Chapter five

Aria's Pov

I stood up abruptly, knocking my chair back with a loud thud. All eyes turned to me, scanning me with quizzical expressions.

My heart was pounding so hard against my chest that I thought it would burst out at any moment. My birthday was supposed to be a day of celebration, happiness, and joy.

But it had turned into a mess, thanks to Ethan.

"Aria, what's wrong?' Orion asked as I turned swiftly from him.

"Like you care."

I ran out of the hall. I couldn't bear to be in that suffocating atmosphere for a second longer. Tears were blinding my eyes, making it hard for me to see where I was going.

But I didn't care. All I wanted was to escape, to get away from everything and everyone.

As I burst out into the cool night air, I felt a wave of pure pain wash over me. How could Ethan do that to me? How could he ruin my birthday like this? I trusted him and loved him with all my heart and yet, he had betrayed me, shattering my world into a million pieces.

Was Olivia his mate all this while? What was going on?

These thoughts kept running in my head as I shuddered in fear.

I stumbled towards the gate, my head pounding and my vision blurry.

Suddenly, the security men stopped me and began interrogating me.

"Please can we get your ID?"

"What ID? Didn't you see I came with someone for a business meeting? What do you want from me?"

"Miss, we need to check your ID and make sure you have permission to exit. Please cooperate with us."

"I don't have time for this, just let me through!"

"We have a protocol to follow. We need to verify your identity and check your belongings before allowing you to exit."

"Why do you keep asking me the same questions? I already told you, I don't have it, I came with a person and it was given to him, not me. Is that how you act toward your guests? I'm going to rate this a star."

I didn't have the energy to answer them, and their questions only made my frustration grow. Before I knew it, I had become rude and forceful,

"What's going on?" A man who was attracted by the scandal asked.

"Are you blind? Can't you see I want to leave?"

"We're sorry miss." He apologised as I huffed.

"What's going on?" He questioned directing his gaze to the security guards.

"She was about leaving, we asked for her ID but she kept yelling she came with someone.

"And who's that?"

"Orion," I responded.

"I'm his mate." I decided to add as fear shimmered in their eyes.

"Are you Aria? Oh…" he said, his eyes scanning my uniform, like that was my signature.

"We apologise for the embarrassment, we needed to make sure you didn't harm a person."

"It's okay." I could feel their eyes on me as I struggled out, my legs unsteady beneath me while I walked away, I couldn't help but wonder why I had acted so impulsively.

I stumbled blindly across the street, not caring if I got hit by a car or not. It didn't matter. Nothing mattered anymore.

My heart felt like it had been ripped out of my chest, leaving a gaping hole in its place.

I collapsed onto the cold pavement of a house, hugging my knees to my chest as I cried my heart out.

The pain was so intense that it felt physical like a knife had been plunged into my chest and twisted mercilessly.

How could Ethan do this to me? How could he hurt me so much?

"Hello." A voice suddenly called to me as I turned to see the guy from earlier, the one who probably had a crush on me.

I immediately cleaned my eyes and gave a bright smile.

"Are you alright?"

"What's wrong?' he asked with so much care, holding my shoulders while I shuddered.

"Are you fine?"

I don't know why, but I couldn't bear to look him in the eyes and my wolf Eva was surprisingly quiet.

"Hey, look at me." Raising my cheek, he said.

"Are you good? Who hurt you?" I let out a small smile.

"I'm good."

"Okay, why did you leave the meeting?" He asked removing a strand of hair from my face.

"I felt out, my uniform." I lied as he gave me a small smile.

"Why will you wear a uniform to a business meeting? Did you guys meet for the first time today?"

"No, no," I replied immediately.

"We've known each other for a while now."

"Okay…" he said like he wasn't buying it.

He looked at me and I swear, I could see a burning desire in him.

"Are you okay?" I said, snapping him out of his fantasy.

"Yeah. Just lost in your beauty." He praised as a blush crept up my cheek.

"Let's go grab a drink." I couldn't say no to this beautiful stranger so I nodded.

He took me back to the hotel and we sat by the pool.

"I'm Colton."

"Alpha Colton." He corrected.

"Alpha?"

"Yeah, you ought to know since you're Orion's mate."

"I am his brother, twin brother." He corrected.

"Oh…hehehe," I said, giving a small laugh.

"Nice meeting you, don't mind my manners."

"You know Orion has always filled my ears with stories about you. How sweet you are and all that." I said as he just shook his head.

"That's not my brother. We aren't really on good terms, so I doubt he will be telling stories about me to his mate."

"Oh…"

"Do you even know that he is an Alpha? The Alpha of Crescent Wood." He asked as I spat the crown royal whiskey from my mouth.

"What!" This is treason, acting as a mate to the powerful Alpha like Orion? I will be killed if discovered.

No wonder he seems so evil. Gosh, at least he didn't kill him for damaging his car. Alpha Orion isn't someone to play with and I had fallen into his trap.

"Come to think of it? You're taking too much of that." He said with a soft smile, taking the bottle from me.

I couldn't place it, but there was something about Colton and I was tempted to just kiss him.

"Hey!" He said, snapping his fingers.

"I know I'm cute, but stop drooling, you have a mate." He said, making me burst into laughter.

"So Orion is really the Alpha of this pack and you're the Alpha Colton of the second most powerful pack?" Gosh, is this a dream?

"Yes. Earlier, you said it's been a while you met your mate, so why don't you know all this as this future Luna of the pack." He probed as I thought of a lie to give. I was already feeling tipsy but I wouldn't stop drinking.

"Well, the truth is that…." I tried, deciding to tell him the truth when Orion marched towards us fuming.

"What are you doing with her?" He asked as I wondered why he cares so much now.

"Why do you ask?" Colton asked as I looked on trying to keep my eyes open.

What is going on now? I just had my heart broken by my Alpha and two powerful twin Alpha's are about fighting over me? Was this a dream?

"She's my mate so stay clear."' Orion yelled, pulling my hand.

"You lie Orion, you do." Colton yelled, pulling me by my left hand.

My head began to spin as the argument escalated.

The intensity of their voices, coupled with the weight of the situation, overwhelmed me.

I tried to steady myself, but my vision blurred, and a wave of dizziness washed over me. The world around me seemed to spin faster and faster.

"Stop it….." the words barely escaped my lips before the darkness swallowed me whole. I felt my body give way, and I collapsed to the ground, unconsciousness consuming me like a relentless tide.
