CHAPTER EIGHTY SEVEN

ELIZABETH:

As I walked into the cafeteria after my math class, I could hear the hum of chatter and the clatter of trays against tables. My stomach grumbled, reminding me that I hadn’t eaten since breakfast, and I quickened my pace toward the table where my friends were already gathered.

The smell of food wafted through the air, but I was more focused on reaching my group. Alex waved at me from across the room, a grin on her face as she gestured for me to hurry up. I smiled back, weaving through the crowd with my tray in hand.

My mind was already in the conversation I knew was waiting for me. We’d all been planning a surprise birthday party for Alex that would hold tonight.

As I neared the table, something interrupted my thoughts. A figure stepped in front of me, cutting off my path.
