His eyes strained from the darkness of the forest, his lungs burned as he forced air into his lungs and the sharp claws of his feet dug deep into the muddy floors of the forest. Alpha Liam may not be the fastest in the pack but his one of the strongest Devonlaire ever had.
Liam was beyond angry, he was enraged by what happened back at the mansion. It was past midnight and he should be in the comforts of his own bed right now, but here he is, running like crazy deep into the forest, seeking refuge in his sanctuary like the coward that he is.
His anger was directed towards Ember who had the audacity to act like she was the queen of the pack. He already hated the fact that he has no choice but to marry her, and now she was acting like a bitch that she really is.
His movements were lightning-fast as he climb up that hill. He was in his wolf form.
Once there, he sniffed the air to determine whether there was another creature aside from him, and when he found no traces of any scent, Liam let out an angry howl that will be heard in all of Bresmont. A howl that was enough for the other werewolves in the area to cower.
With the moon high and bright in the night sky of Bresmont, the night air was cold enough to chill one’s heart, Liam let out all his pent-up emotions. These emotions bubbled the surface of his heart, unable to really release them. And now he let it all out, howling and growling at his heart’s content. He let out his grief, his anger, and his longing for Natasha.
He felt hopeless and useless, being an Alpha of one of the strongest packs in the realm should give him the power to do whatever he wants, but it was the opposite. He’s a puppet and a fool. He’s nothing but a slave.
Liam transformed back into his human form once he felt the exhaustion. He stood there at the peak of the hill, naked as the day he was born while the moon shone at him with pity. His shoulder-length hair was being blown by the cold wind.
With the moon’s light, Liam stood there with his magnificent physique, a sight to behold. If one could only see the apparition, one would think that he’s perfect, but he’s nothing like that. He’s damaged and beyond repair.
A rustling of leaves snapped Liam out of his trance. His senses immediately alerted and looked behind him as he squinted his eyes at the dark forest.
When he took in the scent of the creature, his nerves relaxed.
“Thought I found you here.” A voice said and came to reveal himself from the dark.
Kean, his younger brother emerged from the shadows of the forest. He was fully clothed and in his hand were two bottles of cold beer. There’s a carefree smile plastered on his ruggedly handsome face.
Liam grimaced but didn’t respond to his brother. He was still a little pissed with Kean for what he did back at the council house. Liam thought that his brother was with him when he said he didn’t want another bride.
“What are you doing here?” Liam asked as he went to stare back at the view before him, a glittering view of Bresmont. The place looked just like an ordinary city with huge lights during the night, but in Bresmont’s case, it was dominated by werewolves and not humans.
Kean shrugged, open the bottle of beer, and gave on to Liam.
It took a few seconds before Liam accepted the bottle.
“You needed my company, so I came,” Kean answered casually like he didn’t witness something bloody that transpired inside Liam’s room.
Kean never liked the fact that the council forced his brother to remarry. But when he saw Ember fight Liam, Kean came to realize that they needed such strong Luna in the pack. Not that he betrayed his brother, but Kean thought that it would be for the better, especially now that there’s a threat again from the werewolves hunters. Kean was actually amazed at how Ember effortlessly dodged every attack his brother made.
“I wanted to be alone, brother.”
“Well, sorry to tell you but I’m staying until I finished my beer. The pack's house is far from here, and I’m exhausted looking for you.” He raised the bottle before chugging the contents.
Liam let out a heavy sigh.
“She smells sweet,” Kean uttered.
The two looked at the beautiful scenery before them. On that very hill, where Natasha’s ashes were scattered in the air, they can see in a bird’s eye view the night lights of Bresmont.
Their district was known for its preserved old structure, but it also has a modern touch with the busy streets and high-rise buildings. A modern world dominated by mythical creatures.
Liam frowned, confused as to what his brother was talking about.
Kean chuckled when he saw the confusion on his brother’s face. Did Liam didn’t notice the sweet scent coming from the dried blood on his body? They were Ember’s, and he can smell how sweet it was.
“I can smell her blood and her scent from you. Haven’t you noticed it? Or just ignored how good she smells. With all the blood on you, I can’t believe you haven’t noticed it.”
Liam’s face turned red and he let out a low growl, a warning.
“Watch what you’re saying, Kean. I am still your Alpha.” Liam threatened his brother.
But Kean didn’t even flinch. Caring less about the anger of his brother.
“I took her to the infirmary, Brynn treated her wounds. She’s bleeding profusely and she’s not healing.” Kean informed Liam.
For some reason unknown to Liam, he felt a slight tug of concern upon hearing that Ember was in pain because of the wounds he inflicted. Even though he knew Ember had dodged almost all of his attacks, he was still able to hit her a few times.
He looked at himself, there were no traces of wounds on his skin except that blade that was made from wolfsbane. He’s fully recovered and Ember’s not. It’s all because of an Alpha wound.
“Father was furious and mother was worried, thought you might want to know what happened after you took off.” Kean continued to feed him information that he didn’t want to hear.
Liam didn’t respond, it’s best to shut his mouth up, especially now that he’s still angry. He was pissed because of the wedding, this is literally his most hated Day.
“I am not interested, Kean. Just stop.”
Kean, once again, shrugged his shoulders.
“Don’t be so hard on our new Luna, brother. Marrying you was already hard for her, go easy on her.”
Liam scoffed, his brother talks like he knows that bitch.
“So, you already accepted her as the new Luna, huh? And don’t forget that you almost betrayed me in front of the council, I have not forgotten that, Kean.” There was a hint of sarcasm in Liam’s voice.
“It’s for the best, Liam. You know to yourself that it’s for the best, you just can’t accept that it has to be this way. With hunters and witches as our enemies, we needed all the help we could use, and Ember is one big help. Once you marked her, our pack will be stronger, and we can beat those fucking hunters. You saw how she fought, she’s strong, fast, and powerful, we could use that. I hate to say this but, at this point, Natasha couldn’t help you, Ember could.”
Kean chugged all the remaining contents of the bottle before he threw it on the side. He tapped Liam’s shoulder and wrapped his arms around his broad shoulders.
Liam knew all of that, it was the main reason why it pissed him big time.
“C’mon, let’s go back. Your balls are chilling, Alpha.” Kean laughed at his own words.
Liam just shook his head, feigning annoyance.
Though he can’t admit it, his brother was always the calmer and reserved one between the two of them. He, on the other hand, was much more of a beast.
Liam grabbed a stash of pants that hung in one of the tree branches and put it on before heading back to the mansion.
And, no, he’s still not going to go easy on Ember. He’s not yet done with her. She’s going to suffer as long as she stays married to him.
It’s been almost a week since she moved to Bresmont. She was originally living in the castle as one of the Lycan King’s elite soldiers and the strongest amongst the rest in Devonlaire. When her father said that she was chosen by the council to be wed to a grumpy, old Alpha, Ember couldn’t seem to understand why they chose her. She’s already committed to serving the King, but then when the King agreed, Ember could not say no anymore. She just has to deal with it. After all, she really has no say in anything in this realm dominated by Alphas. Ember knew she will regret it.And now she’s suffering from his icy stares and cold treatment whenever they bumped into each other. Not that she minded being ignored by the Alpha, she just can’t figure out how William Ashdown became an Alpha of the Pack. He’s a bit childish and immature for his age. For Ember, Liam is not suitable to be an Alpha. He mainly uses his emotions and not his brain and instincts.“There you are! I practically looked for y
Ember was lost for words at what she saw in front of her. Her heart pumped a little bit than it should as she scanned the young wolves lined up on a platform. She estimated their age ranges from thirteen to sixteen, so young but also very determined to learn how to combat and protect the realm. Her heart was filled with adoration for these young wolves because she was once like them. Though she really was not into fighting and self-defense before, she learned to love it since it will ensure the safety of the people of Devonlaire.“So, how do you like this place? I thought you might like it here since you are part of the King’s soldiers.” Solana crossed her arms in front of her chest as she looked at those young recruits with pride. We trained them and taught them how to be strong. Because we all know not werewolves were born with the ability to fight, some of them were omegas, but they are learning.” Solana explained.“Wow, this place is so beautiful. Where is this place? Is it outsid
Liam got out of his car the moment they arrived back at the mansion. He has a lot of questions running inside his head and it agitates him that he has no answers for them, only Ember can answer those questions. That means he has to talk to her now, not a good idea for him since he has been doing great avoiding her.“Alpha, Fulker deployed additional soldiers on the west border. Craig already brought the new recruits into the camp for the registration, he said your presence was needed there.”Javier, one of Bresmont’s elite soldiers told Liam as they made their way inside the mansion. He almost forgot about the new recruits this week. He has a lot of things on his mind right now, and the thing that occupies his mind the most was how to avoid Ember at all costs.Liam nodded in approval. “Good, I will be there in a minute. I just had to talk to the Luna for a moment.” Yes. He calls Ember luna. She doesn’t want to rise issues about treating her badly. He realized that after their fight on
Ember was confused why Liam wanted to talk to her in private. Since she arrived here Liam never showed interest in talking to her, much more in a private place like his office. She knew that his office and his room were the same. It was just separated by a wall, but have connection doors. Moreover, he always made her feel that she was not welcome in this place and that he doesn’t give a fuck as to what she was going to do.She went to shower and changed her clothes first since she was bathed in sweat after the training. Ember was debating whether what she will wear in front of Liam.“Why am I doing this?” Ember shook her head and pulled on the first shirt her hand got hold of and put it on. She never really paid much attention to her looks. She doesn’t care whether she wears the nicest dress in the crowd or not, until now.As she made her way to Liam’s office, Ember was really nervous. Her knees were like jellies. She never got nervous when she was in the field to fight, but Liam was
“Are you sure you don’t want me to go with you?”It was the third time Solana asked her that question, and for the third time, Ember just nodded and smiled at Solana.“I’m good, Sol. You don’t have to go with me, you are needed at the camp. Don’t worry too much about me, Sol. No one’s interested in taking me down, I am not someone who is special to the Alpha. I’m just a substitute Luna.” Ember tapped Sol’s shoulder as she hopped inside her car.She was summoned by her father to Devonlaire, and Ember wanted to go alone. Solana on the other hand was somehow worried about her security to which Ember just laugh. Having someone to protect her doesn’t make sense for Ember. She doesn’t need protection since she’s so capable of defending herself, she’s a member of the King’s soldiers, and that alone was enough security for Ember.Solana held the car’s door, preventing Ember from closing it. Ember looked up at Sol and smiled again. She appreciated her concern for her, and Ember is really thank
As Ember drove back to Bresmont, she had a lot of things going on inside her mind. What transpired inside her father’s study kept on rolling inside her head and a lot of questions keeps on popping out. What does her father up to? If he wants her to be marked as soon as possible, then he must be planning something. And that plan must have something to do with her. Or maybe he was using her to get to the bigger picture.Whatever her father’s plan is, Ember was sure that it was not going to be a good one.Pain clawed her heart as she remember how her father insulted her right in front of her face. All her life she was a puppet to her father, and sometimes it feels like she’s not even his daughter. Even how much she tried to convince herself that she was used to it already and that she won’t be affected anymore, there was always a part of her that yearns for a father’s love. Something that Arnulf Jacobson can’t give to her daughter.Forced Liam to mark her? Ember can’t believe what her fa
“Where is she?”Liam’s irritation was bubbling on the surface. He made it clear that dinner will be at exactly seven this evening since his parents will be visiting and joining them. Ember was already fifteen minutes late, and he wanted to pull and drag her out of wherever she is right now.“I’m not yet that starving, we can wait for a little. Besides, we need to discuss the killings on the north border, we can do that now while waiting for the Luna. Have you checked the area, son?”Chris, the former Alpha of Bresmont sat at the center of the long table. His wife, Esme, the former Luna was on his left side while Liam sat on his right side of Chris.Chris looked regal in his gray hair and fine suit. The absence of wrinkles on his face made him look more appealing and younger than his actual age. Esme, on the other hand, looks like royalty with her hair tied into a french bun and she wore an emerald green dress with elbow-length sleeves. Her face was fresh, no one would believe that she
“Physical pain makes us weak. It reduces our ability to think straight, thus making it an advantage for our enemies. Pain is part of being a warrior, through that pain we are honed to be the best fighters, through the pain we thought of death and thus need to survive. That is why as a warrior, we need to be able to endure pain, not just endure it but embrace it. We are werewolves and we are blessed with the gift to heal faster than any of the creatures in this realm. Think of pain as a strength and not a weakness.”Ember was talking in front of the new recruits, though it was still a mystery to her why there were so many young werewolves who wants to be trained as a warrior. She understands that there’s a serious threat right now, but the numbers are weird for her.On her left, Solana was standing in her full combat gear together with Aron, the Beta of the pack, and Alex. Tanya was also there, but all she ever do was glare at Ember whenever she got a chance, and Ember just ignored her
It’s been a month since Ember happened to escape from the cruelty of werewolf hunters and within those days it was eerily quiet and peaceful in all of Devonlaire. It was something that Ember finds weird and worrisome. She knew that those hunters and witches were just hiding somewhere, plotting unimaginable things on how to eliminate them.Ember felt two warm and strong arms circling her waist and Liam’s fresh scent assaulted her senses. He buried his face in the space between her neck and shoulder, and Ember can’t help but let out a laugh when his stubbles tickled her skin.“Liam! I’m sweaty all over!” Ember protested. She’s sweaty from her sparring with Yuri. After Yuri escaped the fire, Ember saw her change. She’s now determined to learn the art of fighting and Ember will give her anything just
Somewhere deep in the forest outside the walls of Bresmont, a group of werewolf hunters gathered to take refuge in a cave that was not inhabited by any creatures. After the chaos that happened in the camp, few survivors were able to escape and that includes their leader, Robert Kingston, and his sister, Rolyn.A loud cry reverberated through the walls of the cave as Rolyn cried in pain. She was chained to the wall, blood dripping from her wounds while Robert punished her.“Please, stop,” she begged him to stop. But Robert has no plans in listening to his little sister. She’s been a pain in the ass, and now Robert got full of her dumbness.Robert laughed. “You want me to stop?” An edge of mockery can be heard in his tone.Robert went to Rolyn and grabbed her hair forcefully so that she
“Are yous sure you can do this?”Liam asked Ember for the third time. He’s not entirely convinced that Ember is already fit to go to Devonlaire.Ember took the passenger’s seat while Liam slid into the driver’s seat. The Council of Claws had Ember summoned to Devonlaire. The Lycan King wanted to personally talk to Ember about her experience while she was captured by the hunters, something Liam was opposed to.Ember gave Liam a tight smile as she buckled up. She propped herself towards Liam who was starting to revive the engine.“You worry too much, Alpha. Have you forgotten that I defeated a whole army of hunters and find my way back to Bresmont?” There was an edge of pride in her voice. “Standing in front of the council and the King will not have me budge.”Emb
Ember often asked herself before if soulmates were true. Is it really true that the Moon Goddess grants every werewolf a mate, someone who will be with them for the rest of their lives?Ember never really thought that she has a soulmate, until now. She believed that Liam is her soulmate. It may sound weird but she can feel it, deep inside her she can feel how Liam clawed and caged her heart.Liam pushed Ember to lie on the bed, Ember didn’t protest at all. They were both consumed by the fire that they were feeling. Though she finds it weird that Liam is this aggressive towards her, she just went with the flow, she likes it anyway.A soft moan escaped from her mouth when Liam slipped his lips to her neck. His body was pressed against her and she could feel how hard he is right now. Liam’s hands were all over her, squeezing, caressing, and feeling her every skin
Ember woke up in an unfamiliar room. The blinding lights made it hard for her to see where she actually was, but the scent was quite familiar to her.High ceiling, huge, comfortable bed, and the scent of someone she knew assaulted her senses when she turned and buried her face in the pillow.“Oh, god!” She groaned. Pain shot through her body when she tried to move out of bed. Then she remembered everything that happened. The hunters attack Bresmont, she was captured and taken to their camp and she was tortured. She escaped. She remembered it all too vividly, how she killed almost all of those hunters in the camp and how much she tried to go back to Bresmont despite the wounds she sustained. She strained her eyes and let them roam around the room. The design was familiar.Liam. She can smell Liam's scent
“He’s out of his mind.” Chris closed and rubbed his eyes in frustration and annoyance. How can Liam, an Alpha of one of the districts of Devonlaire, go to ask help from a witch? Sure, that witch was not like the others who like to wreck chaos in the realm, but dealing with them is prohibited, not if the King permits. And given Liam’s situation right now where the King wanted him to go back to Bresmont, it will be a disaster.“Someone has to stop him, or else we will all be dragged by this. We all know how cruel the Lycan King is. He’s not gonna take this easy.” Kean was edgy. “We need to go now.” He glanced at Solana who was also pacing back and forth, uneasiness was consuming her.“Go. Bring him here. Drag him if you must.” Chris pursed his lips into a thin line. This is what h
“Damn you, Liam!” Kean cursed when he tried to connect with Liam again through their mind link but he was already blocked by the Alpha. “Hard-headed asshole!”Kean felt hopeless as she tried again, but to no avail. His brother is really determined to save the Luna all by himself, even with the King’s command not to find Ember. Kean was sure as hell that Liam will be in great trouble if he’s not going to obey the King’s command, not only will Liam be compromised, but also the whole Ashdown name.Liam might be convicted of Treason and the worst part of it is that there’s a possibility that he might be executed.“The King ordered him to come go back here at Bresmont, but Liam has other plans.” Kean looked at his father, Chris, helplessly.Kean may be the naughty and the not-so-serious type between the two brothers, but he’s the more logical thinker tha
Liam dropped on his knees as he bowed in the presence of the Lycan King. He believed that there’s no one except the King who can help him find where Ember is right now. He asked the King to help him locate Ember since the Lycan King knew everything about Devonlaire. He’s more than a century old, he knew a lot of things about his kingdom, especially about his enemies. The King chuckled when Liam begged him for help.“Don’t you have any faith in Ember Jacobson?” The King is amused. He could still remember how this alpha disagreed with his marriage with Ember. The King wanted to laugh, he couldn’t believe how weak this alpha to fall in love that easily. The Lycan King didn’t believe in love. For him, there’s only hate in this world full of cruelty and sadness. His hundreds of years of existence had taught him that love does not exist, it is only a product of one’s imaginatio
Ember knew that she had to find a way to leave the place or else she'll end up being dead, just like the former luna of Bresmont. Her few days stayed inside the den of the werewolf hunters, she saw how much hatred Kingston had for the werewolves, and he's imparting that kind of hatred to other hunters. He's dragging those half-hearted hunters to have that kind of hate Kingston has. They viewed then them as the most vile creatures that ever existed, something that isn't true. Yes, they were cruel but only to those who deserved it.Ember knew that she'll be tortured soon, it's just a matter of time. With the cruelty and hate Kingston have for the werewolves, Ember was a hundred percent sure that she will never walk out of this pit unscathed. She may even end up dead. Her eyes remained closed but she strained her ears to hear everything that's ha
