concerned about what Aria would do. She had promised me that she would pack and leave the moment her stupid child was found and that was what I expected from her. If she did, I'd finally have Ryder to myself. Upon arriving at the palace, I received the referenc

Aria and Ryder had arrived not up to an hour ago and Aria had retreated to her room to cry her eyes out. Ryder had decided to come to his study to think and luckily, I was waiting for him. His conversation though was not one I was expecting to be having with him. "Do you know who took her?" I asked, pretending to be concerned, even though deep down, I was filled with anger. "Was there any clue left behind by the wolves that may lead us to her?" "I... I don't know," Ryder admitted, frustration evident in his voice. He grunted and ran a hand through his hair as he shook his head. He looked down at the drink I had brought for him and I could see in his eyes that he wanted to take it. Ryder's POV We had long begun our journey in silence, the only sound filling the air being the sound of our horse's hooves trotting softly against grass and the racket our carriage wheels made as it made it's way through the forest. The children too added to the list as they played and laughed loudly. Apart from all these, the carriage seemed silent. My gaze turned to Aria, a sense of guilt filling up within me as I stared at her. She had turned to the window and was staring at the passing trees. It was obvious that her mind was somewhere else and I wondered what it was that she was thinking about. Was it me? Was she having regrets?I opened my mouth to speak but nothing came out. I just didn't know what to say. Taking in a deep breath, I turned from her and began tapping my feet on the floor restlessly, trying my best to muster my courage."What is it?"
