A day before...
“Come on, Ciel. Let’s go together. I’m sure it’ll be fun!”
Ciel rolled his eyes for the third time when he heard his closest friend, Raffy, pleading.
From the moment Ciel arrived at their class, Raffy has already been pestering him about going to Andrew, their alpha classmate’s, birthday party.
Ciel had already told Raffy that he has no plans to go because, first of all, he’s not close with Andrew, and second, he was not invited by the birthday celebrant, and he’s not that bold enough to crash a birthday party of someone he barely even interacted with. But Raffy continued to be persistent, acting like he didn’t hear all the reasons he had told him why he did not want to go.
“We’re in our third year now, and we’ve never been to a single party or even gatherings with our classmates or with anyone. Are you not even a bit curious about how it feels to hang out with them?”
“No,” Ciel immediately replied.
“But I am,” Raffy said while pouting.
“Then go to that party. It’s not like I am stopping you from going.”
“But I don’t want to go without you.”
“Then don’t go.”
“Ciel!”
Ciel finally stopped from walking and faced Raffy, who was still pouting beside him, then said in a stern voice, “I don’t want to go, Raffy, and this will be the last time that we’ll talk about this, alright? Drop this topic about that birthday party because no matter what you say, you will not be able to convince me to go.”
“But what if it’s me who convinces you? Will you come?”
Ciel immediately frowned upon hearing that sudden question from an unfamiliar voice behind him.
He turned to see who it was that interrupted his conversation with Raffy, and he was surprised to see who it was.
It was the birthday celebrant himself: Andrew Martinez.
“Hi, Ciel,” Andrew greeted cheerfully the still surprised Ciel.
Ciel stared at Andrew with a frown on his face as he started wondering why the most popular person in the Department of Business Administration, Andrew Martinez, whom he never had an interaction with and treated him as someone that is non-existent even though they've crossed paths too many times already because they're classmates in a lot of subjects, was suddenly talking to him and was even greeting him with a friendly smile on his face.
“Come to my party, Ciel. I’d love you to be there,” Andrew said after a few minutes passed and Ciel still remained quiet.
And why would I go? We’re not that close enough for me to attend your birthday party. We never even talked until now, was what Ciel wanted to say, but chose to keep it instead.
“Thanks for the invitation, but I can’t. I still have a report to finish,” Ciel finally replied in an indifferent tone.
“Is it for marketing research? Isn't the deadline for that still next week?” Andrew asked with a frown on his face.
“I prefer to do things right away and be done with it early.”
“But even if you don't do it right now, you still have plenty of time, so why don't you put it off at least for tonight and have some fun with us? I guarantee you won't be bored. My party has everything! Food, drinks, music, and most importantly, the chance to socialize with our classmates and schoolmates. That sounds like a good time, right?”
“I agree!” Raffy finally found the time to interject, making Andrew look at him.
But unlike Andrew, Ciel did not even look at Raffy anymore and just said, “I am sorry, but I will still have to decline. Thanks for the invitation again, and happy birthday.” And with that, he left as he’s not interested anymore to lengthen their conversation.
Ciel heard Raffy calling him, but he paid his friend no attention, acting like he didn’t hear him. He just continued walking without a care about how the other students were staring at him because of his name being called by Raffy over and over again.
He’s sure that a rumor about him being approached by Andrew would circulate the next morning, making him feel shitty.
The last thing he wanted was to get associated with alphas, especially the powerful and well-known alphas like Andrew Martinez and his friends. It would just ruin his peaceful school life that he was able to maintain for three years.
‘And that person surely wouldn't like that to happen either,’ Ciel thought with a sigh.
But he immediately shook his head to erase such thoughts, as fear and worry were starting to overtake his emotions.
It’s too early for him to be filled with such negativity.
And so, with his heart and emotions settling down, he quietly made his way towards the exit of their school while glancing at his wristwatch.
It’s still two in the afternoon, which means he has enough time to finish the report he was talking about to Andrew without staying up late at night.
As Andrew said, the deadline for their report on the marketing research subject is next week, but he was wrong when he said that Ciel still had enough time to finish the report.
Because Ciel has classes in the morning and works part-time in the evenings and on weekends, he barely had enough free time to do what needed to be done, whether it was writing reports, cleaning his rented room, or hanging out with anyone; not that he has anyone close to hang out with, except Raffy, of course. Which was why he cannot afford to waste even a single minute of his free time. Besides, what good will it bring him in attending Andrew's party? He's not a good drinker and is not good at socializing. But if he were to be honest, he was a bit tempted when Andrew mentioned food. After all, food is something that he always wanted to have but could not afford to indulge himself with it. He barely could even pay his rent, so he always ends up settling with affordable instant noodles most of the time. He couldn't even remember when was the last time he ate meat, or even fish. Which was why he almost gave in, although it was not shown on his face—if there's one thing Ciel was excellent at doing, it's hiding his own expression to not let other people know what he was truly feeling—but remembering that going to Andrew's party would mean meeting several alphas burned down that temptation right in an instant.
There's no way he would let himself be surrounded by alphas, even if it's for food. He'll just stick to his cup noodles!
Ciel immediately heard the horns of the tricycles and jeepneys after exiting the college building's gate. Some of the drivers were also personally calling his attention, asking him if he wanted to ride, but he politely declined all of them. The house where he rented a room is only a few walks away, so there was no need for him to take a ride, which was one of the things he highly considered when he decided to move out of their home and live on his own. After more than ten minutes, Ciel finally reached the house, entered it, and was greeted by Lala, the lovely old Omega landlady, who was sitting on the couch and was watching her favorite telenovela.“How were your classes, Ciel? Were they entertaining enough to keep you from falling asleep?”Ciel smiled at the kind landlady. “A bit boring, but not too boring for me to be asleep.”Lala gave back Ciel's smile and nodded as a response to his answer. She then proceeded to say, “I cooked banana fritters and left some for you. Go get them in
When Ciel went out of the bathroom, fully dressed, he saw Raffy sitting on his bed again. But unlike a moment ago, Raffy was not eating a banana fritter anymore and was just quietly sitting while staring and scrolling at his phone, which was abruptly stopped as well the moment he felt Ciel's stares on him.“If you're going to ask for the banana fritter, I already ate it. Since it seems that you don't want it anymore anyway,” Raffy said when Ciel started walking towards the bed.Ciel sat beside Raffy before dragging the table to be in front of him.“How did you enter my room? As far as I remember, I locked my door,” Ciel asked, ignoring what Raffy had just said. But Raffy seemed to not mind that at all and just answered Ciel's question. “The usual. I borrowed the spare key from Lala.”“I already told you to stop doing that. Stop bothering Lala.”“If you answered right away after I came knocking on your door while calling out your name, then I wouldn't have to bother Lala for the spare
Andrew's birthday party was hosted in one of the Martinez's three mansions, which Ciel and Raffy never expected to see in person because they had only seen pictures of it, yet they were already inside of it.Ciel and Raffy arrived for Andrew's birthday party about seven o'clock. It was still early, but the crowd was already packed, and Ciel had already seen a few people so drunk that they couldn't even stand on their own two feet, causing Ciel's face to wince. He had just arrived, but he already wanted to go home.“Wow. It's... loud,” Raffy said in amazement while looking around. The two of them were standing near the crowded swimming pool, and they were surrounded with drunk and tipsy people; some they were familiar with, and some were people they'd never met. Everyone around them was going wild.“So this is how rich people party,” Raffy muttered again as he was still not done looking around.“It’s so fucking loud,” Ciel replied in annoyance.“Of course it would be loud. It wouldn’t
“Maverick! You’re finally here!” Andrew exclaimed in excitement and gladness upon seeing Maverick making his way towards them. “What took you so long, man? The party has already started, and the guys have been waiting for you!” He asked after Maverick had finally arrived in front of him.“I had to settle some things,” Maverick answered in his usual cold and nonchalant tone, completely oblivious to how excited Andrew is with his arrival.“By settling some things... Do you mean settling your family, or your grandfather, to be more specific?" Andrew asked with one of his brows raised. Curiosity could also be heard in his voice as he asked that question. But the expression on Andrew’s face changed in an instant—his curiosity dissipating and nervousness took over—when Maverick's face darkened, an indication that he disliked the question that came out of Andrew's mouth.“Mind your own business, Andrew,” Maverick said in a colder tone, also accompanying it with his strong pheromones. And bec
“Rather than just staring at me, how about you stop emitting your pheromones first and then apologize to us?”Ciel's voice was just as cold as his eyes, which stared at Maverick, who was meeting his eyes with still a nonchalant expression.“What did you just say?” Maverick asked in his usual cold voice.Ciel rolled his eyes.“So you're not only a selfish and arrogant bastard. You're also deaf—that or you're just plain stupid to comprehend a very simple sentence.”Another set of gasps of disbelief has erupted from the crowd. Even the omegas that were about to leave had stopped and turned to look at Maverick and Ciel, staring at every expression they were making and nervously waiting for what’s going to happen next.It isn’t the first time Maverick and Ciel have crossed paths and been at each other’s throats. For some reasons, the little omega, unlike the others who would even want to lick Maverick’s foot if given a chance, hated the dominant alpha so much. Although, to be fair, Ciel dis
“Ciel!” Raffy exclaimed after Ciel that taunting remark. The beta wanted to stop his little omega friend from opening his mouth and saying another word that could get the both of them in trouble. They were already disliked by their fellow students, and Raffy does not want to worsen their already bad reputation. But as always, Ciel did not let him stop him.“I know that dominant alphas tend to be intelligent people, but I guess there's an exception to that. And that exception just happened to be right in front of me,” Ciel said again, a grin spreading across his face. There was no way such teasing remarks could make Ciel go flustered and speechless. He's heard a lot of insults and derogatory terms for simply being an omega that, as time passes, do not affect him anymore. Besides, it's not like Maverick was wrong about omegas being affected by alpha pheromones, so why did he think that would be enough to make Ciel mad and lose his patience?Instead of losing his patience, Maverick's tea
“Just how shameless is he to still stay here after creating such commotion?”“I know, right? What a thick-skinned rascal.”“We should keep an eye on him. Because what if he causes another commotion? Another trouble? And much worse at that? I mean, anyone who is in their right mind wouldn’t think of staying after causing a scene, would they? Yet he’s still here. So he must be planning something against Maverick.”“Do you think he's planning to seduce them?”“Ha! Even if he does try, it would still be a waste. Have you both forgotten how many dominant omegas tried to seduce Maverick and yet none of them succeeded? So what made you think that a recessive omega like that loser would be able to do so? Also, it was clear as the day that Maverick dislikes him.”Ciel rolled his eyes as he listened to the group of people talking behind him. It's not that he was intentionally listening to them. It was clear that the women were intentionally making their voice louder for him to hear. They might h
"No. It's my way of saying, 'I hate you so much I want to crush your balls,' Ciel replied to Maverick before pushing the alpha away with all his strength until he finally got rid of Maverick's hand that was around his waist and got out of his grasp.Ciel then stepped away from Maverick so fast as if Maverick had a contagious disease and he didn't want to be affected. And in a tone as if he were scolding a child, he told Maverick, "Next time, be aware of your surroundings and don't just suddenly pop out of nowhere. You've almost got me into an accident. What are you going to do if I fall and hit my head on the floor?"Maverick gaped at Ciel, speechless, and different emotions filled his face—amazement, amusement, and bewilderment. After a few moments, Maverick was finally able to find his voice and replied, "First of all, it's you who should be aware of your surroundings. Why are you running in a place that is not yours and you're not familiar with? Second, why are you making it sound
As always, Maverick's face and voice were filled with so much sincerity, making it hard for him to not believe him—not that he's doubting him; he couldn't even remember when was the last time he doubted him. It's just that it always amazes him whenever Maverick says something with all sincerity. Well, it wasn't just amazement or happiness anymore. Ciel was already feeling something more, such as lust...?Ciel laughed inwardly. He never thought he would be feeling lust or get turned on simply because Maverick was being sincere. But damn, he really wanted to do it with Maverick. And well, he was also thinking that having sex with Maverick would help him forget everything he was feeling. The anger, the frustration, and the sadness—he didn't want to feel all of that. And what's the best way to not feel anything besides those said emotions? Of course it's sex."Wanna have sex?" Ciel asked even before he could think of what he just said. Still, he didn't want to take it back.Maverick looke
Ciel did not say anything for a while and just stared at Maverick. It was obvious that he was contemplating whether he should do what Maverick advised him to do or not. But after a few more moments, he finally decided on what to do.Ciel rose from his lying position and sat down, grabbing his phone off the table in front of the couch. While he was tapping on his phone for Raffy's number, Maverick sat down and snuggled closer to Ciel, wrapping his arms around Ciel's waist once more.Ciel dialed Raffy's number, turned on the loudspeaker of his phone, then leaned his body against Maverick while waiting for his best friend to answer the call.It took more than three rings before Raffy answered his call."Hey!" Raffy said."Hey," Ciel said right back, sounding a little unsure."Did you forget something in my car? I am still quite near Maverick's house, so I can turn back if you want.""No. That's not it," Ciel responded before sighing. "Can you stop driving for a while and park somewhere s
Raffy stopped his car right in front of Maverick's house. Ciel unfastened his seatbelt and grabbed his wallet and his phone from the dashboard.Ciel should be getting out of the car already, but he couldn't as he still wanted to ask Raffy something. The problem was, he wasn't sure if it would be a good question. He doesn't want Raffy to be mad anymore, especially since their relationship was already back to how it was before and also because he will be leaving. He didn't want Raffy to leave the country with their friendship in shambles again. As if the beta had sensed that something was troubling him, Raffy chuckled and said, "Just say what you want to say, Ciel."As if that was all Ciel was waiting for, he fully faced Raffy and said, "I know I already asked you about this, and you might get annoyed already, but I need to be really sure. Is your decision really final? Is there nothing that could really change your mind about going to the US and being with that asshole?"Raffy smiled.
"Maverick."The way Maverick clasped his hand went tighter, and his jaws were clenching."Maverick."His icy cold gaze has turned fiery, and his strong, heavy, and uncontrolled pheromones started to spread, making the three people in front of him go breathless despite being betas. But Maverick didn't care about them. He was already consumed with so much anger that he stopped caring about his surroundings."Maverick!"Ah, he really wanted to beat them up or kill them. He wanted them to experience what Ciel had been through, or make them go through worse. And he was very close to actually doing that as his patience was already very close to splitting. But just when that patience was about to split, he felt a heavy and very strong blow on his face that made him lose his balance. And the next thing he knew, he was already on the floor with an aching and throbbing cheek. As if he had just woken up from a trance, he looked at his father, who was standing right in front of him and was breath
"Can I handle this?" Maverick asked his father and grandfather when the two were about to move towards the chairs in front of the three people that were tied in their own seats.Marcus and Matthew looked at him for a while, and in that duration, only seriousness but calmness at the same time could be seen in Maverick's face, as if he was telling his father and grandfather that he was angry at the sight of the three people but not angry enough for him to lose his mind and start committing murder."Alright," Marcus said. "But we will stay just to be sure you won't lose control.""I won't, but suit yourselves," Maverick answered before taking the seat in the center, not waiting for his father and grandfather anymore.Marcus and Matthew said nothing and just followed Maverick, taking the seats that were situated on each side of the seat Maverick was sitting on.Maverick intently stared at the three people in front of him. He was staring at the three people as if he wanted to see even the
Maverick's face was dark as he walked across the hallway of the abandoned warehouse that his grandfather owns. He was on his way to the office room, where his grandfather and father were waiting for him.The moment he reached the front of the closed door of the office, he only knocked once just to let the two be aware of his presence, and after that, he pushed the door open, gathering the attention of his grandfather, who was, of course, sitting behind his office table, and his father, who was sitting in the chair that was in front of the office table."Hi, Dad," he said as he went inside and closed the door, then looked at his grandfather and nodded. "Grandpa.""You are a couple of minutes late, Maverick," Matthew strictly said. One of the many things Matthew hates is tardiness, which was why Maverick could understand why his father was giving him the stinky eyes. He just ignored it, though, as he took the seat across from Matthew."I had to make sure Ciel was safe first before I cam
"Are you sure you'll be fine by yourself?"Ciel couldn't help but roll his eyes at the alpha's eighth time of asking him the same question. After tying his shoes, Ciel finally stood again and made his way towards Maverick. He put his hands on the alpha's shoulders and then said in a firm voice. "To answer your question for the eighth time, yes, I am going to be fine.""But—""It's Raffy I am going to meet, Maverick. Not my parents, my brothers, not Andrew, or some creepy asshole. It's just my best friend, Raffy. So, stop worrying now, okay?""Yeah, but the news about you and your family is all over town, baby. What if people see you and recognize you? What if they start mobbing or attacking you, or something? What if you get hurt—hmp!Maverick's eyes widened due to utter surprise at Ciel's sudden attack on his lips. But as always, the surprise didn't last, and before he knew it, he was already kissing Ciel back with his arms wrapped around the little omega while slowly grinding his ha
It was quite a while before Ciel spoke again, and when he did, what he asked was, "Did you put something in my heart or in my brain?"Maverick looked confused. "What?""Like a listening device? Or maybe you're using an EQ-radio? A sensor or something else?"Maverick looked flabbergasted this time. "What? I... I don't understand what you're talking about. Why would I use those on you?""Then can you explain to me how you can easily tell what's on my mind or what I am feeling?" Ciel asked in a serious voice.Maverick continued to look confused until a few moments later. A laugh escaped his mouth as he pressed his forehead against Ciel, and then he whispered, "That's because I love you." His voice was filled with nothing but tenderness, making Ciel feel how much he meant every single word.Ciel wanted to suppress his smile, but in the end, he couldn't. Maverick just responded to his question with "I love you," and yet that seemed to be enough, or maybe more than sufficient enough, as an
"Coffee, juice, or cola?""Coffee.""With rice or without rice?""With rice.""Reading or watching?""Reading.""Studying or partying?"Ciel rolled his eyes. "Do you really still need to ask me that? Of course, studying!""Still studying?" Maverick asked in disappointment. "And here I thought that bringing you to a bar would somehow make you change your mind.""No matter how many times you take me into a bar, I will still choose studying. Bar hopping and partying won't secure my future, dude.""But being with me would secure your future.""So you're going to be like my sugar daddy?""Sugar daddy? I'm not that old to be called a sugar daddy. A sponsor would be the appropriate word, I think."Ciel shook his head before gazing at the ceiling with a small smile on his lips. "Whatever, Maverick.""But you're not opposed to the idea of being with me, huh?"Ciel frowned and looked at the dominant alpha again. "What?""You did not deny it when I said your future would be secured if you're wit
