Harrold's POV.
There was something about New York City that just always managed to excite me. It could be the buzz, the thriving, the excitement, the shops, the weather, or the people moving about.
It could be just about anything that fascinated me really.
I had always lived in Miami, Florida far from New York but when I decided that It was time for me to build my empire and rule the world, I had Damien sit down with me while we looked through cities.
Somehow, New York had just fascinated me and I found myself choosing it.
Now, here we were.
“Do you have any special qualifications that you would need your PA to possess?” I had almost forgotten that Damien was with me in the car. Majorly because he was always quiet. But today, he was even quieter and didn't even say a word when I talked about the buzzing city like I always do.
“You say?” I asked him even though I had heard him.
“I'm very sure you heard me the first time, man. But just in case you are starting to develop ear problems, I'm going to repeat myself. Do you need your PA to possess any special qualities?” He said after rolling my eyes causing me to chuckle.
“You know me very well Damien. So, I'm sure you will find the right person.” I told him. He was the one that was going to interview the applicants that had been selected for the interview.
“Of course.” He rolled his eyes again just as the car pulled to a stop in front of the skyscraper building that housed my company. The driver hurriedly got out of his seat and came around to pull the door open for us to step down.
Damien came out first and I followed. Shrugging on my suit jacket, we started to make our way toward the building. All through the way to the elevator, workers around didn't stop saying good morning and standing on their feet until we got into our ride.
It was always like that.
The elevator took us to the top floor which belonged to me, alone. It was where my office was located. Damien whose office was just below the last floor had gotten off before me.
I walked into the space of my large office and went straight for my desk. I took off my coat and relaxed in my seat. After that, I took my laptop and got to work.
No sooner had I started attending today's work did my phone start ringing. Letting out a loud groan, I reached for my phone in my pocket and pulled it out.
The caller ID showed that it was my father calling me.
“Hello, father,” I said into the phone, a small smile playing on my lips. Unlike my mother, my father was a lot of fun and cool to chat with. That was when it was not concerning work.
“Son, how are you?” He asked. I could detect the slight shuffling of feet in the background so I knew he was walking.
“I'm fine, dad,” I said before relaxing into my swivel chair, certain that he would state the reason for his call.
“I got a call from Mr. Stephen, about thirty minutes ago.” He started and I sat up.
“Do you by any chance mean Stephen Douglas?” I asked just to be sure.
“Yes, Stephen Douglas.” I could sense the smile and pride in his voice as he spoke. “He has heard of you and what you do. He wants to award a contract to you. You know, supply home automation to him so that he could improvise the numerous houses he sells.” My father explained and I couldn't help smiling.
Why?
Because Stephen Douglas was one of the top successful businessmen in the business world. Having him award me such a contract meant that I had grown big. It also meant that other companies would soon start phoning.
“That is great news, dad.” I beamed, excited.
“Of course. You will get a call from him soon.” He added.
“Thank you so much, dad.” I smiled. “Oh, and Matilda delivered like always,” I mentioned the business trip Matilda just went on the past few days for my dad's empire.
“She has to. I trained her. But even he wouldn't have much time for me any longer. That is what happens when the two children one raises turn against one to become independent.” He complained and I fought the urge to roll my eyes, hard.
“You still have me. You know I will always make out time for you, dad. Besides, Damien would happily go on such errands for you. He is after all your soon-to-be son-in-law.” I reminded him.
“Yes, Damien. He will soon be leaving your company to work in the Empire's branch over there.” I exhaled knowing that it wasn't just now that he made the decision.
“He would be glad to.” I smiled, feeling accomplished for my brother.
“Let me leave you to work.” And with that, the line went dead. I put down my phone before going ahead to dig my hand into my hair. I was pleased with the great news.
It wasn't until two hours later when I was deep into the piles of work on my table that a soft knock on the door had me looking up.
Confused because I knew Damien would never knock and he was the only one who had the luxury to come into my office whenever he wanted without me having to summon him. I received a text from him telling me that my selected PA was coming in.
Letting out a deep sigh, I sat up in my seat and straightened my cramped shirt sleeves before going ahead to say, “Come in.” In a very firm and loud tone.
It took about four seconds. Yes, I knew that because I counted it in my head. It took about four seconds before the door creaked open slowly and someone walked in.
One look, one swipe at the face, just one glance at the face had me reeling backward in shock as I froze on the spot.
And at that moment, all my mind could come up with was nothing but how fucked up I was soon to become.
Oh, shit!
Riella's POV.Fuck Carolyn. That was one thing I kept thinking of while I had my interview with a group of people. You know how I said that my body didn't appreciate eating so very early in the morning? It was because of certain reasons. The stupid good-luck coffee Carolyn had forced me to take early that morning was starting to affect me. My stomach was churning deeply and now and then, new sweats broke out on my skin leaving me uncomfortable.Tears were starting to pool in my eyes at how uncomfortable I had gotten with the clothes I had on. Asides from that, I was experiencing this deep irritable bowel syndrome and I just want to get the fuck out of the room but I couldn't afford to mess up my interview.“You said you have never done this before?” A man who had introduced himself as Damien Martin had been the only one throwing questions at me ever since I walked into the room. The others just jotted down.“Yes, this is my first time,” I replied, managing to keep my head straight so
Riella's POV.Five seconds.Five whole seconds and I was still standing on the spot, my eyes glued to the man seated on the seat, behind the desk.Harrold Williams.Rich, fine, smooth, and creamy skin, doe-shaped brown eyes, well-structured nose, and sexy as hell lips…a face that screamed art stared at me. His raven dark hair mirrored mine, straightened in a style that made him look so hot and stirred the urge to run my hand through it.What the hell?“G-good morning, sir.” I snapped out of my fantasy just in time for him to raise a brow at me, questioning.“It's already noon.” That was his monotone reply, face pulled into an impassive expression as he watched me.And god damn his voice.Deep. Firm. And Sexy.“I'm sorry, sir.” I exhaled and straightened up properly. “Good afternoon, sir. I'm Riella Monroe, your newly appointed EA.” I introduced myself formally.Leaning back into his swivel chair, he sent me a smile that almost made me drool. When he beckoned at one of the chairs befor
Riella's POV.I hopped out of the cab, paid the cab man, and started to walk into the house. I was happy and excited for myself. I didn't expect to get the job, I wasn't expecting the news at all. And no, I wasn't underestimating myself. And the pay, my goodness! The pay was triple the amount of my former job. I couldn't believe it, couldn't comprehend it when Damien Martin had told me earlier. Heck, I almost freaked out.But I didn't. Instead, I raised my head and gave them one of my most pleasant smiles. A low ruffled bark had me stopping in my tracks. Hesitantly, I spurned around to meet the sight of the small white Labrador retriever dog that belonged to Lyn.I scooted down slowly, my smile stretching further as I rubbed its back. It wagged its tail, obviously excited to see me. It always stays at home while we go out to work.“Hello, Winter.” I smiled before moving further to rub its chest. That single gesture had it wagging its tail excitedly before it flicked its tongue at the
Riella's POV.“What are you wearing?” Carolyn's voice had my head whisking toward the door where she was standing, poking her head in. Her face was pulled into this dissatisfied frown as she watched me.My eyes did a slow crawl over her.She was donning a black jean bum short matched with a pink bustier which left ample stomach flesh on display. I went ahead to check out her feet which were clad in pink kicks. Her hair was pulled into a ponytail atop her head while her face was done into smokey-eyed makeup that made her look extra good.“Clothes.” That was my simple response to her question as she eyed me slowly.“I know that, doofus!” She hissed as she started to make her way into my room as she owned it. “I'm asking why you have that beach skirt on. We are going to a club and not the beach, Ella.” She complained.I looked down at the three-layered multi-colored beach skirt I had on which I had matched with a yellow top tied at my midriff.“What's wrong with this?” I threw my hands o
Riella's POV.I couldn't breathe. My throat felt clogged somehow and it felt like someone had a rope around my neck, tightening and tightening it by the second. It made my eyes burn with brimming tears and my nose get stuck.I didn't understand.I thought I was over this. I thought I was over this feeling, this sickening feeling that had become my worst nightmare. It was leaving me pathetic.Nice ass you got there. The voice whispered, solemnly to the back of my mind, testing me, trying to get at me. It was just like I remembered; teasing, deadly and forceful.I'm going to deal with you.The sickening voice came again. This time, it was a bit louder. It was like it was crawling into my mind, trying to pave way for itself, pave space. Lie for daddy, hun.I could feel it. I could feel the burns, the stupid burns on my skin. Burns that happened only when he had his finger running down my skin. But he wasn't here.He is here. That sneaky little voice debunked again and I felt myself redu
Harrold's POV.I climbed down the stairs, taking one step after the other. I could hear the loud chattering coming from the dining room and that made me hasten my footstep toward there.“Good morning, house.” I pulled back a chair and took my seat. Matilda who was seated opposite me placed her mug of whatever back on the table.“Good morning, Harrold.” She sent me a wink before grabbing her cutleries again to eat what was on her plate.“Hm, good morning boss.” Damien sent me a mock bow that had me chuckling lightly.James walked in and poured me a cup of coffee, added some toast, and placed it before me. I ate immediately while still conscious of the time.“Dad praised your efforts when we spoke yesterday. You must have done a very nice job.” I started, flickering my gaze toward Matilda who was now busy looking through something on her phone.“Of course, he would.” She shrugged like the compliment meant nothing to her. Then, she looked away from her phone at me. “Listen, we will be go
Riella's POV.My head was pounding. It was banging loudly, pummeling at such a fast rate that I feared whatever was hitting at it was sure to destroy the cage of my flesh. It was what had me peeling my eyes open. The rays and amount of sunlight seeping into my room made me squint my eyes a bit so I could adjust them to the light. But when my mind hinted at the fact that it wasn't supposed to be shining this much at 5:00 AM, I threw the covers off my body and sat up immediately. The soft snores emitting from someone besides me had me flickering my gaze toward the knocked-out and sleeping hot blonde, Carolyn.I climbed out of bed and grabbed my phone when I sighted. What said the time had me tumbling backward for a second and my back hit the wall.It was past eight.“Jesus!” I couldn't help screaming as I crashed to the ground, pulling at my detangled hair. I must have fallen asleep while watching the movie last night. And I didn't want to take the alcohol.I ran a hand through my hair
Riella's POV.Tension.An awkward kind of tension had settled between us. I was still standing by the door, frozen to the core at what his eyes expressed. Those brown doe-shaped eyes that stared at me with warmth the day before now looked every inch like Voldemort.Anger-filled eyes. And the fact that he hadn't said anything for the past five minutes I'd been standing there yet he wouldn't stop looking at me, stop scrutinizing me with his eyes making me uncomfortable. But even at that, somewhere in my mind, my mind was still thinking of how hot he looked while angry. I had heard from Carolyn a couple of times about how hot some guys look when they are angry. I had always debunked that statement but as I stared at Harold Williams now, I could not help agreeing with her.Hot and angry. Not bad.I shook my head, catching myself in time. I was in a deep mess with him yet I was still thinking about how hot he looked. Should I even be doing that? What was wrong with me?“Sir.” I think I'd f
