Matthew left the room very early the next morning before his wife could wake up. He didn't dare to look at her or even to bring up the matter they left unsettled last night, so he left the room while she was sleeping.
He walked around the large grounds of the hotel without a specific location in mind, he just decided that he needed some peace of mind and time alone to think. Not being able to sleep properly last night was going to play a role in his mood.
He could not sleep well because each time he closed his eyes, all he saw

THE PAIN OF BETRAYAL CAN LESSEN WITH TIME, BUT THE BITTER TASTE WILL ALWAYS REMAIN. " -Amyirechi ♠♠♠♠ "I'm thinking we should take all our things with us, because if I know Flo as much as I think I do, then we're definitely not going to be able to come back to this hotel," Matt mentioned to Doris as they walked towards the elevator that led to their room. He didn't give her any option either way; to go with him, or refuse. He never bothered to find out if she was ready to meet his sister's family, he simply assumed she was cool with his decision. Doris watched his movement and words carefully like she was expecting him to give off a negative signal of some point. Not that she was scared he would harm her, but that he has
LIE-: LIVING IN ERROR." -Unknown ♠♠♠♠♠ The loud blaring of the train horn jerked Doris from her relaxed position on the seat. She covered her eyes with her palms, as a shield from the bright rays of the sun, coming in through the wide windows of the train. It was indeed a sunny day. She looked around, surveying the passengers on the train. Matthew was seated beside her, scrolling slowly through his phone. A habit of his whenever he was trying to avoid something or someone. Her eyes slowly scanned all the people around, they were all fair-skinned; foreigners to be precise. There were a few blacks around, but they didn't look Nigerian, they were dressed like native Kenyans. She yawned widely, her hand coming up to cover her mouth. She was very hungry already. She skipped d
"I just can live with the lie, but I won't live, with the knowledge." -Amyirechi ♠♠♠♠♠♠ Doris was stunned when they arrived at the magnificent looking house. Adrienne announced that they were home. The three of them, got down from the car leaving Phil behind. He drove the car away from the building. "Home sweet home," Adrienne gushed the words to Matthew, who was rubbing the crease on his forehead, and looking very tired. "Thanks Adi," he said to her, calling her by his nickname for her. "Don't mention, what are friends for?" She glanced at Doris before forming a small smile on her lips, “You guys must be really tired from your journey, come on let's go inside. I'm certain Flo's already antsy...” She said, before making her way to the white glass house.
Fiction is the truth inside the lie." - STEPHEN KING♠♠♠♠♠♠"Goodness! You're finally home," Florence rose from the couch and walked towards the tall man—carrying a young girl in his arms."Matt's here, and his new wife too." She told him."Shh," he put a finger on his lips, gesturing that she keep quiet "She's asleep” He whispered back."Okay," Florence placed a short peck on his cheek. He started walking the stairs with the little girl in his arms, unaware of the guest sitting on his sofa."Sorry about that," Florence turned to Doris, an apologetic look on her face "she rarely sleeps, so we ensure she gets enough rest whenever she can." She further explained."That must be a f
Nothing fools you better than the lie you tell yourself." -Unknown.♠♠♠♠♠♠As Doris buttoned up the red-flannel shirt she wore over a black skin-tight jean the next morning, her thoughts flashed back to yesterday. Despite her attitude and foul thoughts towards Matthew, he didn't hesitate to accept the mistake as his and apologize, he made it seem like the fault was his.Suddenly, Matthew's arm snaked around her waist, pulling her close to his chest. Using his nose, he nuzzled the gap in-between her ear. It was ticklish causing Doris to shudder."Good morning, sorry I wasn't here when you woke." He started. She was left stunned at his words. Was he for real? Apologizing for not being beside her when she woke up this morning, gave her another reason to be a
" SIN HAS MANY TOOLS, BUT A LIE IS THE HANDLE WHICH FITS THEM ALL." ♠♠♠♠♠♠ Matthew shut the door once he and Adrienne were outside the mansion. He meant to see her off until she went out of earshot, but she had other things in mind. "So..." Adi drawled, looking and batting her lashes at Matthew. "So what?" he asked, massaging his shin while his left hand was inside the pocket of the tracksuit he was putting on. "Are you just going to see me off, won't you at least come see my house?" she replied. "Oh! I was planning to come visit one of these days, with my wife of course" He informed her, whilst staring at the big black gate. "Uhmm... uhh... sure! Of course you can come with her some other day, but today I'd like you to come see what I've done with the house."
♠♠♠♠♠ All the occupants of the mansion gathered at the garden behind the house when it was dark and night. They were busy getting a few kitchen utensils ready, as instructed by Alfred. Well, except Florence and her daughter. Zara who refused to stay away from Doris all day was eventually swayed by her mother, and was seated on her mom's lap. The others ran around to get the place set for whatever Alfred had in mind. "Alright everyone listen up!" Alfred called out while clapping his hands to gain everyone's attention. He dressed in white khaki shorts and plaid brown polo, and stood at the center of the garden. Everyone present turned to listen to what he had to say. "I'm sure you all are wondering why I asked you guys to help Kat get these things ready and bring them here," he took a thorough look at every face present, taking in the small gathering of people "I decided that since everyone's here, we sh
♠♠♠♠♠♠After dinner, everyone gathered at the long table; making jokes and reliving childhood moments. Fortunately for Doris, Zara dozed off on her lap during the moment, whatever the adults were talking and laughing about was none of her concerns.Alfred and his family retired early to their room as soon as Florence complained of exhaustion, she apologized that she was not making the event fun but her hormones and current state was to be blamed.Katrina offered to help Doris clear the table whilst Adi engaged Matt in one of her never-ending conversation. Amidst the conversation, Adi would move closer to give him a clear view of her cleavage, which wasn't very difficult to do due to how low the v-neck of the red gown she wore, was. Doris felt nauseous just by looking at Adi's motions, so, she decided to leave for a short while before she does something she'll regret later.
Epilogue °•°•°•°•°•°•° Matthew's POV When I arrived at Doris's house in time to take them to the party, I felt relieved that the hurdles of the past week have been put behind me, for now. As soon as the last meeting in Badagry was adjourned, I rushed to the airport to join the last flight heading to Imo State. Even though it cost me extra naira to buy a ticket at the last minute. I missed my sons. I never knew that parenting was this exhilarating. Sure, they are a handful most times, but I would never trade every sacrifices I've made for their sakes just to have a less complicated life. They filled my days with a lot of light. Their charisma and intelligence made me proud to call them mine. When I made the decision to be part of their lives, I knew that I had made the best decision of my life. The most thing on my mind was to freshen

These children would not lead me to my untimely end. “Have you checked your room properly?” I asked, knowing how lazy he could be whenever he's been instructed to do something. Especially, if that job was against his will. “Yes, and David too. We didn't see anything.” he passed a glance at his twin brother. I could drill the truth out of David if I wanted to. However, my older son was too softhearted and I did not want to put him in a tight spot where he had no choice but to either betray his brother and tell me the truth, or lie to me to protect his brother. I decided to giv
•°•°•°•°•°•°•° Doris regained consciousness the next day. She learnt from the nurse that her sister had gone out earlier and that her babies were okay although not completely out of danger. She was glad to set her eyes on the light of day again not to talk of the trauma she experienced yesterday. She closed her eyes and shook her head to clear the thoughts running through her mind. She refused to believe that Matthew could go to such extent just to have his revenge on her. She always expected to be punished for her sins, but she never imagined that spending her time in jail would be the punishment he saw fit. She realized that she would not serve the punishment alone, her children were surely going to be affected.
“Future is the best analyzer of the truth.. ” -Bishop K.K Degaya ♠♠♠♠♠♠Forty minutes later, Dorine had gotten to get them to the hospital with the help of the taxi driver who was kind enough to endure all the stress. She encountered a short difficulty with the hospital procedures at the reception, but she received help as soon as the head nurse appeared. She paced the floors of the waiting area, her hands folded at her back. She looked worried and worked her lips nervously. After five minutes or more, two of the nurses attending to her sister emerged from the room. “What happened?” she rushed towards them, glancing back and forth at the two of them. “The head nurse is inside, she wants to see you” the darker nurse related. She watched as both nu
Lie is poison, a liar is a culprit responsible for the poisoning." -Amyirechi ♠♠♠♠♠♠♠ He clutched a hand over his chest and balanced himself with the help of his walking aid. Matthew rushed to his dad's side and helped him down on a chair. "Dad, try to calm down please." he pleaded. "Dear, what happened?" Ruth said to her husband as she made her way towards him. Raphael Udochi shook off his son's hand from his shoulder and pointed accusingly at him. "There's something definitely wrong in this house, why won't he tell me?" He turned to his wife, and she turned her face away. The guilt could not let her look him in the eye. "Tell me...Ruth, what is everyone keeping from me? Why haven't I seen Dorine and her sist
You had me intoxicated with your lies, and sober with your truths..." -Amyirechi ♠♠♠♠♠ Damian stood and watched quietly, from the balcony of his house, as the twins trudged in from the gate. Carrying their baggage behind. Dorine had called him on the day they checked out of the hotel. She used the hotel line to inform him of the change in plans, and he had promised that his guest house was open to them anytime. He did not hesitate to send the address and directions on how to get to the house, she immediately wrote it down and had headed back to the room to help her sister pack. Now, after being thrown out of the mansion, they were here. In the one place, Dorine never imagined she would ever live in, nor with the person. Doris, on her end, was reluctant to go ahead with her sister's decision
“Amyirechi ” ♠♠♠♠♠♠ Ruth's scream alerted every other person in the house. Matthew was the first person to rush into the guest room. Martha was almost on his heels. She came in afterwards. “Mom, what is it?” he said, very alert and observed the room for any strange occurrence. Ruth shook her head, refusing to believe the revelation. “Ruth, what happened? Why did you scream?" Martha asked. Looking back and forth at the twin's faces.
Despite she felt her heart thumping harder in her chest, she tried as much as she could to put a smile across. Her mind wandered on how to handle the issue on ground while Mrs Udochi walked off into the kitchen, her son trailed behind. Mr Udochi made himself comfortable on one of the sofas and instructed Doris to put on a news channel for him. She knew the channel he watched most because that was all he did back then, when he was recuperating from the heart attack. After she left him, she worried on the best approach to tackle the matter and break their hearts. "They're here," she announced to her twin-who laid on the bed in the guest room-listening to music with her earphones plugged in. "Huh?" Dorine sat up and removed the earphones. "You said..?" Doris paced the room, her expression clouded in worry and unease. She felt arms around her, and loo
“A liar must be a man of great memory. Same goes for a fiction writer...” -Unknown ♠♠♠♠ “Oh! You're home finally.” Martha said, enthusiastic about Doris' presence. Especially, when she sighted the luggage Doris held behind. “Yes,” Doris responded. “I was getting bored of staying in this house all by myself.” Martha chattered as she walked with Doris into the main sitting room. Doris fidgeted and was passing glances at the door. “What's wrong?" Martha, who noticed her uneasiness, inquired. “Ugh...I brought someone you might like to meet,” she related. “Come in D,” Doris called out. Martha eagerly waited for the shadow that was moving across the walls to come into view. Her interest piqued when the shadow
