ETHAN

I was in an old empty building. The pitch darkness made me wonder if I still had eyes. I brought my hands to my face and felt my eyes; they were there, but I wasn't seeing anything. The darkness was like nothing I had ever seen.

I found it difficult to say just what was the most horrifying thing for me. Was it the absolute darkness? Was it the fact that my heart wouldn't stop pacing even though I had tried breathing deep and steady? Or was it the fact that I tried shouting, but no word could come out? All these and more were making me question everything and I have never wanted to cry so much as I did now. At least, if I could cry, I would hear my own voice and feel alive. Or just feel something other than fear.

Then I heard a sound. No, it was nothing, I said to myself. It sounded no more than a few stealthy footsteps, but I knew it was more than that even though I tried to tell myself otherwise. I started breathing loudly, at least that was the one sound I could make. I bega

TYLER You know what? To a certain extent, I liked the house especially because its duplex structure was done in a rather peculiar way. It had two large spiral staircases with mahogany railings that led to the top of the floor of the house. While it was well in the middle of nowhere and had Grandpa freaking out because the compound was ‘wild' and unkempt— knee-high grasses had taken over the entire backyard, I still liked the mansion. I mean, it was beautiful— way more ‘attractive’ and expensive-looking than the one we lived in and that was funny since this belonged to Grandma. I could only wonder why Grandma called it a little cabin. This was nothing like any cabin I had ever seen. It was a mansion and I couldn't understand why my grandparents had never told me about this place. I settled onto a cushion next to the fireplace, which Grandpa had already stocked with short logs of dry wood that crackled and popped as they burned. The warmth was especially welcome tonight; even werewo

ADA Sitting at the large dining table, surrounded by my family and, well, strangers, I couldn't help but notice my father pulling Tyler aside for a private conversation. Despite their attempts at speaking in hushed tones, my heightened senses allowed me to hear every word being exchanged between them. As much as I tried to ignore the conversation, my curiosity got the best of me and I found myself eavesdropping. I couldn't help but feel conflicted; on one hand, Tyler had been nothing but a complete gentleman, but on the other, my father was quite protective and guarded when it came to his family. Particularly, when it came to me. “How are you feeling?” Mum said, looking at me and Dad, who was now sitting at the table. “I'm fine,” I let out. “You know what, Mum? I will like to take a look around the cabin. Seems really big.” I went out first, wanting to view the cabin from the front. As I stood before what, compared to my little height, appeared to be a towering structure, I could

TYLER When I close my eyes, I can hear Johnny saying, “It’s your fault, Ty. You always end things just before it gets serious.”Can I blame him? He wasn't lying.Today, as I sit in the backyard alone, my thoughts and feelings are muddled by my previous romantic relationships. As I sit here with a heavy heart, I try to make sense of my feelings but find myself slipping deeper into this state of despair and loneliness that I have been in for quite a while. Want to know what's funny? I like to think that every time I think I've found true love, it's ripped away from me, leaving me with a broken heart and a sense of emptiness that I just can't seem to shake off.I love thinking about it all that way. It makes everything easier and uncomplicated. But in reality, that's not really true. I am the one who pushes them away. Yeah, it's me – I'm the problem.Susan, Stacy, Laurel, Windinya, and most recently, Enid...all of them were amazing women, each with their own unique qualities that drew m

ADA“Ada, get back,” Dad yelled as he pulled me behind him.The eerie silence that lingered in the compound was broken by the sudden intrusion of the Xiray. Its skin, an inky shade of black, was the very embodiment of darkness. Its eyes were like deep, empty pits, within which swirled an otherworldly energy that sent shivers down my spine. As I watched, my hands trembling, from a safe distance, Tyler and Johnny slowly came up to the Xiray. Their movements were slow but steady. Both of them had this grim determination as they approached the Xiray, their claws already out of their fingers. I stared at them in awe because in this moment, there didn't seem to be a foe they couldn't take down. However, the Xiray seemed fearless. If anything, it was excited for the fight to start. The Xiray was a formidable foe, with sharp claws that glinted menacingly in the dim light. I held my breath as I stared at it. But Tyler and John, from the way they acted, didn't seem like they were strangers to f

ETHANI was in the bookstore, enjoying some hot coffee. Yeah, just another day in the bookstore. As I sat there, coffee in my left hand, my mind wandered towards memories of Brent, and my heart instantly quickened its pace. You know what's funny? I always like to say I don't like him, but I find myself helplessly drawn to him.A few days ago, I saw that demonic face I previously saw at the Conans. Even to this day, I can't explain what I saw. Long story short, I called Brent, and like the noble soldier he was, he came, kissed me, and had me in his arms. Call me a kid or whatever, but I felt safe. Even though he didn't understand why I was so terrified, he told me that everything would be fine, and willingly, I believed.Brent, in my somewhat biased opinion, was the epitome of strength, exuding confidence in every move he made. His face, chiseled to perfection, held the promise of the world in his eyes, as if he could conquer anything that crossed his path. Yes, he was a carpenter, but

TYLER I walked along a pathway that led to the top of a nearby hill. As I looked around, it was as though I was suddenly transported to a realm of utter serenity and tranquility. I have always been one to sit back and enjoy watching the beauty of the world. The towering trees extended heavenward, like imposing giants commanding the attention of all who behold them. Their branches stretched out like arms beckoning me forward. The grandeur of the natural world left me awestruck, and a profound feeling of respect and admiration washed over me. The warm rays of the sun tenderly grazed my cheeks, while the gentle breeze brushed against my skin. I felt as if the world itself was embracing me and, of course, it received the same energy from me. Taking it all in, I gaped at everything I saw, taking in the beauty and splendor of my environment. My heart beat with gratitude for the beauty that surrounded me. The trees stood tall like magnificent monuments of life. Their trunks exhibited an un

ADA **Three Weeks Later**I found myself drifting in a dream, surrounded by a somewhat unreal landscape of white and shadow. It was an unusual feeling, like floating in an empty void, waiting for something to happen. And then, suddenly, a woman appeared before me.She was stunningly beautiful, with a face that glowed with an inexplicable intensity. Even though I knew it was a dream, I couldn't help but feel awestruck by her presence. It was as if she was imbued with a power beyond anything I had ever seen.“Ada,” she started, “I’m guessing you know who I am.”What the hell! It was at that moment I knew who was speaking. As I looked at her, I couldn't help but notice a striking resemblance to my mother -- the same gentle smile, the same kind eyes. It appeared somewhat comforting, but now that I knew who she was, I was beyond terrified. I didn't feel afraid, however. I guess I knew if she wanted to hurt me, she could. The woman's eyes locked with mine, and suddenly, everything changed.

TYLER “One more bastard and it's over,” Johnny said, exhaling. “Just one more. I hope it will just come out right now.”“Man, I feel you. The last one should have gotten here by now.”It had been days since we killed the nineteenth Xiray. We were all impatiently waiting for it to appear so that we can put all this behind us. As I sat on the porch of the cabin, with my best friend Johnny beside me, we chatted about everything, including the day that had been bestowed upon us. The birds were chirping, the sun was shining, and the sky was painted with breathtaking shades of blue.My attention was drawn to the magical ring on my finger. It wasn't the most beautiful piece of jewelry you would find, but it’s function was quite impressive. It contained a power that wasn’t like anything in our realm, and it would glow when one was close to a Xiray. It was the only thing that could lead us to the last Xiray if we ever had to go look for it. I gazed at the ring and marveled at how ordinary i

ETHAN****Three Weeks Later****Today was the day.It has been months and months of craziness. Ever since Ms Granger sent me to give Tyler that gift, my life has turned upside down. I mean, I have met great people but I wouldn't have minded meeting them under different circumstances. But, at least, it was all going to end now. Pascelina, as crazy as that hag was, had somehow made us believe that it wasn't such a ridiculous idea to go against Acelia. There were thousands and thousands of werewolves who would go against Acelia today. Pascelina had got weapon spelled by a witch that worked with the werewolves. Even more impressive, the witch has tracked Acelia to be deep in a forest a few kilometres from her.If everything went well, Acelia would die tonight, and if we were lucky, we would take down Alex, if he was with her. Now, all we had to do was take our weapons and go after her.Damn. I couldn't imagine actually being free of Acelia and th

ADAI think I've got it now. I think I understood why Mum told me that werewolves found the forest as a home. There was this peace and quiet that I got here, nothing else quite provided. "You know you're quite lucky, don't you?" Tyler said to me, speedily climbing up a tree, sitting comfortably on one of its big branches. Seeing him gesture for me to join, I ran up the tree, my immense speed and agility allowed me to climb really fast. As I drew closer to him, I questioned, "How so?"He pushed my hair behind my ear so it wouldn't cover my face. "Other werewolves go through serious pain when changing, and they have to change once a month unless they can't stay in their human form. But us Green Eyes, we're super lucky, aren't we?"I shook my head, making a funny face at him. "The one time I changed, well, let's just say I didn't feel very lucky. Tyler, it hurt like hell.""That's because

ETHANWhen I regained consciousness, I found myself in a huge water tank, and water was rushing in from two holes. As it stood, it was already up to my knees. "What are you doing?" I yelled out, screaming at the top of my voice. "Let me out. What's this about?"When Mrs Conan spoke, her voice was calm and gentle, her word spoken without haste, as though nothing was wrong. "Ethan, I'm not going to repeat myself, so don't bother wasting your time shouting. No one lives around here and you know it. If you want to get out, well, no one's stopping you."What the heck was wrong with this woman?"Mrs Conan, I can't transport myself out of here. I believe I told you this already. Please let me out."She didn't say anything. Not even a goddamn word.I kept screaming, at least, while I could because the water was already above my waistline. I kept shouting, banging and banging, but she didn't come to help.

ETHANThe day started well. And that made me feel really good because yesterday wasn't the best of days. Mrs Conan, being of the opinion that I might have to save all of us if Acelia proves to be too strong for us. Now, this didn't only make me so nervous because I didn't want to have that on my shoulders. Traveller or whatnot, I just wanted all this behind me.The good part was that she told me that there was no need to tell anyone about it so they wouldn't depend on me if things don't go well."Good morning," I muttered, joining Mum and Brent in the living room as they watched one of our favourite shows. "I see you both are watching it without me.""You know you sleep deeper than some bears," Mum quipped, her gaze still on the screen. "There is never any point to try waking you up."Brent drew closer to me, he and Mum exchanging glances before he spoke. "Uh… Ethan, I would like to take you somewhere next week.

ADA I had changed. I knew it and, if I was being honest, I didn't care. Right now, I was standing at the train station waiting for my parents to arrive. I just knew that they would have long faces when I saw them. You see, yesterday I told them about Pascelina’s decision. And like every person with a healthy cerebrum, they were utterly shaken and scared. Also, they thought Pascelina was ‘a stupid, conceited bitch.' Dad's words, not mine, though I couldn't agree more. Regardless of what they felt, for reasons I could never comprehend, the majority of werewolves worldwide were supportive of Pascelina's decision, even to the point that nearly every bloody werewolf in the world was going to join her. She told us to give her some weeks so she could track down every werewolf— or at least try— and make them support her ludicrous decision. The support she has gotten so far from the werewolf community made me begin to wonder if most of these werewolves had the brain of a dog because they

ETHANAfter the long exhausting monologue Pascelina gave— apart from the chanting dunces she brought with her— no one was happy. And we were quite exhausted. And quite broken. Don't get it wrong— we didn't have a plan. I mean, we did, but it was a bloody crazy one, but at least, it wasn't stupid and suicidal. Now, despite it being all my life has been about for months now, I couldn't say I was an expert in the supernatural business. Hell, I didn't even understand my own powers, but even I knew it was unimaginably stupid to fight someone who had conquered death.“This is just a mess,” Ada let out, frowning. “This old woman really believes we will take down Acelia by crowding her.”“She did talk about some weapons some witch would make for them,” I said, shrugging. “Who knows? Perhaps it might all work out.”Ada exhaled noisily before she spoke. “True, but I highly doubt it would be because of some fancy weapon they get from any witch. I mean, if this could be done, why hasn't she bee

TYLERIt is very hard to see someone take a bold but stupid step. It's even worse when such decisions affect you too.I knew people like Pascelina; tough as a nail but have minds that are so narrow they fail to see anything other than what they think is right. As of now, she was talking about how we would fight Acelia. How we would show them what we are made of.My goodness. This woman was leading us to our bloody deaths and they were all cheering for her as though she was some bloody hero."As some of you may already know, we have a witch of our own," Pascelina shouted out, her frail voice echoing in the forest. "This witch will help us create weapons that will aid us in winning this battle. But don't get it twisted, we are the ones doing the fighting. The gun doesn't win the battle; men do that." She took a pause, looking around her, pride brimming in her whole being. "The werewolf is the embodiment of utter impeccability. From the way we change, to our abilities, to our strengths—

ADA"When they said some people were coming to speak to us, I wasn't thinking fifty bloody werewolves," Ethan whispered to me, looking at the werewolves that had come to speak with us."Sixty-three, to be precise," I replied, leaning onto Ethan's arm for support. It was beyond comprehension why they insisted on gathering us in the middle of the woods. Absolutely bonkers, if you ask me."We have convened in this untamed wilderness for a reason," declared an old woman, her voice booming across the clearing. "Now that we are all present, it is time to commence this meeting."Apart from the old woman, who appeared to be the oldest werewolf, there were about eight other elderly ones; the rest were younger adults, mostly men, all appearing to be under the age of thirty-five.Darrel joined the woman in the middle of the circle we had now formed. "This woman here," he said, pointing to Clara, "and this young man," he let out, now pointing to me, "are the only ones amongst us who aren't werewo

ADABefore noon tomorrow, we would know what our fates will be. Of course, none of us have hopes high because we knew one thing quite well— the other werewolves will want to take matters into their own hands. Besides, how successful have we been? How close were we in finding a solution to the threat against our existence? But deep down in each and every one of us, we were aware that our way was the most effective in putting an end to whatever Acelia has planned for us. The predicament we faced was how to convey this to the others."Ada, did you reach out to Ethan?" Mrs. Conan enquired. "It's important that he arrives early because Clara seems to have more trust in him than in the rest of us.""Yes, I did," I assured her, settling into the brown rocking chair on the porch. "Please, don't concern yourself about it. He will definitely be there on time. He knows just how important this is."Tyler sat in silence just before me and I noticed he was quite at unease. "Tyler, spit it out," Mr
