"Are you sure you have got everything in there honey?" Luna heared her mom yell over the noise of the creaking sound of her travelling box against the stairs.
"Well...I think so." She finds herself in doubt. You can never be too sure. Last time she packed up for college, she ended up forgetting her sleep pillow, which lead to a painful week of sleepless night which only ended when her mom brought it over for her.
She would forever remain thankful for that.
One more week and she couldn't think of what might had happened.
With all the dressing stuffs in school and all. A good night sleep was just well needed.
"You shouldn't think so honey. You should know so." Her mom voice bounce on the walls of the room once more. "What about you Sandy honey?"
"Got everything and more, Mrs Hubert." The said person gives thumbs up, dragging a over loaded luggage bag after Luna.
"Okay. when you guys are gone be sure to look after each other. The moment you you notice any sign of the air plane crashing any time soon, grab a parachute and jump through any available window. Remember in every dier situation, the only thing that matters is your life. Anything else can come second." The tiny brunette woman rants, pacing back and forth in the living room her hand loosely hanging on her waist.
She looked like a blind bat caught up in daylight. Not very happy.
"You have said that a thousand times already Mrs Hubert." Sandy chuckles. Probably the only one of the two girls who found it funny.
"We know and fully understand mom." Luna resists the urge to roll her eyes when the old woman gaze refused to leave her. Waiting for a reply.
"Why don't we do it like this instead. I will take a leave off office next month and we can all go on a vacation together. All cost on me."
"There is no way you are talking us out of this Mrs" Sandy crossed her hand over her bossom sturbonly.
"Besides it took us alot to win the game. I mean it was us out of millions of people. We can't just give up the spot." Luna added.
"I won't be able to talk you out of this one, can I?" Mrs Hubert sighed heavily. She had a very bad feeling in her guts about this vacation but what can she do when her own children won't listen to her.
"That's a no." They both replied in unison.
"Can't I go with you. I mean they must have some sort of parent/ guidance care option." She persuades.
"You don't have to worry Mrs Hubert. We will be fine. I promise." Sandra sends the worried woman a comforting smile.
She takes a nerve calming breath before speaking again. "Okay. If you say so. But take this just in case." She hands them a black, icy cold object one after the other. "It took me and Vanessa quite alot to acquire these, so look after them well."
Vanessa is Ssndy's mom. A single divorced parent. Just like the girls, the single moms have been best friends ever since early childhood. Maybe that's why the bond between them was as tight as family.
"The fuck mom." Luna groaned horrified. "You got a gun."
Not one, but two guns.
"Vanessa was too scared to hand it to you girls so she asked me to do it." Mrs ....nodded. "I think it's a good keep. Just in case of emergency."
"My mom did that?" Sandy asked in surprise. Vanessa has always been that kind neighbor down the streets that sends you a delicious box of chocolate muffins each time she bakes. Walking around with that soft smile on her face and always ready to give an helping hand to both allies and foes. All which made her easy to preys and very gullible.
God we are going on a vacation and not on a super hero mission. Luna couldn't help but think to herself.
"Mom––."
"If you are going to go on that vacation, then you are going to have to take these with you." Mrs Hubert states sternly. "It's the only way that I will be able to sleep at night. Been 2 percent sure that you girls are safe."
Just two percent. Yes. She can only be a hundred percent sure when they are next to her.
"If you say so Mrs Hubert." Sandy agreed, Luna merely giving a slight nod.
Her eyes shifting to the silver watch siting on her fair skin. "Shit, we are running late."
It's already 9:03 and their plane leaves at 10:00. With all the California traffic and all, they are definitely going to be late if they stay any longer.
"God please be safe." Ignoring the tight nuts forming in her stomach, she encased her girls in her signature bone melting hug. "Am sure you remember how to fire a gun. Just like your dad taught you."
"For sure mom." Luna nodded.
Her husband was a part of the military. Mind the word 'was.' That was before he died in an unknown mission. His dead body unable to be recorded from the war ground. Maybe mauled by a bomb or something like Luna has always thought. Back in the past, anytime he was back home he'd take the girls for gun training.
He'd always say that it is the most legit way one could protect one's self.
Advising the girls to be strong and brave. Just like he is. Before he died.
"Don't skip your meals, always brush your teeth before and after going to bed, and call me every second you get a chance. Atleast, twice a day." Her voice cracked as she resisted the urge to let go of the tears.
"We will Mrs Hubert." Sandy assured.
"Take care of each other will you." She'd let go some minutes later. More like the girls had managed to break out of her grasp. "Be safe."
"I love you mom."
"Love you Mrs Hubert."
She watched her girls slip past the door. The fire churning in her stomach spreading to her chest.
Why did they have to grow up so fast? Maybe they would have listened to her if they were just a little bit more tiny.
"I love you both too. More than you can ever imagine."
LUNA'S POV.The flight was very uneventful for Luna who slept through it all, contrasting to the lively Sandra who took this opportunity to update her travel blogs and post some pictures on her social media accounts. They'd taken a rest in a hotel for the night after the flight, the next morning, boarding the already awaiting cruise boat to the island. It was another boring moment for Luna, slightly worse than the first since she became sea sick half way through the journey. This week doesn't seem like a pretty good week to her. There was no dolphins jumping around, no sign of a whale. Hell, she wasn't even sure if she caught sight of a single fish. The moon was already up when they got to their destination. Luna having no strength left to admire the beautiful setting before her as she was lead to her room. One thing she knew was that she
"wow." A gasp escaped Luna's lips. Her eyes flipping through the page with each turn. The words caught in her mouth. "They are so....""Amazing right?" Salvador couldn't help but add."How did you? How did you make all these?" Her fingers runs on the surface of the note. Curving along the stream pattern of the map that spread across all corners of the white sheet. There was more than a thousand words to describe it but she could only settle for one.Damn."I travel a lot. Been a writer means the need of many inspirations." Salvador shrugged, silently cursing himself when Luna gave him a dumbfounded look.Anytime he told people about his profession they'd always scowl at him. That type of shit is for the ladies, they'd say.A light flashed in his face, drawing him back to reality. He blinked his eyes repeatedly u
The group of young adults settled for a bonfire when the sun goes down, immediately replaced by a blue glowing full moon. Not once in the whole of their existence had seen a moon as beautiful as this one before. It was like they landed in whole different planet entirely. This couldn't help but add to their excitement of exploring the island the next day.Mr Mickelson had explain everything they needed to know the day before, after dinner.Everything they needed was made available and stocked in the store room. They could also get a map if they want. The rest except Salvador and Belle couldn't care less."Allez." Paris yelled at the boys dragging over to the fire, a crate of beer. "Let's get this party started."As if on target, Jeff fished out a gigantic looking MP3 (MUSIC BOX.) "Had to bring this baby along."
Luna woke up the next morning with a black eye, the night before had been one hell of a night for her.She hardly slept, the feeling of been watched clouding her stomach with fear. She had stayed awake till early in the morning when the dread decipated. The group was supposed to leave at 8 am so she only had less than forty minutes to get ready. She managed to wash up and put on some clothes before Sandra arrived at her door.Luna was definitely not surprised that she looked normal. Definitely not like someone who is supposed to be having a hangover. It was something she was already accustomed to.While everytime after a party night Luna looked like a zombie freak, Sandra would always wake up like a ball of sunshine. Happy and ready to rock the day."Good morning." Sandra pushed her way into the room, dropping on Luna's bed."Mornin
She wanted to scream but her body ignored her command. Shaking violently at the nightmare of who was behind her.More of, what was behind her?Her gun.Fuck she should have kept it close to her just like her mom told her to.She felt her soul slip out of her body, the cool breeze carrying a sweet soft ballad. Is this how she dies?"Luna." Her eyes tears up at the voice, her body wipping around to meet a worried Salvador. "God are you okay?"She threw the Mexican boy a dirty look, hiccups slipping past her lips. "You..." Hiccup."Scared." Hiccup."Me." Hiccup."Sorry. I didn't mean to." Salvador said softly, staring intently at Luna who looked like she was about to burst into tears anytime soon. She looked scared. Scared out of her wits.
Salvador had shielded Luna's sight with his chest all these while, but it wasn't enough to down out the cries and agony that fills the air.Luna slowly moves away from her savior when it all turns silent. Bile rising up her throat when she caught sight of the now blood red river.Salvador rubs on her back, holding her hair back while threw her lungs out.The teeth monsters were gone. The river flowing normally. Nothing out of the ordinary except for the new colour.Jeff was still on the ground, the exact spot he had been sitting all along. Unlike Luna he had watched the whole scene play. Replaying it over and over in his head.It was only when he saw a bloody finger drifting on the surface of the water that it hit him.Dahlia was dead. The nice asian girl who had helped him out with unloading his stuff the first day he came.
They woke up early morning the next day. Gloomy and dull.Thankfully they didn't get attacked in the middle of the night. They tried their phones once more. It was the same as before. No network. Leaving them to the hope that someone would notice the cut off in connection and send a rescue team over.Luna who was stuffed in Sandra's embrace the night before slept with two eyes closed. She hadn't had a good night sleep for two days which made her fall asleep the moment she closed her eyes.One. Because she couldn't control her mind.Two. Sandra was watching over her which was enough of an assurance. The group had a quick breakfast then set out. They didn't need a map since they were sure they remember the path back to the resort. They walked for hours and hours, the dew dispersed and the sun came up.
"I think it's.....ahh..." Something grabbed on Mia's right foot, her form crashing to the ground as it draws her away from the others. "Ah...a...a...""Mia." Sandra rushed after her, holding onto her hand while pulling against the invisible force. "Wei....Nash.....help....""Fuck....fuck...fuck...." It took some seconds for Wei's brain to process the information, staring at first until Sandra's panicked voice hit him.He quickly ranto them. fishing out a pocket blade from his pant, he repeatedly strucked the vine with the sharp blade, setting Mia free from it clutches. It found them....No....it had gotten to them."We have to go––now." Nash yelled at the seperated three, about to turn around when Wei let out a loud scream. The needle-like sharp vine pierce through his palm like a hook. Thick, red blood sipping pas
