Xeros POV
I stopped in my tracks as I took a moment to survey the open space in the forest. I had lost track of Ryan, the traitor who belonged to the enemy’s pack. He had come into my pack pretending to be an ally but thank goodness for my experience and expertise, I was able to see beneath his covering.
I had been hot on his trail for the past hour and just when I was about to catch up to him, he sped up and took a turn. It was at that moment I lost him. I had my guard up, holding my weapons closely while I surveyed the space. He had to be around here. There was nowhere else he could go, right in front of me was a cliff and it would be a stupid decision to jump down that cliff.
He just had to be somewhere around.
I heard a rustle behind me and prepared my weapon for an attack. I surveyed my surroundings once again but there was no one in sight. After a few minutes, I heard the rustling sound again. I backed the cliff and remained at high alert.
“I know you are here! Show yourself!” I ordered boldly, moving closer, following the rustling sound. Soon, a figure came out of the forest and lunged at me, knocking my sword out of my grip.
I recognized him to be a member of the enemy’s pack but not the traitor I was after, which meant there were more of them in this forest. I recognized it to be a trap by them to lure me into the forest.
Another person came from the forest and another and soon enough I was surrounded by members of the enemy’s pack.
They closed in on me, and I knew I had to think of a way to escape. I swiftly picked up my sword and coupled with some martial art, I was able to escape from the circle they formed around me. I ran towards the edge of the cliff and tried to maneuver my way to the other side of the forest.
Just when I thought I had succeeded in escaping, I felt a sharp pain on my rib and I looked down and saw a silver dagger sticking out from my rib, it was poisoned with wolfsbane. In a few seconds, I felt the effect of the wolfsbane and coupled with the pain, I lost my balance and fell off the cliff.
I groaned as I landed with a thud.
*************
I felt her before I saw her, I knew it had to be her. My mate, the one I had been waiting for. My eyelids fluttered open and I caught sight of the blood seeping out of her shoulder, staining her shirt a bright shade of red.
I couldn’t help but chuckle when I saw the expression on her face. She was marveled by my handsomeness and she didn’t even try to hide it, “if we met in other conditions, I would have advised you to take a picture as it would last longer” I said, then groaned as I felt the pain coarse through me again.
She gasped and her eyes met mine, “Nice to meet you too. You really need to take care of yourself” she said calmly, then rose up and turned to leave. I was taken aback by the way she was acting.
She stopped in her tracks and turned to face him, “I am Aria. I’m a doctor and I work at a nearby university hospital” she introduced herself.
She sounded so confident, that I found it difficult doubting the authenticity of her words. But what could a doctor be doing in this part of the town, especially at this time.
“I’m Xeros” I said.
“You wouldn’t mind if I took a look at your injury, would you?” She asked me.
“I won't,” I assured her. I also wanted her to take a look at it. Anything to make her stay longer.
She walked towards me and crouched in front of me then examined the bleeding on the spot where she earlier pulled out the dagger from. She made sure I was comfortable throughout the examination and kept me from falling asleep.
“We need to get the contaminated blood out of you” she said, returning her gaze to me.
“Then do that” I said, giving her the go ahead.
“I must warn, it is going to be a painful process”
“Painful?” I asked, as if I wasn’t already going through enough pain.
“Let me explain the process, I’m going to get a sharp piece of branch and make the cut deeper to aid more blood loss. This would help in flushing out the contaminated blood”
I nodded, it made more sense with her explanation. “Alright. I have no problem with that”
“Yes, so I would quickly get that” she said, still fixing her attention on the injury.
From the side of my eye I spotted a shining blade positioned in front of Aria’s neck, I looked up and spotted my brother, Alexander, hovering above me.
Chapter fourAria’s povI felt the cold blade against my neck before I saw it. My eyes widened in fear and I remained as still as I could before tilting my head to stare at my attacker. I was immediately drawn in by the intensity of his gaze and the fact that he had a striking resemblance to the injured man laying in front of me. Once again, upon setting my eyes upon him, I felt the urge to be closer to him. And he had the unmistakable scent that was unique to one’s destined mate. The sword was still placed close to my neck as a third figure emerged from the forest. My wolf howled mate, all three of them were my mate! And once again, I felt drawn to him. He also had a striking resemblance to the first two guys. I couldn’t wrap my head around the fact that all three of them were my mates! It was all surprising to me because it was unusual for a person to have three mates. He walked closer and stood beside the man who had his sword placed directly in front of my neck. “Enough!” Xer
Xeros Pov I didn’t take my eyes off Aria throughout the entire journey back to the pack house. Upon our arrival at my pack house, I was quickly led to my private room and made to lay down on the bed. I instructed Aria to wait with my brothers. A few minutes later, a man walked in, “Hello Xeros, I am the doctor that has been assigned to monitor your healing process” “From what I can see, your wolf is healing really slowly and we need to do something urgently so as to save its life,” the doctor explained. “I would like you to give me all the details, from when the injury occurred till this very stage” I groaned, I couldn’t see myself explaining the whole thing to him again. It made no sense. “Leave.” I said firmly. “What do you mean by that? You require urgent attention” the doctor insisted.“Leave and tell them I will only get treated by Aria” I instructed the doctor and I watched his face fill with unease before stepping out of the room. Alexander came in a few minutes Later,
Aria’s povI was shocked when I heard the question Xeros threw at me upon returning to his room. I suddenly began feeling self conscious because I felt Xeros would believe their words and start seeing me as a criminal and that wasn’t something I wanted.I walked towards his bedside and saw that the blood bag was empty. So, I disconnected the IV and threw the used equipment into the trash can. “You would need a few more weeks of treatment and thorough observation” I said, deliberately ignoring the question he asked earlier. I didn’t see the need to wait here any longer. I needed to leave if I was beginning to look like a criminal. “You would need the help of a professional. I have tried my best, I think it is best you get a doctor with more experience” I said. “What do you mean by that?” Xeros asked with raised brows. “You have already done a great job at speeding up the healing process. You need to finish what you have started” he said. “I’m afraid I can't,” I said, shaking my he
Aria’s POV‘I’m in t-trouble,’ I could see the fear in the eyes of my twin sister as she ran into my room and crouched down beside me.I had to drop the puzzle I was deeply engrossed in, giving her my full attention. ‘What’s wrong?’ I asked. ‘He is coming. I’m so scared. I didn’t mean for it to happen’ she let out the statements in short breaths and I needed no soothsayer to tell me that she was referring to my uncle. I placed my hands on her shoulder, ‘don’t worry, you’ll be fine’ ‘I won’t’ I watched her lips tremble in fear as she let out those words. And almost immediately we were startled by a loud sound as the door to my room was flung open. My uncle stormed towards me and grabbed me roughly by my arm, my heart threatened to burst out of my chest as his fingers pressed against my skin, turning it reddish. He pulled me up harshly and dragged me towards the doorway. He then stopped and turned to my twin sister, ‘you! Wait here till we return. Take a step outside this room and y
Aria’s POV I was taken out of the small prison after what felt like eternity and led to the council room. Where I knew my case would be judged and then appropriate punishment issued. A punishment I knew I didn't deserve because I had just found my mate and I believed my reaction was normal. The council room included a small group of pack members including Lucas and my sister, who threw me a look of disgust and it hurt me deeply because she was the reason I suffered and was exiled for five years. Now, All I wanted was to get the protection from my mate but I was arrested because of that.I stood in the corner of the room while I waited for their verdict. “You have been brought here for laying your hands on the alpha’s son and making a false declaration.” The council judge read out. “It isn’t false. I felt the… connection” I said in a bid to defend myself and darted my eyes to Lucas for a few seconds. “You still have the audacity to speak” “Just keep shut and face your punishmen
