“I have heard quite a few stories about you from my people, Lady Lavigne.”

The woman exuded the very image of a leader’s wife. From her poised gestures to her sophisticated appearance and refined way of speaking, she carried herself with an elegance that was almost regal. Rather than resembling the wife of a crime boss, she seemed more fittingly described as the empress of a grand empire..

Chateau offered a faint smile. “I hope they were good things, Madame Aurora,” she replied softly and politely. Aurora responded with a gracious smile. It seemed Chateau had learned much during her week-long stay at Rosemount.

“Since this is the first time I’ve met you, would it be all right if we chatted a bit in front of the ladies, Lady Lavigne?”

Chateau blinked, processing the question before responding. She wasn’t sure if there was an ulterior motive behind Aurora’s request to “chat,” but the woman’s warm and genuine smile dispelled her doubts.

The young woman, dressed in her sky-blue gown, nodd

Chateau hesitated, her tongue suddenly tied. “N-no, not quite, Madame.”“I’m pleased that Leonard is willing to open up to others again.” Chateau remained silent, puzzled by Aurora’s words. “You must know how difficult it is for Leonard to form meaningful relationships, even with his own teammates. Hearing that he brought a girl to this mansion felt like receiving good news. At least, by building positive connections, he won’t lose sight of the qualities his parents instilled in him.”Chateau fell quiet for a moment, her eyes fixed on Aurora’s face, now glowing with happiness as she spoke about Leonard’s past. Chateau grew curious—had Leonard been different before? Could he once have been warm and compassionate?“Madame Aurora...” Chateau began, unable to contain her curiosity. She had to address it directly, asking Leonard’s mother herself. “Was Leonard a good child?”Aurora met her gaze, her serene smile returning. “Yes, he was a very good child.” She began to walk, moving away from

It had been two days since her meeting with Aurora Levere and three days since Chateau last encountered Leonard Hugues. Not a moment passed without Leonard occupying her thoughts. Chateau was consumed by a nagging anxiety that she couldn't shake. She desperately wanted to see him. Yet, when she recalled her conversation with Aurora and the details the woman had shared about Leonard, she felt utterly at a loss for how to compose herself in front of him.“I’ve been thinking about Leonard so much it’s as if he’s taken up space in my heart and mind!” Chateau scoffed at herself, standing frozen in place. Was that true? Had Leonard truly claimed a space in her thoughts? She shook her head several times, trying to dismiss the absurd idea that had just crossed her mind. There was no way she would allow someone like him to occupy such a place in her. From any perspective, Leonard wasn’t the kind of man who could easily win her over.Especially considering the fact that Leonard wasn’t a good pe

“Gabriel Levere.”Chateau froze at the name. It made sense, though. Gabriel's name was as intimidating as the reputation of the group he led. Amber seemed to understand her reaction. After all, Gabriel’s name held weight even for someone like Chateau. But there wasn’t much she could do about it. Gabriel was her only source for reliable information about Leonard.“Ah... yes, I heard Monsieur Gabriel was a close friend of Leonard’s father. It’s not surprising he knows more about Leonard than Madame Aurora does,” Chateau remarked casually.“You think I’m nervous just hearing his name, or maybe it’s because I imagine him being a hundred times scarier than Leonard?”"Haha... I didn’t mean to suggest that.” Amber chuckled lightly. “No worries. It’s natural. I was the same way before,” Amber replied, getting up from her seat as if ready to leave. Before stepping away, she turned back to Chateau. “If you’re not ready to meet monsieur Gabriel, I know where you can go first.”Her words caught C

"La Ravenl?" Leonard Hugues repeated, his voice devoid of inflection, as though the name held no significance to him.Giraud, leaning lazily against the wall, gave a slow nod. His eyes flickered with unease as he exhaled a thin plume of smoke. “Troublesome,” he muttered, the word hanging heavily in the air.Leonard’s gaze was steady, his expression unreadable. “Define ‘troublesome,’” he said, his tone sharp enough to cut through Giraud’s attempt at nonchalance. The older man shifted uncomfortably but kept his smirk. “They’re not just a group of killers. They’re chaos incarnate. Gabriel must know that, yet he sends you. Strange, isn’t it?”Leonard said nothing, his silence more biting than any retort.Giraud continued, his voice tinged with mockery. “Handling La Ravenl isn’t something a lone hitman can do, even one like you. You’re not Gabriel’s prized puppet for nothing, but let’s not pretend you can—”“Speak plainly or leav

The tea was served, and the room securely locked until their conversation concluded. Chateau hesitated for a moment, unsure how to begin, but Beatrice, ever perceptive, broke the silence. “So... you’ve come here to learn about Leonard Hugues from his school days?” she asked. Chateau nodded. “Yes. I have some matters that require me to understand more about him from that time.” Beatrice leaned forward, her curiosity piqued. “And what is your connection to my former student?” she asked before Chateau could respond. The unexpected question caught Chateau off guard. She hesitated, her cheeks warming with discomfort. Finally, after a pause, she replied, “Let’s just say I’m his... girlfriend.” Beatrice nodded, seemingly pleased. “How wonderful! I always thought Leonard would remain... well, as he was.” “As he was?” Chateau repeated, curious about the ambiguity. “What do you mean, Madame Beatrice?”

Two days after the orders were issued, the day Leonard would execute Gabriel's directive finally arrived. After gathering intelligence and formulating a plan, Leonard set out for the headquarters of La Ravenl—not to form an alliance, but to seize leadership of the group. Based on Sance's information, La Ravenl's primary base was located in Port-de-Bouc.Leonard went alone, without any members of Lafleur, and certainly not Giraud. He figured the bearded man was still stung by Leonard's words from two days ago or had realized his tendency to criticize Leonard's methods was unnecessary for this mission. Either way, Leonard didn't care; Giraud was hardly someone he depended on.Driving himself, Leonard arrived at a bustling building marked by the presence of numerous luxury vehicles in its parking lot. It was Crowleyds Casino, the largest in Port-de-Bouc, and a well-known front for La Ravenl. However, Leonard knew better than to assume negotiations with La Ravenl would involve a simple ca

As the bell tolled twice, the fight began.Spectators, who had been scattered throughout the venue, crowded around to witness the clash between Leonard and the fighter sent by La Ravenl. While the outcome seemed predictable, the crowd grew more excited when the challenger managed to push Leonard back with a well-placed kick."Ugh..." Leonard groaned softly, his brows furrowing as his sharp gaze remained locked on his opponent's movements. The challenger attacked again, but Leonard, though slightly disadvantaged by the difference in physical strength, remained composed.A skilled fighter, Leonard excelled at reading his opponent's moves, crafting strategies that allowed him to incapacitate them efficiently, often without expending too much energy. His versatility in combat-whether armed or unarmed-was unmatched, and very few were aware of his vulnerabilities. Those who had discovered them rarely lived to tell the tale.Leonard's only weakness was his frail body and rapidly draining sta

“Leonard?” Chateau gasped in disbelief. It truly was Leonard Hugues standing before her—the man she had been observing from a distance, staggering unsteadily. Her decision to approach him proved correct, as the man who nearly collapsed was someone she knew well.“Chateau…” Leonard’s voice was low, tinged with surprise. He hadn’t expected to run into her here, especially not in his current disheveled state. Yet, as startled as he was, he assumed Chateau must be even more shocked—it was likely the first time she’d seen him so battered and covered in blood.“What happened to you?” Chateau asked, her face pale and her brow furrowed. Clearly uncomfortable at the sight of blood, she instinctively reached out to steady Leonard, preventing him from collapsing.Leonard brushed aside his exhaustion. His injuries didn’t seem important anymore—not when he could see Chateau standing before him, unharmed. Relief softened his features as he asked, “Are you alright?”His concern confused Chateau, who

Upon arriving in Paris, Leonard did not bother to rest at a hotel or apartment. He left such matters to Odette, while he readied himself in his car, heading toward a specific destination. There was something important Leonard needed to do in Paris—something only he could accomplish. Yet, beyond that, he also sought to greet someone he had not seen in a long time. Perhaps he missed them, or perhaps he merely wanted to ensure that the forcibly seized glory had not crumbled. The first stop on Leonard’s agenda was a five-star hotel with 23 floors. Without hesitation, he adjusted his black tuxedo and strode inside, his somber gaze commanding attention. He carried a small token of sorts, tucked neatly inside an unadorned light-brown paper bag.Leonard walked with unwavering confidence, never inquiring about the floor he sought. He had planned this day meticulously for over 24 years. Upon reaching the 11th floor, he proceeded directly to the room in question. The corridor was lined with guar

"Lady Chateau, would you like to browse some clothes? There’s a shop here with affordable yet high-quality outfits," Sophie offered enthusiastically. Chateau naturally nodded in agreement.Sophie clasped her hand, leading her to the store she had mentioned—a modest clothing shop across the street. The shop was quite busy, likely confirming Sophie’s claim. With its classic vintage ambiance, it wasn’t extravagant like a boutique but carried a charm reminiscent of Chateau’s hometown. Stepping inside, she felt a wave of nostalgia. They wandered through the relatively small store, exploring the assortment of clothes. The activity felt refreshing, providing a pleasant distraction. Situated in a French village, the shop predominantly carried French-inspired attire, adhering to a vintage theme featuring styles from before the 2000s.“Lady Chateau, try this on,” Sophie said, interrupting her companion’s quiet admiration of another section. Sophie held up a 90s-style yellow dress, adorned with

Chateau had no idea where Sophie was taking her. They arrived at a bustling place, the atmosphere slightly different from what Chateau was accustomed to. Their taxi stopped near an intersection, right in front of a moderately crowded eatery."You probably haven't had breakfast yet," Sophie remarked after paying for the taxi. Chateau didn't deny it. In truth, she'd been too excited preparing for this meeting to think about eating. They entered the establishment and headed upstairs."Having a meal while enjoying the city view from the second floor is quite pleasant," Sophie said with a casual smile. Chateau followed without a word, as this was her first time at such a place."Have you been here before?" Chateau asked as they settled into their seats.Sophie nodded. "I’m a local, Chateau.""Ah..." Leonard was no longer in Marseille. As he had stated earlier, he truly departed for his birthplace two days ago. That day, Chateau had been dropped off directly after Leonard finished preparing. Once he saw her home, he headed straight to the airport. And as promised, he took Odette with him.“He’s surprisingly obedient. I was only joking when I said she could be his mother,” Chateau muttered, combing through her hair. She laughed softly, amused by Leonard Hugues doing something she hadn’t imagined him capable of—obeying her suggestion to bring a doctor along.Moments later, Chateau sighed heavily. Propping her chin on her hand, she leaned closer to her reflection in her vanity mirror. Though two days had passed, her thoughts often drifted back to Leonard and the business he had in Paris.Surely, he might have had tasks or work to handle there. Yet, knowing Paris was the place where his troubles began, Chateau suspected Leonard had gone there to settle a score. The thought of this lef

Though she only stumbled back a few steps, the fury in his piercing gaze was unmistakable. "You dare forbid me from doing what I want?"Sophie knew all too well that once Louis lost his temper, calming him down would be nearly impossible. As always, she found herself unable to extinguish the fire of his wrath and instead became its outlet, culminating in a sharp slap across her face. The force sent Sophie sprawling against the sofa. Her cheek burned, her ears rang, and tears welled up in her eyes before falling freely. But Louis wasn’t done. Without hesitation, he hurled a glass vase, missing her head by inches. As she pulled away, they shared a tender kiss, a testament to their love.“You seem happy, Sophie. Did you accomplish your goal?” Louis asked once their lips parted. Sophie nodded enthusiastically, confirming his assumption.“You even came this early—were you that eager to tell me?”“No,” Sophie replied, resting her head on Louis’s broad chest and hugging him tighter. “I missed you, Louis. "Your fridge is stocked only with alcohol, yet your kitchen is fully equipped. Why is that?" Chateau asked, shifting the conversation. Leonard glanced at her, realizing for the first time how talkative she could be after spending more time together. It didn’t bother him, though. While Leonard generally disliked constant noise, Chateau’s voice was an exception. He found it oddly pleasant and always responded to her chatter, no matter the topic."Odette brought the cookware. She loves cooking, just like you," Leonard replied, causing Chateau to falter. Once again, Odette came up. She wasn’t sure if she was to blame for choosing the wrong topic or if Leonard intentionally mentioned Odette to provoke her. But knowing him, Chateau doubted it was deliberate."Seems like you’re very close to Odette," she said, focusing on stirring her pot, omitting the formal tone she usually used."I wouldn’t say we’re that close," Leonard replied evenly."Not close? Yet you made her your personal doctor."

Leonard awoke to a bright morning. The sunlight streamed through the large glass wall separating his bedroom from the balcony, illuminating the space with a warm glow. Though his eyes remained closed, the brightness was impossible to ignore, gently pulling him from his slumber. He inhaled deeply, as if his lungs were tasting fresh air for the first time in ages. His body felt lighter than the night before, a sign that proper care had brought improvement.Turning his head to the other side of the bed, Leonard’s senses sharpened. The spot that had been occupied by the sweet presence of a young woman last night was now cold and empty. Without hesitation, he got out of bed, moving through the apartment with measured urgency. He searched everywhere—bathroom, living area, kitchen—but found no sign of her.As he returned to the living room, the sound of the apartment door opening caught his attention. Standing there was Chateau, carrying bags filled with groceries. She froze momentarily, sta

Once she fully understood, her eyes widened. “Sleep together?” she repeated, her voice a mix of disbelief and accusation.“Yes.”“In the same bed?”“Yes,” Leonard replied, carefully observing Château’s expression. Was she really that opposed to the idea of sharing a bed with him? “We’re just sleeping. What are you imagining?”Château turned away, pressing her small hands over her mouth. Her heart was screaming, but instead of silencing it, she muffled her lips. No matter how loud her heart’s voice was, Leonard wouldn’t be able to hear it.“How can you say something like that so casually?” she asked, spinning back to face him.Leonard, his stormy gray eyes calm yet firm, sighed audibly. “Because that’s all it is, Château—just sleep,” he explained, hoping to curb her overreaction. “Besides, you must be tired after spending the entire day at the city park.”Leonard had a point.
