Chapter 18

Mistress Valerie stood in front of her window, just staring out and watching as numerous people moved about. Some were women - carrying loads around, and the others were men - pushing carriages, children - assisting the elder ones. 

It was a peaceful morning - but not entirely for her. 

"Susan" she called and her personal maid came running to her. 

She had been arranging her jeweleries, but she abandoned them and ran to meet her Mistress.

"Yes, Mistress" she bowed.

"There are rumors of a new lady in the palace" she began levelly. "Who is she?" 

"Oh. I don't really know,Mistress. Nobody knows this lady's identity for now. And I'm sure she's not a palace maid because she's being given preferential treatments. And... I heard one more thing" the maid replied and paused, letting the suspense rush through her Mistress.

Yeah, Valerie had it and turned slightly to look at her 

"What is it?" She asked.
