Since their return from Mexico, Ben had recovered well and like he promised himself, he took his training more seriously. Especially his combat training and physical fitness.  He was still not allowed to carry guns but Derick had promised him that his speed at gun training would determine how soon he would get a gun.

With the whole team focused on cleaning up Rolph's army and investigating Jolanta's kidnap, Ben had too much time on his hands. With nothing to do, Ben spent his free time at a private shooting range owned by one of Rolph's socialite friends.

He wasn't going to the shooting range just because he was desperate to get his own gun. It was more than that.
