KAEL.

“Who gave Adessa to you as a gift?” I asked.

I didn’t want to believe that anyone around me could have done this. But at this point, I knew everything was possible—even friends could be enemies in the shadow.

Was she abducted by someone from my pack and handed to Draco’s brother? Or was she taken by them the moment she stepped out of my border?

“Answer me!” My patience was running thin.

Instead of answering, Draco let out a sarcastic chuckle and shook his head. “Are we friends?”

I already knew what would come after this, and I was right. He would never tell me more.

“Why would I tell you? I’m not going to help you weed out the snakes in your prairie, Kael. Go figure it out yourself.”

I was so close to throwing another curse on his face, but I stopped myself. I didn’t want to add more to the arrogance in him. I would not let him laugh at me any more.

“Then, I guess my time is up here.” I patted my Delta’s back and turned around, heading toward the car.

KAEL.“Was she sad when I was in a coma?”“She was miserable.” Landon glanced at me and gave me a weak smile before turning his attention back to the road. “Her eyes were always puffy by morning, so I knew she was crying herself to sleep. But she would still do her duties, running the household and making decisions for the pack. She lost weight. The colors in her eyes were gone. She would smile, but not the same smile she carried before. She kept her agony to herself, but she made sure the surroundings looked happy. She added more flowers around the house and your room so when you wake up, the house wouldn’t look dull.”The flowers that Miranda said were Desiree’s doing. This was, of course, a lie, as since Adessa left, the house had never had any fresh flowers around. “And you know what’s funny? She would dress up every day in blue because that’s your favorite color. She wanted to look pleasant in your eyes once you wake up.”“And I told her to fuck off when I did,” I mumbled under m

MIRANDA. I was supposed to be at my friend’s housewarming party, but I had to cut short my presence because my incompetent mate failed his task again. Dexter had only one job—to eliminate Kael before he realized who was running the show in his life—but he couldn’t do it perfectly. I was getting frustrated. He was supposed to eliminate Kael and Landon in the accident that took Kael's memory. For some reason, Landon didn’t drive Kael that day, and poor Onald became the victim. But Kael survived. Again. This was not the first time Dexter staged an accident for him. Dexter also attempted to set fire to one of the warehouses he and Kael visited. Kael was in the middle of the warehouse and was far from the exits when the fire broke out, but someone noticed it right away before it reached an explosion. No one was harmed, and Kael didn’t get even a scratch.Today, again, he failed.Dexter made sure he had an excuse to stay behind and let Landon drive them to their deaths, but like a cat wit

DELTA LANDON.“Adessa is in danger.” Alpha Kael said, and I wanted to jump out of my seat. What the fuck happened to his statement: “I can’t trust anyone at the moment?” I wanted to laugh, but the seriousness on the Alpha’s face made me swallow my chuckle. I had no idea what he planned to do, as he didn’t tell me anything, but I guess I just had to wait and see. “What do you mean Adessa is in danger?” Dexter asked. “Where is she?”“I thought she left.” Desiree butted in, her arms crossed against her chest. “Did she accidentally trip on her own feet and land face down on the ground full of shattered glass so she looks so awful that she became a danger to herself?”“Enough, Desire…” Miranda cut her off, and Desiree just rolled her eyes before letting out a huff.Miranda then turned her attention to the Alpha. “Where is she? And why is she in danger?” She sounded so concerned that I wanted to laugh again. If anyone here didn’t like Luna Adessa, Miranda would be the first on the line.

MIRANDA. I couldn’t believe Kael’s revelation! How on earth did he find Adessa? And why did Alpha Draco not call me to inform me that Adessa had escaped him?I was not sure if Adessa knew or met Alpha Draco when she was kidnapped or if she was able to run away before she realized where she would be taken. So I had to be careful, as she might have told Kael about him. Even if I wanted to confront Alpha Draco, I knew I shouldn’t do it, as Kael might be watching him closely if Adessa dropped his name. This was getting messier! Everything was spiraling out of my control. If Dexter had driven with him to Bayson City instead of planning the failed car accident, then he could have known where he had taken Adessa. But he was stupid to think the car accident timing should be today.Aah!I was fuming mad, and even if Dexter wanted a word with me after we left Kael’s office, I pushed him away as I thought Landon would come out of the office and might realize we were talking or had gone off som

KAEL.After my conversation with Landon, I asked him to drive me to the center. I bought a new phone and called Rasmus. It took three transfers before I was finally able to catch him. "Holy shit! Is that you? Damn, Kael, I thought you're already dead." He began as soon as our lines connected. I chuckled. "What do you mean?""I haven't heard from you for a long time. The last time I called you, Dexter said you went out hunting. I called three times that day, and you were still out hunting. I called a week later and was given the same reason." He snickered. It must have been during the time I was in a coma. I wondered why they didn't tell my closest family about my condition. "I didn't know hunting has been your new favorite pastime." He continued. "I thought no one can beat fucking, especially when you have a Luna...""I need help." I cut him off. As much as I wanted to joke around with Rasmus, I had no more energy today. Not when I had many things in my head."Should I feel hurt?

KAEL.“I don’t know. I can’t remember anything about her, but…” I paused.“But?” she asked.“But I crave her.” I didn’t know why I let those words slip out. I couldn’t even admit that to myself, but for some reason, it flew out of my tongue as if it were the general truth. Desiree’s chest heaved as her nose flared. In just two steps, she was in front of me. Her hand flew and landed on my cheek. She slapped me hard, and it sting. But it didn’t break anything within me. It didn’t rattle my senses, unlike when we were younger, whenever she was fuming mad at me. So I knew this was the end of us.I didn’t want to hurt her, but I also didn’t want to shower her with words she would rather hear. “Shame on you, Kael! Adessa tricked you into marrying her once, and she’s doing it all over again! And you’re just letting her! Who knows, maybe the danger she's in is just a game she's playing to get your attention!" She stopped to take a deep breath, but then she continued. “Oh, how I wish she was

ADESSA.It had been a week since I got here, more than two weeks since I left Kael, but the sickening feeling of someone watching me all the time had never faded. Being grabbed in a place I considered home and safe was traumatizing, and ending up killing two people was a never-ending nightmare I was still trying to get away from. Most nights, I would wake up sweaty and shaking as they invaded my sleep. The men I killed would crawl up from the ground and reach for me with their bloody hands. I had no idea what I feared most lately: being found by Alpha Draco’s men or dying from my nightmares. Why did it all come to this? All because I let Kael into my life. I didn’t see anything wrong with loving him. And whatever I did as his Luna was all done with a good heart. I never took advantage of my position nor talked down to anyone like how Miranda had always made it seem. Miranda. I wished I could tell people how badly she treated me. But of course, no one would believe me. She was the s

ADESSA.“Kael…” I had no idea how I was able to speak as my throat felt dry.I felt like I would collapse—tired from all the running and shocked upon seeing him before me. Was I imagining things? But the warmth of the hands that went up to my arms and began rubbing them was real. I could feel him. “Did you sell me to Draco?” I asked him in a hoarse voice. I could say many other things, but I wanted to know if I was right that I was feeling relieved to see him. That he wasn’t the person behind the mess I was in.“What? Why would you think that?” He asked back, but before I could respond, he was already cursing. “Fuck!”My body was abruptly turned around, and I ended with my back slammed against the cold, rough wall. Kael pressed his body against mine with his hand resting on the wall beside my face and our foreheads touching each other’s. My eyes grew wider when I realized the position we were in. He was hovering over me, covering almost my whole body, and if you were looking from

ADESSA.My feet felt like they were gliding in the air as we walked out of the arena and were ushered into a coach that would drive us back to the palace. My brothers were in different cars, and I was the only one sharing this vehicle with the King. Despite my father’s dark expression, I couldn’t help but smile.“If you think I will allow Kael to finish the game…” he began. “Of course you will, Father!” I exclaimed sweetly, not letting my anger for him surface. I had to play smart if I wanted to make sure Kael stayed in the game. I slightly turned to face him, both hands clamped over his forearm. His gaze lingered on my hands before he tilted his head to meet my eyes. “He earned the right to be included, like all the other eleven dashing men out there. And if, in the end, he wins, then it means he is the rightful husband for your only daughter.” He scoffed before turning his gaze back to the front while my hands remained holding him. “A King will never resort to cheating and will

KAEL. “Kingdom of Absalom, welcome! Let the Royal Games begin!” The King’s voice roared around the arena, and the crowd applauded while goosebumps rose from my skin. This was it. There was no turning back.Never did I imagine I would be part of something I only read about while I was studying at the Alpha University. The other Alphas and I used to joke about this game. We wondered what the men had faced in the challenges and if they made it out alive. No one knew. As to what we’ve learned, they were not allowed to discuss it outside after the game was over. So, we joked about dragons and orcs and laughed about how we would decapitate their heads if we were there. But they didn’t look funny anymore. This was real life, and I had no idea what awaited me inside. All I knew was that we were asked to sign a non-disclosure agreement stating that none of the things that would transpire inside should be made public and a waiver that we entered of our own accord, knowing the possibilities of

ADESSA.“His second in command, Beta Landon Crawford of the IronCrest Pack.” The speaker continued, and I was left stunned.I was not able to stop my eyes from growing bigger this time, and Kael had seen that. A smirk tugged on his mouth as he stopped on the spot where he was to wait for his Beta. As soon as Landon was just a few feet from him, he began walking again while I was still trying to make sense of everything. Did Kael realize Dexter hated me? That taking him meant he would jeopardize him from winning? How was he able to fix everything in just a few days? Did he fly home to fix this and fly back here? How did he complete the registration for the games if he had been traveling? But how was he able to make Landon his Beta if he wasn’t home? There were too many questions in my head, and I knew I would never get an answer. But it certainly didn’t matter anymore. He was here, and Landon was acknowledged as his Beta. If there was anyone I could trust besides Kael, it was this m

ADESSA.Draco was kneeling before my father and me, while Beta Roman was on his left. Their heads were bowing down as if they were honorable knights. I heard him and his Beta acknowledge us, but I refused to respond to them.“Adessa, bestow him the pin of honor,” Father said in a low voice. My gaze tilted down, but I refused to budge.“Do you want to stay here longer than you should?” Father’s voice was calm, but I could feel the storm within. With a face devoid of any emotion, I turned to my right and took the pin handed to me by a consort. I pinned it on his shoulder without making any noise.“The code of blessing, Princess Adessa.” The consort beside me murmured, reminding me of what I was instructed to do and say for the ceremony.“I will never bless you, Alpha Draco. May you never make it to the end of the game.” I said in a voice just enough for us to hear, and I could tell my father was struggling not to lash out at me. But before anyone could force me to do my role, he had a

ADESSA. I had no idea what to feel once the result of my pregnancy came out. Negative. A part of me was grieving because Kael and I wanted to have a child, and another part was relieved that no other person I loved would be pushed into this messy life I had. But aside from that, nothing had changed.I threw all my doubts about Kael. Danielle was right. There are people worth taking risks for, and I would risk it all for Kael.If he turned out to be the bad man in the end, at least I had no one to blame but myself. Rather than turning my back on him and finding out they were all wrong about him.He might not be my husband anymore, but I remembered the vows I made to him in that car—for richer and for poorer, in sickness and health—I promised to honor and cherish him. I planned to keep the end of my vow, even if I didn’t have the ring anymore that we had that day, as I had taken it off and left it in the car when we attended the Moonlight Ball. I’d been longing to see Kael. The days

ADESSA. I whimpered softly before fluttering my lashes. The bright lights blinded me for a millisecond before I was able to open my eyes completely and found everyone staring at me—as if I were a subject on a petri dish. “Am I dead?” I asked. “Adessa!” The king hissed, and I closed my eyes immediately.“I’m sorry, Father. I just…”“Enough. We will talk about that in private. You need to be checked first.”I just nodded my head before opening my eyes. They assisted me into a sitting position before they checked my vitals. After a while, the physician said nothing was wrong, and it could only be pointed to exhaustion. He then asked the King if he wanted him to do sets of tests to check further.Even before he could answer, I had already blurted out my own question. “Can you check if I’m pregnant?”I knew I was being bold, but the earlier I could find out, the earlier I could plead to stop the Royal Games. “Do you think you are?” The King’s jaw tightened as he asked.“I’m already del

DANIELLE. Prince Esriel was approaching. As much as I wanted to walk away and pretend I didn’t see him, I couldn’t. I had my responsibilities as Princess Adessa’s handmaid and as a palace worker. So, I turned my body around and bowed my head in his direction. “What’s happening here?” he asked once he stopped before me and the guard outside the room. I tilted my head up and met his piercing gaze before replying. “The princess fainted your Royal Highness. I already requested for the family physician to come here.” He didn’t say anything and opened the door, stepping inside the princess’s suite, so I had no choice but to follow him.I walked faster than him, leading him to her bedroom. “She still hasn’t woken up.” I immediately checked her pulse and if she was breathing. “Do you mind helping me to position her correctly, sir? I can try carrying her, but I don’t want to hurt…”“Cut with the Sir crap, Dani.” He interrupted me, and then he chuckled. He walked toward the bed, and I cou

ADESSA.I made it back to my chamber and found Danielle there. She ushered me in and locked the main bedroom before guiding me to sit on the bed. “Are you okay, my lady?” She asked, and I could tell she was worrying about me, even if she knew she was in a greater mess than I was. “No,” I replied, letting out a big sigh. “I’m sorry that you don’t feel good, but I have to say this first because they can take me away from you any moment now.”“I won’t let that happen.”“Don’t worry about me, but listen, Princess Adessa. Under this mattress is my phone. It is safer here than in mine if they ever search my room for anything.”I nodded before I threw my arms to hug her. “I’m sorry I put you in trouble.”She rubbed my back and pulled away from my hug. “It’s okay. I want to help as much as I can.”“Did he message already?”“Not yet, when I placed it there a few minutes ago.” She replied. “He must not have the chance to do it yet.”“Do you think he loves me and not just because I’m a princes

ADESSA.“Did the accident really happen? Did he lose his memory, or was that an act to force divorce on you because he no longer wanted you?” Father asked all this in one breath. “But he changed his mind when he found out you could be of Royal blood.”“He had an accident! If you researched him, then it should be here!” My voice was higher, and my hand slammed on the folder as I fought my tears—everything he said kept piercing my heart. I could take anything. I could take the divorce talk. I could take looking at photos of him and Desiree embracing and laughing. But my heart couldn’t accept that he didn’t love me as he said. “It is here.” The King took out documents and pushed them in front of me. My eyes watered as I looked at the papers—some of them I was familiar with as they were handed to me while he was in a coma. All these documents were signed by Dr. Carlitos, the one who attended to him because Dr. Gideon was not around. “The doctor who saw and attended to him was not a leg
