*****

The rhythmic sound of hurrying feet echoes against the polished linoleum floors of the precinct. Officer Martinez felt the weight of an exhausting day pulling at his shoulders as he headed towards the exit with Officer Riley and Officer Sam. They had just finished a tense raid on a known drug den, which officer Leo left them to handle. After they were done in the precinct, they decided to head over to the hospital where detective Ling was operated on.

As they stepped outside,Martinez phone buzzes violently in his pocket. He pulls it out, the screen lighting up with a message from Leo that stops his heart from racing:

“ How was it? Oh .. Detective Ling is stable now, her surgery went well.”

“Did you hear that?” Leo exclaimed, his voice carrying excitement.

Riley’s eyes widened. “What? Is she okay?”

“Her surgery was successful. But I don't think she is able to entertain guest, do I'll go see her alone”, Martinez said.

“We need to go see her too, we won't cause trouble. She is lik

AUNT MEI'S RESIDENCE The day begins to break, with the sun peeking over the horizon, casting a sleepy glow across the quiet neighborhood. Early birds chirps, greeting the new day, but in Aunt Mei’s cozy kitchen, the only sounds were the gentle crackling of the stovetop and the rhythmic clinking of utensils. Aunt Mei, in her late fourties, with streaks of silver threading through her dark hair, moves about her kitchen with a sense of urgency. She is busy preparing breakfast for her daughter, Detective Ling, who had been involved in a serious incident last night.Last night’s call from Officer Martinez had shaken her to her core. The words echoed in her head as she flipped pancakes and fried eggs. “She’s stable, her surgery was successful. I'll advice you come visit her early in the morning.” The gravity of the situation made her fingers tremble slightly as she poured the batter in the pan. Aunt Mei had always been against Ling joining the police force. Even with the strong reasons co

*****“Like I got shot,” Ling replies the nurse with a smirk.“Fair enough,” the nurse chuckles.“You’re recovering well. The doctor will check on you shortly. In the meantime, I just need to make sure everything is stable.”As she took Ling's vitals, Leo watches the nurse carrying out her duty and the way she interact with Ling, her tone one of both care and confidence. It was obvious Mei was in good hands.“ Another nurse might come in later to check on you, meanwhile I will advice you let her rest a while to speed up her recovery”, the nurse suggested, staring at the gentlemen present in the room.“ Rest up detective, you have a lot of healing to do” she said, making her way out of the room. They thanked the nurse for her service before she left. Ling tries arranging her sleeves down after receiving her injection. She suddenly remembers in her present state, that if her aunty should find out about her situation, she will be chopped.“ I hope my aunty doesn't know that I'm here. I'd

I haven't seen this side of her before”, Martinez said , stretching the stiffness off his body. After exiting Ling's room, the four of them made their way into the parking lot where Martinez car is being parked. “I parked over here,” he said, taking the lead and gesturing towards the silver sedan nestled among the rows of vehicles.“You’re still the same guy who thinks he can park in the front row because you’re an officer, huh?” joked Leo prompting a laughter that lightens the mood as they followed Martinez.Once in the car, Martinez exchanges glances with Leo. Leo on the other hand, runs his hand through his hair but suddenly catches his glance and quickly removes his eyes, knowing what will come next.Settled in the car, Martinez turns the key in the ignition, and the engine starts , punctuating the silence that had settled in after their banter. ****Leo, Riley , Sam and Martinez made their way into the precinct building. Officer Martinez adjusted the collar of his crisp navy blue uniform, taking in the familiar sights and sounds of the precinct. The Central Precinct pulsed with energy, a hive of activity where every officer had a role to play in the intricate law enforcement. The scent of freshly brewed coffee hung in the air, mingling with the sound of ringing phones and the hurried footsteps of officers on their way to various assignments. They started making their way to their own post while greeting and saluting other fellow officers.“ You two should return to your post, before you are sanctioned”, Leo orders Riley and Sam.“ Okay sir”, they echoed together, returning to their post.Just then, Officer Collins, a veteran cop whose straightforward demeanor commanded respect. He approaches Leo and Martinez with a serious look in his eyes, his brow slightly furrowed. “Hey, Leo, Martinez” he said, his tone low and urgent. “

*****Martinez adjusted his seat to ease his uncomfortability. His eyes became fixed at the chief's eyes.“Chief,” he replies, his tone measured, “it’s best if Leo doesn’t find out. His reaction might not help the case.” Chief Peterson became a little shocked considering Martinez’s words carefully. Leo was a good officer, but he was also passionate—sometimes too passionate for his own good. The chief had seen Leo’s anger flare when it came to criminals related crimes; it could easily cloud his judgment. “And you think he would go off the rails if he found out?” Peterson asked, curiosity piqued. “Not off the rails, exactly,” Martinez said, his voice dropping slightly as if sharing a secret. “But Leo has a history with Vinnie’s gang. It was his first case and up till ow, he is not able to catch them. More importantly, they hurt people he cares about. If he finds out we have one of them in custody, he might try to confront him directly. That could jeopardize the investigation.” Pet

*****Officer Martinez! You can't use force during an interrogation. Let go off him!”, chief Peterson commands, his voice echoing off the walls of the interrogation room. Martinez, still brimming with anger, reluctantly releases Marco, feeling the anger surge through him as he turns away from the table. The gravity of the situation weighs heavily on him; Detective Ling, a respected and well-liked member of their precinct, had endured unimaginable violence. The thought that someone could plan to dismiss her life without permission….."And you," Chief Peterson continues, his voice steady but stern, “Don't think you can easily evade the consequences of your actions. Even if you choose not to disclose Vinnie's whereabouts, rest assured, we have the means to find him.“With his hands stuffed deep in his pockets, Peterson maintains a calm demeanor, attempting to intimidate Marco into revealing the truth. Martinez, however, is barely holding back his rage. “You think that's a valid excuse
