Chapter 5
I LOVE HIM
“No! This is absolute bull shit! She must be stupid to think that I'll agree to all these conditions!” Grey yelled, throwing the paper on the bedside table and hitting the walls with his hands over and over again.
The sound of his scream was so loud that it scared Cynthia who was in the kitchen with his mother. They ran upstairs to ask what was all the shouting for.
“She is trying my patience and pushing me to the wall. Just take a look at what she's demanding before she'll sign the papers. Her plan is to render me bankrupt, but that will never happen.” He handed the pieces of papers to Cynthia which they both read with his mother.
“Impossible! She wants to take over the company as well? I thought the company was in your name?” His mother asked.
“That's why I said it must be unreasonable to think that I'll just give her what she demands on a platter of gold. The company is mine and will forever be mine” Grey added, hitting the table with his hands.
Cynthia became lost in thoughts. She knew that she's only pretending to love him for the moment because of his possessions, which she's planning to gradually convince him to will them to her after their wedding, then she can get what she wants and travel out of the country.
They were altogether in the room, still digesting Lila's heavy conditions, when Grey's phone beeps with a message. He brought out the phone from his pocket and read the message.
“I need your response before the break of day tomorrow. And if you fail to agree to my conditions, be ready to watch yourself tomorrow in the air beauting me mercilessly which leads to my first miscarriage. And you know what that means right? You can be jailed for attempted murder.
“What a fuck! She's now threatening me.” He threw his phone on the bed, sat discovering his face with his palms, he sweat profusely in the cold evening.
“Wow! So Janell is his daughter? Could that be why he was ever supportive of her in all aspects?” Lila kept wondering how they've been able to conceal the secret with no one suspecting them. She scrolled through her phone checking the f******k page of Cynthia. Unbelievably, she came across a picture of Cynthia with a man and her daughter, cropping the man's face out, the caption reads ‘my complete world.” Even without seeing the face from the statue, Lila could clearly know that the man in the picture is her husband.
“Com'on girl, don't tell me you're still drenching in thought about these two people.?” Eucharia asked as she seized the phone from Lila.
“Oh, you can have your phone. You have a call from your stepmother.” Charia handed the phone back to her.
“Lila, please come to the hospital now! Your father was shot by a stray bullet.”
Lila and Charia left immediately to the general Hospital.
“Good evening ma, please I'm here to see one Mr. Sims that was rushed in this afternoon following a gunshot.” Cynthia greeted the attendant at the reception.
“How are you related to him?”
“He's my father. Please I need to see my father.” Lila added.
“He's in the ICU, ma” the attendant directed them to the ward.
On reaching there, she saw Grey and Cynthia seated outside. Deep down her heart, she wished she could just get a gun and end the life of those two immediately, but she quietly walked past them and went to check on her dying father.
“Oh, father, please wake up. I don't know how I'll survive if you leave me. Please wake up.” Lila cried, holding her father's hands.
“You witch! Why all the crocodile tears? Killing your mother was not enough for you, and now you want to kill your father as well?” Mrs Elena told Lila who was praying for her father.
“Excuse me, what do you mean by me killing my mother and now my father?” Lila turned angrily and faced her.
“Yes I'll say it over and over again. You killed your mother.”
“You fail to provide a man with what he needs. Now tell me, is it a crime for that man to love another woman who gives him happiness and peace? If not for your stupid reaction towards my daughter and Grey, nothing would have taken your father out of the house just to go and plead with you to forgive her.” Mrs Elena added.
Lila didn't say a word till she left the ICU. The only person she would have talked with was her father, but he's in pain and in another world.
On her way out of the hospital premises, Janell ran and hugged her tight.
“Big mummy, I've missed you. Why have you not been coming home since the day I and mummy came to your house?”
Lila was moved by the little girl’s concern and her eyes were full of water, but she managed and controlled the tears from flowing so as not to show her weakness.
Although she despises the mother, Janell is still innocent, and she's such a lovely child everyone will like at first sight.
“I'm sorry baby, I was out of town for some few days but I'll soon be back to the house. Just take care of daddy and your mummy.” Lila convinced the little girl to have some relief.
“Please, Lila, I'm sorry! A loud voice came from behind as Lila and Eucharia were about to kick off their car.
She turned and saw Cynthia running towards her.
“Please, forgive us. In all you'll do, I'm begging you to still remember that you once loved him and I'm still your sister. Please, I'll take all the punishments you want to give, but just forgive Grey.”
“I hate you Cynthia! That's all I can tell you for now.” Lila entered the car and jammed the door. Wining up the window glasses, Cynthia threw a paper to her in the car. Lila carried the paper and read.
“You can hate me but please, give a second thought to the divorce conditions you gave Grey. I still love him and I'm carrying his second child already.
Chapter 6 moving on“Why do you have to run after that witch and beg her? Don't tell me you're afraid of her already.” Grey questioned Cynthia as she came back, looking sorry.“Believe me, she's just an empty talking drum. She can do nothing.” He added. After a long gaze, Cynthia nodded her head in agreement with his statements.“I know, but you can never underestimate the words of an angry woman, especially when it has to do with her marriage.” Cynthia's mind was overpowered by fear.Grey drew her closer, placing one hand on her belly and the other around her waist. He gave her a passionate kiss on the forehead.“You're my world, honey, and I'll always be there for you and our children. Don't mind that ugly sister of yours; I know how to handle her.” He concluded, and Cynthia heaved a sigh of relief, but deep down in her mind, she's afraid for her unborn child. She went into the ward to meet her mother, who was seated beside her dying father.“I'm sorry, Daddy. I'm sorry that you h
Chapter 7Flashback Ten years ago, driven with excitement and joy at securing admission to the university and running to share the good news with her father, poor Lila saw herself on the ground, lying helpless, as she got hit by a speeding vehicle.“Hey, are you okay? I'm sorry, my dear.” She heard the consoling voice of a man from behind, trying to lift her.“Thank you so much, sir. I'm fine. I'll just walk carefully down the street, Lila replied.“Com'on, I can walk you home if you want. Besides, I'm Grey Shun, also a newly admitted student.” He extended his hands for a handshake with Lila.Lila became nervous, feeling too shy to look at his face. How lucky was she to have attracted the compassion of such a handsome man? Yes, Grey is the pure definition of handsomeness. It is hard for a group of four girls to see him, and three will not have an instant desire for him.Since the death of her mother, a great gap has been created between Lila and love. Her father was so affected by th
Chapter 8Lila, being a good and considerate daughter-in-law, heeds her soon-to-be mother-in-law's plight and strategizes a way to balance family life and work.In her traditionally white and long train wedding dress, the most handsome man stood in front of her, rallying his hands over her waist. He locked his tongue into hers, giving her a passionate kiss.“Thank you for officially accepting the call into Shun's family. My love for you knows no bounds.” Grey confessed, and their tongues were locked into each other again. Gently landing her on the new sofa, specially bought and dressed with new bed sheets for their wedding night, he unhooked the wedding dress and all her inners, revealing the captivating figure eight that has been getting all men's attention in skirts. That was the sweetest and the only best day Lila could talk of when it came to her marriage with Grey.As the good wife that she is, Lila woke up as early as five o’clock and made her first breakfast for Shun's family b
Chapter 9Little Witch Grey was confused at how things were just turning around within seconds. “Did I do wrong by marrying Lila?” He questioned himself.“And if at all you're interested in the explanation, do well by calling that little witch of a wife to come down as well.” The voice was added.“Mum, I never knew you were awake. I thought you were still sleeping. Sorry, mom, how're you feeling now?” Grey asked, stepping forward to hold his mother's hands as she struggled to bring herself to the living room.“I'm sorry, I was in a business meeting with our foreign clients when Ann informed me. of your predicament, so I had to tell my wife to rush down to the hospital immediately to check on you.”“Grey, you know why I'm out here. I'm not here to answer your greetings or tell you how I feel now. I heard you demanding an explanation from Ann, so I think it would be best if you could get the attention of the subject in question. Mrs. Shun replied.“Mum, where is all this coming from?
Chapter 10.It is Finished In the quiet hours of the evening, Lila sat down on the veranda of Shun's mansion, watching how the leaves of the tree were dancing to the blowing breeze. With her glass of wine, she sat and read her favourite novel, thinking of the tribulations she was facing in her marriage.“Had she known that things would go as sour as this, she wouldn't have rushed to marry at all; perhaps she would have been lucky to marry someone who deserves her true love and will treat her like a queen.” She thought to herself. From afar, she saw her husband driving in as the gate was opened by security. Just before he could finish parking the car, his mother came out of the backyard and went to welcome her son. They talked for a few minutes before proceeding to the entrance of the house.“I'm sure she's reporting what happened today to her son," Lila thought.Fear gripped her because she was scared of how her husband would react. “If he could be so mad at me when she lied that I
“Nothing seems to affect her, Mom. It has been over five hours now since she ate, and she's still looking strong and healthy.” Grey lamented in panic. With her mouth wide open in shock, Mrs. Shun asked, “Are you sure you poisoned the food?”“Of course, yes. She's not an ordinary human, maybe.”“Could it be that she saw you when you were mixing the poison?” His mother asked again.“Not at all! Lila was searching for the licence.”Mute and shocked at the mysterious survival of Lila after eating the poisoned food, they both sat on the couch, thinking of a way out. “The maid! Mum, I think the maid knows something about this!” Grey exclaimed.“What about the maid? Why would you think she knows something about it?”“She was the only one downstairs when it happened. Think of it, mom. The food was in the dining room, but it ended up in the kitchen. I know what I'm saying. Laura is behind this.” Grey emphasised.“Laura!” Mrs. Shun shouted.“Yes, ma'am.” “To my room now.” Mrs. Shun instructed
Chapter 12The Evidence The sight of Grey standing before her only brought back terrible memories of her marriage. That night that he caused her first miscarriage was the most terrible night of her life she could ever forget. Remembering how Grey pushed her to the floor the moment she informed him that she had secured another job—at least one that could help them run the family before he continued searching for another job—was enough to make her despise him.“Oh, so now you're mocking me as a jobless man already, Lila.” He took the employment letter from her hands and tore it into pieces.“Grey, please, stop!” She screamed as she struggled to collect the letter from him.Grey deliberately pushed her onto the slippery tiles. Hitting her head badly, she lost consciousness immediately. Grey ignored her lying body on the floor and dashed out of the room. “Next time, you'll learn your lesson.”Lila was still lying half-dead on the floor thirty minutes after he left.“Unless I've gotten
Chapter 1Divorced on my birthday “Honey, you've not said anything since we got here. You neither compliment my dress nor comment on my food,” Lila said.Grey kept mute, as though she were talking to a ghost, not even lifting his eyes and looking at her.“I suppose today should be my happy day. You brought up the idea of us coming here to spend some time alone, and now you're staring at me without a word? Are we doing a retreat?” Lila was losing patience with the serene environment.“You would have allowed me to party with friends rather than with this attitude you're giving me now.”“Enough of the talk already, Lila!” Grey yelled at her, dropping his spoon on the table.“In fact, I'm done! I'm done with you. You and I know that there's no chemistry between us.” Standing up, he ducked his hands into his pocket, brought out a piece of paper, and handed it over to her.“Ensure you go through those papers and sign the divorce. If there's anything you don't understand, you can contact my
