*MIKAYLA’S POV*

Last night I went to bed early and bolted my door. That was a message to Heron to stay out of my room. Though he could have broken it down, I'm sure that he would have gotten the hint that I was not in a good mood to deal with him.

Tossing and turning in bed was a result of Varla's unreasonable demand. No one was aware of what we were talking about and Heron kept busy in his office.

After a late breakfast, I vacuum the entire house nonstop to keep my mind off the dinner that I'm supposed to attend but cannot. Being Heron’s imprinted mate mandated the highest degree of respect, similar to an Alpha’s, thus the new title of Luna being used. Recently being addressed in such a manner was disconcerting.

It yielded an eager desire to probe Heron further than a discreet surface scan without letting him into my psyche. His mood indicated that the mess he created was eating away at his brain. Dismissing it, I was not ready for him to go poking within my consciousness, neither

*MIKAYLA’S POV* I instantly shot up when I woke up in an unfamiliar outdoor space. Then the memories came flooding back. My stomach flipped nervously. “Where am I?” Disoriented, I sat up but was met with a pounding headache. Groaning with agonizing sharpness, I quirked my arms and swung my legs over the edge of the tall wooden crate. The air was strongly flavored with saltiness. As I gazed over the enormous container handling spaces next to the shipping berths, the silver moon added its sheen to the water's surface, and the pier was mostly calm except for the sound of the waves striking the sea-sawing boats. Where is everyone else? Numerous boats floated peacefully on both sides of the port beneath the lurid blue sky. Two huge vessels that docked dwarfed the other boats. A third ship was at the farthest terminal and was bunkering with five preoccupied men. No port authority was in sight. Every cell in my body screamed to run though my head was still mazed. My nose and arm hurt, a

*MIKAYLA’S POV* Waking up in Heron’s arms was heavenly. Last night was one of the best rest that I ever had. After my shower, I slipped into one of his T-shirts and snuck out the door. For one, I had no underwear on, and two, I wanted to be in my own room downstairs. Since his office door was wide open, he scented me before I could reach the landing of the stairs and ordered me back to his room. Anxiety and apprehension kept me up, but when I grew tired enough and climbed into his bed, the aroma of him swarmed me and comforted my heart to the point where I easily fell asleep. Now, it's morning and a bright new day. I’m lying on the bed, snuggling in his arms with my back to his chest. He stirs and tightens his hold around my tiny waist. His nose goes into my hair and he takes a long sniff. These sparks felt so damn good. I missed and craved them. “Good morning, beautiful,” he mutters. “How are you feeling?” My cheeks got hot and flushed. It was nice to hear him say that. I mean, h

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 65 – CHALLENGED

*MIKAYLA’S POV* "Heron, perhaps now is not the time," Alpha Hudson tries to shut down his son from making a scene. Quite frankly, he should have prompted his father before ringing things openly. "On the contrary," Heron insisted, his anger seething. "It is fitting that all our allies are reminded why we are the strongest pack here, but not only that, an example should be demonstrated." Alpha Henley came out of his shock, blinking his eyes wildly, "Is there a misunderstanding?" He shook his head, not able to make sense of the turn of events. Alpha Hudson knew that he could not hinder his son at this point because he had that determination factor in his aura that tripled out. "Explain the issue to us." Heron's dark icy eyes land on Varla, "Alpha Henley, your daughter has a confession to make." All eyes travel to set on Varla and her pensive reaction. She was scared of something, maybe Heron. It was time for her shady plots to come to light. "Speak, child," Luna Phoebe directed wit

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 66 - DOOMED

-MIKAYLA’S POV* I was doomed. Overlapping conversations flooded the grounds. Even the Omegas on duty that stood on the Brazilian walnut high-rising deck voiced their thoughts among themselves. My chest tightened with my eyes stuck on Heron to dismiss her challenge, but he sat there not saying a damn thing. Luna Phoebe held deep concern as her soft blue eyes trained on me. She must be thinking the same wavelength that I was. I cannot fight. Heron and the entire pack knew that. My years of abuse were written on the pages of my life. Yes, I have trained with Axel, who thinks that I was doing well, but my progress had not reached a warrior's level. I have never beaten him in any of our sessions, much less to attempt winning against an Alpha Female. Varla was going to pulverize me. Tension rose at the back of my neck, stiffening me. Heron! I screamed in my head. The panic must be obvious on my face, so why doesn’t he help to save me? I’m certain that Varla wants to send me to hell to

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 67 - THE FIGHT

*MIKAYLA'S POV* White sneakers, white socks, grey gym shorts, and a grey tank top were in the bag. I took out each item and placed them on the clean sink. It’s inevitable. I must fight for acceptance and worthiness. “Alpha Heron says to tell you that you have ten minutes to get dressed.” The pretty brown-skinned warrior explains. The hostile glare I gave her was not warranted as she was only the bearer, but I was mad as hell. “This is not happening,” I freaked out with tears, wanting to be released from the lock that I had on them. “Change quickly, Mikayla,” Luna Phoebe ushers me back into the cubicle and I hate my life. As I removed the shirt dress, I prayed and repeated my supplication to the moon goddess. If you make me win, I’ll complain less for a whole year, I declared to the deity. My breaths are short and quick as anxiety rises like a plateau inside of me. After I donned the training gear, I remained still in the cubicle for a while, sitting on the toilet seat, composing

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 68 - DON'T GIVE UP

*MIKAYLA’S POV* “Get up, Mikayla,” Heron forces his command through the mind-link. “Why? I can’t move.” I squirmed but it hurt to move. “The fight is over.” “It is not. Now get up and look at me.” He forgot that I was a corpse now. I was waiting for the light to guide me to the other side. Both my system and my cognitive capacities crashed. Varla would leave me alone once I continued acting in this manner. I closed my eyes as I resigned to the serenity of my out-of-body experience. “MIKAYLA!” Instantly, my body obeys his summons. I erected into a sitting position and found my eyes locked with Heron’s. They were exactly the same as when I had that dream, totally obsidian with a red pinwheel in them, mesmerizing me. Entranced by it, I stood, forgetting those and everyone around me. Everything went silent and my anguish numbed. Pixie jumped around vivaciously, howling merrily while I gawked at his handsome face. Except for our heartbeats, all other sounds were muted. He slithered

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 69 - ROGUES

*HERON’S POV* Mikayla went into a deep slumber after her fight. I held her bridal style in my lap as Alpha Henley and the omegas tried so hard to free Varla from the sunken dirt that entrapped her. Today, CasterMoon became a laughing stock. They have learned: don't mess with FireBricks' Luna. Mom affectionately stroked Mikayla's cheek as she lay motionless in my arms. Innocent and cute, I admired my sweet Luna. The other Alphas gave me a soft smile and nodded their approval because Mikayla showed perseverance and strength, and above all, she won the battle. Mikayla staked her claim on me. The entire pack now understands that she was my woman, my intended Luna. A powerful Luna. "I wish that you would stop keeping secrets from us, Heron," Mom frowned and reiterated what Dad had mentioned, that I withheld Mikayla's hybrid status from them. Not all hybrids are accepted. Some wolves prefer pure-blooded werewolves in their packs. The Supernatural Triad Council, which consisted of the s

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 70 - BUDDING ROMANCE

*HERON’S POV* Axel had to be drunk last night. Nothing he said made sense and I had no spare time for foolishness. Today, I planned to treat Mikayla after Silva drops by. My winsome Luna earned it. It was a bright and sunny day to bud with some romance. “Dad, I’ll be out with Mikayla so please do not disturb your son and future daughter-in-law.” I sent over the mind-link. “Alright.” Dad terse. Someone moderately rapped on my office door. Judging by the scent that went up into my nostrils, I knew who it was. “Go away,” I barked, looking at the closed wooden door with my hand rubbing under my chin as I brainstormed dating ideas. “Alpha, I have a report,” Axel answers back. “Not today,” I returned. "Go and handle it by yourself." The objective of the day was to figure out a place for our first date. “But Alpha it’s……” “Axel, don’t make me strangle you today,” I warned, getting royally pissed. “It’s about what I said last night,” he insisted. “Amoy!” I bellowed and she came rush

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 132 - EPILOGUE

Four years later….. -HERON’S POV* "So listen up people," I will have no nonsense today and they better not argue over this. "Tonight is a special night for me and my woman." I was fucking serious about this. Mikayla and I have been so busy that we hardly spent enough time with each other. Tonight was arranged for us to have a romantic dinner at a resort. Mikayla promised me that we could have this night together. So I met with the people in our pack who have been closest to her and caused her the most trouble, to give them a piece of my mind. "Mikayla is lovable and we all adore her,” I get that she’s a blessing. After all, no one loved her more than I did. “BUT, tonight I need to have her for myself." I demanded, "I'm the Alpha and I'm laying down some ground rules for the both of you." I’m the luckiest man in the world to have her as my wife and these two have been trying to get in between what we have. The male scrunched his face and pouted his mouth, while the other smiled a

PART 2 - -PREYA’S POV* Zixuan took me to lunch. He’s not my mate. Without my wolf, I was uncertain if I'd sense or scent my mate. My birthday felt bummed and I didn’t want to celebrate. I entered the foyer of pack house. I sported my favorite color today, looking quite petite in my light blue wrap romper with short sleeves, surplice neckline, and skirt overlay. I came to hang out with Amber for a while when a loud screeching was heard from outside. Turning around in curiosity, I spotted Sage’s car with smoke at the tires. Overriding the sinking feeling in my stomach, I rolled my eyes at his dramatic entrance. Giving him little importance, I spun around and accidentally bumped into an Omega who dropped a tray of empty wine glasses that shattered to the floor. Damn! “I’m sorry,” I apologized. The Omega appeared like she was going to cry. Oh no! I spoiled her day. I bent to help her tidy up. “Please let me clean it up,” she offered. “It’s my fault. I’ll let Beta Dwayne tell the ma

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   BONUS CH. 131.1- PREYA'S BITHDAY

PART 1 - Two weeks later..... -PREYA’S POV* Over in Primese Forest, I sat on the ground with my mated parents at 11:55 pm, five minutes away from my birthday. My back rested against a sandalwood tree feeling anxious and worried. My Dad, Senior Warrior Brian Delvaux, is a full-blooded werewolf and towers over me at 6’2'. He is chocolate colored with wavy black hair and gimlet blue eyes. He had a patrician nose and hirsute, bible-black eyebrows on an artist's face. Mom gave me a reassuring smile, “Honey, it will be alright.” They understood my glum mood and apprehension. “We’ll be here with you through the process,” Dad said sweetly, then glanced at the mired beauty of the moon. The silver deity of the submerged night embellished the still forest with its serene sweetness as we waited. “Thanks, Dad,” I replied, with a wildly beating heart. Because I have witch blood, I feared that I might not shift. This added to my further concerns about having a mate if I had no wolf. The mental

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 131 - SHINING LUNA

-MIKAYLA’S POV* Preya and Amoy did all our makeup. They are the beauty queens of the group and they spent twenty minutes painting my face with silver eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, and haute pink ultra-shine lip gloss. Luna Phoebe and Grandma Melody, the former Luna, joined us in Heron’s room at the pack house with my dress. “We hope you like it,” Grandma Melody chimed, optimistically. I donned the silver sweetheart neckline, full lace beach backless mermaid gown with a 3" 4” heel silver satin lace ribbon open-toe shoes. On my tight curls waterfall hairstyle, I wore a headwear diadem of white gold lined with 1, 222 diamonds, including the 102-carat pale blue brilliant diamond at the center which also includes pearls, and its design features roses, thistles, and orchids in honor of the fairy realm. Chippy brought it as a gift from Aunt Katinka. Preya squealed and clapped. “You look amazing!” When I stood in front of the mirror, I barely recognized myself. The girls gasped, “Wow.”

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 130 - ACCEPTANCE

-HERON’S POV* An uproar of celebration came from the pack. The tidal surge of happiness and gaiety tsunamis through the state. Everyone now understands that Mikayla was framed and innocently sent to her death. Tapping into the pack’s connection, I felt each Elders' remorse. With a mild injection of sorrow, many wished that their true Luna did not die and was present at this crucial moment of truth. Sage, who I’m still pissed at, hands me some wipes to clean my bloody hand. I glared at him while pulling the sheets of wipes out and sanitizing my hand. “Alpha, I said that I was sorry.” He penitently bowed his head. Solemnly, I turned my head away from him, paying attention to my fingernails and getting the blood out. “Can you bake, Sage?” I scowled. The sizzling anger rebounds. “N-no,” he stuttered. As a result of being under the heat of his alpha, he tugs at the collar of his shirt, which seemingly tightened. Then he nervously suggested, “Maybe Forbes could bake them.” Growling, I

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 129 - CATCHING HER

-HERON’S POV* Today, my countenance has a smiley face. The pineapple tarts were delicious. I left two in the refrigerator because I did not want to finish them all at once. This morning, Sage inadvertently ate one. I almost murdered him. Tyr shifted in the kitchen to rip his throat out and it took Axel and Forbes to pry me off my Beta. They were made with love and it was that love that flittered around my heart. Sage had no right to interfere with my treat. They were sentimental and specially made for me. My Beta better avoid the cottage for a while. Tyr was still fuming over it and not in a magnanimous mood. Charlotte didn’t leave the cottage until noon. Rosalie accepted my invitation to have breakfast with me. In one conversation, a lot can be summarized. To be honest, my decision was made. Naming her my Luna would get the elders to simmer down. There was no use prolonging this further. Then the rest should automatically go according to plan. Demi and I messaged each other a lot.

She stays at the pack house and is elated to be out of the cells. As expected, she goes around as though she runs the damn pack. Displaying qualities she deemed a born leader. I leave her be. • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 127 - THE EXECUTION

-MIKAYLA’S POV* Barefooted, I was clad in a long red gown that touched the ground. Red signified the shedding of blood and sinfulness. It's the day of my death for the crimes that I did not commit. I had to walk the crucifixion path from the cottage to Davidan Forest, which is south of the territory. With the soles of my feet grated against the dirt and pebbles, I came upon a clearing in the middle of the forest where the sun scorched the green pigmentation from the grass, turning it brown and crisp. The fierce sun's combative photons, which scorched my ivory skin, had no wind to temper them. Amidst the green field was the stake consisting of a tall pillar with a large pile of firewood and stones at the base for torching. All the Elders stood to the left, while the Alpha and Luna and warriors were on the right. Valen was at the stake, waiting for me. Because Heron had marked me, the majority of the pack was mournful. I felt their pain, while they felt mine. I gripped the sides of
