"What do you have in store for today?" I inquire of Kerry as she makes her way downstairs in pursuit of her cup of coffee in the morning.

You're here; I assumed you'd still be at Rory's. I was just about to text you.

"Don't be like that, Kerry. We discussed last night and …."

And you fucked up?

"No, I was going to add, and we decided that we're not going to put any strain on what we have; instead, we're just going to see each other when we can, with no strings attached and no pressure," the speaker said. "No strings, no pressure."

Kerry frowns as she looks up from the coffee machine and glances around the room. "Like you can even do that," they said.

I sit up straight and wonder why she has the impression that I can't. Why shouldn't it?

"Darcy, you won't be able to handle him if there are other ladies around."

"I won't know who he's with," he responded.

She shows some form of agreement by nodding her head, but her expression suggests that she is not really convinced. "Ok," she respond

Because we have an early start tomorrow, I want to make the most of my time with Rory tonight before we have to part ways. Again, he is only partially clothed when I enter the room because he has just stepped out of the shower."Do you always stroll around half-naked?" I ask. Not that I'm going to complain about it.He shows a grin. "Yeah, I despise having to wear tops. Ever since I was a kid, even my father often went shirtless." I must just have heated blood.”As I get closer to him, I put my hands on his bare shoulders and rub them together. Oh, I'm not complaining; I was just interested as to whether or not you do that to attract women or whether it's just something you do when you're by yourself. You can always find me in my house dressed only in my underwear, regardless of whether or not there is a woman present. After he has prepared some beverages for us, we enter his lounge to have them. His living room is neat, unlike the one I have at home. However, he does not have a toy t

Rory has just completed the farewell. When I arrived at work this morning, Kerry's bags were already packed, and she was ready to leave; she didn't want to hang around any longer than necessary. When I saw him heading to the cottage with my top in his hand, his mother's car was still parked in front of his house. He immediately pokes his head in through the door when he sees me. "I suppose this is yours," he says as he hands the top to me. Even though I'm still wearing his, I don't intend to return it to him. As he moves farther into the cottage, Kerry gives him the evil eye while simultaneously beginning to take the luggage to the car without speaking to any of us."Has your mother been able to relax?" I ask.He gives you a grin while rolling his eyes. "Nope, but she will get over that because all she wanted was grandchildren," you said. "Nope."Didn't you tell this hussy that she already has a grandchild waiting for her? "Well, that's a bummer."He is laughing and shaking his head a

It's hard to believe that Friday the 18th is already here. This weekend will be a lot of fun since I visit Rory tonight, and I will have him until late Saturday night. After that, Saika, Kerry, Ben and I will travel to Liverpool in the evening. My son, who is two years old and went to his father's place twenty minutes ago, is making me rush around the house tidying up after him right now. In addition, I need to prepare myself, as Rory just called and informed me that he was about thirty minutes away. Kiran tried to linger, but I convinced him to leave the house. He persisted in asking when we would go out again, but the month he wanted to go out had already passed, and I had not changed my mind about my decision.I can't remember the last time I felt this thrilled about something, and the door was about to open. My farmer has arrived, and I couldn't be happier if I were a pig in shite.I haven't had direct eye contact with him for the past five weeks, so when I finally do, I greet him

  • THE GREAT ARRANGEMENT   CHAPTER FORTY SEVEN

I say goodbye to Rory and almost immediately feel sad and lonely since he is no longer in my life. This is an unfamiliar emotion for me because I have always been fiercely independent and the kind of woman who has never been defined by a relationship with a man.I yawned and suddenly became aware of how exhausted I was from trying to fit everything in with him. When I return to the house, I first head to the master bedroom and try to get a few hours of sleep. I felt I could sleep for a week straight, yet I had only set my alarm for two hours. That gives me an hour to get ready before the rest of the gang comes to fetch me before we go. Because we have reservations at a reasonably priced Premier Inn, all that is left is to unpack our belongings before we can get going."Are we prepared to deal with this?" As I get inside the car, I ask the question. Ben is behind the wheel, while Saika is sitting in the passenger seat next to him. Kerry is standing behind us here with me. Everyone laug

My other friends soon join us, and we make our way together to the after-party. I enjoy being on Tony's arm since it provides a pleasant sensation, and we have a wonderful rapport. I know he will feel let down when I check out this restaurant and head back to my hotel. I just can't do that to Rory, and I have no plans to let this go any farther than a night of flirtation and the occasional passionate embrace between us.As my friends get ready to go, he begs them to remain with him by saying, "Stay with me. I have the suit at a nice hotel.""I can't," I respond, even though, if I'm being completely candid with myself, the reason wasn't that I couldn't do it; rather, it was because I didn't want to. We've had a wonderful evening; however, he seems to be getting more full of himself these days, which is rather annoying. I have no idea why I agreed to this in the first place because I do not want him. I don't want anyone else, and if the only thing I ever got was to spend twenty-four hou

  • THE GREAT ARRANGEMENT   CHAPTER FORTY NINE

On the drive back to my house, I was harassed further about filing a report against Tony, but I didn't see sense in doing so because it would involve a great deal of bother and specifics for nothing. People spotted me in the club snogging him while I was dealing with him, and they thought I was enjoying the attention I was getting. Who would believe that a lady who had been all over him earlier in the night wouldn't be gagging for it? That's how I know these dickheads will get away with it. Who would believe that a woman who had been all over him earlier in the night wouldn't be gagging for it?Rory has also been messaging me; he's at some event at a farmers market today, so he's able to text more than he normally would. It's great to know that he cares; he represents the ideal man in many ways. It's no surprise that Jennifer wants to maintain her relationship with him because who could blame her? After the events of yesterday night, Kerry is brought to my house with me since I believ

I keep my mouth shut, and the three of us dine in complete quiet. Kiran foots the cost when the check arrives, and we get up and leave. It isn't until we are in the car that I feel this **** has to be beaten out of me. I don't care. If he finds out about Rory, my life will be much simpler."Kiran, please read this message.""Yeah, I'd think it's quite straightforward, wouldn't you say so?""It's a guy I've been seeing, but as you may have learned through Ben, our relationship isn't serious; I was kissing another guy over the weekend. Oh my gosh, I am beginning to sound like such a hoe because of this.He looks in my direction while he does so. "All right, if the glove fits." Bastard!"What the heck is going on? Are you upset with the fact that I'm seeing someone else?""I am fucking upset with you, Darcy! I thought we were going to give this a go!"You were seen kissing another person a few days ago. You stated that now was the time for us to take time for ourselves and become single.

  • THE GREAT ARRANGEMENT   CHAPTER FIFTY ONE

I don't understand. Not only did I never get women, but also, this was insane. There are a lot of questions that are going through my head right now. One of them is: Has she been playing a joke on me the whole time, and when she finally caught me, she ran away? Is she involved in a predicament of some kind? Is there something that Kiran has done? The last thing she mentioned was that he had found out; I have no idea if he's a psychopath or not! After making a few phone calls and sending her a few texts but not receiving a response from her, I am at a loss on what further I can do. As I lay in bed, my eyes are drawn to a little watermark on the ceiling of my bedroom. I have never paid attention to it in the past, but now it is driving me completely nuts. When the ten minutes are up, I have no choice but to get up and continue looking into the stain; I turn on my lamp and stand on the bed. There is a possibility that I have a leak, which is yet another issue that I will have to deal wi

In the third year..............It's the middle of July, and Rory and I have just gotten married on our land. The morning was beautiful, with the summer sun shining brightly, and the breeze carried the scent of fresh flowers from the fields all about us. The tent's thin planted trees provide the impression that you're still outdoors. It's better than my wildest expectations.Kerry exclaims, "Oh my my, what a lovely wedding," although she is currently in her own "wedding mood" after recently becoming engaged to her fiancé of two years, Liam. We all agree that the two belong together because they are so cute. Kerry could not have found a better match for herself. He is hilarious, kind, and forthright. I dare not watch as Rory attempts to pin down the man. I shuffle up the stairs toward the knife, which is shining there. Upon hearing the approaching police sirens, I look up to see Rory on top of the man, pounding him. Blood is splattered everywhere, and it's unclear whether it's Rory's or the other man's.I haven't even had time to take in my surroundings before a police officer starts shouting at me. Can I check on you? Do you have any wounds? It's just fine, I keep repeating to myself. Upon being helped to my feet, I discovered my leg was bleeding; I must have caught it on something during my fall. The man is handcuffed, and a cop has his knee in Rory's back as they lie on the ground. "Rory! Is he alright? When the police arrive, I yell at them. I next turn my attention to the vehicle in which Lucas is riding. I hoped he hadn't seen anything when it took me to place him in the car till the police arrived (which felt like an eternity). He's sleeping when I arrive at the car, so I

Kiran appears to have calmed down after hearing the divorce news; I've initiated the process, and he seems content with it; nevertheless, we must wait two years after the divorce is finalized before we can formally apply for anything; at least he is aware of this delay. Three weeks from now is Christmas, and if he wants to participate in all the festivities Lucas will be hosting, he will need to be near Rory. I want him to hang out with Rory to show Kiran what a decent person Rory is; Rory is a good person; he doesn't want any harm to come to Kiran, and that's why I like him so much. The old house is still not far enough along for Rory to be staying there, so he's been spending most nights at mine instead while it's chilly outside. Even while he insists everything is great, the last time I was over there a few weeks back, the temperature was so low that his tap had frozen. What would you like for breakfast, big man?His eyes fall on Lucas.Lucas yells, "Eggs." The doorbell's ringing jolts me from my restful slumber. Getting awakened is the worst, especially if you're in the middle of a fantastic dream. I'm shocked to see Kiran standing there as I open the door. When he stands with his fists on his hips and his nostrils flared, it's clear he's not happy. He seemed to have gotten out of bed and come here straight away. You don't look nice!" As we enter the house, I invite him in. As in, "What do you want this early?""You've got my undivided attention because I need to know your rationale for entrusting my youngster to your lover.I turn around to face him, and while he looks me over, I zip up my robe. Please excuse me, I had to go for a while, but Rory was here, so it wasn't a problem.Kiran exclaims, "You bet it is a fucking issue."Really? I have to shake my head to believe it. You are being an idiot about this, I tell you."Oh, I'm being a dick. I think you're violating the rules you made," I lied."Kiran, I have been with Rory for a very

Things are starting to get renovated. Rory is seldom seen outside the house, and Lucas thoroughly enjoys his frequent visits. Though I haven't gone into details, Lucas knows that Rory's house will eventually be his permanent residence, and he seems fine. In the room Rory eventually settled on, he guided Rory through deciding where to put up bookcases and where to set up the bed. Despite my efforts to discourage him, Lucas will not stop brooding over the empty stable until he has a horse.I must leave now, as Saika is visiting for the weekend, and I have planned a girls' night with Kerry. Rory is off doing something with one of the guys he works with, while Lucas is with Kiran. When asked, "Hey, where are you going tonight?" Inquiring as he wraps his arms around me from behind, Rory is like having his own hot blanket. There is no plan other than "meal than a couple bars."He leans his head back on my shoulder as I massage his face. We're curious, "How about you?" I ask.I just don't fe

  • THE GREAT ARRANGEMENT   CHAPTER EIGHTY TWO

After nine months of worry and stress, Rory has finally been able to sell the property. He finally takes possession of his new home today. He chose a shabby old house that would take him a decade to restore to living conditions.'Come on, Darcy, hurry up. I can't wait to see it,' he calls up the stairs. I have never seen him so impatient as now, so I'd better be ready. I find it hard to share his enthusiasm for his idea; to me, it seems like a complete and utter failure.About five minutes later, he leaves the main road and drives onto the property. It's just as horrible as I feared, yet he seems to notice something I'm missing. Stopping in front of a yellow stone structure, he exclaims, "Wow, look at this." The building, as it turns out, has some quite remarkable original sash windows. "It's airtight, wired for electricity, and plumbed into a nearby stream for water, but it's missing the gas hookup."Do you feel up to the task at hand?I guess it's too late if I'm not," he says with

Rory shares Lucas's enthusiasm for opening presents, and the two of them have a great time giggling together on the floor.Rory says, "Happy birthday from me, big man," and as he hands him the gift he has so carefully wrapped, I can't help but be impressed. As Lucas opens his present, I see Rory's reaction.Lucas squeals, "A tractor!" as he jumps up and throws his tiny arms around Rory's massive shoulders. The question, "Do you like it?" As he breaks apart from Rory, I inquire. I can't help but grin at Rory, who seems completely taken aback by the kid's reaction.Lucas rips open the enormous tractor and runs off with it, leaving his other presents strewn over the floor. "I think he likes it," I say. After tucking him down (with his new tractor), Rory and I settle for a movie night together. The constant beeping of his phone seems to bother him.Someone asks, "Who's there?" I ask. He seems to be debating whether or not to tell me the truth. "What is it that you're trying to conceal?" I

We leave the restaurant and head to the local watering hole. By the time we sit down, the place is packed, and there are no available tables. Kiran is with Di, and I can't help but notice his glares; they're making me extremely uneasy and, judging by the furious expression on her face, I suppose Di has noticed as well. What's up? How are you doing? I inquire of Rory, who is still hushing up a bit. What about you?" Really, was that a huge surprise to you or what?"I know," I mutter, pouting my lip. "How can she not see that he's a dick?"Eventually, she'll learn that guys like that always fail. The combination of Kiran's intense gaze and embrace makes me very vulnerable, so I brush off Rory's advances. He notices and gives me a suspicious look; I lean in close to explain.
