CHAPTER FOUR

Dante ate very slowly trying to avoid the questions Irene was sure to ask.

"Even if you use the whole of tonight to eat, I am still going to ask my questions." Irene informed him.

Dante sighed and quickly finished eating his food.

"good boy."

"Ask away" Dante said.

"First of all, why did you bring that girl back? you were supposed to kill everyone. That was the plan."

"I just felt like bringing her back, do I need to have a reason?"

"How long have I known you Dante?" Irene asked.

"since I was born."

"And how long have I taken care of you?"

"Since I was born."

"How long is that?"

"Twenty six years."

"Good, I know you Dante. You don't just do anything irrationally. Ever since the day our pack was destroyed. The only thing on your mind has being to have your revenge and wipe out every member of Crystal moon pack. Now, today you have come back with a prisoner, the daughter of your father's killer. Why Dante?"

"She is my mate, I can't kill her." Dante muttered.

"What, she is your mate? When did you know this?"

"This morning, when I sneaked in for reconnaissance. I perceived her scent and knew she was my mate."

"Oh! Today is her eighteenth birthday after all. You didn't change your mind after you knew she was your mate?" Irene asked.

"no! Even though the goddess has made her my mate, it doesn't mean that I have to go through with it. I will never acknowledge her as my mate. She will spend the rest of her life in prison."

"Are you sure Dante? She is your mate and the Luna of this pack. Are you sure that you are going to do this?"

"You said it yourself Irene, she is the daughter of my father's killer. Her father murdered our pack. They will never accept her as their Luna and neither will I."

"If that's what you want."

"That's what I want Irene, can you help me give her food?"

"Of course. Go wash up and get some sleep."

Dante stood up and kissed her on the cheek before leaving for his room.

Irene stood up and took some food downstairs to Ruby.

"Here is your dinner." she said as she slid the plate under the door.

Ruby looked up at her, Irene could sense her curiosity and a little hint of jealousy and defiance.

"Is it poisoned?" Ruby asked.

"No, it isn't." Irene said.

"You don't expect me to trust you right?"

"I don't care whether you trust me or not, when you are hungry. You are going to eat." Irene said and left.

Dante tossed and turned, he was having a dream. In his dream, he saw his late parents.

He bowed to them, "I have done it, I have avenged you."

"No, you haven't." his father said.

"What do you mean father?"

"Alpha Terrence was the mastermind behind the attack, not his people or his wife or his daughter. They were all innocent people."

"So were our people! They were all innocent people slaughtered by that Bastard." Dante yelled.

"Two wrongs do not make a right Dante, you have treated your mate horribly too."

"She isn't my mate, I will never acknowledge her as my mate." Dante said bitterly.

"My boy, mate hood is a sacred union established by the moon goddess. That girl will either be your redemption or your destruction. Tread carefully." his mother said.

"Wait! What do you mean?" Dante asked.

He never got a reply as they slowly vanished away.

Dante woke up in cold sweat, what sort of dream was that? He thought.

Ruby was either his redemption or destruction, what did that mean?

He stood up from his bed and took a blanket and headed down to the prison. He opened the door and walked in, Ruby was curled on the floor in a fetal position. He put the blanket on her and turned around to leave.

"Why?" he heard her ask.

"I thought you might be cold."

"When are you going to let me go? Just free me, I will go and never come back here. I promise"

"I can't do that, your father made that mistake of letting me go and see how he ended. I would have definitely killed you if you weren't my mate. Since that isn't possible, you will have to stay here for the rest of your life."

Dante closed the door and left ignoring Ruby's sobs.

The next morning Dante ate his breakfast and left the house before Irene could start her grilling again.

"Hey Dante." his beta wolf, Ravi greeted him.

"Hey Ravi. How is it going?" he asked.

"fine I guess, the weapons have been put in the armory and all the supplies have been distributed to the people."

"That's good. We shouldn't rest, this isn't the end."

"What do you mean?" Ravi asked.

"Alpha Terrence had a lot of Allies, now that he is dead, they will all come for revenge and to rescue his daughter." Dante replied.

"About that? Why did you bring her back here? I don't mean to question your judgment but I thought the plan was to kill everyone."

Dante didn't want to announce it to anyone that Ruby was his mate,

"She is just a bait." he replied.

"Bait?"

"Yes, she is the bait that will draw them here, as long as they know she is alive, they won't do anything rash."

Ravi looked at him in admiration. "You are so wise Dante."

"don't worry someday you will gain a little fraction of my wisdom." he told Ravi with a teasing voice.

"Jerk."

Dante clasped his hand around Ravi's shoulder. "Let's go oversee the guards training."

Irene prepared breakfast and took it down to Ruby. She was surprised to see her with a blanket, she peered at it closely. That was Dante's blanket.

"Where did you get that?" she asked immediately.
