Chapter 9

Little Witch

Grey was confused at how things were just turning around within seconds. “Did I do wrong by marrying Lila?” He questioned himself.

“And if at all you're interested in the explanation, do well by calling that little witch of a wife to come down as well.” The voice was added.

“Mum, I never knew you were awake. I thought you were still sleeping. Sorry, mom, how're you feeling now?” Grey asked, stepping forward to hold his mother's hands as she struggled to bring herself to the living room.

“I'm sorry, I was in a business meeting with our foreign clients when Ann informed me.

of your predicament, so I had to tell my wife to rush down to the hospital immediately to check on you.”

“Grey, you know why I'm out here. I'm not here to answer your greetings or tell you how I feel now. I heard you demanding an explanation from Ann, so I think it would be best if you could get the attention of the subject in question. Mrs. Shun replied.

“Mum, where is all this coming from?

Chapter 10.It is Finished In the quiet hours of the evening, Lila sat down on the veranda of Shun's mansion, watching how the leaves of the tree were dancing to the blowing breeze. With her glass of wine, she sat and read her favourite novel, thinking of the tribulations she was facing in her marriage.“Had she known that things would go as sour as this, she wouldn't have rushed to marry at all; perhaps she would have been lucky to marry someone who deserves her true love and will treat her like a queen.” She thought to herself. From afar, she saw her husband driving in as the gate was opened by security. Just before he could finish parking the car, his mother came out of the backyard and went to welcome her son. They talked for a few minutes before proceeding to the entrance of the house.“I'm sure she's reporting what happened today to her son," Lila thought.Fear gripped her because she was scared of how her husband would react. “If he could be so mad at me when she lied that I

“Nothing seems to affect her, Mom. It has been over five hours now since she ate, and she's still looking strong and healthy.” Grey lamented in panic. With her mouth wide open in shock, Mrs. Shun asked, “Are you sure you poisoned the food?”“Of course, yes. She's not an ordinary human, maybe.”“Could it be that she saw you when you were mixing the poison?” His mother asked again.“Not at all! Lila was searching for the licence.”Mute and shocked at the mysterious survival of Lila after eating the poisoned food, they both sat on the couch, thinking of a way out. “The maid! Mum, I think the maid knows something about this!” Grey exclaimed.“What about the maid? Why would you think she knows something about it?”“She was the only one downstairs when it happened. Think of it, mom. The food was in the dining room, but it ended up in the kitchen. I know what I'm saying. Laura is behind this.” Grey emphasised.“Laura!” Mrs. Shun shouted.“Yes, ma'am.” “To my room now.” Mrs. Shun instructed

Chapter 12The Evidence The sight of Grey standing before her only brought back terrible memories of her marriage. That night that he caused her first miscarriage was the most terrible night of her life she could ever forget. Remembering how Grey pushed her to the floor the moment she informed him that she had secured another job—at least one that could help them run the family before he continued searching for another job—was enough to make her despise him.“Oh, so now you're mocking me as a jobless man already, Lila.” He took the employment letter from her hands and tore it into pieces.“Grey, please, stop!” She screamed as she struggled to collect the letter from him.Grey deliberately pushed her onto the slippery tiles. Hitting her head badly, she lost consciousness immediately. Grey ignored her lying body on the floor and dashed out of the room. “Next time, you'll learn your lesson.”Lila was still lying half-dead on the floor thirty minutes after he left.“Unless I've gotten

“Here, you can have it now.” Without any greetings, Grey handed the papers over to Lila immediately she opened the door to him.Lila quickly opened the file to have a glance of the papers before she could utter anything.“Do you care for some breakfast?” Lila said with a light grin, wincing at him. Her mind was full of joy as she saw the unhiddened depression in Grey's face. She actually felt like laughing out loud for the torture she's giving him at the moment, but the respect she still hold for their union in the past won't allow her to do that. Grey centred a fierce look at her, he knew she was just trying to make a gesture of him. He nodded before he gave an answer, “No, thank you. So you think you can use food that easily and end my existence.”“Oh, my bad.” Lila responded reluctantly.“I was only trying to be nice and welcoming. I never knew your quaint mother has finally succeeded in conditioning your mind to this rotten belief that I'm after your life.”Grey's heart burnt as

It's your choice to still decide if you'd take the advice or not.” The expression on her face and her tone could send notes of anger to Lila. “Alright, what do you suggest I do now?” Lila stood and left her couch and sat closer to Charia before letting the question out again calmly. Charia was hesitant to reply. As if she's dumb, she stared at Lila without an eye blink. “Charia!” She trembled as Lila startled her out of her world of imagination. “I asked you a question,” “Oh! Sorry.” Charia wiped her face as one who just woke up from sleep. “Are you okay, at all?” Lila asked, panicked. It has been long she saw Charia lost in thoughts as this. “Y–yeah. I'm fine.” “I suggest you follow your mind. If left on your own, what would you have done?” Charia's soft tone echoed. After a moment of silence, “I'll leave the country.” Lila

She hissed and dropped the phone back on the table to continue her kitchen chores.“Just call and hear him out, first.” A voice within her persuaded her, and she reluctantly carried the phone and dialed Grey's contact.“Hey, Lila,” Grey called out and took a deep breath on the other end of the phone the moment Lila received the call.“Finally, thank God you picked up my call.” He said calmly.“What? I can't believe this is Grey talking.” Lila took the phone off her ear, increasing the screen brightness to check if truly it was Grey that was on the other end of the phone.“Wow! Her unceasing hissed dragged the attention of everyone in the minibus. They wondered what could be making a young and pretty woman as such to be hissing like one old woman who was thinking of the difference of life in the past and the hardship of the current times. What puzzled them most was that she doesn't look pregnant. Of course she has to be at the Grace hospital before 4:00 pm, or else she won't be able to see her father because the hospital rule is that visitation ends by 4 o'clock.Lila centered an angry gaze at the driver, who was driving at a moderate speed. You're in the right place. Pardon me for asking,” Mrs. Shun, who never ceased to raise her voice and display her bossy nature to Lila, suddenly turned into a stammerrer. She turned her face slowly to look at Ma'am Elena, who was seated beside Lila's father, and she saw the confusion in her face, which was very evident. They couldn't say anything to each other and communicated with only eye contact. “Gosh! I just hope that this girl hasn't been here for long listening to our conversation. Oh! We’re finished,” Mrs. Shun thought inwardly, and coincidentally, that was the same thought running through Elena's mind, but there was no way they could say a word to each other about what they think and how they feel. “Thank you for coming, Mrs. Shun. Cynthia rambled as soon as she got close to them and pushed Lila away from her husband's grip, which made her almost slip on the floor.Lila remained mute. She calmed herself down because she knew it would be pointless arguing with a demented woman.“Well, congratulations on your new achievement, Mr. & Mrs. Grey Shun. And to you, Mrs. Shun, I wish you a glamorous birthday. It's really nice meeting you, and I hope we meet again,” Lila said politely and sashayed back to her partner with her smiles, ignoring the bitter looks Cynthia was throwing at her.“I said it! I know Derrick can never be associated with any good person in this life!” She continued.“Enough! That I go dance with your good-for-nothing brother while you dance with your mistress?” You and your mother are so despicable, Grey!” She said hoarsely with teary red eyes and made an attempt to move.“Where do you think you're going?” Grey demanded while he held her wrist tightly, drawing her back with force.“Let go of my hands! It's all my fault! All this wouldn't have happened if I hadn't stepped in with the intention of salvaging the situation.” Lila added calmly, leering at Grey with a corner eye.She turned to Derrick and lifted his hands off her shoulders, shifting a seductive gaze at him. “De

He insisted until Lila smiled with her eyes as she continued to pick the berries on the table, chewing them slowly. “You know for sure that no woman would say no to a handsome man like you, right? And you shouldn't expect that from me either! But—the problem is, what if I'm only moved by your physical demeanor without having true feelings for you?” She asked with a polite smile. “I only need you to love me, Lila. The reason behind the love doesn't matter,” Derrick said reluctantly but with a serious face. “Except if you're with your escort already,” he added, his voice leaking with a hint of flirtatiousness and jealousy. “You know already that I can't be here with you if I were already married or engaged; moreover, I don't flirt,” Lila responded with a plain look. Soon, the commissioning ceremony started, and Lila saw a young lady whos

Just at first sight, she had pictured Lila as her rival already. “If you don't mind, can I at least take my guest to her seat?” Derrick said politely with a rich smile. “Sure. Make sure you give her the best treatment she deserves, please,” Mrs. Shun said with a smile, and Derrick's arm spread wide to receive Lila's hands. “Thanks, ma'am, it's really nice meeting you,” Lila returned the warm welcome with a mischievous smile, and her folded dimple didn't fail to captivate Derrick and Grey's hearts. Grey watched as Derrick and Lila walked towards the VIP seat. Swaying her waist deliberately, Lila's lips curled up with a smile at each step she took, not because Derrick was sounding funny but because she can't just imagine what must be going on in Grey and his wife's mind. She was gripped with fear; there was no way someone who had been declared dead some years ago would still be alive, right? “Well, I'm Cynthia, wife to the most handsome and richest man, as you can see, and thanks for gracing our occasion,” she said after heaving a sigh of relief, but the fear in her was still very evident. Lila nodded; the displeased frown on Grey's face for his wife's interruption was too evident to remain unnoticed by her, but that was her plan, by the way, so it gave her more satisfaction. The fear and doubt in Cynthia slowly dispelled when she quickly checked through her phone and confirmed from the pictures and the news about Lila'

The venue was filled with men and women of the hierarchy dining harmoniously as they celebrated the new accomplishment of the Shuns and Sims family. She felt her heart pounding in her chest whenever she saw their faces ignited with joy. The more she sees them wear a smile, the greater the pang of hatred and revenge burns in her heart.
