The "mate" they heard was from Joshua. The reason it affected Alia and Jake is simply because they are worried for their pups (and I'm sure Clair and Gavin felt the same too), but it was not anything like a bond or something that is shared between parents (only fated mates can feel emotions between them). The big showdown you are waiting for is approaching. I see some people stating that the story is dragging and taking too long to get to the point. This is the Claiming, and this is the whole point of the Claiming. It will be harder to explain all the events that will take place in the coming chapters without all the others I have written before. But thank you for hanging in there and trusting me and process! 💜💜💜
TYLER. I met Brandon along the way after I left Eugene, and we have not encountered anyone so far. It had been so calm for a long time already that I was starting to worry. My only consolation was that Catherine found Zoey. At least, she was not alone. I hoped she would never encounter Maddox because I wanted to be the one to face him. I didn’t want Catherine alone with him or for him to add more torture to her. She had more than enough of him. I patted Brandon’s back before I spoke to him. “Let’s run. I have a feeling my female is already at the end, and Vicky might be there already.” He just nodded, and we began to amp up our pace until we were running, threading through the dark and deep forest with just one goal in mind — the end of the arena. By this time, we were already passing couples who were walking hand in hand, and although I was happy for them, I couldn’t help but feel a pang of jealousy cross my chest. I wish ours was just as simple: enter the arena, find each oth
ALPHA MADDOX. The days after Catherine went missing were not easy. My wolf was weak for a few days before he was able to regain energy. I had checked many books written to explain the mate bond and rejection, but I couldn't fathom why Catherine's rejection backfired. All books explain that the pain is carried by the one doing the rejection unless an Alpha demands to carry the pain on behalf of the one rejecting him. And I was sure I didn't ask for it. I even told her to carry all the effects of what she did. Yet the pain I experienced was so great that I passed out after accepting her rejection. And my wolf became too weak. But it was all in the past. I had more things to focus on. I found out that the Galharts had taken Catherine home. I should have expected that, as she went missing just as her family was leaving. I just couldn’t believe my fucking people didn’t see her get out of the border, and no matter what footage Kenzo checked, they couldn’t see anyone crossing the pe
BETA XANDER.I was getting tired of walking through the forest. Not that I was not fond of nature, but I just wanted the night to end and find Nadine. If I hadn’t met Catherine and gotten to know her on the three days she was in our territory, I would have ditched this whole thing and just made up a reason why I could not enter the arena and spend the whole night with my mate instead. But my conscience would not allow me to just abandon the female who kept fighting to get away from Maddox’s clutch, something my mother was not able to do.‘Where are you?’ The Alpha dug into my head.‘I don’t know.’ I tried to sound alert, but I was fucking tired of his scheme.‘Can you check Gray by the stream and see if there is news about Andrew? I saw Zoey almost at the end of the arena. I don’t want him anywhere near her.’My hands coiled into fists, but I kept my emotions in check while I listened to him. He asked me to take two syringes and give them to Gray. Of course, he didn’t want his hands
BETA XANDER. “Let her go!” A loud voice roared in the air as all eyes shifted to the man who had just arrived and stood behind Tyler. The same man I almost bumped into earlier I was hoping he was an Alpha, but his aura was weak. Weaker than mine. Why the fuck do I get Betas? Where are all the fucking Alphas? His hand loosened around Alice’s throat as he chuckled. “Look, who do we have here? Another one who wants Catherine. Maybe I should let you and Beta Tyler have a showdown first?” “Let her go!” He repeated at the same time Alice asked. “Are you claiming Catherine?” Pain flashed in Alice’s eyes as the man’s face softened. “Did I fucking ask you to speak?” Maddox roared, and his clasp on her neck tightened, making her choke again. “Fuck you!” The man growled, as did Tyler, while my body jerked up. In seconds, the man was already beside me. I almost wanted to hit Maddox as I was nearer, but he immediately loosened his grip again and laughed. “You are claiming Catherine, and
BETA ANDREW. The long walk from the stream to the end took too much of a toll on me. I was known for my stamina, but whatever poison they put into my food was strong. But I was thankful I was still standing. I threw up almost my whole intestine earlier and drank too much water, but both actions provided relief and helped me regain my balance. In the end, young Alpha Walker asked Wentworth to connect with his Alpha, Alpha Ledger, to meet us, as I needed to be at the end of the arena. Alpha Walker decided to stay behind to make sure that Alpha Gray would not be able to recover or cause more damage or harm to anyone. Along the way, we met Arlo before we finally crossed paths with Alpha Ledger, who said he had not encountered anyone so far and was already bored inside the forest. They volunteered to put me on their backs so we could speed the trail to the end, but my fucking ego didn’t want to. I was here to claim my female, and I wanted her to be proud that I did run, walk, and d
BETA XANDER. “Stay where you are and tell Tyler to go to the end of the arena.” Maddox’s voice rang in the air, and I could see the victory on his face. I wanted to mock him for his cowardly ways, hiding behind a female to make the others do his bidding. But I was just as cowardly as him. I couldn’t make my move. I felt fucking useless. I was torn between saving the females from these arenas and the pack I had grown to love. “I can’t do that! I can’t force the Beta to do that!” Joshua said. Alice closed her eyes, but I saw the pain in them before she did. “Are you not an Alpha, Alpha Joshua? Or maybe she was just not as important as I thought she was to you.” The hand on Alice’s neck moved, tilting her head up. Alpha? He’s an Alpha. But why was his aura lower than mine? I kept my eyes from dilating as my heartbeat picked up its pace. “Alpha Joshua…” I mumbled so low, but I didn’t look at anyone as I moved near Maddox. I was glad he didn’t stop me. He probably needed someone by
TYLER. Brandon and I trod the remainder of the forest, and just when I could pick up the noise of the industrial generator, another bump on the road showed up. Eugene. He stood in front of us as his eyes dilated. “Beta to Beta.” “We’re two. You’re only one,” I said calmly. “So?” He answered arrogantly. “Joshua already raised the white flag and would not be Claiming Catherine,” I added. “So?” “What the fuck is wrong with you?” Brandon snapped at him. “Joshua doesn’t want her anymore, but I do.” He said mockingly, but he was not able to finish his words when I leaped in the air and landed a punch on the bridge of his nose, making him growl as he dropped to his ass. I didn’t care if it was a joke or not. I could still vividly hear his remark about Catherine when I crossed paths with him earlier. I shouldn’t have left him until he was unconscious and tied him to the top of the tallest tree so no one could find him after the Claiming. Brandon held my shoulder. “Go. I can
(YOUNG) ALPHA JOSHUA. I watched as Kairo and Cyrus tied Alpha Maddox and Julian’s bodies with vines while Xander requested that only his hands at the back be tied. He said he had no intention of fighting as he was still under my command. He was lying. I was so focused on Alice that my mind wasn’t functioning well earlier. I had never thought about it, not that I had never used it. I did — many times before, especially when I wanted to have fun but was not able to when I needed to. And I had no idea why the Beta was lying. But I didn’t say anything, as everything turned out in my favor — he saved my ego and Alice. My heart clenched in pain as I watched the petite female in my arms. She was unconscious, and yet her forehead was creased as if she were upset or furious. I wondered if she ever had a serene moment in her life. Because I never did. That may be the reason Selene paired us up. I never ran in her circle, but people talked, and I saw how she always pushed herself
