*BRIANNE’S POV*

“Marcus?!” I whispered, the name slipping from my lips before I could stop it.

He stood tall, his dark hair rumpled by the wind, his eyes locked on me with a familiar intensity that sent a shiver down my spine. My pulse quickened, and for a moment, it felt like the world around me stopped. Everything else….the noise of students, Mary’s chatter—all faded into the background.

Mary followed my gaze, her face twisting in confusion. “Marcus?”

Her tone was sharp, catching onto the tension immediately.

My feet felt rooted to the ground, a thousand emotions crashing over me at once—anger, confusion, and even a flicker of something I didn’t want to admit. He wasn’t supposed to be here. He wasn’t supposed to be anywhere near me.

Marcus’s lips curved into a half smile, but there was something unreadable in his expression, something that made my stomach tighten. Slowly, he started walking towards us.
