*MIKAYLA’S POV*

-Day 5…..

My phone beeps at me in the morning, signaling that I have a text. When I turned around, Heron was not curled up next to me. Wiping the sleep from my eyes and sitting up on the bed, I clicked open the message.

Nikki: Morning Mika (smiley face), it's my day off today. Let's hang!

Thinking about it, I could use a good friend after the night that I had with Heron. Although my friendship with Nikki fluctuated.

Me: Sure Nikki, time and place?

Nikki: Carter's Shoppers' Fair around 2 pm.

Me: Okay. Sounds perfect.

I lay back down on the bed burying my face in the pillow and groaning.

Overall, Heron is not a bad guy. I think he's a wonderful person to be with if you're the one that he loves. Whatever this is between us, it did not blossom from love. I have to remember that all he has requested of me was to mainly provide an heir for him, and not to expect anything beyond that. Yet, he was not willing to have sex with me last night. Things were incontestably o

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 77 – CHARLOTTE'S PLEA

*HERON’S POV* Meanwhile at the meeting........ Here I was in the grand hall of the courtroom at the Elder’s Council building that was designated for detrimental matters concerning the pack. It was located five minutes from the pack house and close to the hospital. It is the main and largest room within the building. The structure has a medieval gothic appearance from the twelfth century. Rib vaulting with intersecting barrel vaults—arches positioned parallel to one another to support a rounded roof, higher ceilings, and taller windows. It has an impressive spire that dominates the skyline, stonework with ornate bar tracing, further sculpture, and slender pointed arches. The setting is similar to an actual courtroom. The room's tall walls are painted white, and there are war murals with the moon goddess leading wolves on them. The gallery is divided into two halves by rows of single chairs on either side of the room and a red carpet in between the rows. The kaleidoscope stained-gla

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 78 - VERDICT

*HERON’S POV* "Outrageous!" Charlotte screamed across the grand hall, her hazelnut eyes swiveled to meet mine and a sinister smirk broke on her poker face. I clicked my tongue twice and pointed a gunning finger at her. Fucking checkmate for the red-haired skank. Everyone’s jaws dropped a few inches. Dad was on the verge of losing his shit and growled. Mom stroked Dad's black hair while placing one palm on his heaving chest. Then an avalanche of murmurs permeates the room. Panic tumbles down on Charlotte, its poundage makes her body shake. She runs her hands through her hair a few times, then bites her cuticle, fretting. It was a mess that she left for me to clean up for the sake of my pack. And the same disaster does nothing more than self-destruct her life. "The evidence suggests otherwise, Charlotte," Elder Jasper held up the flash drive of the video that we watched, seeing her stealing the Mafia king's heirloom. "When I came here, I was naked." She lucidly denies the claim. "

*FORBES POV* “Let’s wrap up the meeting,” Elder Desmond announced, looking at the rest of the council, “We can reconvene again after Elder Silva undoes the soulless spell for Charlotte.” Grandpa Daniel nods in approval, “Heron will meet with Alpha Henley and they will discuss the mafia's current situation as well as whether or not we can obtain the necklace without Varla being our chosen Luna.” They spoke on but I zoned out. Even though I was in the courtroom to support my Alpha and best friend, my focus drifted multiple times to Semani. She looks amazing with pink-glossed lips and faint makeup. Today, her long curly tresses are in a French braid and roped under by an elastic band. The lemon basil and chamomile scent that she oozes interferes with my ability to maintain a level head. She donned a green floral mini dress with a ruched bust with the straps tied on the shoulder. It was well-faded. While she does not have huge breasts, they are perfect. My hands can cup them, and her

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 79 - TELL ME

*MIKAYLA’S POV* Day 6………… Heron was up later than the norm. The knobbly, cold bed led to insomniac hours until my body fell into an inexorable slumber. I'm not aware of what time he came home last night or in the bedroom. My planned confrontation to find out the truth about Charlotte was derailed by his absence. I was very heated with anger yesterday after Nikki said her piece. My wolf and I demanded honesty before I let any more rivers of heartache wash my face. What's happening between them? Am I just a toy that he is using to spite his mate? Keeping this from me could imply deceit. Is that why he refused to make love to me the night before? Because he wanted Charlotte and not me. What did they do when they were together? A myriad of questions flocked through my brain. The unruly sun called upon us to arise to commence the novelty of the day that it heralds. Not that I looked forward to the possibility of a hurtful truth. As usual, his left hand lays heavily across my waist an

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 80 - THE RITUAL

-HERON’S POV* Day 6 cont’d………… Silva's cookie-cutter cottage was on the other side of the pack. Her daughter Preya greeted us at the door. "Heron, what wind belt was it that blew you here today? The easterlies or the westerlies?" She exaggerated and did not allow us in. "Oh right, it's that dilemma you have with the Elders." "Open the damn door and let us in," I demanded, unamused. Her attention shifted to Sage and she blushed as he bewitchingly stared at her. They have a mind-linked conversation and she played with a lock of her hair. "Flirt on your own damn time," I snapped them back to reality. In two seconds the door would have been ripped from its hinges. Opening the door wider, Preya moved out of the way, and Forbes and I strolled in. Sage stops by the door to fraternize with the sky-blue-haired teenage witch. Since we knew the house well, we advanced to the sunroom around the back and into the cauldron room where Elder Silva does her witchcraft. The tinted screen of the

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 81 - BREAKING THE SPELL

*HERON’S POV* The mother and daughter witch duo commenced the ritual with incantations. Suddenly, the cauldron room was overcast with clouded darkness along with a strange sulphuric odor that transduced into the sunroom. Charlotte’s body stiffened as her back arched, her head pressed back, and her eyes rolled over, revealing one hundred percent sclera. The lighted candles’ flame amplified, blazing fiercely upward to almost touch the ceiling. Then a chilling sensation pervaded the room. Lightning came from the sky through the open glass ceiling panes of the sunroom. We ducked as the electric lights connected with the five points of the stone bed. Charlotte’s head flipped from left to right. Running green lights ran across her pale body. She gurgled and her fingers curled inwardly as her body reacted to the supernatural surgery of the spell. In order for the shards of her humanity to reappear, the ritual grazed her soul, patched the gaps, and was putting the pieces back together. “Th

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 82 - BETRAYAL

*MIKAYLA’S POV* Day 6 cont’d………… After breakfast, I went to the training ground to let some heat off. My wolf, Pixie, was acting up. Her aggression was protruding into me and I was snappy all day. I found myself being rude at the new Omega Mary-Jean and Amoy. Nothing could be penciled into my thoughts. Heron’s evasiveness rifled me. If Charlotte was in the past, why did he spend his recent days with her? He never brought up the Elder Council’s adjudication. Amoy claimed that Forbes and Sage were aware but would not disclose it to Axel so that he could inform her. You see, Axel relates to her, his Gamma Female mate, all relevant pack business, and she then informs me. Hence, keeping me updated while assisting me with my Luna obligations. “For the record, I will not go easy on you,” Amoy told me as we sparred. She extended her right hand and curled her fingers to beckon to me, “Attack me.” Amoy quickly sidestepped my punch and other blows as I lunged at her. A few minutes later, we

*MIKAYLA’S POV* Day 6 cont’d…………….. Charlotte sat in Heron's lap, lips locked and sucking on each other's faces. I stood there breathing but feeling dead inside. My whole world exploded. My heart felt ripped out and squashed as his hands roamed over her body in front of my eyes. Chest pains rippled through me. "Heron," I whispered his name, all other parts of the English language failed me. Even though I can't feel it, tears are welling up in my eyes and trickling down my cheeks. The risk taken to be with him had blown up in my face. Betrayal. The word swirls in my head and the hot temper of my wolf pulsates in my veins. My heart clenched in my chest. Pixie and I were utterly shocked, jealous, and furious. She wanted Charlotte’s blood. Finally, the kiss broke and they both looked at me. It was like we were the only three people in this house. Everything else was a black screen. Charlotte was clearly amused with a victorious smirk directed at me. "Mikayla?" He spits out my name,

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 132 - EPILOGUE

Four years later….. -HERON’S POV* "So listen up people," I will have no nonsense today and they better not argue over this. "Tonight is a special night for me and my woman." I was fucking serious about this. Mikayla and I have been so busy that we hardly spent enough time with each other. Tonight was arranged for us to have a romantic dinner at a resort. Mikayla promised me that we could have this night together. So I met with the people in our pack who have been closest to her and caused her the most trouble, to give them a piece of my mind. "Mikayla is lovable and we all adore her,” I get that she’s a blessing. After all, no one loved her more than I did. “BUT, tonight I need to have her for myself." I demanded, "I'm the Alpha and I'm laying down some ground rules for the both of you." I’m the luckiest man in the world to have her as my wife and these two have been trying to get in between what we have. The male scrunched his face and pouted his mouth, while the other smiled a

PART 2 - -PREYA’S POV* Zixuan took me to lunch. He’s not my mate. Without my wolf, I was uncertain if I'd sense or scent my mate. My birthday felt bummed and I didn’t want to celebrate. I entered the foyer of pack house. I sported my favorite color today, looking quite petite in my light blue wrap romper with short sleeves, surplice neckline, and skirt overlay. I came to hang out with Amber for a while when a loud screeching was heard from outside. Turning around in curiosity, I spotted Sage’s car with smoke at the tires. Overriding the sinking feeling in my stomach, I rolled my eyes at his dramatic entrance. Giving him little importance, I spun around and accidentally bumped into an Omega who dropped a tray of empty wine glasses that shattered to the floor. Damn! “I’m sorry,” I apologized. The Omega appeared like she was going to cry. Oh no! I spoiled her day. I bent to help her tidy up. “Please let me clean it up,” she offered. “It’s my fault. I’ll let Beta Dwayne tell the ma

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   BONUS CH. 131.1- PREYA'S BITHDAY

PART 1 - Two weeks later..... -PREYA’S POV* Over in Primese Forest, I sat on the ground with my mated parents at 11:55 pm, five minutes away from my birthday. My back rested against a sandalwood tree feeling anxious and worried. My Dad, Senior Warrior Brian Delvaux, is a full-blooded werewolf and towers over me at 6’2'. He is chocolate colored with wavy black hair and gimlet blue eyes. He had a patrician nose and hirsute, bible-black eyebrows on an artist's face. Mom gave me a reassuring smile, “Honey, it will be alright.” They understood my glum mood and apprehension. “We’ll be here with you through the process,” Dad said sweetly, then glanced at the mired beauty of the moon. The silver deity of the submerged night embellished the still forest with its serene sweetness as we waited. “Thanks, Dad,” I replied, with a wildly beating heart. Because I have witch blood, I feared that I might not shift. This added to my further concerns about having a mate if I had no wolf. The mental

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 131 - SHINING LUNA

-MIKAYLA’S POV* Preya and Amoy did all our makeup. They are the beauty queens of the group and they spent twenty minutes painting my face with silver eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, and haute pink ultra-shine lip gloss. Luna Phoebe and Grandma Melody, the former Luna, joined us in Heron’s room at the pack house with my dress. “We hope you like it,” Grandma Melody chimed, optimistically. I donned the silver sweetheart neckline, full lace beach backless mermaid gown with a 3" 4” heel silver satin lace ribbon open-toe shoes. On my tight curls waterfall hairstyle, I wore a headwear diadem of white gold lined with 1, 222 diamonds, including the 102-carat pale blue brilliant diamond at the center which also includes pearls, and its design features roses, thistles, and orchids in honor of the fairy realm. Chippy brought it as a gift from Aunt Katinka. Preya squealed and clapped. “You look amazing!” When I stood in front of the mirror, I barely recognized myself. The girls gasped, “Wow.”

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 130 - ACCEPTANCE

-HERON’S POV* An uproar of celebration came from the pack. The tidal surge of happiness and gaiety tsunamis through the state. Everyone now understands that Mikayla was framed and innocently sent to her death. Tapping into the pack’s connection, I felt each Elders' remorse. With a mild injection of sorrow, many wished that their true Luna did not die and was present at this crucial moment of truth. Sage, who I’m still pissed at, hands me some wipes to clean my bloody hand. I glared at him while pulling the sheets of wipes out and sanitizing my hand. “Alpha, I said that I was sorry.” He penitently bowed his head. Solemnly, I turned my head away from him, paying attention to my fingernails and getting the blood out. “Can you bake, Sage?” I scowled. The sizzling anger rebounds. “N-no,” he stuttered. As a result of being under the heat of his alpha, he tugs at the collar of his shirt, which seemingly tightened. Then he nervously suggested, “Maybe Forbes could bake them.” Growling, I

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 129 - CATCHING HER

-HERON’S POV* Today, my countenance has a smiley face. The pineapple tarts were delicious. I left two in the refrigerator because I did not want to finish them all at once. This morning, Sage inadvertently ate one. I almost murdered him. Tyr shifted in the kitchen to rip his throat out and it took Axel and Forbes to pry me off my Beta. They were made with love and it was that love that flittered around my heart. Sage had no right to interfere with my treat. They were sentimental and specially made for me. My Beta better avoid the cottage for a while. Tyr was still fuming over it and not in a magnanimous mood. Charlotte didn’t leave the cottage until noon. Rosalie accepted my invitation to have breakfast with me. In one conversation, a lot can be summarized. To be honest, my decision was made. Naming her my Luna would get the elders to simmer down. There was no use prolonging this further. Then the rest should automatically go according to plan. Demi and I messaged each other a lot.

She stays at the pack house and is elated to be out of the cells. As expected, she goes around as though she runs the damn pack. Displaying qualities she deemed a born leader. I leave her be. Whilst, I cater to her essential needs. Pitifully, Charlotte kisses Mom’s ass and sucks up to Dad.I miss waking up to Mikayla's pale luminous skin in the weak morning light. My sugar fairy Luna. • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 127 - THE EXECUTION

-MIKAYLA’S POV* Barefooted, I was clad in a long red gown that touched the ground. Red signified the shedding of blood and sinfulness. It's the day of my death for the crimes that I did not commit. I had to walk the crucifixion path from the cottage to Davidan Forest, which is south of the territory. With the soles of my feet grated against the dirt and pebbles, I came upon a clearing in the middle of the forest where the sun scorched the green pigmentation from the grass, turning it brown and crisp. The fierce sun's combative photons, which scorched my ivory skin, had no wind to temper them. Amidst the green field was the stake consisting of a tall pillar with a large pile of firewood and stones at the base for torching. All the Elders stood to the left, while the Alpha and Luna and warriors were on the right. Valen was at the stake, waiting for me. Because Heron had marked me, the majority of the pack was mournful. I felt their pain, while they felt mine. I gripped the sides of
