CHAPTER EIGHT

Vanessa tucked the sheets beneath her mother carefully, it has been three days post her surgery and Vanessa has been her hands and feet, taking care of all her needs.

She hasn't been back to the restaurant after the incident with mitchelle and trust social media to blow it out of proportion.

There wasn't been a name on earth that she hasn't been called.

Mitchelle being a lifestyle influencer and a fairy in the eyes of the public, the backlash she has been getting was insane.

At some point, she was even accused of the miscarriage mitchelle had.

How???

She couldn't walk down the street without being pointed at, or jeered at. And so she tied herself to her mother's bedpost for three days now.

At least taking care of her mother would keep her mind off the issue at hand

Or so she thought.

Adrian hasn't even reached out to know her whereabout.

Social media was burning down on her at the moment and he couldn't care less.

She heard someone clear their throat behind her breaking her out of her bed of thoughts and so she turned to see her sister, leaning against the doorpost of the hospital room.

“Heyy” Vanessa said cleaning the tears off her eyes, she has been doing that quite a lot lately.

“So you decided to make this little room your prison, huh?” She asked coming into the room.

“I just wanted to take care of mom, she needs me now!”

“The surgery was a success, she has two nurses at her beck and call… you just locked yourself here to escape reality’

“What then do you want me to do Sarah?... the whole country hates me and my so called husband doesn't give a shit if I got stoned to death by an angry mob, I'm just so sick of everything “ Vanessa retorted, tears gathering her eyes once again.

She hated how weak she was.

How she wasn't able to do anything to help herself but just cry.

It was sickening and she was tired of it.

“You need to blow off some steam sis, you chose to marry him and you have to be strong until it's all over okay?”

“Honestly, it's becoming too much for me!” Vanessa said with a sigh.

“Why don't we go for a party tonight… pregnant jenny is hosting a party at the blue box and we are all invited” Sarah said after some seconds of silence but the response from Sarah was a negative shake of head.

“Come on sis, you need to leave this place, plus I promised jenny that you will be there… she probably thinks cause you are married to the owner of the club she gets like discount or something”

“Is she even meant to be partying, isn't she like 8 months gone?” Vanessa asked.

Pregnant jenny was a part timer who worked at her dad's restaurant.

She was a bubbly lady who was so full of life.

“Well her slogan is YOLO, you only live once, so I guess she really doesn't mind. But you have to be there sis or I'm drugging you and carrying you there myself” Sarah said with a curt tone leaving no room for argument.

*******************

The music blasted loudly from the speakers once they were inside the club, deafening her.

Vanessa instantly regretted her decision to follow her sister out.

She decided to give in 30 minutes of her time and she would be out of there, thank goodness she came with her own ride.

She struggled with the black mini dress she had on, it belonged to Sarah who was a size smaller and less curvier, and as such, the gown clung to her like second skin.

Avoiding the crowd of people on the dance floor as much as she could, she slowly made her way to the bar.

On getting there, she sat on one the stools and ordered for a light beer, then she waved at pregnant jenny who had just sighted her.

Well she has made her presence known to her host.

20 minutes max, and she would be out of this hellhole.

She just wanted to be home.

And which home could that be?

Her father's or Adrian's?

She could feel a head ache coming in

Damn those loud ass speakers.

“Heyyyyy, look who is here!” A stranger rang out loudly from behind her and she turned to meet face to face with Andrew.

He had on the big warm smile she'd always associated him with.

“Andrew, hi” she replied as loud as she could, in order to be audible enough over the blasting music.

“What are you doing here”

“I'm here for a friend of mine, she's having a party !”

“That's nice” he said, the smile not leaving his face, he signalled someone over and a man drew closer.

He was average heighted, jet black hair and had such inquisitive eyes. He seemed too serious to be in such a setting as a night club.

“This is my friend Marcus, do not mind him at all, I brought him out to have fun… because he's kind of a workaholic” he said, the latter in a whisper.

“That's really nice of you andrew” she replied, a smile crossing her lips.

Then his phone and Andrew excused himself before walking away, leaving Vanessa with the workaholic, Marcus.

“Can I buy you a drink?” Marcus asked, breaking the awkward silence.

Vanessa replied with a nod and a smile accepting the drink from the stranger, she barely knew.

If only she knew what was coming for her next.

And if only she knew, that she was about to leak a secret, a secret that could ruin everything.
