I sprint through the island’s undergrowth, my heartbeat thudding in my ears, drowning out the sounds of nature around me. Rune and Malachi, both unspoken rocks in my life, match my pace effortlessly. We share a common destination, a voice that called us all through the mind link.

We were on the private jet coming back home when we heard it; Cassian’s voice calling to us to let us know he’s okay, that he’s waiting for us. I couldn’t sit still afterward, I paced the floor and drove Cassian and Rune mad.

We burst through the hospital wing doors, and there he is—Cassian. Sitting on a bed, battle-weary but whole. I suck in a breath when I see him; that smile on his face has me bursting into tears.

His eyes meet mine, and for that moment, everything else fades away. There’s a pull, a magnetic force that draws me to him until I’m at his bedside, wrapping my arms around him in a hug that speaks more eloquently than any words ever could. He holds me close, his embrace
