CHAPTER THREE
Elena's POV
'But I believe he'll be better than Logan's’ Ivana said, defending the stranger.
'Now you're just being selfish Ivana, don't you even care about how I'm feeling?. I haven't fully recovered from Logan and Lisa's betrayal and now you want me to get tied to someone else?' I retorted.
'He's our mate Elena'
'And I don't care. And I won't act like I can feel the bond, so you better behave Ivana' I retorted.
She huffed loudly in my mind and placed a mental barrier between us. It was better than way. .
"And who are you please?" I asked, feigning an innocent look.
"Elena, meet my son and the Alpha to the Red Knight pack, Alpha Liam," Beatrice introduced from behind.
The man kept staring at me eerily. Surely he must be feeling the mate bond, but I'll do my best to ignore it forever. I should save myself from another rejection in this life.
With feeble efforts, I tried to sit upright. With a scared look, I stuttered out, "Good day, sir."
"Oh, don't be afraid. He won't hurt you," Beatrice reassured me as she took a few steps closer.
But seriously, why is their Alpha here? Was it necessary for her to inform him about my presence, even though I'm not a member of their pack?
And just as if she had read my mind, she replied, "I know you're worried about why he's here, but don't worry. He just wanted to see you and ensure you mean no harm. Also, you're free to stay with me for as long as you want. Right?" She turned to look at Alpha Liam.
He nodded. "Yes, feel free to make the Red Knight pack your home," he finally spoke. Goddess, his voice! It sounded so deep and dominating, it managed to make my heart skip just at the sound of it.
A low titer came from Beatrice, and she squeezed my hand in an assuring manner.
"Thank you, Liam," she said to him, and my gaze snapped to hers. She called the Alpha by his name. No one had the right to call Logan by his name except me and his beta. Anyone else would be punished for disrespect. This made me wonder, who is she to him?
"Anytime, Beatrice. Well, I'll leave you and your guest. Do well to inform her of the rules and also... enjoy your stay, Elena." His deep blue electrifying gaze settled on mine as my name rolled smoothly off his lips.
I gave a faint smile, and with that, he turned and exited the room.
"Yes, so get ready. We'll be going out today. I'd like to show you some places in the pack, and I'm certain you'll love them. Also, I brought some clothes for you. I couldn't pick a cloth that would meet your taste, so I bought these. Try them on and wear the one you like, okay? I'll leave you to change," Beatrice said in a cheerful tone, a sweet smile stretching across her lips.
"Oh, I almost forgot. Here's your coffee," Beatrice placed a coffee mug on a table beside me. A smile graced my lips; oh, how I missed drinking coffee. I moaned as the taste exploded on my tongue. She chuckled and shook her head at me.
"Hmm, I knew you'd love it. Well, let me leave you to clean up. I'll be back in a few minutes," she patted my shoulder. I smiled and nodded. Staring at me for a few seconds, she heaved a sigh and exited the room.
Somehow, I viewed her as more than a friend. With her, I felt more of a motherly care, considering where I'm coming from. I was born and bred in the Silver River pack. My father was the Beta of the Silver River pack, and my mom was of Alpha blood from a different pack. But somehow, I was stripped of my right in the pack as I was considered wolfless by everyone.
On the night of my 16th birthday party, everyone expected me to shift and get my wolf, but I didn't get anything, and for two years, I was considered wolfless. Some even thought I had a defect. Some said I must have committed a secret crime and the moon Goddess decided to punish me by not giving me a wolf. My father said I was a shame to him, and my mother said nothing to the contrary. They even preferred my cousin Fina to me.
Sometimes, my father would beat and abuse me when he got irritated by me or when I did something wrong. So did everyone in the pack. They all made fun of me, and some had sympathy for my misfortune. It became so much to bear that I even thought of rejecting my pack to be free from their tribulation. But fortunately for me, on an unexpected night, my wolf came. It started with excruciating pain in my head and ribs, and slowly it felt like something wanted to come out of me until I lost control of myself, and she came.
I was so surprised to see that I wasn't wolfless after all. She was very beautiful with white fur and black paws. Her fur was so shiny and iridescent. Her eyes were stunning, holding a stormy grey color. What surprised me most was her size. I always considered myself to be an omega, but Ivana looked nothing like an omega. Her limbs were agile and strong, like she could run a thousand miles without feeling any pain.
Exactly when I turned 22, she arrived. I thought she was late, but she assured me she came at the right time. Having her was the best thing that happened to me. Not only was I satisfied that I wasn't wolfless, but I also had someone I could confide in. Someone who didn't look down on me and believed in me.
Even after I received my wolf, I kept it a secret. I didn't let anyone know. I didn't want them to know forever. Although Lisa was the only one who made me feel good, I still didn't tell her. Well, my secret wasn't kept for long as my mom caught me in my wolf form while I was staring at myself in the mirror. The shock on her face said it all—that she never believed I'd have one. And so did everyone.
She revealed it to my father, and soon the whole pack was aware. That helped matters a bit as my father's attitude towards me changed, and everyone began showing me respect and a bit of care, even though it didn't seem genuine.
And when Alpha Logan and other Alphas from different packs were invited over for a treaty celebration, my father made sure I was dressed in the best attire and had the best facial makeup. He also allowed me to sit with the royals, and that was the day I considered the worst day of my life—the day I found my first mate.
I could recall his scent; it was magnificent and called out my name. The joy on my father's face when Logan approached me and declared me his mate was profound. He didn't even think twice to hand me over to Logan, considering Logan is an Alpha.
And now that I no longer have a mate, I can never consider returning to my pack. I'm certain of what would befall me if I set foot there, and they all get to know what happened. By now, Logan must have informed them that he has rejected me, and I'm sure they're not bothered about my wellbeing.
They don't care about me.
No one does.
CHAPTER FOUR.ELENA'S POV.Getting out of bed, I strutted into the bathroom to freshen up. Afterwards, I wrapped myself in a pink towel that Beatrice had bought for me. Picking up the clothes on the bed, I scrutinized them to choose what would be comfortable for the day. I didn’t want anything that would be inconvenient.Deciding on a cute pink crop top and loose jeans, I found the sneakers to be a perfect fit. It made me wonder how she knew my size so accurately. I admired myself a little in the mirror. My dark, shiny hair reached below my waist, and my olive skin gleamed from the sunlight. My caramel eyes contrasted beautifully with my looks. I gathered my hair into a neat ponytail, and just as I was finishing, the door opened and Beatrice walked in."Oh my, you look gorgeous, my dear. You’re so beautiful. I knew this would look good on you," she commented.I tittered at her remarks.___We arrived at a huge mall, and with Beatrice's help, I picked out some beautiful clothes for mys
CHAPTER FIVELIAM'S POV.Since I first saw Elena, I haven’t been able to focus. There’s something about her that’s taken over my thoughts, and it’s driving me to distraction. She’s my mate…I know it with a certainty that goes beyond the rational. Yet, her calm and somewhat distant demeanor surprises me. It’s as if she’s trying to ignore the mate bond that I can feel so acutely. Is there something wrong with her? My wolf, Orion, responds to her presence with an intensity I can barely contain. At the training ground, Orion’s mood shifted dramatically. He surged forward, eager to be near her, to claim her. I could sense her proximity even before I saw her. Her caramel eyes sparkled with a mixture of fear and curiosity when they met mine, and her olive skin glistened under the sunlight, making her appear almost ethereal. She’s a beauty, no doubt. If she truly is my mate, I’m ready to claim her and make her mine. I vow to protect her with everything I have and ensure that no harm comes to
CHAPTER SIX FIRST CONVERSATION. ELENA'S POV I grasped the door handle and turned it slowly, then pushed the door open and stepped outside. I paused for a moment, checking to ensure no one was watching. Satisfied, I shut the door behind me and hurried into the woods. “Finally,” I sighed as the cool, fresh air hit my face, a welcome relief from the stuffy gathering inside. My eyes soon caught sight of something unexpected—a small, secluded body of water nestled within the pack’s territory. Intrigued, I made my way toward it, marveling at the unexpected sight. It was a small, pristine pool, tucked away as if someone had carefully maintained it just for moments like this. I brushed some sand off the concrete edge and sat down, taking in the peaceful surroundings. The faint hum of the party inside was still audible, making me even more grateful for my escape. Suddenly, a disturbance in the water caught my attention. Before I could react, a head emerged from the pool, causing
CHAPTER SEVEN LETTING IT ALL OUT. ELENA'S POV Liam's eyes widened, as he took on another gulp and slowly averted my gaze, his hand trembling. What was wrong with him?. "Do you know him?" I finally let my curiosity get the better of me. "I...I..." Liam stuttered stopping halfway and then he took another gulp. He let out an awkward chuckle. “You think I should…I mean they are close to our pack and…” He drawled. I squinted my eyes trying to make sense of his words and actions. Weirdo. “Kieran just mindlinked, I need to get back to the gathering and dismiss everyone but before I leave Elena…” His face suddenly turned serious, and then he slowly took my hand in his. "I understand that your previous mate was a total jerk, Elena. I can't guarantee I'll be better or that you'll accept me, but I promise you, Elena, I'll try my best to be the perfect choice for you. I won’t let you down." He spoke with such earnestness that it made my heart flutter. “I told you he’s better” I
CHAPTER 8ELENA'S POVLEAVING THE PAST BEHINDMy eyes widened in surprise as I watched Beatrice holding a necklace. It was the most beautiful piece of Jewelry I had ever seen. She came closer to me smiling. "Here I want you to have this.""This is beautiful. Thank you," I replied as I smiled back at her. I stretched my hands and she gave me the necklace which I wore around my neck and she helped me to fasten it."It was a gift from someone special and now that you're here, you can have it," Beatrice said. I touched the necklace, feeling happy that she had found me worthy of such a wonderful gift. Tears slipped down my face. No one had ever found it worthy to give me something special. Not even my parents. My mind flashed back to when I celebrated my sixteenth birthday. Unlike others who get to receive gifts from their loved ones, mine was different. No love, no care and worst still, no gift to make me feel special. My father felt it was no use caring for a wolfless child. To him, I
CHAPTER NINE ELENA'S POV I felt my cheeks burn with a deep blush at Liam's flirty words, but I quickly masked it with a frown, determined not to let him see how his comment had affected me. Beatrice, perceptive as ever, cleared her throat. “I need to grab something from my room,” Beatrice announced, her gaze shifting between Liam and me. Without waiting for a response, she excused herself and walked briskly away. As soon as Beatrice was out of sight, a wave of anxiety washed over me. Liam’s stare was relentless, his eyes never leaving my face. I could feel his gaze like a tangible weight, pressing on my every nerve. I picked up my fork with trembling hands, trying to focus on the food in front of me. I shoveled the food into my mouth, chewing quickly to distract myself from the tension that seemed to cling to the air. But the effort to maintain some semblance of normalcy backfired. A piece of food lodged in my throat, and I suddenly found myself choking. The coughing came out lou
Chapter TEN The Bet LIAM'S POV As soon as I got home, I headed straight to my room, slamming the door behind me, I let out a roar of frustration, the sound bouncing off the walls. My hands gripped the edge of the dresser, knuckles white with tension. The anger boiled inside me, relentless. I began to toss things around—the chair hit the wall with a loud thud, the lamp followed soon after, crashing to the floor in a mess of shattered glass. My chest heaved with every breath I took, but as the room grew silent, the rage started to fizzle out. I ran my hand through my hair, pacing for a moment before stopping by the window. Never has it been heard that a woman would avoid me as if I were diseased. But that’s how Elena treats me. Every time I try to get close, she pushes me away. All I want is for her to be mine. My mate. But it seems she’s built an impenetrable wall around herself—one I can’t seem to break through no matter how hard I try. If only she could put her past behind her
CHAPTER ELEVEN A Quiet Gesture ELENA'S POV FEW DAYS LATER I hated how I noticed the little things about him. Like how, whenever I walked into the packhouse kitchen, there was always a steaming cup of coffee waiting for me. Black, just how I liked it. And I certainly hadn’t told anyone about my weird habit of drinking it at odd times of the day. But somehow, Liam had figured it out. I walked over to the counter, eyeing the cup suspiciously, my fingers curling around the warmth of the mug. It felt... nice. That was the worst part—because it made me feel like he was paying attention to things no one else had bothered with before. I wanted to believe it was just coincidence. But it kept happening. “Are you ever going to say thank you, or are you planning to keep staring at it like I’ve poisoned it?” His voice came from behind me, casual yet filled with that faint teasing tone that seemed to get under my skin every time. I turned, seeing him leaning casually against the doorfram
