The sun beat down over the grand hall in Lunarville's Alphahold, illuminating the eager faces of the gathered crowd. The air was alive with the hum of conversation and the occasional yip of excitement. Today was the day Thane, the new Alpha, would select his mate, the future Luna.

For weeks, the Lunarville clan had been abuzz with the news that the Alpha would be choosing a mate the old-fashioned way. This was a welcome development, as it gave every high-born Lupa a shot at being chosen. Whispers of excitement and speculation filled the air, and as the Lupas made their way into the premises, each accompanied either by her brother or mother, every one of them wondered if she would be the one to catch the Alpha's eye.

"I heard he's looking for someone with exceptional beauty," one lupa whispered to another as they waited for the proceedings to begin.

"Beauty?" replied her friend, "What use is beauty without brains? From what I heard, he's looking for a lupa that can help him govern th

Lylah lay on her bed, her mind a jumble of thoughts as the hours ticked by. She had locked herself in her room since Luna Poebele dismissed her from the sitting room just after the Alpha sent a summons to her parents. It was already dark, and they were yet to arrive. Lylah could only conclude that they would probably come in the morning. She sat up, looking about the room. It was definitely going to be a long night. What could she possibly do? And what plausible explanation would she come up with? Every scenario she thought of seemed flawed. She stood and paced back and forth, her mind working very fast. Should she run away? Lylah paused and listened. The household was quiet. She pulled a small bag out from her drawer and began to stuff a few things inside. Then she tied her hair in a bun and covered herself up in a cloak. Very gently, she opened her door, but as she did she saw a figure standing directly in front of her room. She let out a scream, and the bag dropped from her hand.

Lylah's eyes followed Alpha Asher as he left the room, her heart racing with fear. The two Councillors remained seated, their gazes fixed on Lylah with a mixture of curiosity and condemnation. Lylah's parents turned to her, their faces etched with worry and disappointment. "Lylah Darling, please," her mother begged, "tell us who did this to you. We can still fix this, we can still make it right."But Lylah shook her head, her eyes puffed and strained with tears. "I'm sorry, Mother. I really am. But I just can't."Her father's face darkened, his anger and frustration boiling over. "You're going to ruin our family's reputation, Lylah. You're going to bring shame and dishonour to our name. Is that what you want?"Lylah bit her lip, feeling a surge of resentment. Shame and dishonour - wasn't that all her father cared about? Wasn't that what had led her into this situation and in this forced marriage in the first place? Looking at her mother's face, however, Lylah felt a pang of guilt and

Thane stood before the mirror, resplendent in his traditional wedding attire, adjusting his intricately embroidered vest. Two serious-looking young wolves fussed over him, adjusting his clothes and combing out his hair. Their activities were interrupted as the door to the chambers flung open. Thane looked up with a mixture of surprise and annoyance at the sudden intrusion, but his face softened as Drena marched in, fully dressed in a beautifully patterned, flowing gown. "Well, you're going to miss your own wedding, this dressing is taking forever!" she exclaimed, her eyes shining with excitement, betraying the mock frown on her face.Thane smiled. "I would have had the eyes of the person that entered my chambers without permission like this, Drena. Be thankful that you're my most favourite person here."Drena chuckled. "That's soon going to change. On your return to this chamber tonight, you'll be back with a new favourite person!"Thane motioned to the men in the room, and with a qu

Lylah woke to the warmth of sunlight filtering through the trees. She stretched, feeling the stiffness in her body from the previous night's ordeal. As she sat up, she noticed the contents of the bag Shay brought scattered around her makeshift bed. A soft smile spread across her face. She stood up, brushing off the dirt and leaves from her clothes. The air was crisp, and the forest was alive with the sounds of birds chirping and leaves rustling. In the daylight, the forest didn't look as intimidating and scary as it had the previous night, instead, there was a calm and beautiful serenity all about it. Lylah poured out some water from the big water bottle and washed her face, then she began to tidy up the area. After that she ate a bit more food, then strolled around observing her environment. In keeping to her promise, Shay returned towards mid-morning, fragile and worn out from a lack of sleep and rest, another bag in her hand. "Lyl!" She called out, her eyes sparkling with a warm

Lylah walked on, her feet carrying her forward with a determination she didn't know she possessed. The sun beat down on her, relentless in its intensity, but she pressed on, undeterred. As the day wore on, the landscape around her changed, the dense forest giving way to rolling hills and verdant pastures. Now and then she would come across a deer or a stag, their cautious gazes lingering before they vanished into the underbrush. As the sun began to set, casting a golden glow over the landscape, Lylah finally paused, her body screaming for rest. She found a relatively flat spot under a sturdy oak tree, sheltered from the wind, and began to make herself comfortable for the night.Shay's provisions proved to be a lifesaver, as Lylah wrapped herself in the warm blankets and devoured a simple but satisfying meal. She lit one of the candles, the soft flame casting eerie shadows on the surrounding trees. From time to time gusts of winds would blow out the candle, plunging her into temporary

Lylah's eyes fluttered open, focusing on an unfamiliar ceiling above her. She tried to sit up, but a wave of dizziness washed over her, forcing her back onto the leather-padded bench. Her head throbbed with a dull ache, and her hands and feet felt heavy, as if paralysed by fatigue. As she struggled to regain her bearings, she took in her surroundings. She was in a small, enclosed space with dark, carpeted walls. The air was thick with the scent of leather and the faint tang of disinfectant. She saw two more rows of metal benches, each one padded with fine leather, and a series of metal handrails bolted to the walls. The motion of the space was what really caught her attention. It was a gentle rocking, a subtle swaying that made her stomach lurch. She felt like she was on a boat, but the scent of saltwater and seaweed was absent. Instead, she smelled gasoline and exhaust.Lylah's gaze darted around the space, trying to take in every detail. She suddenly became aware of four faces starin

The Mercedes Splinter van wound its way through the concrete roads of Manhattan, the towering skyscrapers of the Financial District giving way to the iconic neon lights of Times Square. The billboards and advertisements that lined the streets flashed by in a colorful blur: Coca-Cola, Nike, and Broadway shows vying for attention. The van turned onto a side street, the bright lights giving way to a more subdued, industrial landscape. The sounds of the city grew louder - the honking of horns, the chatter of pedestrians, and the wail of sirens in the distance. The van pulled up to a nondescript compound, surrounded by high walls and topped with razor wire. The sign above the entrance read "Janerad Foundation" in bold, metallic letters. The men emerged immediately the van was safely through the large gate, their faces illuminated by the faint glow of the compound's security lights.Carefully, they lifted Lylah's unconscious form from the van and carried her towards the entrance of the tower

The boardroom of the JANEERAD Foundation was situated on the first floor. It was a sleek, high-ceilinged space with floor-to-ceiling windows offering a stunning view of the New York skyline. The walls were adorned with polished wood panels, and the floor was covered in plush, dark gray carpeting. A large, elliptical table dominated the room, its surface made of gleaming silver-gray glass that reflected the light from the overhead LED fixtures.Around the table were about a dozen chairs, almost all of them occupied by people whose faces bore a mix of anticipation and professionalism. Among them was Dr. Peterson Ganner, tapping away on the apple laptop in front of him. The others, mostly fellow researchers and scientists, nodded quietly to one another as they conversed in quiet tones, glancing every now and then at the entrance door. The door swung open, and Justine strode in, his eyes flashing with a mix of irritation and determination. Kael followed closely behind, his gaze fixed on

The sight of Justine's figure in the open doorway made Lylah's heart sink, her alarm turning into terror as she realized that with this intrusion all her effort to convince Kael and make him see reason - which seemed to be working - might just be washed down the drain with Justine's sudden appearance. Justine took a few steps inside, his eyes scanning the room with an air of authority. Lylah stood up abruptly, a cold sweat breaking out on her forehead as Justine's gaze settled on her."What have you two been discussing?" Justine asked, his voice cold and detached.Lylah tried to brace herself, her voice firm despite the fear that threatened to overwhelm her. "What I discuss with my son is none of your business, Justine."Justine's smile was a thin, cruel line. "As long as you're in my house, it's very much my business.""Ha!" Lylah exclaimed, her eyes flashing with anger. "Your house?" She shrieked. "Like I asked to be locked up in this glorified prison! Why don't you call your guards

Lylah stood outside Kael's room, her hand hovering over the door handle as she gathered her thoughts. She still felt groggy and tired from the uneasy sleep she'd had the night before, however her conversation with Angela had sparked a determination within her. She took a deep breath, her resolve solidifying, and knocked on the door. The door swung open, and Kael stood before her in a bathrobe, wiping his damp hair with a towel. A warm smile spread across his face as he caught sight of her. "Mom." He beamed, "How are you? I stopped by your room last night to check on you, but there was no answer when I knocked."Lylah forced a smile. "Everything's fine, sweetheart. I was just out for a walk in the yard."Kael's eyes narrowed slightly, his gaze piercing as he searched her face. Despite her reassurance, the tension in her shoulders and the faint crease between her eyebrows betrayed her true emotions. "You look a bit troubled," he said, his voice gentle. "Do you want to come in and sit do

The sky above had darkened to a deep shade of indigo as Lylah spoke, and stars were beginning to twinkle like diamonds scattered across the canvas of the universe. The air had grown cooler, bringing back the scent of damp earth and the distant hint of rain. Angela stood facing Lylah, taking in the outlines of her face in the bright lights surrounding them, a lot of questions on her mind. She reached out and took Lylah's hand. It was soft and tender. Angela squeezed it gently, as though trying to convey her support and understanding without words."Well, what happened then? How did you manage?" She asked, keeping her voice as soft and encouraging as possible. "It wasn't easy at all," Lylah said, gazing down at her feet which was beginning to hurt. "Naturally my parents were summoned. It was a very uncomfortable scene. My mother was disappointed, yes, but wanted me to just say the truth so that she could find a way to help me. My father on the other hand, well, I think his anger was m

The pale sun was now dipping below the horizon, transforming the lawn into a warm, golden oasis. Sharp lights flickered to life all over the mansion, casting a gentle glow over the lush greenery and the delicate flowers waving up into the sky.Lylah stood watching them, her hands folded over her chest, and her eyes fixed on Angela's face as she pondered whether she could trust her. The fading light danced across Angela's features, illuminating her hazel eyes and bold smile. Lylah's heart swelled with a mix of emotions - fear, uncertainty, yet a deep longing for connection."My life has been a series of events that I never could have imagined," she began, blinking at the dahlias which were swaying lightly in the evening breeze. "You must know by now that I grew up among my kin, werewolves, that is?" She asked, turning to look intently at Angela, who nodded vigorously. "Well," she continued, averting her gaze once more, "I had only heard of other humans who weren't werewolves in storie

  • THE PROMISED SAVIOUR    Chapter 87 - Bonded in Empathy

The heavy rain that had been falling for most of the day had stopped at late afternoon, leaving behind a faint scent of wet earth and a sky that was slowly clearing. A weak sun had appeared in the sky, casting a pale glow over the mansion's lawn, where droplets of water clung to the blades of grass like tiny diamonds. The automated gate swung open to receive Angela as she walked in, stepping gingerly on the gravel path. As she approached the lawn, she spotted Lylah standing at the far end, strands of her long hair being blown into her face by the soft breeze that followed the rain. Lylah was gazing out absent-mindedly at the flowers that bloomed in soft hues of pink and yellow. There was a distant expression on her face as she looked at the flowers, as though she wasn't seeing them at all. Angela's heart swelled with a mix of curiosity and empathy as she drew closer to her. Her thoughts had been reeling from the conversation she had with Kael, all the while contemplating what he sai

Kael's expression was guarded, his eyes narrowing slightly as he shifted uncomfortably on the bed. The way the visit was unfolding was definitely different from the picture he'd had in his mind all day. He felt like he'd rather not talk about his mother, but Angela's expectant stare and the resolute twist of her lips conveyed to him that he had no choice. He heaved a sigh, and started. "My mom has her issues. Thing is, she can be a bit paranoid sometimes, most of the time, really," he said, his voice low and hesitant.Angela's gaze remained steady, her eyes locked on his. "Paranoid?" she repeated, her voice neutral. "In what way?" Kael looked up at the white ceiling, squinting his eyes at the lights becoming more pronounced in the room now that the rays of the sun was dying away. "Has to do with her history, and the circumstances surrounding my birth, I think. She's always been a bit...overprotective, I guess. And Father...Justine, he's just trying to keep us safe."He looked down t

NEW YORK The large laboratory on the second floor had seen increased activity over the course of the months. It had actually been converted into a state-of-the-art research facility, its sleek workstations and cutting-edge equipment a testament to Justine's commitment to his mission. The soft glow of the overhead lights lit up the place, though it was nothing compared to the brightness of the morning light filtering unobscured through the large large glass windows. Serious-faced technicians in white lab coats moved around the expanse of the room, each focused on his task. At the far end of the room, behind a small table sat Justine, his gaze steady on the laptop in front of him. Beside him sat Kael, eyes glued on the screen as well, taking in all he was doing. Occasionally Justine would explain and point out some things, while Kael would nod, his face set in the most intense concentration. This intense focus, however, was ruffled when towards midday the door opened and a petite-lo

"Roughly eighteen years ago, my brother, Ryker, the Alpha of Lunarville, died." Thane began, his voice echoing through the great hall. "Surely many of you sent your condolences when this happened, and some even came to console me in person. But the fact remains that most of you have been running with the narrative that he died from a horrible accident while hunting." Thane chuckled slightly, a dry, mirthful sound. Then he stretched out his right hand and picked up one of the silver bullets sitting idly in the tray in front of him and held it up. The room was silent, the Alphas' eyes fixed on the bullet as if mesmerized."It was this bullet that killed my brother," he said, his voice low and measured, "Ryker met his death at this hands of this little object in my hand." The room erupted into a cacophony of shocked gasps, horrified whispers, and stunned silence.Alpha Asher's eyes widened in horror, his face pale. "How on earth did someone deep in the werewolf realm come to be shot wi
