“Simon.”
Looking around the old telephone booth, Lucas confirmed that he indeed lost the police tagging him. on the streets, there was no one but him as the night reached 2 before dawn.
“Lucas! Where are you?! Are you able to lose them?” his friend’s panicking voice were evident that made Lucas sneer.
“It will be the police calling you if I was caught by them, isn’t it?”
Though he made a point, his sarcasm made Simon on the other line frown.
“I shouldn’t have answered your call if you were to be this naughty again, Mr. Lucas Levin.”
“But you still did, Sim.” A familiar silence filled the air between them as Lucas made his mind up to ask that question. And Simon already knew what he wanted to ask.
“Your father called.”
Lucas didn’t reply.
“I don’t know how he knew it but you know it really is impossible to hide this from him. especially when this is much bigger than the troubles you caused before. He said he wanted you come home. He will help you get out of this.”
“And?” Lucas snapped. His fingers clawing at the telephone. He heard something behind him, making him alert. But when he turned around, it was just few drunk men walking passed the streets. “And after he helped me, what will he do? cage me, force to tame me and take away my freedom? You know I will never live a life like that, Sim.”
“I know but what else can we do? you have no other option. You can’t just run and hide forever! I thought I could find some evidence to prove you didn’t kill that woman. But I was mistaken. Who ever framed you for that made sure that you have no way out.”
Simon heaved a deep sigh after nagging like an old mom. He wanted to keep his cool but his voice just keeps raising and raising.
“Lucas. I think one of the people you messed up with did this. but they were just too many. I don’t know who exactly made a move against you.”
Lucas pursed his lips, hearing Simon’s hopelessness. Looked like even his trouble-savior was out of ideas anymore.
“Sim. Let me ask you a question.”
The silence indicated his answer.
“How are you so sure I was innocent? Remember when we were 11? When I was at the summer cabin…”
Simon held his breath. How could he ever forget that moment? That moment when Lucas’s family went to hunting trip and he tagged along. Lucas got sick back then that he stayed in the cabin while his grandfather, his brother and Simon went to hunt instead.
Yet, Simon just couldn’t help worrying of leaving Lucas alone. So, he came back. But what he witnessed was something an 11 years old boy shouldn’t have witnessed. And more especially, an 11-year-old boy, Lucas, shouldn’t be capable of doing.
Simon found him in the salas cabin, bloodied, and holding a shashka (a kind of sabre) while as he stood, a dying wolf was wounded to death.
It was too gory, too bloody, and too ruthless to look at. that in a few days after witnessing that, Simon refused to see Lucas and was constantly having nightmare of meeting his cold ruthless eyes with a blood-stained sword in his hand.
“What if… I indeed killed her?”
Simon’s body froze with Lucas’ words over the phone and for a moment, he wondered if he was again that 11-year-old Lucas who killed that huge wolf with his own hand.
He knew Lucas’s family was never an ordinary one. His father trained them to be like a persistent ruthless hunter. And one of that training was intentionally luring a wolf into the cabin where the sick Lucas was. And that Lucas only did that, killing the wolf ruthlessly, to save himself.
But then, he wondered.
After that harsh and cold way of up-bringing, did Lucas never ever developed a personality like his grandfather’s?
Simon went cold.

Eve rented out a room at the outskirts of the city her friend recommended. Though she didn’t plan to stay in there for too long. She just knew her father so much that she was aware he’ll find her later if she stayed in one place even for a week.
It really was an old, dirty room that anyone who grew up in a well family wouldn’t endure living in. and though Eve wasn’t really used to it, she wasn’t like other rich-spoiled girl who would make a fuss out of it.
She immediately took her clothes off, leaving only her white sweat-drench sando and slipping in a skin-tone shorts. She went into the bathroom and hurriedly washed her face with the water from the sink, making her grunt at the coldness.
She lifted her face, staring at her face. for a moment, she felt a surge of accomplishment inside her, making her grin. She felt like she just broke away from her father’s chain. She felt like she was freed!
And this feeling was something she never felt after her mother’s death.
Then, her eyes saw the small cut in her lower lip. Now that she was looking at it more clearly, she realized how bigger it looked like.
“Does that man didn’t know how to kiss?” she snorted, letting off a short chuckle. She shook her head as she remembered his venomous handsome face. “Too bad he’s my first kiss.” Then, she went to her room and dropped asleep on the bed.

The sun was peeking from the unpleasing curtain of the room, letting in a small illuminance in where Eve lays. She was staring at the bulb in the ceiling that kept blinking when she turned on last night.
It was passed noon and it had been four hours since she started thinking. Thinking on ways to stop the marriage with the Heirta Family.
Heirta Family was one of the most powerful family in their city. Not only were they powerful and the wealthiest, they were also known for being too private and vicious.
There were many conspiracies against the. Like they’re some part of underground society or they’re some mafia family. Especially before the death of the late chairman of their family. Yet, none of those were proven.
So that means, everyone tries to curry favor and connection with them. And at the same time, neither would want to offend and make them an enemy.
“So how can I make them gave up the marriage and leave me alone?”
Eve firmly closed her eyes, biting her lip but groaned in pain after biting the same exact spot of wound-caused-by-a kiss.
“Haish! I should have asked for that man a compensation to-” Eve was halted by the sudden thought that crossed her mind.
She bolted up from bed, with a big smile and widened eyes. slowly, her smile turned into a grin then into a laughter.
“The Heirta Family won’t want a flirty pregnant woman as their daughter-in-law, won’t they?”
Eve made up her mind. She’s going to get pregnant.

Shia was one of Eve’s block mate that she never talked in her entire life except that time where they had to be in one group for school purposes. And other than that, they had never conversations before.
And that was because Shia was one of those rich spoiled girls who acted like a hoe. A type of girl Eve’s father won’t want her to be associated with.
In their university, she’s probably the girl who hooked up with almost every boy that she’s nicknamed, the “Campus B*tch”.
Yet now, Eve was dialing her number for the very first time.
The phone rang and was answered immediately by a sweet, indeed flirty, voice.
“Yes? Who is this honey?”
Eve didn’t lose any second. “It’s me. Eve.”
Still, since Shia and her never really talked much, she couldn’t recognize her voice and which Eve she was.
“Eve who? Eve Fora that my ex-boyfriend cheated with? Or Evelyn Rosh, that b*tch who stole my boy? Or was it Eve who-”
Perhaps, she was planning to mention every single ‘Eve’ she knew that made Eve roll her eyes. she cut her off.
“Eve Rizzo.”
“WHAT?! EVE RIZZO?! ARE F*CKIN’ LYING TO ME?! IS THIS A PRANK? Why would that good girly girl call me?! you must be kidding!”
Soon, the other line was filled with high-pitch laughter that made Eve’s ears hurt. Of course, Shia won’t believe she would call her. so, does Eve never believe either.
“No. I’m serious. It’s really me.”
A moment of silence, Shia stopped laughing. Then, her serious tone was suddenly heard.
“What do you want Miss Eve Rizzo, the campus ideal girl?” she wasn’t teasing or mocking her, but was stating a fact that the whole university knew.
And this made Eve grit her teeth. She hated that title.
“I want to ask you a favor.”
“What type?”
Eve gathered her courage, though she had always been brave. It’s just that, it’s as if, she was uttering a word that will change her life in an instant.
“I want you to bring me to a place where I can meet boys. The more they are, the better.”
After saying those words, indeed, like she expected Shia started bursting out in a laughter like as if she told her the biggest joke in history.
Eve stood in front of a door that seemed not to be the place Shia would go to. not to mention the narrow alleys Eve struggled to walked into, this place was just too dilapidated and filled with people that were too suspicious. Men that were in it don’t look like the ‘rich-handsome hot hunk’ Shia rushed to bragged about. And of course, she did have the honor to hook up with them. The place was not far from where her rented place was but the hundreds passage she went into made it looked like she just walked a mile just to reach it. “Have I gone to the wrong place?” she wondered but then, the enormous ‘PIACERE’ (pronounced as pya-siyere) was clearly written on bold letter with red lights on top of the door. She reached for her cellphone in her handbag, about to call Shia. But then, even before she could take it out, she heard a flirty sweet tone yelling far behind her. Though she wasn’t familiar with Shia’s voice, she was sure it was her. “Eve girly!” a
Shia left her in the pool of wildly dancing people. After they entered the door, the loud beat of electric yet sensual music overwhelmed Eve’s ears. This music was just too different from the classical pieces of her ballet music. Listening to this type of music felt like awakening something sleeping inside her body. it urged her to dance. To shake and sway her body like these people inside the bar. Yet, instead of doing so, she was there standing like a post or a frozen statue. She neither can move as she was intimidated by these wild people. Wild and free. An exact epitome of her dreams. “Get it together, Eve!” she scolded herself, gripping at the hem or her dress. “You need to do this to avoid that d*mned marriage. Plus, this is your dream, right? To dance wild and free without your father’s constraints?” For her, it’s better to raise a child alone than to get married with someone like her father who didn’t value his wife. Eve jumped on her feet wh
“I WEL NE-BER GET MARRIED! I WEL…I WILL…HOOK UP WITH SOME GUY AND …” The rest of her rants trailed off with an inaudible mumble. Simon finally came back with a glass of water and a small white pill. Seeing the state, the woman was in awake his caring instincts that he naturally went to give her the medicine himself. However, even before he could reach a meter near the girl, a towering man blocked his path whose eyes looked as if he would rip all his body parts apart. Simon gulped hard. “Of course, you’ll be the one to give her the medicine,” he grinned hesitatingly, handing the glass and pill to Lucas. Lucas still eyed him threateningly, as he received it and went near the bed where the woman was. She was still mumbling drunk which was the effect of the drug given to her. It was one of the drugs common in Piacere which makes the woman too drunk even with just a sip of a drink that was mixed with it. and if they’re too drunk, they neither pass out or
“Why does she keep watching Simon?! Why does those pair of pretty hazelnut eyes kept following every move he makes? Was she even drooling while staring at Simon?!” Lucas was about to lose his temper. But what caught him off guard and threw him off his seat was what the lady suddenly uttered. “Simon.” “What is it?” “Do you want to hook up with me?” “WHATTTT?!!!!” With horrified eyes, Simon glanced at Lucas who had now gotten up from his chair. Lucas looked as if he was indeed really to chew him up alive with sharp fangs and long claws. Simon stepped back, shaking his head many times but Lucas was unconvinced even for a bit. “I swear I didn’t know her before and I don’t plan to do anything with her! I also didn’t flirt with her or-” Simon stepped back and had fallen down to the bed where Eve was sitting at. Like her, he also sat there while eyes still watching Lucas in case he attacks him. Nervous, Simon leaned towards the girl who
CHAPTER 8 “…but why don’t you consider me too?” “Find me here…” “You shall meet no man other than me…” Listening those words repeatedly inside her mind, Eve heart suddenly started beating faster than usual. She felt nervous. Like a girl who just received a smile from her crush. From staring at the ceiling, she tilted to her side. Where she saw the dilapidated buildings that were packed with people. It was tall yet old, and unlike the clean and glass-walled buildings she often saw when she was still in her dad’s house. Unlike their beautiful and tall mansion that could overlook the whole city, all she could see from this rugged and small room she stays at were old and unorganized buildings. And only people who really have nothing could endure to stay in such place. She sat up, looking around her room. It was silent. Cold. And felt empty. “But how different is this from our mansion? I cannot even call it my home…” With the bitter thought
“IT’S YOU, LUCAS LEVIN! YOU DID IT DID YOU?!” He smirked at her. To Eve’s frustration, he even stood up proudly and snaked his muscled arms around her waist. And did he just haul her so effortlessly like that?! Like as if she’s his property?! Leaning down to her ear level, Lucas whispered seductively. “So, what if I did? will you consider me now?” Eve gritted her teeth and decided to keep her cool. “Not unless I fall for you. Too bad, you’re someone who won’t ever catch my attention.” After seeing his smirking face turning sour, Eve decided to turned around when she felt a winner in an unprecedented game between them. Yet, to her surprise, someone pushed her back, causing her to entirely threw herself on the person behind her. Her back bumped into Lucas’s body, feeling every muscle his chest and abdomen had. And she almost forgot to breathe with the impact. “Where are you going Eve Girlie?! I didn’t know you were acquainted with these hot guys here.
Eve was losing breath. Lucas was holding her both on her waist and she never expected his light touch to be so warm. No. it was so hot that she felt like being burned under his touch. When she still kept her arms straight and frozen at her side, his hands brushed up towards her shoulder and cascades down to her wrist. Again, she let out a little gasp at the tension building up inside her body. Lucas guided her hand and led it up to his nape, suggesting her to wrap it around it. and so, she willingly obeyed. The music was slow but sensual, hot and provoking. He was also too close to her that she almost thought he’s just making things up to molest or make a move towards her. yet, when she looked around, everyone was doing the same. Some were even worse, almost sticking their bodies too close to the other that it didn’t felt right to watch them. Some were even kissing that she instantly looked away. And her eyes were caught by a pair of intense eyes grinning
Shia was having a blast with Simon though most of the time, it was one-sided. Only she was the one who seemed to be enjoying herself since Simon was really not on mood. Still, it was a good thing he still accompanied her drinking. “What music do you like? I like classical ones. You?” At first, Simon was uninterested in all her questions before that he just compulsorily replied. Yet, what she said right now gained his attention. His brows cocked upwards as he looked at her from head to toe. “Are you sure you like classical music? You?” Shia laughed with a pretense sulking. “Hey! are you mocking me? I may not look like it but I really do love classical ones. For me, it’s such calming haven I would trade anything with.” “Then, why are you here
Eve dropped her hand holding the phone to her side. Breathing deeply several times to calm herself, she decided to go out of the bathroom now. however, as she unlocked the door and pulled it open, her eyes widened in surprise by who she saw. Her lips tremble again as she stared at those pair of raven-black eyes. “L-Lucas…” Did he hear it? Did he already know she was leaving him? that she’s betraying him? That she’s planning to take their child away from him? Her heart pounded so hard that all she couldEve dropped her hand holding the phone to her side. Like… Why was he here? How did he know about Theo? Why was he out when he was supposed to be in prison? Why… would he suddenly show up in a renowned party such as this when he’s just some hot hunk who might not be able to afford it? Wait. In the first place, Lucas Levin wasn’t some ordinary man to begin with. But if he wasn’t an ordinary man, then who exactly was he? Turning around, what Eve saw first was a well-dressed man’s body in an expensive black tux that proudly revealed his broad chest and square shoulders. Then slowly, with quivering eyes, she looked up at him.
“You aren’t my father’s mistress, too right? that’s why he let you in?” “Prrrkkk! WHAT THE HELL EVE?!” Shia stood up, eyes were almost popping out of her eye sockets with what she just heard. Of course, she’s a flirt but she won’t ever flirt with an old man! especially, Eve’s father. Although Shia’s face had paled so much from what she just said, Eve just crossed her legs as if she said nothing wrong and looked at her. “I am just stating a possibility. My dad would never let a stranger into his house for no reason. And if you’re his mistress, it will be no surprise since you are beautiful and a real catch. I would even love to live with you rather than his mistress, Livia.” In disbelief, Shia was left speechless. She sat on her chair, gobbling up all the wine left from her glass, and gawked at Eve with wide eyes. She
In your house?” “In. Their. House.” Eve put emphasis on her words since after all, she long had refused to call this place her own house/ home. Shia paused for a moment but replied as she blinked her long lashes away. “Well, I had my own ways…” “You aren’t my father’s mistress, too right? that’s why he let you in?” “Prrrkkk! WHAT THE HELL EVE?!” Shia stood up, eyes were almost popping out of her eye sockets with what she just heard. Of course, she’s a flirt but she won’t ever flirt with an old man! especially, Eve’s father.
Eve was awakened by an adorable angel-like boy in front of her. He looked somewhat annoyed, probably because she didn’t wake up only until he raised his voice. She also noticed that his tiny hands were cupping her cheeks. “Mommy is such a sleepy-head,” he grumbled with pouted lips. And instead of feeling scolded, she couldn’t help but giggle. Just when did you see someone scolding as cute as her son? “Fine, fine. Mommy will now get up, alright? Now, get off me,” she said with a laugh that made Theo’s brow crease even more. He’s really pissed now. Watching her like this, Eve had always wondered if Lucas would look the same if ever he gets annoyed too. because thinking back to when they were together, Lucas seemed to never
“You just said what?!” “I said, give me Morris Hierta’s number,” Eve repeated impatiently but it wasn’t what Shia was asking of. Thus, with the same impatient voice, she answered back, “No, not that one. It’s what you said before that.” Eve paused for a moment and thought of what she said before. She even combed her hair using her fingers since she had been thinking a lot since the day that Theo had disappeared. And trying to think further frustrates her. “You mean, me being back here?” “HELL YES!” That was Shias blurt out. It was obvious that she was already sulking for not telling her beforehand. “I’ve been convincing you for like ages to visit me and you never did even for once. And
‘What are you even thinking, Eve Rizzo? Did you just thought that Lucas would come and see Theo?’ 7 “You’re here. I was here to fetch Theo to a dinner but this guard stopped us. You’re not trying to take my grandson away from me, do you?” Eve was chocked by her own self. She could not believe what she just heard. Her father sounded as if sulking. Thus, she laughed. “How could I, dad? I think Theo loves you already. Isn’t it right, Theo?” She looked down at her son who had been waiting to gain her attention. Theo nodded and smiled wide. “Hmm! I love grandpa but I love mommy more! Do you love me too, Mommy?” “Of course! I love my Theo the most!” Eve was about to carry him but then, she was stunned when her father kneeled to level to Theo and then he carried him in his arms again. “Then let’s go! Grandpa will take you to a dinner even you love your mommy more.” Her dad walked away with Theo, giggling guiltily. After recovering fr
This son of hers… sometimes him being so intelligent in words and memory was too troublesome. Even his love for her can be sometimes too much. What was he thinking, trying to catch Lucas so he can bring him back in their home? To what? To let her hug Lucas instead of his picture? “Damn.” Eve cursed under her breath and run even faster. She just wanted to disappear right now. Such embarrassment… she couldn’t take it. As Lucas watch the woman running as she carried a little boy in her arms, he couldn’t help but grit his teeth. He was overwhelmed with mixed emotions. Anger. Disappointment. Longing. And desperation.
Theo. Where do you want to study?” At her question, Theo went and sat beside her, looking at the screen of her laptop. Those were lists of schools where he could study kindergarten. Even before Theo could understand things, Eve had always let him choose things in his life. And just like today, she was letting him pick at what school he’ll study. Although he’s just still five, Theo could already read and understand a lot of words. Though he knew far more than what Eve was aware of. Lifting his eyes at her mother, he pointed at the screen. And Eve read it. “Davidson Academy?”
