*MIKAYLA’S POV*

It's been nine days since Alpha Heron was in the hospital. The cottage was surprisingly light and quiet without his presence. Sage does not even bring home any she-wolves. Most days he was in Heron's office working his ass off. While Forbes mainly goes to the training ground with Axel and assists Sage in the areas that require it.

My duties remain the same, but I go to the hospital daily to see Alpha Heron. I ensure that the nurses change his bedsheets. Then I read and sing to him, and most importantly, I keep his face and hair trimmed and clean.

I thought he might wake up when he realized my annoying presence was constantly around him. My wolf was sad at her alpha's comatose state.

The condition is highly confidential, and no one tells me the reason he suddenly blacked out. One day he went out with Sage and Forbes and did not return with them. I'm glad that no one blames the maid or thought suspiciously of me in any way. Instead, they look to me to still provide hi

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 27 – WHERE'D SHE GO?

HERON’S POV*- CRASH!!!!! The desk went flying across the office, against the left window to the front of the house. My wolf has gone completely ballistic. He’s raging and I cannot stop him. Why? Because I understand his aggression. Tyr is not one to recede and let go. He would rather hunt Charlotte down and deal with her as his mate. She knows that I’m after her and she is twisting me in her poisonous web like an idiot. Charlotte keeps moving. Skipping from town to town like we are in a game of hopscotch. Habitually, she finds another lover each time. Fucking like a nymphomaniac. Goddess knows where she gets her sexual appetite from. I'm an Alpha, yet I don't go around screwing the whole fucking town! No matter what fictitious veneer I disguised on my exterior, my insides were whirling and twisting in wretched pain and endless grief. Every day was like a blunt dagger stabbing and wrenching into my heart. No, I won’t force her to love me. I'm at my limit. She's pushed me enough.

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 28 – THE PRIZE

*MIKAYLA’S POV* The most lethal glare and charring aura are always emitted by Alpha Heron whenever we cross paths. It’s that kiss in the hospital. We do not speak about it. It’s best forgotten. After all, it’s not my fault. He’s the one who had me in his vice-like grip and forced the kiss. He ought to be apologizing to me. Plus, he’s such a terrible kisser. The damnable recount crept out of its corner into my mental vision. It caused long-forgotten desires to visit the surface of my consciousness. Desires that I assumed had perished with Andy. There were no sparks, but there was something fervid.........and it was too frightful. Conceivably, it could explain why Nikki and other she-wolves chased these attractive guys for intimacy. They were said to be fantastic in the sack. Needless to say, Heron was sexy, hot and manly, if you know what I mean. I'm not blind to his sex appeal, but I never gave it much attention, knowing the dangers associated with sleeping around with them, until t

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 29 – ASS WHOOPING

MIKAYLA’S POV* Ever since I began working at the cottage, my heartbeat has never been regular. The heightened anxiety, the wariness, and the fear, all caused my heart to palpitate every day. When you combine that with working with a bipolar Alpha, you get a she-wolf with severe panic episodes. How is it that I was supposed to be a prize? Heron had met my gaze, cold glare to cold glare, before he wheeled past me like I was not woman enough. Good! I'd rather jump from a cliff before I am caught in his bed. Fortunately, my phone was intact after it fell to the floor yesterday. There were no breaks or cracks. Had it been damaged, I would have to immediately replace it in order to maintain contact with Luna Phoebe. Since Heron was discharged from the hospital, Luna has instructed me to remain vigilant of his health and to notify her if he experiences any further pain. I spy on him to accomplish that, and although he perceives that I'm there, he turns a blind eye. Sage and Forbes laughe

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 30 - GETTING PERSONAL

MIKAYLA'S POV* “Yes, Mikayla,” Axel pulled my focus to himself, but I forgot why I came into his office in the first place based on the other party in the room. Releasing a deep breath, I said, “I have to go home and make the Alpha’s dinner.” I cast my head to the right, keeping my view on the filing cabinets near the corner of the room as I spoke to avoid the two pairs of piercing eyes in the room. “I’d like to head back now.” Axel chuckled, so I sent him a hard look. Then he said with a straight face, “I agree. You should go home and take care of your Alpha.” “Thank you,” I politely turned on my heels. Before I could open the door, the husky voice stopped my motion. “Stop,” his rough, commanding tone stated. This was what caused me to look at him. His penetrating blue globes glowered straight into my soul. He clenches his fist and glares at me while his pupils enlarge and his jaw tightens. “Aren’t you getting a little too bold these days, Mikayla? Your insolence does not go u

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 31 – GRIEVING

*HERON’S POV* This is the millionth time that I am staring down at my phone. There are messages from my family and commanding officers but none from her. It’s been three months, two days, three hours, and six minutes since we've been hunting Charlotte. The degree of the damage to my heart from that piece of note that Axel gave me or when she told me not to see her again, was amazing. Her words were truly hurtful and the hole in my life remains void. She decided the fate of our mate bond on the hearsay of others instead of seeking to find out what could evolve out of it. Rather than being civil, and talking like adults, she plays a deadly love game. Unanswered phone calls and unreturned messages are building my insanity. Simon went as far as hacking systems to find a contact number for her. Then she slips through our fingers. It's almost as though she is being aided, but by whom? So, every day when the sun sets, a bottle goes to my mouth. Sage and Forbes, of course, cannot tell me w

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 32 - I'LL DO WORSE

*HERON’S POV* Closing my eyes was to shut out the overbearing presence of those around me. I am in the den at the cottage, lying on the alabaster white slipper couch. Fuck, my head ached tremendously. I placed my left hand on my forehead, massaging it. I had dreamt of Charlotte. We lived in a suburban community with two kids. We had two little boys that were playing in the sprinkles on the front lawn. Coming from work, I parked at the side of the driveway, and watched my boys frolick in the water. When they saw me, they ran over to embrace me, soaking and getting my pants wet. Charlotte came to the door to reprove our boys for drenching me. I picked up each of them in my arms, walked over to her and placed a kiss on her lips. The last thing that I recall was her lips on mine and hearing her telling me that she loved me. It was a wishful dream. One that I thought was dead, but it seems that my heart pines and clings to the delusion. “Did you say that you found Charlotte?” My head wa

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 33 – NIGHT'S RUN

*MIKAYLA’S POV* The sun isn't visible, but the moon is shining brightly. Despite the complete darkness outside, the stars are twinkling with all their might. The world gets ready for rest as the beautiful day gives rise to the tranquility that comes with nightfall. I was in the kitchen prepping for tomorrow's dinner. I had in mind to make some grilled steak and was seasoning it overnight so that it would marinate. Omega June was not around to help because Alpha Heron ordered her not to sleep here anymore. In the past, she would stay overnight for our cleaning days for us to get an early start in the mornings. However, she was recommended for training in culinary at the pack house. She comes only when I summon her for an extra hand with cleaning the entire cottage. Nikki shuns my efforts to foster friendly conversations. I have not seen her in a while and my text messages go unread. June said to give her time to come around, she will come to her senses that I have no decision-makin

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 34 – RUT

*MIKAYLA’S POV* "Shift," he alpha-commands me with a sensual tone. Laying with my back against the hard grassy ground, my wolf is at his mercy. Submissively, I slowly shifted to my nude human form. Heron growled deeply as he looked down on my body, and in seconds his naked human form rested against me, skin to skin. "Heron," I peered into his darkening eyes with helplessness, stupefied. The panic in my chest was being overpowered by the salacious signals emerging from his rut. "Shhh," he quiets me and roves his eyes at my nakedness, taking note of every inch of my body with special attention on my lips. "Feeling you takes the pain away." This alluring dark angel with tanned firm bulky muscles, enticed me to caress them. Tracing my fingers along his well-defined eight-pack muscles elicited a breathy sound from him. Feeling both his sexual pheromones on my exposed skin and the subjection of his intense lustful gaze left me shuddering beneath him, with no room for shame. He had this

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 132 - EPILOGUE

Four years later….. -HERON’S POV* "So listen up people," I will have no nonsense today and they better not argue over this. "Tonight is a special night for me and my woman." I was fucking serious about this. Mikayla and I have been so busy that we hardly spent enough time with each other. Tonight was arranged for us to have a romantic dinner at a resort. Mikayla promised me that we could have this night together. So I met with the people in our pack who have been closest to her and caused her the most trouble, to give them a piece of my mind. "Mikayla is lovable and we all adore her,” I get that she’s a blessing. After all, no one loved her more than I did. “BUT, tonight I need to have her for myself." I demanded, "I'm the Alpha and I'm laying down some ground rules for the both of you." I’m the luckiest man in the world to have her as my wife and these two have been trying to get in between what we have. The male scrunched his face and pouted his mouth, while the other smiled a

PART 2 - -PREYA’S POV* Zixuan took me to lunch. He’s not my mate. Without my wolf, I was uncertain if I'd sense or scent my mate. My birthday felt bummed and I didn’t want to celebrate. I entered the foyer of pack house. I sported my favorite color today, looking quite petite in my light blue wrap romper with short sleeves, surplice neckline, and skirt overlay. I came to hang out with Amber for a while when a loud screeching was heard from outside. Turning around in curiosity, I spotted Sage’s car with smoke at the tires. Overriding the sinking feeling in my stomach, I rolled my eyes at his dramatic entrance. Giving him little importance, I spun around and accidentally bumped into an Omega who dropped a tray of empty wine glasses that shattered to the floor. Damn! “I’m sorry,” I apologized. The Omega appeared like she was going to cry. Oh no! I spoiled her day. I bent to help her tidy up. “Please let me clean it up,” she offered. “It’s my fault. I’ll let Beta Dwayne tell the ma

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   BONUS CH. 131.1- PREYA'S BITHDAY

PART 1 - Two weeks later..... -PREYA’S POV* Over in Primese Forest, I sat on the ground with my mated parents at 11:55 pm, five minutes away from my birthday. My back rested against a sandalwood tree feeling anxious and worried. My Dad, Senior Warrior Brian Delvaux, is a full-blooded werewolf and towers over me at 6’2'. He is chocolate colored with wavy black hair and gimlet blue eyes. He had a patrician nose and hirsute, bible-black eyebrows on an artist's face. Mom gave me a reassuring smile, “Honey, it will be alright.” They understood my glum mood and apprehension. “We’ll be here with you through the process,” Dad said sweetly, then glanced at the mired beauty of the moon. The silver deity of the submerged night embellished the still forest with its serene sweetness as we waited. “Thanks, Dad,” I replied, with a wildly beating heart. Because I have witch blood, I feared that I might not shift. This added to my further concerns about having a mate if I had no wolf. The mental

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 131 - SHINING LUNA

-MIKAYLA’S POV* Preya and Amoy did all our makeup. They are the beauty queens of the group and they spent twenty minutes painting my face with silver eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, and haute pink ultra-shine lip gloss. Luna Phoebe and Grandma Melody, the former Luna, joined us in Heron’s room at the pack house with my dress. “We hope you like it,” Grandma Melody chimed, optimistically. I donned the silver sweetheart neckline, full lace beach backless mermaid gown with a 3" 4” heel silver satin lace ribbon open-toe shoes. On my tight curls waterfall hairstyle, I wore a headwear diadem of white gold lined with 1, 222 diamonds, including the 102-carat pale blue brilliant diamond at the center which also includes pearls, and its design features roses, thistles, and orchids in honor of the fairy realm. Chippy brought it as a gift from Aunt Katinka. Preya squealed and clapped. “You look amazing!” When I stood in front of the mirror, I barely recognized myself. The girls gasped, “Wow.”

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 130 - ACCEPTANCE

-HERON’S POV* An uproar of celebration came from the pack. The tidal surge of happiness and gaiety tsunamis through the state. Everyone now understands that Mikayla was framed and innocently sent to her death. Tapping into the pack’s connection, I felt each Elders' remorse. With a mild injection of sorrow, many wished that their true Luna did not die and was present at this crucial moment of truth. Sage, who I’m still pissed at, hands me some wipes to clean my bloody hand. I glared at him while pulling the sheets of wipes out and sanitizing my hand. “Alpha, I said that I was sorry.” He penitently bowed his head. Solemnly, I turned my head away from him, paying attention to my fingernails and getting the blood out. “Can you bake, Sage?” I scowled. The sizzling anger rebounds. “N-no,” he stuttered. As a result of being under the heat of his alpha, he tugs at the collar of his shirt, which seemingly tightened. Then he nervously suggested, “Maybe Forbes could bake them.” Growling, I

  • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 129 - CATCHING HER

-HERON’S POV* Today, my countenance has a smiley face. The pineapple tarts were delicious. I left two in the refrigerator because I did not want to finish them all at once. This morning, Sage inadvertently ate one. I almost murdered him. Tyr shifted in the kitchen to rip his throat out and it took Axel and Forbes to pry me off my Beta. They were made with love and it was that love that flittered around my heart. Sage had no right to interfere with my treat. They were sentimental and specially made for me. My Beta better avoid the cottage for a while. Tyr was still fuming over it and not in a magnanimous mood. Charlotte didn’t leave the cottage until noon. Rosalie accepted my invitation to have breakfast with me. In one conversation, a lot can be summarized. To be honest, my decision was made. Naming her my Luna would get the elders to simmer down. There was no use prolonging this further. Then the rest should automatically go according to plan. Demi and I messaged each other a lot.

She stays at the pack house and is elated to be out of the cells. As expected, she goes around as though she runs the damn pack. Displaying qualities she deemed a born leader. I leave her be. • THE DETACHED ALPHA   CHAPTER 127 - THE EXECUTION

-MIKAYLA’S POV* Barefooted, I was clad in a long red gown that touched the ground. Red signified the shedding of blood and sinfulness. It's the day of my death for the crimes that I did not commit. I had to walk the crucifixion path from the cottage to Davidan Forest, which is south of the territory. With the soles of my feet grated against the dirt and pebbles, I came upon a clearing in the middle of the forest where the sun scorched the green pigmentation from the grass, turning it brown and crisp. The fierce sun's combative photons, which scorched my ivory skin, had no wind to temper them. Amidst the green field was the stake consisting of a tall pillar with a large pile of firewood and stones at the base for torching. All the Elders stood to the left, while the Alpha and Luna and warriors were on the right. Valen was at the stake, waiting for me. Because Heron had marked me, the majority of the pack was mournful. I felt their pain, while they felt mine. I gripped the sides of
