chapter 6

Julius's POV

The drive back home was quiet. After dad had just practically fixed my wedding I was still trying to process it .

I knew he was up to something but I could have never guessed this.

I didn't want to disrespect father by defying him or refusing this alliance, so I did not say anything.

"Vera is a beautiful and noble girl.

She'll be a great addition to our family" Dad said during our drive back home.

" This marriage will go great.

And once your finally married, I can give total control of the mafias to you"

He smiled down at me and I returned his gesture . I was fine with father's choice.

I really didn't care who I got married to but something about Vera did things to me that I couldn't understand. Ever since last night she has made room for herself in my thoughts. Her face had never left my mind and it was affecting my work. So many times during meetings I zoned out remembering the scene of the evening wind blowing against her hair. I needed to get a grip.

hen I was informed her dad wanted us to meet for a date I couldn't leave work for something so trivial, i sent Aldonis to go bring her here.

"Send her in" I said into the intercom after Carol had informed me about Vera's arrival.

" Leave us"

I told Aldonis after he bowed to me and he left.

I looked up to meet her black gaze on me.

I looked at her from her head to her toe and I couldn't look away.

She had on a black cropped hood, with sweat pants. She was really not dressed like many girls would to go on a date with me. She was dressed comfortably and It was the first time someone hadn't tried to impress me with their dressing, something about her simplicity amazed me, her slender waist was in full display. I had to tear my eyes away before I did something I'd regret.



My eyes fell on her lips as she bit her lower lip, it made my Adam's apple bobble

"Mrs Vladislav"

I spoke trying to ease the atmosphere and stop before I made a complete fool of myself. I stood up from my seat and started walking towards her, it would he fun to tease her a little

Vera's POV

"I can't get married to you"

I kept walking back,not breaking eye contact till my back hit the wall and he closed the distance between us. Towering over my petite frame he pinned me against the wall, playing his hands on each side of my body he trapped me between him and the wall.

My heart thundering.

"Your opinion doesn't matter here"

His deep,emotionless voice sent chills down my spine as our sudden closeness made my cheeks hot.

"I can't m-marry you and i won't if I don't want to"

I calmed myself and regained my composure as I stared him straight into his eyes but he didn't seem fazed by my sudden found confidence.

He chuckled and pulled away from me walking back to his table.

"Oh

You think you have a choice.

What my father says goes, you can go ahead but your dad has told you what could happen hasn't he?"

I stared at him in disbelief.

I was speechless

I had to choose between dad and Nina and my option was clear.

"Aldonis

Come in"

I heard Julius speak then the doors opened and Aldonis entered and looked at me with concern, I just then realized there were tears in my eyes and they had been falling.

"Take her home" he walked behind and took his seat at his desk

Aldonis walked up to me but I walked past him and left the office.

I didn't need his help.

I had broken my promise to Nina.

I couldn't fulfil my promise to my baby but in a way I couldn't let her marry someone like Julius.

I walked past Carol as I wiped my tears and she looked at me with pity.

The elevator door was about to close when Aldonis squeezed through and got in. We were going down and I sniffled trying to control myself. I closed my ees and took deep breaths, when I opened my eyes I saw a handkerchief in my face. I turned to see Aldonis holding it up to me. I accepted it and mouthed a thankyou .

By the time the elevator doors opened ,I had completely cleaned my tears and we walked through the lobby and out of the building.

"Thank you"

I gave him a small smile as I got I to the car and home closed the door before getting in beside me.

We arrived home and he helped me out again and once I stepped out the door opened and Nina came rushing out and as soon as she saw Aldonis she stopped and I thanked him as he drove away.

"So how did it go?"

Then it hit me.

Nina was expecting me and now

"Vera..." She shook me back to reality as I stared at her face.

"I-it didn't work

I-i had to choose dad.

Dad wants me to m-marry him Nina and I can't let our parents down"

I couldn't tell her everything that happened .

It's better she didn't know.

She dropped my hands and released me.

Then her demeanor changed

"Lier!

You never wanted me to be happy

You promised me Vera"

She started sobbing ad it broke my heart

"No Nina i-"

"No

Stay away from me!" She cut me off and ran inside.

She told me to stay away.

I broke down crying. I didn't mind the gardeners seeing me. I dropped to the floor and cried as the pain and the words played in repeat as I started hyperventilating and shaking but it wasn't enough to subside the pain I felt in my heart.
