GIA O'LEARY
Keegan tried to persuade Alpha Levi into reevaluating his options but whatever this was about, Levi had already made up his mind.
Nothing in Alpha Levi's perceptible mild exterior suggested he recognized me from the previous night. Wth the embroidered loose gown flowing to my ankles and hair covered with the shawl, it was hard to tell I was the same girl twirling around the pole last night.
But what were those twinkles at the corners of his eyes whenever they regarded me?
"What are you waiting for?" Keegan chided me, his displeasure plain in his manner and tone.
I left the chair, towards Levi's outstretched hand. But chose to ignore his hand, I couldn't bear to know what they felt like another time. I couldn't risk his touch exposing me before the scrutinizing gazes of these men.
I went straight ahead towards the inner room where the final rituals were to take place.
Amusement seemed to twitch at the corners of his sensuous lips, his sweet patchouli tempting, almost having me twirling around to wrap him in a headless kiss.
"Listen carefully because I know how clumsy you can get," Keegan's voice cut through my reverie, barking instructions at me.
Alpha Levi's wolf is cursed and until this curse is uplifted then his wolf is bound to deteriorate in strength by the day. It seemed like it was starting to.
This ritual was aimed at blessing our Alpha's wolf and reviving his strength. But not to uplift the curse. Uplifting the curse came with a lot more rituals. Keegan preached on, unknown to him, his words fell on deaf ears, my heart and mind were bent on sealing my lips once more with this attractive man beside me.
"To begin, I would need you to swear on the goddess that you're indeed a holy..."
"That wouldn't be necessary," Levi disrupted Keegan's suggestion that I took the oath of purity. "Show the girl what she has to do then she gets the fuck to it. We don't have all night, Keegan."
My heart soared when he came to my rescue. I could've been exposed. The goddess indeed had my back.
My eyes fused with his, the gratitude in my gaze almost giving me away.
I poured the tepid water into the silver bowl for the revival rituals and handed the bowl to Levi. Our fingers lightly grazed at the bottom of the bowl. A short gasp escaped my lips.
The touch sent electrifying signals through every nerve in me, feathering an unwelcome chill down my spine and instantly, I withdrew my hand causing the bowl to tip forward spilling the content on Levi.
"You clumsy one!" Keegan roared exasperatedly.
"I'm so sorry, I didn't mean that!" I spluttered instinctively reaching over to swat the water from his broad and rigid chest.
I paused in my tracks, realized what I was about to do and pulled back. My entire body already kindled with heat, to touch him was to risk it all.
To risk everyone seeing I desired a man.
His inscrutable gaze searched mine as I shifted from him as though from hot coal. If he caught the longing in my eyes then nothing in his features suggested so.
His imperturbability was a clear sign he didn't recognize me as the girl he'd kissed last night. How possible was that?
In no time the final rituals were done and the evening drew to an end. Keegan gathered us, ready to leave.
I was ready to leave this nightmare behind. Come the time already! I mentally groaned.
"I want to keep this maiden as my helpmate and Luna." Alpha Levi declared.
Gasps filled the hall. I gulped. Blinked. Unsure if I heard right.
My ashen face regarded him, nothing in his gaze to suggest a mischief but I wasn't fooled. He wanted to single me out. And punish me?
"Please." I begged with frantically thrashing heart.
Levi reached out to take my hand, considering the last time our hands touched, I flinched from him and moved to his side instead.
Keegan, although disappointed, bowed, "I'll keep as close to the mansion as possible in case you need me at any point."
"You're a very loyal priest. I'll be sure to reward you."
"Taking one of my daughters as your Luna is enough reward."
But his hardened gaze stated otherwise.
As the alpha's Butler led me to the main wing of his mansion I grew unsure if to confront Levi on his real intention of wanting me as his Luna.
Chances of this alpha not recognizing me from the strip club were still there and it restrained me from an open confrontation. I couldn't recklessly let out my secrets.
Escaping became my best option. If I could leave this mansion by midnight, creep into my room to get some money and the beaten up truck then my safety was guaranteed.
Alpha Levi was acting this way simply because he wasn't quite sure of the punishment to dish out just yet. In no time, his real intentions for me would be put forth.
I paced the room the butler offered me to stay in. I wouldn't get to meet Levi until the next morning which made it easier to escape. He wouldn't notice I was gone until the next day.
I waited until it was a few minutes past midnight. I crept out of the room into the long and endless-seeming pearly hallway unsure of which direction to go.
I settled for the right and my kudos ended in the stairway. I descended the stairs lightly as a feather.
From there I found the vast living room and the closed front double-doors. Locked.
The window was my next option. But breaking out of the alpha's home was a crime punishable by death. Well, all my crimes were punishable by death—taking no chances was the true act of a coward.
I pulled the expansive window open, and as the fresh breeze fanned my face, a surge of exhilaration washed over me. I retrieved my shawl from my head and wrapped it securely around my waist, then lifted the hem of my dress and readied myself to climb out.
Just as I crossed the window’s threshold and prepared to leap into the night, a strong hand yanked me back, holding me suspended in mid-air. I dangled there, suspended in space.
“What the fuck are you doing?”
The very familiar and commanding voice made me freeze, my heart pounding as I met the burning, commanding gaze of Alpha Levi.
LEVI EDELMAN I had thought it was a burglar at first, but when she retrieved the shawl from her hair I recognized it immediately. What the hell was she thinking, trying to jump off the window at this time of the night? She was probably drunk; was the thought I harbored in my mind when I reached forth my hand to stop her. But the pair of frantic eyes staring back at me was nothing close to drunkenness.Annoyance sipping into me at the unnecessary chaotic disorder her crazy action had sparked in me, I yanked her off the window. She gasped, managing to shield her weight with a guide. Unfortunately, her elbow got on the hard floor and left a whimper off her lips. I regretted my action immediately. I didn't mean to hurt her. Just what in the hell was she about to do just now?I bent to her level. Like a repelling force of magnetic opposition, she swatted over with the hurting elbow in her palm. I didn't derive pleasure from her constant refuting, but I wouldn't say it disturbed me ei
GIA O'LEARYI froze. Blanked. Busted. Forgetting every previous thought I had in my head. He cheesed out with a smirk. A smirk that suggested he found delight in my incapacitated mode.“W-what?’’ I stuttered, unsure how to place his outburst yet. He really did recognize me? It amazed me at how surprising this profound realization caught me. I undoubtedly suspected ninety-five percent out of a hundred possibilities that he recognized me but it had been better staying in just an assumption. Coming to the scary face of reality that indeed, he recognized me as the licentious stripper he had involved in a quick-and-dirty kiss was unnerving. “Holy maidens was it?’’ He further implied. He didn't need a scoff at the end to express his sarcasm. I lost my stance. Shame draping over me like a flowing garment. I crashed to my knees, tugging his pants, refusing to meet his condescending eyes. “You can't tell anyone about that. I promise I can explain. It's not as bad as you may think.’’ I spr
GIA O'LEARY The necessary rites were immediately brought into action. I was made to sit on the floor in the Hindi praying position, except that the exercise didn't require me to glue my palms against each other. Keegan pranced around me, reading out the conjugation mantras with the guests chanting the backup phrases rather too enthusiastically each time Keegan left a half statement. I bit my lips underneath my veil, hoping this time went by fast without involving any revelation sessions since the goddess seemed to completely be on my side. Finally, I was made to take the Luna’s oath of indebtedness and read my vows to Alpha Levi. My lips trembled with every word I spelled out and made it almost impossible to completely make out my sentences. “Will you be audible?’’ Keegan jibed me, his deadly eyes forcing a flinch from me. It was too much to handle. Though I commanded quite an audience at the club, it was always during nighttime and I usually had a mask that made no one recogniz
GIA O'LEARYMy heart thrashed against my chest as he flung me roughly to the side, tears blinding my vision as I forced my trembling lips to speak. The goddess had probably had enough of my deceit and revealed my true exhibitions to him. This was the destructive end of my fate.“I'm sorry, father.’’ I sobbed.‘‘Do you have that evil mark covered up?’’ He inquired, taking me aback for a moment.‘‘H-huh?’’“You clumsy little brat!’’ He cursed, irritated by the mere sig
LEVI EDELMAN I looked up from my phone, swatting a glance into the rearview side mirror for any sign of her, growing impatient. I cursed underneath my breath, pushed the door open, and stepped out of the car when I saw her approaching. She halted immediately, her gaze trailed at me, acknowledging my figure. She contemplated in her head on if to proceed or retract. ‘‘What are you waiting for?’’ I threw at her, my impatience dissipating momentarily at the sight of her. She lowered her gaze from mine, taking in her bottom lips as she resumed her strides, faster, to take the other side of the car. An awkward silence shook the air after the sound of the revving engines subsided. I chose to center my attention on the road and the clothes store we were driving to.“Could you roll down the window a bit please?’’ She spoke, appealing enough.I stared briefly at her, while she strictly avoided making contact. I sighed quietly, reached for the control, and did as she requested. “Have you h
GIA O'LEARYHis eyes regarded mind ridiculously. My question was somewhat puzzling and it got him puzzled.“Why will you do that for me?’’ I asked again, hoping to exclude the required clarity until my intentions hit the balance.“I don't get it. You don't want me to?’’ He was unsure if I was telling him not to help me or not.“I'm asking why you are bent on keeping me even if you're completely aware of me. What I am.’’ I surprisingly maintained contact with his eyes. Something I struggled the whole of two days with, I was currently doing it effortlessly.
GIA O'LEARY I blinked. Blanked and stunned by the lady's unexpected sudden outburst. ‘‘You haven't changed one bit, have you?’’ Alpha Levi spat irritatedly. “I've missed you.’’ She blurted out. I was forced to move a bit aside from Alpha Levi's towering frame which obstructed my view of the scene. The lady's gaze adverted to me instantly. “W-who is she and what are you doing here…with her?’’Without responding, Alpha Levi snatched my wrist. I watched the lady's gaze swat to his grip with something like horror flashing in her eyes. “Did you get all you need?’’ Alpha Levi asked, his eyes never leaving the lady. I was lost in the middle of the drama. Just what in the hell was going on right now?“Y-yes,’’ I answered partly absentmindedly. “Then let's leave.’’ Without waiting for my response, he turned and pulled me out with him.I almost stumbled on my dress while trying to catch up with his speed. The lady's voice calling after him didn't help matters either. Alpha Levi sorted t
GIA O'LEARYI took slow calculated steps behind Redrine, my heart pulsating like it would rip off my chest soon.I couldn't contain the scary image of Alpha Levi's frame over me.What more constituted a honeymoon if not that? Sex. Never did I dream of having my first sex so soon, especially not with a man I barely got to know three days ago.“Greetings, Alpha.’’ Redrines' voice cut into my thoughts. Have we gotten to the dining area already yet?My heart stroked as I lifted my gaze to meet Alpha Levi seated at the head of the small table for four occupants.“I'll tak
GIA O'LEARY I was pacing the length of my room, my fists clenched, my jaw tight, the heat in my chest refusing to cool down, not even for a bit minutes. I wasn’t angry at Levi. Not really, it was Alan. How dare he? How dare he talk to me like that in front of everyone? How dare he talk to me like I was the one causing trouble?I let out a frustrated breath and threw the nearest pillow at the wall. It hit with a soft thud and dropped to the floor. The sound of it was followed by a gentle knock on the door. “Come in.” My voice was barely above a whisper. The door creaked open, and Maddison walked in like she owned the room, closing the door behind her as if that would trap me inside with her nonsense.“Not now,” I said sharply. “I’m not in the mood.”She didn’t move. She just stood with her arms folded, eyes fixed on me.“I won’t take long,” she said. “I just want to ask you something.”“Maddison, I said not now.” I rolled my eyes.“Respect yourself when I’m being respectful,” she
ALAN I didn’t understand it either. The ring… I saw Maddison wearing it just yesterday. It was on her finger the whole time. I remember because she kept fidgeting with it while we were talking. So how the hell did it end up inside the storeroom?I stood there for a moment, stunned. The pieces weren’t adding up. My heart was still pounding from everything. And Maddison? I turned slowly to her, already seeing the fire in her eyes.“You planned this?” she yelled, her voice shaking. “Did you plant it there? Did you do this to me on purpose?!”“What? No!” I said quickly, my hands up. “Maddison, I swear….I have no idea how that ring got there.”She was breathing hard now, her chest rising and falling like she was about to explode. “Don’t lie to me! Maybe this is your way of finally getting rid of me!”“For Goddess’ sake, listen to yourself….” “I am listening!” she shouted. “And everything sounds like a trap!”Her voice was too loud. Loud enough for anyone outside to hear.“Shut up,” I
MADDISONRedrine looked like she’d seen a ghost immediately she stepped inside. She hesitated before moving closer, like she was being dragged forward by some invisible force. She stood in the middle of the room, her eyes wide, hands clutched together. Her gaze flicked from Mia to Levi… then to me. And when her eyes finally met mine, I knew she was scared. Good. She should be. Because I was scared too.“Redrine,” Levi said, holding up the ring. His voice wasn’t loud, but it was clear enough to grasp. “Have you ever seen this ring?” He questioned. Redrine shook her head quickly, like her life depended on it. “No, Alpha. I’ve never seen it before.”If Redrine hadn’t seen the ring, then who could’ve put it in the Storeroom? I know for sure I wasn’t the one. I didn’t go to the storeroom with the ring. Levi’s face darkened. He took one step closer to her and lowered his voice, but somehow made it feel even colder. “If you’re lying to me, Redrine… I will not hesitate to kill you. Is th
GIA O'LEARY“Why are you asking such a question? I just told you I clearly don’t know what you’re talking about!” Maddison denies again. “I’m asking because this ring… It’s yours?” Levi’s voice was calm, but I could feel the tension in his shoulders. He was trying not to jump to conclusions, but even he looked like he already had one.Maddison didn’t answer. She just stared at the ring in his hand, frozen like she couldn’t believe what she was seeing.I stepped forward. “Don’t waste your breath, Levi,” I snapped, not even bothering to hide the heat in my voice. “She’s the one who stole the herbs. That ring is proof.”“Gia, calm down. Let her speak.” He frowned at me, his voice soft but firm. I clenched my fists at my sides, trying to breathe through the anger rising in my chest. Maddison had played us all for fools. I knew it in my gut. She stood there, pretending like she didn’t understand anything. Pretending like the ring wasn’t hers.“Let me see the ring clearly,” Maddison final
Gia O'LEARY My eyes stayed on Maddison as Mia spoke, and I watched the change in Maddison’s face. She was shocked, I could see it clearly in her eyes, and that shock snapped something in me.“Don’t utter rubbish, Mia,” Maddison snapped, her voice sharper than it had been before. Her words felt like a slap, but Mia didn’t look scared of her, though her hands were trembling just a little, and she met Maddison’s glare head-on.“I’ve seen the ring on your finger multiple times, Lady Maddison,” Mia said. Her voice wasn’t loud, but I’m sure everyone could hear her. “I know it’s yours, that’s why I brought it for you in case you’re looking for it.” “No!” Maddison replied sharply. “I’m not looking for any rings. Have a problem with that?” Maddison raised an eyebrow for some seconds then turned back to leave, but Mia was fast enough to halt her in a spot by her word. “I think it's your favorite ring since you wore it more than four times in a week.” My heart skipped, and I found myself
LEVI EDELMAN“You don’t have to look at me like that,” I muttered, not looking up. My fingers drummed lightly on the edge of the plate in front of me.“I wasn’t.” Alan blinked, caught.“You were,” I said quietly. I finally looked at him. “I’m fine, alright? You don’t need to worry about me.”He held my gaze for a second longer than I expected, then he nodded, though I knew he didn’t believe me. And I couldn’t blame him.I shifted my eyes toward Gia. Her hand moved slowly with the fork, poking at the vegetables on her plate, barely eating. Her hair was still damp from earlier. I remembered the way the water ran down her skin. The way she avoided my eyes when I held her in the shower. Now, she wore my shirt so big it looked like a gown on her, and she looked smaller than usual. She looks tired too. In a way that made me feel guilty.I heard a foot step turning back to see Maddison striding it. What was I thinking before? She never plays with her stomach. “I see you all couldn’t wait fo
LEVI EDELMAN I held Gia in my arms, her body still warm against mine, her breath coming out in soft gasps. I could feel her heart beating fast, and I couldn’t help but pull her closer. My hand gently traced her skin as I whispered, “Are you sore?”She didn’t answer right away. She looked down, her cheeks flushed, and I could feel the hesitation in her body. She was too shy to speak, and I didn’t want to push her. Instead, I just tightened my hold on her. After a second, I gently scooped her up and carried her into the bathroom. I could tell she was feeling unsure, but I didn’t want her to worry. “We’ll take a shower,” I said quietly. “You don’t have to be shy.”“I don’t want to bathe with you…” Her voice was small.I stopped, holding her for a second, studying her face. “There’s nothing to be shy about,” I assured her. “It’s just us.”I could see the doubt in her eyes, but she didn’t argue. She trusted me. That was all I needed. I turned on the shower, letting the cold water run as
LEVI EDELMAN “Why did you keep ignoring me…” I whispered, my gaze flicking to her, lingering. “When you’re this worried about me?”I knew the moment she stepped inside, I had just kept quiet purposely. I heard every one of her words, and I couldn’t help but flutter my eyes, hurt by the fact that she kept ignoring me, but cried when she saw me sick. Her face was pale, her eyes wet and swollen, strands of hair sticking to her face from the sweat and tears. My gaze dropped, and the sight of her soaked-through blouse clinging to her skin, outlining every curve, sent a sharp ache through me.Her bra was visible through the thin fabric, the soft curve of her breasts rising and falling with every desperate breath she took. My throat tightened, not from pain, but from the raw, quiet need building inside me.I tilted my head slightly, my voice low and hoarse but steady. “Did you come in here looking like this on purpose?”She flinched, her cheeks flushing instantly, and she shook her head. “
GIA O'LEARY My hands lingered at the back of my bra, the hooks stubborn against my fingers. I paused, biting lightly on my lip, my thoughts still tangled up in everything that had happened today. My chest felt heavy. I was still trying to undress when the door burst open so fast it slammed against the wall. I jumped, pulling the fabric against my chest, startled by the sudden sound.Maddison stood at the door, the rage in her eyes shooting forward to me. She clenched her teeth as if she were trying to hold back his anger. “What did you do to him?” Was the only word she uttered, her eyes darting across the room. “What did you mean?” I raised an eyebrow clearly confused about his statements. “It’s your fault!” She yelled. “It’s because of you. Because of your incompetence… his condition got this bad.”My heart stopped and my body went rigid. I stared at her, her words repeating over and over in my head.“What do you mean?” My voice came out low, almost broken. “Maddison, what are
