TWO
THIRD PERSON’S POV
“Coming back? He is coming back? Dad can you even hear yourself?”
Alejandro was heard saying, his voice echoing in the den
“Have you forgotten what he did? What he did to this family, the pain he brought to us? What happened to mamma?”
“You know I haven’t but…”
“Do not tell me you are even considering this Dad, come on” He interrupted, standing with his hands placed palms flat on the table that separated them
He had been in a mood since he was informed about the arrival of his brother and his anger was quite justified. It was his brother who they had practically ruled as dead for over six years now and the man who had been responsible for the woes that had befallen their family in the last three years including the death of their mother. It would be a tough pill to swallow for anyone including their father who lost the one woman he had ever loved.
Alejandro had stepped up and played a major part in keeping the business afloat, keeping the family strong by any means necessary when their father could not handle the pressure of losing his wife. Alejandro hovered over his father waiting for a good reason why they were welcoming a brother that they should have executed a long time ago.
“He is your brother” his father said
“Fuck that puta, Dad. He is a selfish prick that should have been taken care of immediately mother’s body went cold and you know it. Now I am never going to sit down and let you roll out the red carpet for your little golden boy and welcome him back to the fold like nothing ever happened”
“I did not say we are welcoming him back all I said was, he called”
“Cut the bullshit, dad; I know you and you might be able to fool every other person but not me. The minute Diego steps foot in this house he is back to being your golden goose…the one you trained to inherit it all and where does that leave Mateo and me?”
“Is that the issue here, Alejandro; the fact that you feel threatened by your brother?”
“I do not feel threatened!” Alejandro bellowed, slamming both hands on the table causing the flower vase to titter dangerously.
“Do you forget whose presence you are in, boy! Take that tone off your voice, this very minute!” his father rose, staring Alejandro down.
He had to admit though that some of the things his son was saying were true.
He had always favored Diego ever since they both came out of their mother and it had been very obvious to anyone who paid attention and would seem that Alejandro had been paying attention.
They continued staring each other down with Alejandro now quiet and observing his father; the hatred evident in his eyes.
Even though they looked almost identical Alejandro was no Diego, Diego was favored by his father because he took exactly after him. The hunger, the drive, the passion to succeed, the ruthlessness; all the traits that was needed to move forward in their business was present in him as it was absent in Alejandro.
His father had been surprised when he stepped up to lead after the death of their mother and he had let everything go up in smoke and he actually done a good job but then again he hadn’t been alone, he had had his other brother, Mateo with him.
Alejandro let his muscles relax as he continued staring at his father right before stalking off to a corner of the room.
“Everything I do is for this family but I can see that you do not appreciate it” he stated calmly... “I know that I am not your golden goose but I am still your son”
“You are my son, Alejandro but there are some things you do not know and you will clearly not understand… not in this state you are in”
“Then explain it to me, father. Tell me so I may understand”
“When the time is right; I will son but now is not the time”
Alejandro’s eyes hardened in anger and his face blanked out as he continued staring at his father from across the room.
“I just need you to trust me” his father said softly, walking over to where he stood.
Alejandro allowed his father pat his shoulder, seething at how feeble and weak-minded the old man was.
“I need you to believe me when I say everything I do as well I do for the good of this family. You will understand in time” His father said again
“So what now?” Alejandro asked
“Now we take the right steps to put this family back together. It will not be easy but I need your help, do you understand?”
“I understand”
“You will call a meeting tonight; gather the heads of each clan together but do not tell them what it is about; that burden will belong to me” his father sighed
Alejandro nodded in understanding and headed for the door; he could feel the blood singing in his veins and the rage threatening to overwhelm him but he quelled it immediately; this was not the time to be angry but time for him to think.
His brother was an unforeseen event that he had not been planning on and perhaps it was time for him to wait, reevaluate the plan and make the necessary adjustments.
No, this is the best time; it has to be now there will be no better time than this, the voice in his head warned
He knew that the moment Diego stepped into the house, all would be lost and besides the plan was already in motion, it was too late to stop now.
He pulled out his phone from his breast pocket and made a call as he descended the stairs of the mansion.
It would have been so much easier if they had managed to secure the damn girl; how fucking hard was it?
He hadn’t heard from them since he sent them on the mission and he only had to assume that they were dead
“We have a problem” he muttered as soon as the other line clicked
The room was bathed in a warm, golden glow as the setting sun cast its last rays through the curtains. The air was filled with anticipation and emotion as her father approached the door. With each step he took which brought him closer to the door, his heart seemed like it was going to come out of his chest. He had longed for this moment for what seemed like an eternity. For six years, he had clung to the hope of bringing his daughter back to the loving arms of her mother, his beloved wife.As he gently pushed the door open, his eyes immediately fell upon the touching scene that unfolded before him. There, in the center of the room, stood his wife, radiant and teary-eyed, holding their daughter tightly in her embrace. The daughter, now a young woman, had a mixture of emotions etched on her face—surprise, disbelief, and an overwhelming happiness that mirrored her mother's. His heart swelled with an indescribable joy at the sight of the both of them together at last, and a tear escaped
IRENEAs the truck rumbled through the bumpy roads, my heart pounded like a relentless drum. I struggled against my restraints, desperate to free myself from the clutches of my captors. This feeling of helplessness was something I despised so much, why was I always the one that ended up in these types of situations. None of my captors spoke a word to me despite all my yells and struggles, they just contained me at the back of the truck and continued driving. I couldn’t help but think about how Diego was faring, I was sure he would come for me. He definitely would. The thought of having to rely on him to get me out of trouble made me sick in the stomach, he was not going to be some knight in shining armor coming to save some defenseless princess every single time. I got irritated at myself for even thinking of it but a part of my mind still hoped that he was okay. These people were taking me somewhere in a strange country
DIEGOAs my consciousness slowly returned my eyes slowly parted and almost as immediately as it did I felt my head throbbing with a sharp, pulsating pain. I blinked several times, trying to bring the world back into focus. The room seemed to spin around me, and it took a moment to recognize my surroundings. The initial disorientation left me feeling vulnerable and confused. I instinctively reached up to touch my head, feeling the tender spot where I had been struck. The skin was sensitive to the touch, and I winced at the discomfort it caused. My fingers came away slightly sticky, and I realized there was a faint trace of blood on the fingertips. As I attempted to sit up, a wave of dizziness washed over me, causing me to hesitate. The pain in my head intensified, causing me to wince again. Slowly, I steadied myself , trying to regain my bearings. The room I found myself in was dimly lit, and I could barely make out the objects around me. Taking a deep breath, I tried to push aside t
DIEGOMy heart pounded as I felt the eerie feeling of being watched. I could feel the eyes on me and it was definitely not the eyes of random passers by who turned around to steal a glance when they saw a couple on a walk, no this was something different.I instinctively glanced over my shoulder and caught a glimpse of two shadowy figures trailing us at a distance. This was standard following practice, keep a distance and observe until it was time to strike or something. My mind kept on wondering if it was just me being overly cautious and there was nothing there perhaps just the fear of being back in the city when things had not been fully sorted out but then again I was never wrong about things like this and it was better to be safe than sorry. I had to know. Shooting a glance at Irene I knew I couldn’t put her life in danger again just by being neglectful of signs like this. At that moment I stopped on the road and pulled her in as if for a kiss on her neck. I saw the shock over
Diego approaches the door, peeks inside the tiny gap in the door, and then opens it to let Nate inside. “How’d you know we were here?” He said as Nate entered the room, he had a worried expression on his face. He was clearly upset since he was pacing back and forth across the room."There's a problem," Nate responded, automatically ignoring the query. He had followed them from the airport to the hotel, but there was no way he could reveal it to them. He could, but doing so would only generate suspicion, especially since Diego had promised to get in touch with him as soon as they landed. They had taken separate flights, and Nate had gone ahead to make arrangements for the supplies they would require during their stay here, including the weapons, money, and other items Diego had instructed him to procure. He entered the room carrying the bag of goods, which he set on the bed."Nate, what's the matter? Speak with us." Irene spoke while developing a worried expression on her face."Somet
IRENEDespite sitting next to each other in the plane seat, we hardly spoke to each other the entire flight. With the headphones on, he had cut me off, and for some strange reason, it stung because I thought I had done something wrong that I was unaware of. This was not how I typically was, but ever since I met him, he appeared to have cast a spell on me making me really weak for him, which annoyed me so much that I did not know why I felt the want to be in his books. I even gave him a kiss.Every emotion I was experiencing at the time was really bizarre, but at the same time, a part of me felt comforted because, for the first time in a very long time, I felt that my life had purpose and that purpose could be discovered by looking into my past. He had assured me that everything I had been told would make sense once I was in a familiar setting, and I was eager to fill in the blanks in my mind. Ever since I met Diego, I kept having visions of past events, and that had to mean somethin
