Chapter 15: Envy

POV: Winston

Something was wrong.

Something was very wrong.

Maddie wasn't replying to me requesting for her in my via the intercom.

I rapped my hand on my desk, unsure if she was just toying with me or if she was really missing.

I swallowed, pushed the button again and requested, "Maddison? Maddison Skye. I need you in my office immediately."

I waited. And waited. And waited.

Now, usual Maddie would have commented something snarky, like; Yes, your highness or Yes, your majesty or Whatever the king wants or even Your wish is my command.

Or something sarcastic like, Yes sir, right away sir. Or I'm coming. You will see me immediately. And of course, take a while to come up to my office. I would hear her purposely dragging her feet sluggishly across the hallway and come up with a snarky greeting at poor Anna.

But in everything, she'd always answer her call, albeit more annoying than a normal employee, but still. I looked forward to hearing from her.

Deciding I
