CHAPTER 64

MIA

I hate it here, in a room that feels more like a beautifully decorated cage, tears silently carving paths down my cheeks. I'm thinking of Gabriel, of our child, the pieces of my heart I left behind, when Alpha Leo barges in like a storm ready to wreak havoc.

He tries to kiss me, and I resist with every fiber of my being. I'm not about to let him think he's got any right to me, not now, not ever. But Leo, he doesn't take rejection well. He gets furious, his eyes turning into slits of anger, and he starts spewing threats like they're going out of fashion.

"If you keep up with this act, I'll forget our deal and harm your child," he hisses, thinking he's got the upper hand.

That's when something inside me snaps. Fear turns into fiery anger, a protective instinct so strong it surprises even me. "If you lay a finger on my child, I'll make sure you don't see daybreak," I spit back, my voice ice-cold, my resolve iron-clad. "I'll kill you before I kill myself."
