However, as they continued their journey, his companion was always taking some calls.

None of those calls lasted for fifty seconds each.

JT wondered whether it wasn’t just a coincidence. He knew right then that he had a lot to learn from these people.

Right before them was the tallest building he had ever set his eyes on.

He whistled and said that it was an architectural masterpiece. He brought out his mobile phone and took a picture of the building.

He could share knowledge and improve on his own designs, he thought. Mr. Cooper on the other hand only nodded his head.

He led the way for him as they entered a lift.

The lift stopped them on the twenty-second floor. As they approached the office of the Managing Director, Justice could see a silhouette from the window shade. The silhouette seemed to be holding a stick in his hand and putting it into his mouth. He thought that the person must be smoking.

The door opened even before Mr. Cooper could touch it. Right before them was

He makes sure that she is never prosecuted.’ ‘Why then doesn’t he, kind of restrict her movement?’ He asked. ‘He wants her to live a normal life hoping that one day nature would reverse what it had done on her.’ ‘Well, I hope so too.’ ‘Now to your second question…I happen to be a lawyer by profession and I work as a team with two or three other lawyers for the company. Secondly, I watched you enter the mall in a confused state and that was how I figured out your problem. And to your third question, let’s just say that I decided to put my emotions under control.’ ‘You mentioned a company. Which company are you talking about?’ ‘I’m talking about the same company for whi

‘I just finished speaking with you now; there must be some mistake somewhere.’ ‘Are you sure you’re okay?’ he touched her fore-head to dictate any hotness on her head. ‘Stop it.’ She shouted and subsequently removed his hand. ‘If you weren’t the person I’ve been talking with then who could that be?’ He yelled. ‘Well, my dear JT it may surprise you to know that Ku Klux Klan dwells in the world of illusions.’ She said puckering her face. ‘What in God’s name are you saying?’ He asked in bewilderment. ‘Cornerstone constructions are actually the cornerstone of this cult known as Ku Klux Klan. Heard about it before?’ she asked. ‘Yes I’ve come across it in a book. Does it exist?’ ‘You can ask that again.’ She said. ‘What just happened to you is one of their tricks. They want to trick you into giving away your presentation by using me. You’ve got to thank God that I was here in time to save your butts otherwise you would have been in for it.’ ‘I’m speechless. ‘You’re welcome,’ she said. She reversed her car and viewed the happy moments of loved ones and also shared in their happiness. When it was evident that she h’d had enough, she drove off. ‘My son, welcome back,’ his mother uttered. She hugged him for a very long time like a lost child. ‘Tessy, you are going to suffocate the boy,’ his father said. ‘Yes, let me suffocate him I’ve missed my boy so much.’ She said amidst tears and sobs. He wound his hands around her and took her in. His father only followed them and shook his head as he joined them. ‘Women, when will they ever change and understand the life we are living?’ He chuckled. ‘Justice you are indeed a great person. Who knows? You must have come from a lineage of great people.’ The M.D said. ‘Well sir, I think the credit goes to God almighty for bestowing me with such wisdom.’ ‘You have made my day my boy and this call for celebration.’ He came close to JT and placed his hands on his shoulder and led him to the recepti

‘Hello, JT where are you? Where have you been? Do you know how your mum is at the moment? She is worried a whole lot about you. He twittered. ‘Calm down Prince. I too didn’t know where I was until a moment ago.’ ‘You mean you were kidnapped?’ ‘No, no, no, it’s not what I mean.’ ‘Then what do you mean? I was with you at the party and suddenly I decided to ease myself and when I returned I didn’t see you. I anticipated you had gone home but was surprised this morning when your mum called me requesting to know where you were. I couldn’t tell her I didn’t know where you were because the poor woman would’ve fainted if she h’d known the truth.’ ‘Well, I’m in Sharon’s house. Hope to return home soonest.’ ‘What the hell happened?’ He twittered more. ‘It’s nothing you should worry about. We shall talk more when I return.’ ‘Alright, see you then but make it snappy because I wouldn’t know what to tell your old woman again when she calls.’ ‘I will. Bye.’ ‘Bye.’ Prince responded. He wa

His colleagues could not understand this sudden affection their boss had developed for JT. They were of course not jealous of him but they felt there are more to what the eyes could see. They felt this affection had grown beyond the fact that JT won the contract for their company but that something else was fishing. All eyes were on the white jeep standing outside in front of the building. The M.D and Justice sat behind while Sharon sat in front with the driver. She decided to leave her car behind, she wanted to feel and be a part of this moment. As they approached his house, Justice’s heart was beating faster. Could it be true? This question had been going on in his mind for half an hour now. Finally they were there; he had rented a new apartment for his parents. He would have appreciated it if his new father had seen the former life he was living, a life of penury. He pressed the bell button and someone peeped from the hole on the door. He stepped back in surprise and allowed

I owe you, in fact you’ve saved my butts. I would have been in for it in the test. Now this intruder is going to hinder his progress. ‘What is he thinking about, didn’t you by any chance notice me?’ she asked tactfully. She went round his table and then came to the front, sat down and took his cup of coffee he kept on the table. She sipped it and kept the cup and cunningly used her nail to touch his chest. ‘You and I can work things out, you know?’ She asked with a smile in the corner of her mouth and her eyes contracting to the effect of the smile. ‘Get out of here!’ he snarled as he gesticulates with his fingers pointing towards the door. ‘You better get used to having me around b

She believed that her gorgeous looks and Jenkins’s love for her would do the trick. She shouldn’t have to do anything at all. She considered herself not like the other women who fight for their love by becoming mischievous. She was observing Chief Coker and Nma discussing some tables away and she could see his gaze at her every couple of minutes and some smile escaping from the corner of his mouth spontaneously. She felt so stupid for even asking Nma to enquire from her husband. What the heck, the deed had been done, she only had to wait for her feedback. While she waited, she remembered that she had left her precious gifts with their father, so she went to join them. Her mind’s eye could not help but take her down memory lane. It was mid-September, the rains were beginning to fall with great intensity, she felt so cold in that weather. She hadn’t enough clothes on her, she had exhausted all that she had. She needed a number of heavy clothing to ward away cold because her pregnancy h

What was she actually going to do with him now that he had suggested that they would be going to meet his parents? Was she really ready for a relationship with him, no matter the nature be it marriage or casual relationship? From the look of things, he really wanted more from her. She could guess that he wanted a lasting relationship. What her children thought of the whole thing really mattered to her. She felt that she would go with whatever decision they had to take. She started hearing footsteps approaching her and she felt it could be her daughters that were coming to her. She turned around and saw them. She couldn’t believe her eyes. If she hadn’t left the house together with Sophia and having known the clothing she wore before, she wouldn’t have been able to differentiate between the two of them. They were incredibly unidentifiable. He took the pleasure of walking behind them. Mirabel was the first to speak. ‘Mum, here we are.’ She said gesticulating with her hands wide open.

She had longed for him all these years, hoping that he would return to her, that he would tell her how much he actually loved her. She was beginning to love him, but suddenly, he vanished into thin air. What is love as he claimed if you can’t stand up to what you love? If you cannot love unconditionally? She was still lost in the climax of her ocean of thoughts when he walked in unannounced admiring her. Immediately, she felt his presence and she started. ‘My love, how are you fairing? Do you know that am so elated seeing you? I mean, am over the moon.’ He said smiling and embracing her. ‘Please, don’t touch me.’ She said glaring at him. ‘Why? You are still the same old you dear. How can I make you understand? It’s really not what you are thinking. I still do love you. A moment did not pass by without me thinking of you. I actually did come to see you but I found out that the police were after me. I lay low for some months in another state handling some of my father’s businesses.

They said their prayers, did a lot of cleaning up because the day was on a Saturday. They worked round the clock tirelessly, it was around 1 o’clock that they had finished, very exhausted. They quickly refreshed again and got ready for the late afternoon event. Driving through the streets of Lagos was fun to justice once more; sitting beside him was the love of his life, Sharon. The rest of the family members were seated at the back of the car. Chief James Coker, his wife, Nma and Mirabel had taken Justice and Sharon out in order to conceal the fact that they were planning a surprise party for them. They went to the malls to pick one or two things. However, they had a stop at their local parish where they met with the parish priest who gave them his own blessings once more after their marriage. It was already 3pm by the time they were through with the outing. Chief had to suggest that they should start going home knowing that everything must have been set by then. Meanwhile, as the

A nation without the majority of the youth is already dead, literally. The second sound of the cock crowing brought her back to reality and she switched on the side-lamp and took a look at the wall-clock, it was already few minutes past six. She got out of bed and wore her slip-on. She opened her door and tapped on the door leading to Sophia’s room. There was no response, she knocked persistently, yet no response. She quietly pushed open the door, turning the door knob to let herself in. The white bedspread lay all around the bed in a careless manner. The edge of the bedspread was beginning to touch the floor. Sophia lay in bed unaware that her mother was right there with her. She stooped to pick the edge of the bedspread and tried arranging it on the bed a little. She shook her head on how careless her daughter could sleep. This was one of the reasons she had forbidden her from staying on campus but she objected to it, insisting that it would help her to focus on her studies when

  • THE COVERT IDENTITY   Chapter thirty-one

Love is considered to be both positive and negative, with its virtue representing human kindness, compassion, and affection, as “the unselfish loyal and benevolent concern for the good of another. It also has its vice representing human moral flaw, akin to vanity, selfishness, and egotism, as potentially leading people into a type of mania or obsessiveness. This diversity of uses and meanings combined with the complexity of the feelings involved makes love unusually difficult to consistently define, compared to other emotional states. The night was exceptionally cold, bringing back memories to Sophia of their trial days. She had really known how it was to be lonely. The world is a cruel place and she still didn’t know if it would get better. Her mum had seen it all in life and she had tasted both the bitter and sweet side of life. The sweet side she knew did not outweigh the bitter side. All through her life, she had come to grow to be resilient when it relates to pain, the pain she

‘Business, you said?’ Chief asked not understanding what he meant. ‘Yes sir, some other type of business, kind of personal sir.’ He said, wishing that the discussion didn’t have to extend on his personal matter. ‘I was meant to understand by your father, my senior colleague that you were coming home to take over his business.’ Chief James said unassumingly in a business manner. ‘Yes, that I would do, but right now there is only one thing on my mind of which I will let the cat out of the bag when the time is right.’ Jenkins concluded. ‘Dear, meet my wife and daughter.’ He said beckoning on mother and daughter to get closer. ‘Good evening ma’am.’ He greeted Nma with a kiss on her right hand. ‘She is really a beauty sir.’ He affirmed. ‘Of course, dear, there is no disputing the fact and I wouldn’t have loved her less.’ ‘Hello dear. After few minutes, she felt the urge to poop again. She gave one sharp push, and there she was, another cute angel. Just then, the midwife cut the placenta and cleaned her up. She always wondered if she could see her other daughter ever again, not that she wanted to take her, but it would be ideal if she could know her mother. The conversation between the two sisters had taken a great deal of their time that they hadn’t realized how the time flew. They both looked at their watches at the same time. ‘Wow! I have to get going. My older brother and the wife are expected home today from their honeymoon.’ Mirabel exclaimed. ‘Really? You don’t say. You have an older brother? There’s a lot I have to know about you and your family.’ Sophia gushed. ‘Yes, sis, I do. Mum will be waiting for me to return home by now. We have planned a surprise welcome home party for them the next day. Perhaps I shall invite you over.’ ‘That will be lovely.’ Sophia grinned. ‘Alright, may I have your ph

The madam showed her displeasure that she couldn’t pick a child she wanted to adopt from the children there. She thought she would choose one so that they could begin the legal preparations for adoption. However, she met the opposite reaction. ‘Ma’am, please may I know why you couldn’t choose any child from our home? Could it be that you don’t like our system of operation here? Madam Faith asked Nma. ‘No, no, please don’t get me wrong. I love everything about this home, but my attention is being drifted to another place. ‘And where could this be? She asked again. ‘I would like to know one thing, could you tell me who that girl that welcomed me is? She asked expectantly. ‘Oh! You mean Nkem? Madam Faith asked heaving a sigh of relief, at least she is still within the context of her environment, her own space. ‘Yes, if that’s her name.’ By now they were back to the common room and she asked Nma to sit down while she tells her all about Nkem, at least, the one that she hersel
