At dawn, Ravena assembled a few of her warriors. Although it was still dark outside, the first light of the day was yet to break forth from the sky.
Using the advantage of the covering provided by the darkness. Ravena led through the thick forest. Pushing through branches and twigs, they finally got to the borders of Shadowfang Pack. With her warriors in tow, she squatted low behind the tall swaying grasses. In front of them the imposing gates of Shadowfang were firmly in place heavily guarded by sentries with keener senses and eyes. Her second-in-command, Ethan moved uncomfortably next to her. His eyes narrowed. “Ravena, we can't just go in without being seen.” Yes. They were a formidable team but that doesn't mean they'd throw caution to the wind. Then he continued. “We had a confrontation with them on the border the last time. To the best of my knowledge you have no idea where they house their prisoners.” Ravena took some time to reply. She was scanning and analyzing the entrance with her eyes fixed on it. Her instincts had been refined over years of combat and she was now not just looking, she was calculating. Then she reached behind her and took a small folded piece of paper out of her pocket with a calm that even Ethan found unsettling. Kneeling, she spread it out on the damp soil. A map was illuminated by the moon which was shining and brilliant. As Ethan and the other four warriors leaned closer their eyes darted over the crude drawings of the Shadowfang compound, their curiosity blazing. A thin winding path beneath the packhouse was traced by Ravena's finger. “I have a man on the inside,” she declared with assurance in her voice. “ I got this from him.” Ethans eyebrows raised. “An informant?” She nodded. “He claims that the dungeon is located underground, under the packhouse. We can get to the dungeon through an abandoned tunnel.” Ethan blew out a long breath. “So we will not pass through the gate?” Ravena glanced at him. “We will be dead before we make it through the gate.” As the realization set in they became silent for a while. Daemon, one of the warriors asked. “ Then where do we enter from?” Ravenas finger moved once more indicating a faint trail that sliced through the thick forest. “ Here, a secret route that takes one straight to the tunnel's entrance. We can sneak in undetected if we move swiftly and silently.” The warriors looked at each other and then nodded. Ravena folded the map and put it back in her pocket without saying another word. “Let's move. Time is not on our side,” she ordered. Their movements were as silent as shadows and they remained low. Passing through the forest, twigs snapped beneath their boots. They walked through the secret path for what seemed like an eternity. Finally they showed up before a huge hole in the ground that was partially obscured by thick roots and overgrown vines. Ravena took a look around. No patrols were visible. No, not yet. Then she faced her warriors. “Lukas, Daemon, remain here. Watch. As soon as something goes wrong, report back.” Nodding they moved back into the darkness while keeping an eye out for any movement. Then Ravena’s eyes reached the sky. The pack was illuminated by silver light from the moon. She inhaled deeply while whispering a silent prayer to the Goddess of the Moon. Then she entered the tunnels without hesitation. As they got in, darkness covered them. The tunnel smelled of filth and rot.Mold and something more vile, blood. Were mixed into every breath Ravena took. She didn't recoil. She'd been in worse situations. But the darkness was unsettling. Searching her jacket, she brought out a flashlight. As she turned it in, a bright light came through. Pushing the darkness away and illuminating their path. From the damp wall, she could see their shadows outlined on it. They caused the dust particles to float in the air. The slender corridor extended ahead, vanishing. Ethan stepped forward scowling. “It smells as though something died here.” Ravena gave him a stern look. “Remain attentive.” With a sigh he adjusted his sword in the sheath. As they proceeded farther into the tunnel their footsteps were barely audible above the stone. Ravena felt her senses sharpened and every muscle in her body tense. They were out of time. Selene's execution would be at dawn. They only had a few minutes. With every second that went by her anxiety increased and she moved swiftly. Just as they turned another corner they heard voices. Ravena stopped abruptly and signaled the others to do the same with a raised fist. With their bodies tense and their backs against the damp walls they complied, breathing shallowly. The sound of the voices was increasing. Then they heard footsteps . Two males. Ravena put out the flashlight leaving them completely in the dark. With caution she looked around and signaled the others to remain hidden. Ignorant of the intruders hiding in the shadows, two Shadowfang warriors were approaching the exit. One of the guards muttered. “ It's a shame, Luna Selene is about to be executed. The other person laughed. “What gives you such assurance that Rylan will do it? “She is a traitor. The penalty for that is death.” The other fighter snorted. “You seem so sure.” Their words were tinged with a mixture of curiosity and indifference bounced off the tunnel walls. Ravena's hand gripped her sword firmly. They needed to keep going, swiftly but Ravena and her warriors stayed motionless barely breathing as the warriors passed their hiding place utterly oblivious to the danger just inches away. Their voices trailed off as the two guards carried on. Ravena did not move until their footsteps were completely gone. She turned to Ethan and the other warriors. “Time is not on our side. Keep moving.” She took the lead once more, moving more quickly. Selene must not die. No. Another Luna will not be sacrificed, not when she is still alive.“I’m beginning to have doubts about this,” Ethan said, his voice laced with frustration. “We have been walking around without getting close.”With a soft crunch of her boots on the wet ground, Ravena continued to move. The air was heavy with the smell of mold and rot, and the rough, uneven tunnel walls closed in around them.Except for the distant sound of dripping water, the tunnel was strangely silent. Ethan let out a sharp sigh, his patience wearing thin. “This is taking longer than anticipated, Ravena. “What makes you think you have accurate information? The map. That we are not walking into a death trap.”Ravena halted mid-stride. And then turned around swiftly, glaring at him. “Ethan, stop whining like an old lady. I always trust my sources.”The doubt in Ethan's eyes persisted even after he raised his hands in surrender. “This place feels like a damn maze, I'm just saying that. What if we made a mistake?”Ravena gripped the flashlight more tightly. “We didn't”.Despite looking
Her spirit was bruised, her body shattered. However, despite the pain she persisted. She could hear the slow deliberate echo of footsteps. She didn't even flinch. Pleading with them will yield nothing positive. The result was the same: whether the warriors were there to drag her to her execution or the guards were there to torture her, it would definitely lead to death unless Ravena and the warriors she came with strikes fast. While she laid on the cold floor, a pair of feet in boots stood close to her. She quickly shut her eyes tight, trembling slightly.“Traitor,” a voice bellowed. Her arm was grabbed by a rough hand which pulled her off the ground. Her legs almost buckled under her as she was pulled to her feet, pain exploding through her body. She let out a sharp gasp, but she suppressed the pain to cry, not wanting to satisfy them. With the little ounce of strength left in her, she struggled against the man's hold but he held her tight.Writhing on the cold floor, he walked
The morning sun had begun to rise. As they ran through the tunnel, arrows wheezed past themThe lethal arrows were coming directly at her but she hardly noticed it before Ravena's blade caught it and knocked it away with a loud clang. Ravena's steady voice broke through the chaos. “ Take Luna Selene out while I hold them off!”Selene's feeble protests could hardly be heard as he lifted her over his shoulder. He tightened his hold and started to run. With Ravenas sword flashing as she repelled their relentless assailants the tunnel behind him shook with the intensity of the conflict. A dim gleam of daylight filtered through the gaps as the exit loomed ahead. Selene was breathing hard and Ethan could feel it against him. Her strength was rapidly going down. And then….an arrow sped by his ear and sank into a nearby rock. One of the warriors cried out, “They’re right behind us!”Ethan continued to run. He pushed through the exit and moved forward. Ethan was able to bring Selene out w
With his golden eyes fixed on the figures vanishing into the distance, Rylan stood at the riverbank breathing hard. Selene and Ethan were carried away from his grasp by the rushing waters. His claws dug into his palms as his hands clenched into fists. The injury Selene had caused on his arm was already healing, the pain subsiding as his werewolf blood did its thing. However, the anger and humiliation of being outmatched and outwitted were more intense than any injury. He'd been stabbed by her. She disobeyed him. She was now slipping away. No!She wouldn't go very far. He would look for her. He'd pull her back. And she would be sorry she ever believed she could get away from him!Rylan's body stiffened. His ears twitched when he heard a slight sound coming up closer. His senses were on high alert and he swirled to see what or who it was. The air was mixed with the blood. Ravena. " Don't you think we should put an end to this bloodshed?"Selene’s voice cut through the tense air of the pack clinic like a blade. The room smelled of blood and herbs, a bitter blend of violence and hopelessness. Around them, warriors moaned on thin cots, their injuries sutured hastily by the overworked healers.Rylan turned to her, jaw tight. “ You think surrendering to the Shadowfangs is the answer? ”Selene bristled. “ I never said surrender. I said peace. An alliance with Alpha Kieran could — ”“ No. ” His voice was sharp, final. “ I'll not bow to him. ”She clenched her fist. “ This isn't about pride, Rylan. Ravena and her rogues are growing bolder. They struck in broad daylight, right at our borders. We lost five warriors today! How many more will have to die before you see that we need allies?”Rylan’s golden eyes burned with defiance. “ We're strong enough. We do not need help from Kieran.”Selene inhaled deeply, forcing herself to stay calm. “ Strong enough to do what? Keep
Selene stood by the door, her heart pounding like a war drum. Her fingers hovered over the handle. She could still turn back, go upstairs, pretend she never considered this. Pretend she wasn’t about to betray Rylan’s trust. But wasn’t he the one betraying her? He'd dismissed her like she was nothing. Ignored her concerns. Left her alone. And now, Kieran was waiting because he had promised to help. And she couldn't turn down such an offer. Her breath came fast, uneven." Just go."Without a second thought, she stepped outside, the gentle breeze swayed by, brushing her cheeks lightly. But she was shaken by dread. One step. Then another. The darkness stretched before her, thick and endless.Selene hesitated at the edge of the porch, glancing back at the house. The warm gleam from the lanterns inside felt like a barrier between her and the path she was about to take.Rylan’s voice echoed in her mind." Promise me, Selene.”Her chest tightened. But she couldn’t ignore this. She couldn’t st
" Are you alright, Selene?"The moment the question left Kieran’s lips, her fear wavered. She had braced herself for accusations for suspicion , for something more sinister. But rather, his voice carried genuine concern.Selene swallowed, forcing a nod. “ I .. I’m fine. ”Kieran studied her for a bit longer before a small smirk spread across his face. “ You always were a terrible liar. ”she let out a shaky breath. “ I didn't come here for small talk, Kieran. ”His smirk faded. “ No, you didn't”Selene stepped forward, her fingers curling into fists. “ You said you knew how to stop the rogues. If that’s true, then tell me. We ca n’t keep losing warriors like this. ”Kieran crossed his arms, his expression darkening. “ I heard about the attack. Rylan’s pack took heavy losses. ”Selene’s stomach twisted. The memory of the pack clinic, the smell of blood, the pained groans of wounded warriors, it was all still fresh.“ We need a solution, ” she pressed. “ You said you know how to put a
“ Is the sacrifice ready? ”The question hung heavy in the air of the dimly lit chamber, spoken by an elder whose voice rasped with age andmalice.A circle of men sat around an obsidian table, their robes flowing like shadows. These weren't just any elders, they were the hidden rulers, the ones who held dominion over all the Alpha's. Their power was feared, their influence undeniable. Yet, the truth remained buried — no one knew the price of their reign. At the head of the table sat Elder Vulcan, his silver eyes gleamed under the flickering torchlight.“ The sacrifice must be made within three days, ” another elder urged. If we do not offer the Moonfire’s blood, we risk losing everything…our power, our control.”Murmurs of agreement rippled through the room.Elder Vulcan exhaled slowly, a cruel smile stretching across his face. “ There's no need for concern. I've already chosen the one . She bears the mark unknowingly.” “ Who's she? ” an Elder asked anxiously as excitement spread

“ Don't let me die, Moon Goddess.” Selene lay curled up on the cold, damp dungeon floor. Her voice was little more than a whisper. “ I am innocent! Please listen to me! I beg you.” She struggled to her feet and held the rusty iron bars in the dungeon. And began to shake it vigorously to attract attention. The silence was the only response she got. No hope of being saved by anyone. Nothing. The silence weighed more than the chains around her wrists and feet. She couldn't bear the agony tearing her apart. And in that moment, tears poured from her eyes. Not even the glowing light from the moon, which streamed into the dungeon, could lift her sadness away. Facing the window, the chains around her feet clinked as she moved. Her eyes, shimmering with tears, gazed at the moon. “Moon Goddess, save me. Take this agony from me.” The misery was oppressive and the air was heavy with the stench of decay and wet stone. With sobs wracking her body she fell to her knees. W
“ I have news from our spies in Shadowfang Pack Luna Ravena.”Tall and battleworn from years of fighting and bloodshed she was a powerful presence. She wore her dark hair in a tight braid with silver streaks at the edges and her skin was marred by scars that were evidence of her battle. She had fought countless battles and betrayals from people she had once trusted but she remained steadfast as ever. The young messenger knelt before her bowing his head respectfully. Even though he was only a boy he had a disciplined demeanor and a steady voice that matched the words he spoke. Ravena did not turn right away. She seemed to be looking for answers in the dancing flames as her eyes stayed fixed on the fire. It took a long drawn-out moment before she finally spoke. “Go on,” she uttered in a steady, composed tone. The boy took a deep breath and went on. “Luna Selene's death sentence is tomorrow. “ There was a sudden hush. Ravena's body was motionless despite the crackling fire. She r
“Don't let them kill me.” Raw and desperate, Selene's scream rang out through the tense room but it was met with silence. As she reached for Rylan she scampered across the chilly stone floor, her knees rubbing against the hard surface. As if he were her last hope for survival. Her shaking fingers gripped the hem of his pants. She cried in a raspy voice, “Please Ryan. Hear me out. How can you believe them without listening to me? I didn't do this. They all held their breath for a moment. The warriors on guard stiffened. With their robes gathering around them like shadows, the elders observed with dark amusement. The members of the pack stared at her accusingly, their judgment piercing her like a knife. Then Ryan moved. Not to drag her up. Not for her comfort. But to pull his leg away from her as if he was repulsed by her touch. With a gasp Selene's hands fell to the floor, empty. She raised her head, her eyes watering, looking for any trace of the man she had loved. Where was
The moment Selene stepped into the pack’s borders, the harsh words cut through the air.“ There she comes. ”“ Luna Selene, ” one of them said, his voice hard. “ By Alpha Rylan’s orders, you're under arrest. ”Fear grazed her skin as two warriors grabbed her arms roughly. And tying them behind her back.Selene’s breath hitched.“ What? ” she whispered , stunned. Before she could reply, they seized her arms.A rush of fear shot through her. “ Wait, what is this about? ” She struggled against their grip, but they held her firmly.“ You’ll find out soon enough, ” the second warrior said grimly. Her mind swirling. Was this because she left the pack without permission? Had Rylan returned and found her missing? Why is she been held against her wish?Fear nearly crippled her. She could barely move her legs. On their way, other warriors and pack members whispered, watching with wide eyes. The look of surprise spread through their faces. Some pointed at her, shaking their heads in pity. The
