~~~LANCE'S POV~~~
Tapping my feet against the tiled floor, I checked my watch for what felt like the hundredth time. It had been four hours and seventeen minutes since Bryan and I had been sitting here in the doctor's office after bringing in the man whom they had mysteriously found on my property.
I was still surprised by how exactly he got whisked there because the man I saw didn't look like someone who could afford a boat or yacht to bring him to my penthouse.
And with his condition, I didn't think he could swim either. When Bryan and Bella found him, he was in bad shape, with blood trickling from his nose, ear, and mouth.
We had no idea what was wrong with him, so we called the emergency line, which sent the fastest boat here and took him away while we followed on my own.
"I still can't figure out how he got there," I said, more to myself than to Bryan. "The property is completely surrounded by water. The bridges are monitored. There's no way someone just wandered onto the island
    ~~~MAYA'S POV~~~The Miami sunset painted the sky in shades of orange and pink as Bella and I stepped into La Marina, one of the city's most exclusive restaurants—so we had heard, as this was our first time here.But I think that person who directed us here did sweet talk about it. The restaurant isn't that great.Well it got a nice view.The maître d' led us to a table near the window, where one could get a nice view of what was happening outside.And we can't even ordered from our table. Had to stand up. I asked what Bella would like to have, as I was going to wait for Lance to get here, but I doubted Bella would be able to."Can I have the chocolate milkshake?" Bella asked.But it was too sweet. She had already had a lot of sweet things."Just this once, please… It's still my day. Remember you said the whole week is my day. Pretty please?" she pouted.She really looked so cute as she begged."Alright. Just this one," I smiled, tucking a strand of her dark hair behind her ear. "And

    I felt my face flame brighter, and right now, I felt like my lips were swollen. I was certain my carefully applied lipstick was now smeared across my mouth.Lance waved at Bella, who just shook her head, probably wondering what type of parents she had.Bryan then headed in, and once we were alone, I pushed at Lance's chest. "That was completely inappropriate," I hissed.Lance caught my hand and brought it to his lips, placing a kiss on my palm that made my breath catch. "But you love it when I'm inappropriate," he murmured. "And later tonight, I plan to be very inappropriate indeed and continue where we stopped in the morning."Heat pooled low in my belly at his words. I remembered every single thing that happened in the morning. With his head between my legs. I suddenly began to feel all sorts of emotions as I remembered how amazing it all felt.But I forced myself to focus and turned away from him, heading in. I didn't even know if he followed or not, as I didn't want to look back.

    ~~~LANCE'S POV~~~With our fingers intertwined, Maya and I stepped into the club. I actually told her that I have never been to this club before because if I do, she might want to ask for the details. And If she knew I'd been here with Ashley and what we did when were here, it might ruin our night.Since those memories belonged to a different life, I decided not to mention it, afterall some truths are best buried, especially when they're nothing but ghosts of a past I was desperate to leave behind.I guided Maya to a secluded booth in the VIP section, my hand never leaving the small of her back. We sat on the velvet cushion and the ordered from two glass of martinis.From our vantage point, we watched bodies of others moving beneath the strobing lights. Then my eyes went back to Maya and I noticed the way her eyes darted nervously around the room and how her shoulders curved inward, making herself smaller."Don't tell me this is your first time at a place like this?" I asked, drawing
    The journey that should have taken fifteen minutes but thanks to Maya, it took is one hour as we stopped four separate times for her to empty the contents of her stomach on the roadside. I held her hair back each time, murmuring words of reassurance to her while.And tonight, I vow to myself that I would never let her drink again.By the time we reached the hotel, Maya's behavior had completely changed. One minute she was giggling uncontrollably and the next she was teetering on the edge of tears. Hitting my chest few times as if I was causing her pain.I could see head turning to us, thinking that I did something to her or cheated on her.I sighed heavily as I could not believe she had painted me as the villain."He must be a bad husband...""How could anyone cheat on a woman that beautiful?""He probably drove her to drink to be with his mistress"I swallowed my frustration as I heard all those snippet from people walking in and out of the hotel and focused on the task at hand.     Biting my fingers like that would somehow erase all the memories that have haunting me since I woke up, I stared blankly out of the window.I could not believe that I cried like a kid. Talked too loudly right in front of everyone. And—God—I even spoke to a freaking shopping cart.Can you believe that?“Why would you even do something so embarrassing?” I muttered through clenched teeth, my face burning at the thought.I hadn’t been able to look directly at Lance's face since morning. In fact I have been avoiding him.And now, we are back on a plane heading back to Los Angeles as Bella had accidentally let it slip this morning that there was some kind of father’s contest happening today.She wasn't going to tell us if not for how she had let it slip out. I knew she found it difficult to talk about it before she knew we were her parents but what about after?I thought we have been bonding together for days now, so why didn't she say it? That they are having some activities at school an
    "Dad!" I ran toward him.But one of the cops stepped in front of me, blocking me from getting in contact with my father. "Ma’am, please stay back.""Step aside this right now!" I shouted, my fury boiling over. "Do you have any idea of what you’re doing!""We have a warrant for his arrest and any interference on your part could be considered as an obstruction of justice. So I will advise you to step aside, ma'am.” the cop stated firmly but I didn’t care.I still tried to move past him. "This is ridiculous! Show me the evidence that he actually did all these!" But the officer blocked my path again.Then another cop who seemed to be in a higher rank than those in front of me, approached me. He introduced himself as Thomas and gave me a paper.I glared at him angrily before snatching the paper from his grip. My hand trembled as I scanned the accusations written in it. I just couldn't believe any of it. My father would do no such.I shook my head.” This is all bullshit. He’ll not do some
    ~~~LANCE'S POV~~~It's been like four days now since Maya's father was arrested, and everything has spiraled into chaos faster than I could have imagined.For days now, Maya's family has been turned upside down. The reporters are even chasing her around, asking if she was aware of her father's activities.The media circus isn't helping either. Every time I turn on the TV or check my phone, there's another headline about A&R and Maya's father. The company's stock is in freefall and Maya's mother... God, she couldn't handle it all. She's in this same hospital now, three floors below and her body was giving in to the stress of watching her world crumble.No matter what anyone says, Maya still solely believes that her father is innocent.     ~~~MAYA'S POV~~~I picked up a pair of red high heels from the shoe rack, slipping them on carefully. Stepping in front of the full-length mirror, I smoothed down my sleek black dress, the fabric hugging my figure in all the right places. But something still felt incomplete.Then my gaze shifted to my reflection and landed on my loose waves cascading over my shoulders. I suddenly didn’t feel like letting my hair fall freely this morning. So I gathered it up and twisted the strands into a smooth, doughnut bun.Now satisfied with my look, I grabbed my phone and then grabbed my bag before heading outside my room. As I climbed down the stairs with my heels clicking harder, my eyes glued to my phone. My hand hovered on the chain on my neck as I read Lance's two-old message for the hundredth time:"I love you, Maya. Remember that. I would never do anything to hurt you."He had sent this message to me and also sent the necklace. Those two things has been something that has been cheering me

And now, I’m soaring through the skies, traveling the world around free…”A deep, frustrated sigh came through the speaker. “Kingsley, enough of this nonsense. Come back home. You have responsibilities!”Kingsley hummed in amusement. “Responsibilities? Oh, you mean the empire? Don’t worry about that. I'm sure you have everything under control… just like you always have.”His father sighed heavily, realizing that Kingsley had made up his mind.“Okay, I’ve given you my blessings. You are free to do whatever you want. Even if you want to hold a grand wedding with him, I will organize it right away. So come back.”Kingsley smiled. “Really?”“Yes, I will do it. I blinked. “You’re quitting? Why?”Then Diana hesitated, her eyes darting toward Lance, who was on the ground, for a brief second before looking down. I could see something like embarrassment on her face.“I… I just think it’s best if I go.”I frowned. “No, that’s not a real answer. I asked why you suddenly want to leave. You told your fans and everyone that you were volunteering for six months, and you’ve hardly even spent two weeks. Now you’re leaving?”She smiled weakly. “Yes, that’s true. It’s just that I need to do some things for myself too. Please don’t take it personally. I actually came here to create a good impression on my fans, but now… I have realized many things…”Then she burst into tears, using her hand to wipe them away as they streamed down. I just watched with my mouth open.She then bowed her head. “I am truly sorry. Really, really sorry. I promise never to do that again. In fact, I will never cross your path again,” she said quickly.“Huh? Sorry about what? Why a

    The workshop was at the back of the orphanage's main building. It was a small house built for storing things, but Lance decided to make use of it as a workshop. Lance made small chairs and tables for the kids and he also made swings and so many things around here with the use of wood. They were all amazing. Had no idea he had that in him. But what I like most when he’s doing his job here is when he's shirtless and working. I giggled at the thought of that.I liked watching him cut the woods as he looked so hot during that time—his hair falling over his face as he rise and fall, picking things up. His abs. And sweat streaming down his well-chiseled body as he focused on his work… I loved it all.As I wanted to enter the workshop, I saw the flowers planted outside. So I walked closer and picked some, hanging around my hair and putting some behind my ears.Stepping inside, I saw Lance picking up a bottle of water from the freezer. He opened it and began to drink, turning around at th

    We were in the middle of gisting when a horrible wave of nausea hit me. It crawled up my throat like a monster trying to escape.I quickly covered my mouth, trying to hold it in, but it was like my stomach was flipping itself inside out.“Maya, are you alright? Should I get you some water?” Morgan asked in a concerned tone as she quickly stood up from the bed, trying to get some water.“No, it's fine,” I said, stopping her. “It's just something I have been feeling for a while now, but it's temporary.”Taking her seat back, she asked, “Are you sure you are alright now?”I nodded fast. “Yeah, yeah. I’m totally fine. I just—”But before I could finish my words, it happened again, and this time, it was stronger.I covered my mouth with one hand and used the other hand to hit my chest, trying to make it stop, but it wasn't stopping.“I think I need to call someone. You need to go to the hospital as you definitely don't seem okay.”Morgan turned again to call someone, but I wasn't able to h

    I listened as she slowly began to tell me how her mother-in-law and sister-in-laws were treating her the same way she and her mother had treated me when I was married to Lance. And she had two sister-in-laws. Twins.No matter what she did, it was never enough for the three of them. They insulted her for every single mistake, criticized her for every bad thing that happened to her husband—even if it was his job that had problems—and always made her feel like she wasn’t good enough. Every bad thing and misfortune that happened to her husband was blamed on her.“At first, I thought I could handle it." She continued. "That as long as I was good to them and made them happy, they would like me more and stop treating me like that,” she let out a bitter laugh. “So whenever they were angry, I would buy them expensive gifts like designer bags and shoes, just to appease them.And for a while, it worked. They smiled and all started acting nice. But then they always wanted more. But after sometim

    SIX MONTHS LATER ~~~MAYA’S POV~~~ Looking up into the sky, I used my hand to cover my eyes as the warm morning sun shone on me. Seeing the sky so clear and bright, I think today will be very, very great. Something good is going to happen. I smiled and then continued my work, which was spreading the freshly washed bedspread on the rope. It is a weekend thing for me—or should I say for every woman in this orphanage—and I like doing it as it gives me time to think, to breathe, and at the same time, to watch Bella while working. I wasn’t the only one washing the entire bedspread alone in this orphanage, as we had other women who were employed and those who also came to volunteer for a few days. Some even spent months with us, helping with the kids and other work in the orphanage. The orphanage was always lively and busy, especially in the mornings when all the kids woke up at the same time. It was filled with the sounds of children running down from each of their rooms, having morni

    The hall was quiet, filled with the soft murmurs of people talking in hushed voices. The only loud sounds were the occasional sniffle or the rustling of fabric as someone shifted uncomfortably in their seat.A few candles flickered near the large framed photo of Mia, casting shadows on her smiling face. It almost made it look as if she was watching us.But she wasn’t—she was right in front of all of us… in the coffin.I took a deep breath as I looked around from where I was standing. I just wished that this would end soon and that all these passing storms would go with it.There were few people here, as the burial was private. Maya’s parents were seated in the front row on the left side, with Bella sitting between them.Kingsley also came with Lysol.Henry was also here, but the monkey could be seen leaning against the wall at the back of the hall, arguing with his client. ~~~~LANCE'S POV~~~~I stood in front of the mirror, wearing my tie while also looking at Maya's figure on the bed. I sighed heavily as the black suit I was wearing felt heavier than it should.Maybe because today wasn’t just any other day but the day we were laying Mia to rest. And as much as I wanted to be strong, I couldn’t shake the weight pressing against my chest because Mia's death had caused a lot of damage to my family—both to Maya and to Bella.Maya had completely changed in ways I couldn't understand. It was as if she carried a guilt too heavy for her to bear, and she wouldn’t talk to me or anyone about it. If she wasn't sitting on the balcony and gazing out into empty space, she would be staring at or holding Mia’s picture, pressing it tightly to her chest as if letting go of it would mean letting go of Mia.And no matter what I did to bring her to her senses and make her understand that we were losing Bella, she just wouldn't come to her right mind. I am the one trying to
