CHAPTER SIX

I looked at my father and for a moment I was speechless, disbelief freezing my words. I also glanced at Mom, hoping—no, pleading—for a sign that this was some twisted misunderstanding. But her face mirrored Dad’s expression: as if I was demanding for a child I never have…as I I was crazy, that was how they are looking at me.

My body trembled as I now realize what my parents are demanding from me. Yes, I knew that I must pay a price for returning leaving them and then return back….but not this…not with my own daughter. I made the decision to come back home because of her, not to lose her.

“No,” I breathed, shaking my head. My lips trembled as I struggled to form words. “Dad… please… tell me this is some kind of horrible joke. Bella… she’s my daughter. She's also your own granddaughter!”

Dad’s gaze hardened. “No, she is not! And.. will never be a Roderigo.” He thundered. “ You have humiliated me far enough and now you will abide by my own decisions. That ‘child,’ as you call her, will be placed with a family who can raise her properly. Someone who’s fit to care for her.” He paused, and his voice turned venomous. “While you… you will erase every trace of that disgraceful man or his offspring from your memory.”

The words slammed into me like a physical blow, fury bubbling up from deep within. I felt trapped..suffocating ….under the weight of his words. I tried to breath out but I just can't. My child… my Bella, being taken away, given to strangers as if she were some object to be discarded?

I'm still alive, hale and healthy. My..my child will now be given to another person to maltreated? The thought of it alone, makes it more unbearable for me.

I can't allow it...no, I will never allow anyone to separate me from my child.

“NO!” A surge of strength I didn’t know I possessed propelled me forward, breaking free of Mom’s grasp. In a blink of eye, I lunged at Dad, clutching his shirt, my face inches from his. “I never knew you could be this cruel even to your own blood,” I spat, voice quaking with rage.

“ You can take away anything, anything you want but not my child…” my lip trembled. “ Not Bella. Bella is mine, and I’ll fight anyone who tries to take her from me. You hear me? She’s mine! So, give me back my child!”

But Dad only looked down at me, an unsettling calm in his eyes. “Maya, do you really think that child…a child tainted by his worthless blood…belongs here? Belong to be called my grandchild? No, she will be raised far from this house, and you will learn to forget her.”

The pain that flooded me was indescribable, twisting my insides, stealing my breath. I felt as if the floor had opened beneath me, plunging me into a pit of despair and helplessness.

“Maya!” Mom’s voice pierced the haze, but I barely registered it, clutching Dad’s shirt with desperation. “i don't care if she is worthy of being your granddaughter or not but she’s worthy of being mine, so give her back!” I screamed, my voice raw and broken.

I could feel my sanity slipping, anger and despair blending until I could hardly see straight. My hands gripped tighter, willing him to feel just a fraction of my agony.

That’s when I noticed it—the smile on his face, cold and satisfied, like he was reveling in my suffering. Like he's enjoying seeing me like this. I was surprised that a father could be like that…how could he?

Gently, he patted my head, and the touch made me recoil.

“Remember this feeling, Maya,” he said, his voice dropping to a chilling whisper. “Remember every bit of this pain, the fire and fury in your eyes. I want you to carry it with you. Remember what it feels like to be powerless, cast aside, your own child torn from you. Use that feeling, that anger, that rage,” he leaned closer, his eyes boring into mine, “to drive my empire forward. Because my empire will always be number one, no matter the cost.”

My grip slackened, hands slipping from his shirt as his words sunk in. Hot, angry tears streamed down my face, blurring my vision. “Dad… how could you do this?” I whispered, broken.

I released Dad’s shirt, feeling all my strength drain away as I fell to my knees.

He stepped back, his face hard. “Show no weakness, Maya. This world has no place for sentiment or foolish attachments…not even love.” He turned away, walking to the window side.

“You will leave for Italy, complete your studies, and when you return, you will take over this empire. Trust me, one day, you’ll thank me.”

My voice was barely a whisper. “Thank you? You’re… taking my daughter from me… and you want me to thank you? You are a monster!”

He turned back and looked at me and he gave a light chuckle. “ Monster? Actually dear, it was the harsh reality of this world that turned me into one and that's why I…Marcus Roderigo, will always be the number one in this world.”

A flicker of impatience crossed his face, and he gestured toward the young woman by the door. “That woman,” he said, pointing with a dismissive wave. “Her name is Mia and she is Bella’s ‘mother’ now. Bella will be registered under her name, and when you leave for Italy, they’ll go with you. But know this: Bella must never know you as her mother.”

My heart shattered, and I felt myself crumbling. “Dad!” The word escaped in a strangled cry. " How can you be so cruel to me? please do not do this to me."

" The decision has been made and if you are not satisfied with it...then she will be given to another family to raise."

Tears flowed down heavily at the thought of my daughter not knowing me as her mother. I would have to watch her growing up calling another woman 'mother.' Wasn't that more cruel even than death itself? How could he asked me to make such decision?

Mom stepped forward, wrapping me in a stiff embrace as if the gesture could somehow make this nightmare go away. “Maya,” she said softly, her voice a whisper of steel. “We know it’s hard, but you have to understand. This is for your reputation… for the family’s image. You must be flawless if you’re to inherit what’s rightfully yours.”

I looked at my mother and wondered if she was given that same choice, would she did the same? The weight of her words pressed down on me, suffocating.

“ And remember, our alliance with the Bane family is still intact. You should prepare to marry Kingsley once you return.”

I shut my eyes close as I dare not object to his decision. Not now…but maybe later. Mom pulled me closer, but her embrace was cold, unfeeling.

Hot tears poured down my cheeks, my mind unable to grasp the cruelty of it all. Through the blur of tears, one thought rose above the despair, a spark of defiance igniting within me. “Lance Wells,” I whispered, the words laced with venom, my heart pounding with a hatred that threatened to consume me. “I swear… you will feel every ounce of this pain. When I return, you’ll face the wrath you so richly deserve.”

She cries at the drop of a hat, wants validation from any male in her life that denies her & is naive. If she manages to get proper revenge and stay off his dick for the entirety of the story, I'd be genuinely surprised. I'm seeing some "clouding my senses/pressed against him" moments in her future

The skyline stretched endlessly before me, a concrete jungle of success and power that I’d conquered, bit by bit. Six years ago, I was already at the rock bottom, at the edge of losing it all but now I have acquired it back, not all but I'm now stable. In one hand, I held a glass of wine; the other rested in my pocket as I leaned forward, but the taste felt as hollow as the accomplishments that filled my life. I had it all back now or so they said. The fame I wanted, the wealth that I never wanted to exhaust and the Influence with more powerful people across the world. But still, there was something missing that not even the finest champagne or most lavish parties could not replace. *****MAYA'S POV**** I took a deep breath as I leaned back in the plush seat of the limousine, my gaze settling on my own reflection in the dark, tinted window. For a brief moment, I almost didn’t recognize the woman staring back at me. It seemed like I was looking at a completely different person. I hadn’t undergone any plastic surgery or liposuction; I earned this look and my toned body through hard work, sweat and dieting. Betsy and Mia were there to support me every time I felt like giving up, especially on days when I couldn't resist the urge to eat. And of course…our little Bella whose smile alone was worth every sacrifice. I had also changed my name from Maya to Ariel. Just wanted to leave everything behind. My phone buzzed, snapping me out of my reverie and a smile graced my face as it was no other than Betsy. “Hey, I just arrived,” I said softly, a smile already forming. “Finally! I’m already missing you like crazy, even though you just left!” Betsy’s voice was a comforti

“ I don't think so.” I replied almost immediately, not turning to her and continuing splashing water on my hands. “ Really? But I ….” Ashley was cut short by another voice that chimed in and I released the breath that I didn't know I was holding in. “Right, Ashley! Why didn’t you and your husband arrive together?” the woman asked, her tone both casual and probing. I could feel her gaze shifted back to the mirror as she continued her business. With a dismissive chuckle, she replied, “I had a late shoot and couldn’t make it home in time, so I told him to go ahead. I’ll catch up, as I always do.” Her smile was a practiced mask, perfectly concealing whatever emotions lay beneath. “Oh, I see,” the woman replied, nodding knowingly. “To be honest, I thought something might have happened between the two of you. You know...there are rumors you two might be getting di….” But before she could finish the sentence, another woman beside her gently elbowed her, trying to signal her to stop, bu

It was true that he recommended me for the contract but demanding for fifty percent was a bit much and since I have me own plan back then, I decided to agree with him but now that everything had been sorted out, I changed my mind. Everyone looked at me, confused. “Is something wrong?”My wife asked but I'm struggling to form anywords, my thoughts was a chaotic mess. Wait, did he just say that Maya… no Ariel Roderigo… my ex-wife? Is going to be the one in charge now? If she was the new representative for A&R, that meant our entire contract was in her hands. The very woman I’d walked away from was now the gatekeeper to my company’s future. But how could I explain any of this to anyone? How could I admit that the poised, powerful woman on stage was once my wife whom I abandoned for their daughter? No matters how i put it, I think it will be a letting insane. I managed to stammer, “No, it’s… it’s nothing.” I turned back to Henry, desperation lacing my voice. “This isn’t confirmed, right? Minutes later, the door opened and Maya came out of the restroom, turning towards the hall again. “Maya!” I called out and she stopped in her tracks and slowly turned around to me. Her eyes widened slightly in surprise. “Are you referring to me?” she asked in a cold and distant tone as she pointed to herself. “Yes, of course. How can I not recognize you when we spent four years together? You have changed a lot, but…” I tried to move closer to her, but she stepped back, and I could see fear on her face as she seemed scared of me. “What do you think you are doing? Are you trying to harass me?” “Hell no! Why the fuck would I do that?” “I don’t know who you think I am, but you must be mistaken. ******MAYA / ARIEL'S POV***** “Ariel, there you are," Mom called out as I entered the dining, while everyone turned their attention back to me. "Come and join us." I smiled politely and walked over to the table. Kingsley and I exchanged smiles as he quickly stood up from his seat and pulled out a chair for me. "You look beautiful," he whispered behind me as I sat down. "Thanks" I replied, a warmth feeling spreading through me. I glanced around the table at my parents, Richard Bane, Abigail Bane, who was Kingsley's mother, and Nora Bane, who was Kingsley's sister. The all smile kindly at me, which I returned. Kingsley's family was here today to talk about our engagement and wedding. I already insisted that there was no need for an engagement ceremony once the wedding date was set, but both my parents and his parents refused, claiming they wanted this to be a grand affair, a world wedding that everyone would talk about. That was what brought me here, to this gathering. Nora co

After dinner, Kingsley and I excused ourselves from the table. The evening air embraced us as we made our way to the balcony, the stars twinkling above us and casting a soft glow over the garden. "Are you okay?" Kingsley asked gently, leaning against the railing with concern evident in his voice. I sighed, looking up at the night sky. "I'm fine. Just... thinking about everything." "Like you're not comfortable with the wedding?" "No. Of course, I am. It's just that everything is moving so fast as I just returned yesterday, and now this," I said, lowering my gaze and fidgeting with my fingers. Kingsley reached out, gently

You told your fans and everyone that you were volunteering for six months, and you’ve hardly even spent two weeks. Now you’re leaving?”She smiled weakly. “Yes, that’s true. It’s just that I need to do some things for myself too. Please don’t take it personally. The workshop was at the back of the orphanage's main building. It was a small house built for storing things, but Lance decided to make use of it as a workshop. Lance made small chairs and tables for the kids and he also made swings and so many things around here with the use of wood. They were all amazing. Had no idea he had that in him. But what I like most when he’s doing his job here is when he's shirtless and working. I giggled at the thought of that.I liked watching him cut the woods as he looked so hot during that time—his hair falling over his face as he rise and fall, picking things up. His abs. And sweat streaming down his well-chiseled body as he focused on his work… I loved it all.As I wanted to enter the workshop, I saw the flowers planted outside. So I walked closer and picked some, hanging around my hair and putting some behind my ears.Stepping inside, I saw Lance picking up a bottle of water from the freezer. He opened it and began to drink, turning around at th

And she had two sister-in-laws. Twins. No matter what she did, it was never enough for the three of them. They insulted her for every single mistake, criticized her for every bad thing that happened to her husband—even if it was his job that had problems—and always made her feel like she wasn’t good enough. Every bad thing and misfortune that happened to her husband was blamed on her.“At first, I thought I could handle it." She continued. SIX MONTHS LATER ~~~MAYA’S POV~~~ Looking up into the sky, I used my hand to cover my eyes as the warm morning sun shone on me. Seeing the sky so clear and bright, I think today will be very, very great. Something good is going to happen. I smiled and then continued my work, which was spreading the freshly washed bedspread on the rope. It is a weekend thing for me—or should I say for every woman in this orphanage—and I like doing it as it gives me time to think, to breathe, and at the same time, to watch Bella while working. I wasn’t the only one washing the entire bedspread alone in this orphanage, as we had other women who were employed and those who also came to volunteer for a few days. Some even spent months with us, helping with the kids and other work in the orphanage. The orphanage was always lively and busy, especially in the mornings when all the kids woke up at the same time. It was filled with the sounds of children running down from each of their rooms, having morni

And as much as I wanted to be strong, I couldn’t shake the weight pressing against my chest because Mia's death had caused a lot of damage to my family—both to Maya and to Bella.Maya had completely changed in ways I couldn't understand. It was as if she carried a guilt too heavy for her to bear, and she wouldn’t talk to me or anyone about it. If she wasn't sitting on the balcony and gazing out into empty space, she would be staring at or holding Mia’s picture, pressing it tightly to her chest as if letting go of it would mean letting go of Mia.And no matter what I did to bring her to her senses and make her understand that we were losing Bella, she just wouldn't come to her right mind.
